Sorry for the markings/blur in places, it's the best I could get on these.

I am in london and today when I was walking to Chinatown I suddenly saw the G-A-Y bar that the boys performed at and ouch, I didn’t even know it was in london. For some reason I thought it was Manchester 🥲. Had to google to make sure right after that it was the same one and yes. It’s obviously just rumors that that performance is the reason Louis had to change his public persona (at least I don’t think it’s confirmed? I probably just spend too much time on TikTok haha where they love to spread bs, they like to call it “cake gate”) but it still felt sad in a way to walk past that bar knowing that same place might have been the last time Louis could be himself in public in one direction. He still had to hide things before that ofc like his sexuality etc.
I do believe he has a lot more power now though and is not forced to be someone he’s not. But in one direction he obviously had no control over his image. Sorry for my bad English💗
That performance isn’t why he had to “change his persona.” What are they even talking about? That performance was in September, 2011.
Their closet started closing tighter in 2012 as they were breaking into America. TMH Louis was still pretty flamboyant but you can see a slight shift from WWA (IMO he was still a very clean cut twink)
I think Louis’ “persona” change really hit its stride with midnight memories and his skater boy aesthetic. Some of that can also just be attributed to growing up and growing out of certain behaviors. But there really seemed to be an effort to make Louis appear “less gay” in his movement/appearance at that point. And their closet was locked down tight (with the addition of larries ruined their friendship because they’re so homophobic they’d rather stop being friends than be thought of as gay).
The appearance at G-A-Y is more likely connected to Louis being flown to LA for a bollocking by Simon about being drunk on stage. If he was told off for being “too gay” at that point it didn’t seem to have much effect on his behavior/style.

So, haven't been posting much today. There's a reason for that:
I'm out of Ireland! Hello from Manchester, UK!
Off to a great start this morning, with the window seat next to mine being empty for the flight, and thus mine.
Landing also gave me a look at an Airbus A380:
And after arriving in Manchester, I had a nice walk around the City Centre. There's a statue to the blinded veterans of WWI outside the main train station:
Partook of the local cuisine:
Found a school that in any other city of the world would be massively over-specialised, but here you genuinely have options:
I ended up wandering through Manchester's Chinatown, a living reminder of Manchester's history as a major port city of the British Empire:
And arrived at my destination: The Gay Village, which is kind've stacked on top of Chinatown. Better historians than me can probably explain that better than I can.
There's a lovely little park called Sackville Gardens, that contains several memorials. Here's The Beacon of Hope, a memorial of those who've died as a result of the AIDS epidemic:
Here's a memorial to Manchester resident Alan Turing:
And here's where the Memorial to the Victims of Transphobic Violence used to be, until somebody burned it down during Manchester Pride 2022. The design of the replacement was revealed a couple months ago.
By the time I'd finished my walk, and had some lunch, it was half past four and all the museums close at five. So I hung around the city centre a bit longer, and then headed back to my hotel.
So that was day. Quite fun. Tomorrow, I go do what I'm here to do.

if i had a nickel for every major former industrial center city in the UK where Gay Village and Chinatown are right next to each other I’d have two nickels. which isn’t a lot but does contribute to the feeling that Manchester and Birmingham are the same cities in different fonts.

Manchester
After a night of broken sleep ( my usual pattern the second night after a long flight) , I was despite the rain out walking by 7:30am. I walked uo through Chinatown to St Peter 's Square as i wanted to see the Midland Hotel and the Roills Royce in its entrance. The significance is that it is where Mr Rolls and Mr Royce are supposed to have met in 1904 and decided to go into business together. One thing I have noticed in many streets of Manchester are these defibrillator stations.
On my wa=y back to the hotel for a 10am Zoom meeting, I walked along Canal Street, the Gay Village . It is still "recovering"tfrom Manchester Pride, barricades are being removed but the bunting is still flying.
After my meeting finished I walked up the road to catch my favourite Free Bus 2 to head down towards the medieval quarter of Manchester.
I did however have a short detour for a walk alomg Market Street and Arndale Shopping Centre. Arndale was the first "American Style "Shopping Mall in the UK . In 1996 it suffred extensive damage after an IRA bombing.
After making my way down to the medieval quarter nad passing the pub wher i had lunched yesterdayand a walk past the cathedral garden with its bee , I had lunch in a vietnamese restaurant in the old Corn Exchange.
After lunch I had a wonderful tour of Chetham's Library. These are the oldest buildings in Manchester.
The library itself is the oldest public library in Britain having been in operation for > 350 years.
The shelves and shelves of books are amazing and amongst the books are first edition. copies of Johnson's Dictionary.(The white ones)
In the readiung room we were able to see a parochial library, the alcove where Marx and Engels met and some wonderful old books.
We were fortunate that the library had a special exhibition at present- "A Royal Tudor Bed". this was the matrimonial bed of Henry 7th and Elizabeth of York.
All in all a busy day ending with a quick meal and wine at a local pub before returning to the hotel to watch the opening of the Paralympics at the sensible time of 6:30 pm. It was interesting to watch a British coverage and I did have to laugh when they were talking about which teams would be strong - Australia didn't get a mention!!!
