I've spent the last 4 years doing art that is almost perfectly symmetrical, and I've only just tried using the same techniques to make something entirely asymmetric.

Just 7 days of Inktober left to go, and fortunately I got a bit of break with one of the more simple words that I’ve really been looking forward to. 💕 

I’m not thrilled to be posting it so late, but I had to get some housework done first. 😅

I do apologize to any Sparklers that enjoy these descriptions that this is now the third one (and second in a row) that I had to to drop the art without a description and run. 😅

I was really hoping it wouldn't come to that today, since today was both a simpler word and one I'd bee looking forward to...But I also knew some housework really needed to be done before anything else today, and whether or not I had to post this one in a rush was really going to come down to what time I had left after the housework, even if the art itself didn't take that much time to make. And as you might guess, the housework ended up running on the long side. 🫠

But, hey, at least I did get it all done with time to spare—the housework and artwork alike.

That said, as I mentioned before, this was one of the simpler words that made the prompt list, so that means I actually don't have a ton to report on for this description anyway. 😅 Still, I'll tell you what I can!

Starting with: This was actually one of the words I picked out a little earlier on when I was putting the prompt list and I'd hoped to find more like it—As in still a word you definitely don't typically hear very often, but the actual concept/definition is very simple and distinct.

I ended up a little disappointed in my search on that front, but I do think that's part of why I ended up looking forward to this one as much as I did; I knew there was at least one word coming up where the basis and color palette for the word would be about as crystal-clear as I could possibly ask for. 😆

You might think: Oh but Mystic, how is "heart-shaped" that different from "crescent-moon-shaped" for Day 13? At least if you're talking about art direction clarity...

Because, dear Sparklers, I could already think of more "logical" ways to incorporate the classic heart shape into mandala motifs and it was considerably easier to find existing motifs on the interwebs when I needed help filling in "gaps" left by the ideas I had on my own.

Have I mentioned before that that's something I really love about mandalas? All the different motifs, ways to combine them, and how regularly it seems people share little tutorials for them? I don't think I have, so there ya go!

In this case, my favorite borrowed motif is the largest heart edge, which was inspired by this motif. I had to work around a considerable amount of the smaller motifs I'd already done, but I tried to preserve what I liked the most about the original design: How the two "bumps" remind me of a semicolon. And if you know one of the metaphorical application of semicolons, you might understand why I feel that's kind of a more subtle, poetic inclusion in an artwork themed around hearts. ❤️‍🩹

Which reminds me, on the other hand: In another timeline, I might have chosen to go less generally on-the-nose and tried to do something more subtly heart-shape-inspired. After all, the definition is heart-shaped, not just hearts. But like I alluded to at the beginning, since I had a lot already on my plate today, I really needed the more simple path-of-least-resistance.

Besides, again as I sort of already said in other words, I was happy to take that simpler path today. I think I would've been even if I'd had all the time in the world. And the mandala came out so wonderfully bright for it, too! Playing with the very stereotypically pinks and reds was fun! 😃

In the end, I can't say this one is my absolute favorite to look at—too many other strong contenders already in the running for that!—but it just might've been my favorite to make, even despite not having a ton of time to do it in.

Let's see, I think that's the artwork for today covered. But I also wanted to mention: My gosh, I can hardly believe we have just 7 days left to go. 😱

I'm normally a little surprised how October can feel like both the longest month ever while simultaneously going by faster than I can blink, but I think this year has really taken the cake in that department.

Ah well; 'Tis the nature of the beast, I suppose. I should probably be more concerned with just making it through this last week. There's so much to do, lots of things not even Obscutober-related I'd like to get done before the month is over. 😅

On that note, I'll leave you Sparklers here for tonight while I go see if I can get some more of those things done...Or maybe not done, but at least make some progress. 🤪 See you all tomorrow! 🤗

A/N: This is a "play on poetry" that I wrote personifying how a curl is actually drawn using play on words to portray the moves of a round pattern as you follow the path of a curl's shape.

Not one of my closest friends who I see almost everyday complimenting my new septum (I've been wearing the same one since september)

HI I JUST REALIZED this thing I've been admiring for 20 years of my life has writing that MOSTLY JUST REPEATS ONE PHRASE around the edges??? Except for one singular set of symbols, in the top-left corner of this screenshot, where there are a couple extra ones changing it up.

I analyzed the writing to hell and back on another blog, but here's what I've come up with.

1.) It's probably a right-to-left writing system. (Leaning on the shape of the letters, AND drawing on the fact that Hebrew, which I firmly believe Azarathean is linguistically related to, is right-to-left.)

2.) It's all a set of 4 symbols repeating. (The jagged S, the Anarchy A with a swooshy underline asnd two "apostrophes", the real sideways long S with a real weird square, and the one that looks like the hiragana for "ta" flipped around, a high "+" with two horizontal lines.)

2a.) EXCEPT! For that ONE phrase, where the anarchy-A guy has a "We"-kana-like ''buddy'' and a big +/X shape added (like the Ogham rune Muin).

3.) I kinda laughed to myself that maybe the repeated phrase is "Azarath" and the singular longer phrase says "Azarath Metrion Zinthos", but that's pure speculation. Also the extra symbols in the longer phrase break up what would be saying "Azarath" everywhere else...

I'm trying to figure out if this is an Actual Conlang or if it's more cool gibberish (like Azarath Metrion Zinthos is and the spells in Spellbound). Probably the latter. But I'm gonna gnaw on this for awhile (possibly years tbh) and at the very least HEADCANON something of what it says!

(It could also be distorted Japanese because SEVERAL pieces of the characters are reminiscent of kana, actually, but I'm deep in Stomach Recovery Mode and only have the spoons to think about Overall Impressions.)
