Amnesia Later: New World Prologue Part 2

Amnesia Later is the first fandisk for Amnesia and consists of several parts to the game, including New World and After Story. New World is basically an AU of sorts that focuses on a scenario where the MC is dating no one and the staff of Meido no Hitsuji make summer plans together. I’ve split the prologue into 2 parts for more easy reading (and workload on myself….) This 2nd half focuses on the MC’s interactions with members of the cast and then the actual firefly outing itself before it splits off into individual routes.

Sorry for taking so long to upload this--I’ve been focusing on school and while I finished this like a month ago I forgot to actually upload it oops .___. ;;

Orion: I’m so tired~ And good work today~!

You worked really hard today as well! As such, let’s hold a strategy meeting while you relax a bit.

For some reason today we got to meet the full member line-up from the store by coincidence.

I think we can trust anyone from those members.

If everyone were to find out you had amnesia, they’d help you out. That’s the kind of people I believe they are.

…...But that’s exactly why it’s hard to just pick one person……

Ugh, should we just disclose it during the morning assembly? Like, “To tell you the truth, I actually don’t have any memories”? Or would that be too reckless…...

Ah, but it’s good we managed to establish the reason why you had so many shifts.

You had plans with those part-time members to go somewhere with some goal in mind.

Oh yeah, it didn’t come up in today’s subject, but are Ikki and Kent not part of the group?

I mean, Toma called himself the “overseer,” right?

It’s pretty common for the oldest one in a group to take that role after all.

If that’s the case, then that means there’s no one older than Toma going on that trip.

So Ikki, Kent, and even the manager aren’t included. That’s just a guess, though.

Well, even without thinking that hard we can probably formulate a guess based on Ikki’s reaction when he saw Toma and the others come in.

He was surprised when he saw them, saying that they were an unusual group to be together. If he knew about the trip then he wouldn’t react like that, right?

…….Even if I rack my brain I can’t come up with an answer. Argh, forget about it. We can think about it tomorrow!

It’s still early to take a bath or eat dinner, so let’s just watch TV or something and laze around.

Newscaster 1: It has been confirmed that the reproductive ability of the specimens from the outbreak this year is extremely weak, so it seems it will not be that large of an impact.

Newscaster 2: Even that part of them is strange. Will that mystery ever be clarified one day?

Orion: …...Or at least, that was what supposed to happen……

Ikki: Well, that’s how it is, so let’s go see the fireflies tomorrow night together.

Orion: Ikki suddenly invited you out……

Didn’t you make the promise to watch fireflies with Toma and the others~? Is it actually Ikki~?

Ikki: You have the day off after tomorrow, right? If that’s the case then you can afford to spend a lot of time out tomorrow night. How about it?

I proposed the idea to him only a mere 3 minutes ago. He coercively pushed me into coming with him whether I agreed to or not.

Orion: Is that so…… Wait, so does that mean Kent isn’t the person with whom you made that “promise”?

Kent: …...Be that as it may, I was also thinking I’d like to show you the fireflies. As such, I will help out as much as possible.

Orion: Eh. Wait, which is it?!

Kent: Well, that’s how it is. I’ll also be expecting a favorable response. Now if you’ll excuse me.

Orion: Don’t just say “excuse me” and then walk off……! Talk to us more~! Let’s talk about last year’s promise or something……!

Ugh…...We don’t have time to question Kent and there’s a customer to boot……

???: Hello. Are there seats open?

Orion: Oh hey, it’s Ukyo. This guy sure has become a regular at this store.

This is Ukyo. He’s a frequent customer at this store, and…...I don’t know any other information about him……

I know he does work as a cameraman or something, but…...Other than that…...Hmm.

He says a lot of things that don’t make any sense, he sometimes flips out at things, and he often gives in to pressure. That’s the kind of strange person he is.

It’s not like he’s a bad person or anything, but I think it’d be bad if we trusted in Ukyo.

Ukyo even says himself, “Don’t trust me!” after all.

Ukyo: Um, I’ll have a Kilimanjaro. Also, is Waka-san here?

I managed to get some pictures of what he wanted to see, so I’d like to show them to him……

Waka: If it isn’t Ukyo-dono. So you’ve come to visit this store again. I am always thankful for your patronage.

Ukyo: Hello there, Waka-san. I was just asking if you were here.

Waka: Oh? Do you have some business with me?

Ukyo: I have some pictures to show you. Waka-san, didn’t you say you wanted to see pictures of fireflies?

Orion: Eh, again with the fireflies?!

Ukyo: Last night, while I was sleeping at the river bed, I thought I saw some flickering lights so I opened my eyes.

Orion: …...Why was he sleeping so naturally at a river bed?

Ukyo: And then, once I woke up and took a closer look, those flickering lights were actually fireflies.

