planner update • 07/17/18

still using the michaels creative year by recollections medium sized wirebound planner for now!

under a cut for length.

for 2018-2019, the planners that have a vertical hourly layout (vs. the 3-block erin condren style vertical layout or a horizontal layout) are the “coast” planner & the “watercolor stripes” planner.

recollections planners are a dupe for the 7x9″ erin condren life planner, the 7x9″ plum paper planner, and the 7x9″ limelife planner.

recollections planners’ base price is $29.99, and frequently go on sale at michaels; michaels also routinely offers 40% off coupons for non-sale items. plum paper planners start at $32, but can be customized for an additional cost. limelife (for monthly + weekly layouts) and erin condren planners start at $55, but can be customized for an additional cost.

all four use a 4:1 pitch metal coil. inserts, custom covers, and dashboards made for all three are interchangeable. erin condren's planners are expensive, but they have a wide variety of affordable add-ons, and you can get $10 off your first order here.

ec has also begun offering a subscription box for $35, which comes with a limited edition cover set + stickers and other accessories.

pages from each can be added to the others if you’re rewiring your planner (or are just willing to rewire to add pages specifically). both plastic & metal replacement coils are available cheaply from a wide variety of sellers online.

joann fabrics sells 1/8″ single-hole hand hole punches if you want to add pages or custom inserts yourself, and runs 20-25% off coupons regularly, including for signing up to their emails/text alerts & using their app. michaels also offers a multi-hole punch board specifically designed for planners if that’s a long-term investment you want to make.

many people make laminated custom covers & extra pockets for their planners, and will also use a corner punch like these to round off the sharp edges. I don’t own a laminator, and the cost for making a cover I would want (in decorative paper, cost of lamination, then time & labor cutting and hole-punching) basically evens out to just ordering one online; so I don’t have any specific recommendations on the matter.

there are lots of printables out there though, both for free & on places like etsy; just search any of the matching planners + “custom cover” or “printable” and results should pile up. likewise, many people sell custom covers on ebay & etsy.

elastic bands are available for purchase to hold all these planners closed, but most etsy bands are repurposed cheap elastic headbands or elastic ribbon hair tie/headbands, and target dollar spot, dollar tree, and the like can readily compete with that product availability.

you can also add an elastic closure using this eyelet method, but I’ve had elastic fray & fall apart with that before. this might have been because of the quality of my elastic, or the material not being large enough to hold my notebooks closed, so ymmv. barbed elastic (this link is just an example, not a reccomendation) is also an option, but I’ve never tried it with a planner.

There is something about the crisp, fall-like weather that makes me want to put on a hoodie (currently wearing), take walks in the park (later today), and do DIY projects (earlier this morning).
