I do wonder if, in a way, Reiner had been projecting a little bit.

Just this little exchange over here... I wonder if somewhere in Reiner's mind, he was thinking that Jean usually does things for his benefit. And, when push comes to shove, think only about himself. Because in some aspect, when Reiner decided to step up to the plate and take command after Marcel's death, he may have thought that it wasn't just about the mission. Because... as I often do say (because that's how I see it) Reiner's true objective is to prove himself to his mother; and the way to do that is to come back alive with results, be a hero, etc. All of those are secondary to what he truly wants which is the love and acknowledgement of his parents. He was so clear about it. 13 years to live is worth the sacrifice if in the end that meant that he's going to be acknowledged by them. And this was something that he guised in the form of their mission for Marley. It's very convenient. Hitting 2 birds with one stone. So, he can't go back empty handed then because he know he will be killed, the Armor fed to someone else etc...

So, I'm just thinking that maybe in this situation, he thought Jean would act a little more selfishly, like he did when he made the decision to stay. And seeing how Jean acted, he realized that, they were in fact, very different from one another. That when forced to make a decision, Jean can in fact, rise to the occasion to make the ones that actually matter the most; not just for the sake of himself, but for his comrades too.

While Reiner did what he did for the sake of proving himself, Jean wasn't doing it for something as selfish as that. But more because he just didn't want anyone else to die if he could help it.

And I think that Jean being able to openly acknowledge someone despite how he feels for them personally, is something of an alien feeling to Reiner... who only ever lived with disdain despite the work he puts into thing. Maybe he finds, in this moment, a number of admirable and respectable qualities in Jean, that he wished he could've understand prior to everything.

if i personally would work around that concept, imo that would happen when classic's original first timeline first gets the monsters released from the underground, and it was such a joyous moment that it just. broke dream free. i think it would tie his role into the multiverse perfectly

and in my last post, i said that i think it can also just be a timed curse or something of the sort. it would be incredibly fucking depressing if it were permanent, if no one figured out a way to save him, he could....just be that. forever. and that sucks

so many thoughts in my mind today, but crowley having a crush on you (the new professor who he recently hired) and the students learning one by one about their cringefail headmage and his not-so-secret affections for you, and in classic nrc fashion it becomes a competition amongst the dorms to see who can be the first to pair the two of you together.

on one hand, the students are very efficient when wrapped up in competition. but on the other hand, this is crowley's love life they're meddling in and yikes. T_T his rizz levels are nonexistent. in the negatives. it's very bad. maybe it's worth it to just give them some extra credit so they'll drop the matter altogether? no, he can't! he has to be honest with academics! that would be bribery and he is kind, but not so kind as to cheat the academic system! the other professors find it immensely amusing to see crowley's feathers so ruffled.

also,,,,, what would you think of him if you caught him bribing the students with good grades? >_< he can't possibly be seen in a poor light by you. oh, that would be just terrible! truly tragic! he would never recover! dramatic as always, that crowley...