I was surprised. I didn’t think I would see fireflies in such a downtown area.

Waka: For two consecutive years, last year and this year, there has been coverage every day on the abnormal occurrences of the fireflies. I do not think it might be due to that but...

Ukyo: Huh, is that so? I don’t watch the news, so I had no idea…...

…...That’s likely to be something only occurring in this world. I haven’t heard about this in other worlds after all……

Waka: This world?

Ukyo: Ah, no. I’m just talking to myself.

I’ve always wanted to take pictures of Japanese fireflies, so once I realized they were there I immediately started pressing my camera shutter.

These are those pictures. Please take a look for yourselves.

Waka: …...This is……!

Ukyo: The large spots are the lights from fireflies, and the small ones are the lights from the stars.

I took pictures of the fireflies using the night sky as a background while lying down on the river bed.

That’s why the lights from the stars is mixed in with the lights from the fireflies.

Waka: …...What a marvelous sight……! These are fabulous photos…….It is a scene one could hardly imagine was real.

Ukyo: Haha. But it actually happened. If you’d like, would you like to witness the actual thing with your own eyes?

This river bed is close by to here, so if you’d like to go there it’s entirely possible. Shall I guide you there?

Waka: …...A river bed, you say.

…...Yes, that may be good. Very well……

I would like to take you up on that offer and ask you to guide us. I would relish the chance to be able to view this spectacle with my own two eyes. Would that be alright with you?

Ukyo: I’ll gladly take you there. I’m free to go whenever, so I’ll match up to whenever is convenient for you.

Waka: Well then, please wait a moment. I shall go check up on my schedule.

Orion: …...Why does everyone want to see fireflies so badly. Do they have some sort of emotional attachment to them or something?

From what angle do you shoot from to make it come out like this?

Ukyo: You take them from below. I was looking up at the starry sky and the fireflies while lying down on the river bed.

It just happened to be a night where the stars came out beautifully, so the pictures came out nicely. I happened to be lucky that day.

Kent: However, even if amateurs like us were to take pictures under the same conditions, I’m sure they wouldn’t come out as beautifully as this.

We wouldn’t know which of the two, the faraway stars or the fireflies, to focus on. You also seem to be deeply informed on the other techniques as well.

Ukyo: Well, I am a professional more or less.

But since the performance of digital cameras has been so good lately, even amateurs can take good pictures.

Ikki: Where did you take these photos? Was there a place where this many fireflies appeared……?

Waka: It seems it was at the river bed nearby. However, I have never seen them there before as well.

Kent: …...That scope of area is too wide so I don’t quite understand. Could you describe from which side of the river bed you saw them from in more detail?

Listen, okay? If you go to the river bed in search of fireflies, you could slip and hit your head on a rock, end up falling into the river and nearly drowning, and then crash into a piece of driftwood flowing downstream.

You might end up freezing on the street at night, or mistaking the light from a cigarette to be a firefly and end up burning yourself, or even get hit by a meteorite happening to fall down.

The fence keeping your from falling into the river might collapse and crush you underneath it, or you might end up stabbing yourself in the chest with the handle of your fan the moment you fall……

Those sorts of things might end up happening to you, you know?!!

Orion: AS IF THEY WOULD!!!!

What the heck?! What’s up with this guy?! There’s no way a meteorite would fall on you or a piece of driftwood would hit you, right?! Just what on earth is he imagining?!

…...But amongst all those things there is at least one possible mistake that could happen.

Mistaking the light of a cigarette for a firefly…...I wonder if that’s ever happened to Ukyo before?

Ikki: Ukyo, I don’t think that’s possible. Even if you are worried about her this level of concern is quite extreme.

Kent: It’s just as Ikkyu says. If you go that far, this falls into the category of delusions rather than concern.

Ukyo: But the feeling of shock you feel the moment you mistake the ember of a cigarette on the side of the road for a firefly is no joke, you know?!

Toma: It’s because you put in shifts on days right before your exams. And besides, you just did that recently, didn’t you?

Just the other day, once the manager found out about this, he tried to commit seppuku again to make up for supposedly getting in the way of a minor’s studies.

Since that would be troublesome, we decided that from now on I would be in charge of checking your shifts, Shin.

[MC]’s was just an addition to that.

Shin: …...I thought the manager had been oddly meddling with my shifts lately. So that was your doing, Toma……!

Toma: That’s fine, but on the other hand isn’t it kinda plain?

Shin: If she paired it with a colorful obi wouldn’t it balance out?

Toma: You say that, but exactly what color obi would you put against a blue background?

Shin: …...Why do you look like you dislike that idea.

Toma: Because it’ll overlap with the color of my yukata. Wouldn’t it look weird whenever we would stand next to each other?

