Undergrad Nostalgia💭

Throwback time!!!! As a PROUD graduate of the Incomparable, Illustrious, Indescribable Coppin State University💙💛, and with Springtime just around the corner, I can’t help but feel a bit nostalgic lately. As a current grad student at a American University, I am missing the HBCU Undergrad lifestyle FIERCELY. With Daylight savings time, more sunlight, and warmer weather around the corner, campus starts to get a little more 🔥! It’s Grad Season!!!! Probate Season is almost over, the yard is about to jump with Spring Fling, Clubs & Org day, Set Owts, and all around more life. 

Senior Year/Spring semester 2016 was POPPIN for me. Jam packed with Black Voices events, protests, final portfolios, community involvement, SGA shenanigans, and Final exams. The main goals within my friend circle was to turn all the way up and to change the culture of the university before graduation. One of the things we did during this time was Teach In’s with Mama Koko. With everything happening after the killing of Freddie Gray by the police here in Baltimore and just feeling a need to be more informed as a campus, teach in’s (outside lol) sounded like the perfect solution.✊🏾

 As someone who knows the Legend that is Mama Koko, I was HYPE! I ,unfortunately, was never able to enroll in one of her English or Writing courses before they filled up. So, the opportunity to be taught by her, just to hear her speak in general was something about Undergrad that I’ll never forget. Experiencing that wealth of knowledge with my peers and doing so in a nontraditional way was once in a lifetime. I wish my university and the professors would create more opportunities for that type of learning. I’m a believer that it is easier to remember an experience more so than anything taught to you in a classroom or on an exam. So for all my Spring 2019 grads out there, enjoy this semester to the fullest, make the DOPEST memories, and make your impact upon the culture of your university. It’ll make becoming an Alumnus that much sweeter🎓🌻