I think it’s a good idea to never go out with those two ever again! It was a lot of fun but it was too much work!

…...Yeah, even though it was tiring it was fun, wasn’t it? Toma knows about a lot of stuff, and although Shin’s blunt he’s also kind.

Ikki, Kent, and Shin and Toma too…...Even Ukyo, the manager, and the girls, as well.

Everyone’s so kind to you, huh? …...I pretty much like all of them.

But…...among all those people, just who did you promise to see fireflies with?

Orion: Both of their yukatas are feminine and suit them nicely, but these accessories sure are amazing.

Although, no matter how many accessories Rika puts on, in her case her yukata actually looks more plain than her usual clothes…..

Orion: When I look at Sawa she seems oddly refreshing. I wonder why I feel so relieved…...

We did have a lot of trouble picking it out, though. Our opinions wouldn’t match, and by the end it had pretty much turned into an argument.

Toma: It’s not like I was trying to decide for you, it’s because you were unreasonably about to wear geta that didn’t fit you.

I told you your toes would hurt, but you just wouldn’t listen to me.

Shin: After that I properly tried out a new pair before buying them, didn’t I?

Orion: Seeing Shin in a yukata suddenly gives him a mature vibe, doesn’t it? His black yukata sure is cool.

On the other hand, Toma gives off the impression of a young master from some store. It also surprisingly suits him.

Ikki: So Shin and Toma picked out [MC]’s yukata? *sigh* What a pity…….

If I knew you didn’t have a yukata I would’ve gladly picked one out for you. I’ve failed.

Kent: So something that small makes you depressed, I see. How useless, Ikkyu. There isn't any particular significance in picking out someone's yukata.

Orion: I'm surprised at how the two of them look. Ikki looks so sharply dressed while Kent looks like a student from older times.

…...Well, in regards to Kent, I kinda wanna ask him where they sell belt-like obis like his.

Ikki: The act of choosing a yukata in itself doesn't have any particular meaning, but wouldn't it be pretty nice to see her wearing a yukata you chose?

Kent: …...That’s……

Ikki: Wouldn't it?

Kent: N-No…...It’s not like I'm particularly interested in that.

Ikki: That isn't the face nor the voice of an uninterested man, Ken.

Hah~......It really is a shame. I got outwitted by Toma and Shin.

Rika: Eh, [MC]’s yukata was selected by Toma and the others?!

Aah, really now, if that's the case then I would have liked to have chosen one for her as well……!

I would have went around to all the stores that sell yukata and used all my power to find one that suited her the best!

This is oh so regrettable……!

It seems like you're really loved by everyone, huh? I mean, that's a good thing, but…...

Sawa: ……[MC]. Isn't it painful with everyone's love being so heavy……?

I'm the only one who keeps a proper distance to be with you. We're friends, after all!

I wonder if it's because he's wearing a yukata and his hair is tied up, but he doesn't seem as shady as he usually does.

Ukyo: When you’re in my position, it’s pretty typical to live watching over others from the shadows of grass or hiding in the darkness. Like from one “good morning” to the next.

Well, either way…...He looks pretty “youthful” which fits the meaning of his name to a frightening degree. I’m not fully satisfied by that, though.

Ukyo: …...Well, it looks like everyone’s here, so shall we head out?

Everyone, please follow without coming too close or falling behind, and out of range of any attack I may make.

Ukyo: Huh……? That’s strange……

Rika: It seems that there aren’t any fireflies here……

Sawa: We’ve been searching for some time now, though…...Maybe they got surprised and ran away due to our large group?

Kent: No, I doubt that would be the case. It is precisely because fireflies lack that sort of behavior that the custom of firefly catching exists.

Toma: Then that means…...The real cause is actually……

Shin: That Ukyo took us to the wrong place?

Ukyo: Urk……!

Mine: Also, doesn’t Ukyo have no sense of direction to begin with?

Ukyo: Urgh…...B-But, I clearly remember where I took those pictures, though……

Waka: Now, now. This area is a wide river bed, so it may be difficult to pinpoint exactly where that spot was.

Amnesia Later: New World Prologue Part 1

Amnesia Later is the first fandisk for Amnesia and consists of several parts to the game, including New World and After Story. New World is basically an AU of sorts that focuses on a scenario where the MC is dating no one and the staff of Meido no Hitsuji make summer plans together. I’ve split the prologue into 2 parts for more easy reading (and workload on myself....) This first half focuses on giving a short recap of the game’s plot as well as introducing the cast.

This was the story of a certain world, a certain country, a certain girl.

August 1st.

When the girl opened her eyes, she had lost all of her memories. Beside her was a mysterious boy named Orion who called himself a spirit. The spirit Orion told her that it was his fault she lost her memories. In accordance with Orion’s advice, who told her he would help her with anything in order to gain back her memories, the girl began to examine her surroundings…….

Eventually the girl’s relationships became clear, complicated and entangled intentions started to be seen, and the real reason why she had lost her memories.

----Orion had a flash of insight.

“I see now. Her losing her memories wasn’t due to me crashing into her!”

The organization members that appear before the girl desperately working to understand everything. The evil influences that stretch out their hands. Will the girl be able to retrieve her memories? What is the true reason she lost her memories? Will Orion be able to protect her?

Huh? Are you still sleepy?

You did hold a strategy meeting with me up until late last night after all.

But to say something like “Who are you again…...?” right after waking up is a little harsh for being half-asleep, you know?

You seem to be a little out of it so I tried to summarize your current situation up until now in a simple manner.

What I talked about just now was an outline of what happened from August 1st up until today. I’m the spirit Orion. Do you remember now?

On top of that, she said convenience store bread is no good and that it had to be this store specifically here. Apparently she’s been gathering up points at this place.

What do you think of someone who causes trouble for others because of his or her personal mistake? I mean, I’ll still go to where she told me to.

This guy is Kent. He’s also a senior at your workplace and seems to be a graduate student at Seichi University.

Kent: You got 68 points. Well, I also had a feeling I raised the difficulty level too high since it was a commemorative 500th puzzle.

There’s also the possibility that we consult the two of them as well. In that case, rather than just choosing one of them it might be better to ask them together……

Kent: In place of the fresh basil you ordered for, a large amount of dried basil has been delivered instead.

Waka: However, to have the manager of all people make a mistake regarding the contents of an order is an eternal disgrace!

The only way to wipe out such shame is to slit my belly…..!

Ikki: Like we just said, this is modern-day Japan. This is a cafe. This isn’t Edo Castle nor the Pine Hallway.

Please quit that bad habit of jumping to commit seppuku so quickly, seriously.

Kent: Anyhow, I wish to replace today’s pasta with a different menu. Using the small amount of peperoncino we have seems reasonable to me.

I took the liberty of making use of those ingredients. Although it wasn’t much preparation, honestly. Is that alright with you, manager?

Ikki: Well then, since that’s settled…...Shall we open up Meido no Hitsuji?

Orion: Alright, Table 6 is all clear!

Whew~ It sure is a pain when someone orders the “Stew of the Day.” The pot’s hot and heavy after all.

If his hands are free Ikki will carry it for us, but we can’t rely on him to do that for us every time.

…….But just why on earth does a cafe have a “Stew of the Day”? Does that even make sense?

All 3 of them are part of the Meido no Hitsuji staff. And for the most part, everyone who works here generally get along with one another.

They let me live on my own so I could be able to start an independent lifestyle, so dealing with colds and such is also part of self-responsibility.

Due to the change in environment, I’m not sure if we’ll be able to expect finding them there this year.

Mine: Then what should we do? Should we just go to the mountains then?

Sawa: Ooh, mountains sound nice! Staying in a lodge! Camping! Barbeque! Oh, but you also can’t forget about curry.

Toma: You’re a high school student as well as preparing to take exams so staying overnight is a no-go. Maybe next year.

Toma: I’m the overseer after all so I have to be in regards to that.

And besides, it’s not like I’m kind in the first place.

Sawa: Uwah, he said it himself. …...Well, we did say we were gonna go on a day trip this time around.

Orion: Is this about a trip or something? Do you have plans to go hang out somewhere on a day trip……?

Mine: …...Hey, that’s right. Say, Senpai. Where do you want to go?

Orion: Eh?! …...W-What are they talking about?

Sawa: Ah, that’s right. You’re the leader after all so why don’t you pick?

Orion: The leader?! Did [MC] have plans to join too?! And on top of that you’re the leader apparently…...Eeeeeeeeh.

Toma: Her and Shin are like my family after all. I tend to look after them more than what’s necessary.

Thanks to that Shin calls me irritating, and lately even [MC] has been acting oddly distant from me.

But anyway, it’s been awhile since I’ve been relied on so Big Brother will do his best.

If I can’t find a good place within the neighborhood then we’ll have to go a bit further out. That’s okay with you, right?

In case we go somewhere far, have you all been saving your part-time earnings properly? Well, I’m sure at the very least a one-way ticket would only be a few thousand yen.

Sawa: It’s OK with me! …...Probably.

Mine: Of course. I’m pretty serious when it comes to saving money.

Toma: You’re okay too, right [MC]? You did tell me last month that’s why you’ve been coming in to work so much.

Orion: Eh, really?! I did think you had a lot of shifts but it was for that reason?!

Even though it’s determined you guys will be going somewhere, it also seems like there’s some goal in mind. Just exactly what is it though……?
