Watching the Cait Corrain situation like...
"Authors of colour are at risk of getting reviewed bombed because of white woman tears"
Oh, you mean like how Malulani Moreno was almost three years ago because he may have had a burner account criticizing the women who have taken over YA centered on gay teenagers and young adults? The same Malulani Moreno who lost his publishing deal, had a mental breakdown, and turned back toward Catholicism?

[Commission] Malulani 2023
New shiny reference sheet for Lewdupine of one of the best girls, Malulani the Puerto Rican Woodpecker! I absolutely love her so much, and integrating symbolism from back home makes her mean so much to me!  Made using Clip Studio Paint~!

Exclusive Cover Reveal: An Island Without You by Malulani Moreno
Exclusive Cover Reveal: An Island Without You by Malulani Moreno
I’m so, so excited to have Malulani Moreno on the site today to reveal the cover of his debut, Hawai‘i-set contemporary YA An Island Without You, which releases from Abrams Books on January 4, 2022! Here’s the story: When Keoni’s longtime bully Spencer disappears, he’s ecstatic: Life as a sixteen-year-old gay outcast in Wahiawā, Hawai‘i just got a lot easier. But Keoni can’t seem to escape…

Marianne Cope, born in eighteen thirty-eight in Heppenheim, Germany. Only one year old when taken to the United States, in eighteen sixty-two she entered the Third Order Regular of Saint Francis at Syracuse, New York. Later, as Superior General of her congregation, Mother Marianne willingly embraced a call to care for the lepers of Hawaii after many others had refused. She personally went, with six of her fellow sisters, to manage a hospital on Oahu, later founding Malulani Hospital on Maui and opening a home for girls whose parents were lepers. Five years after that she accepted the invitation to open a home for women and girls on the island of Molokai itself, bravely going there herself and effectively ending her contact with the outside world. There she looked after Father Damien, already famous for his heroic work among the lepers, nursed him as he died and took over his work among male lepers. At a time when little could be done for those suffering from this terrible disease, Marianne Cope showed the highest love, courage and enthusiasm. She is a shining and energetic example of the best of the tradition of Catholic nursing sisters and of the spirit of her beloved Saint Francis. (Pope Benedict XVI)

That book I just reblogged a post about “an island without you” by Malulani Moreno has a bunch of 1 star reviews and shitty comments from gender weirdos who didn’t even read it (it’s literally not coming out until Jan 2022 from what I can see) 🙄 anyway you can preorder on amazon, $18.99 for hardcover and $9.99 for the kindle ebook. At least there’s no comments on Amazon. I plan to pre-order the ebook and give it a read when it comes out, then leave an honest comment about the actual content of the book on both goodreads and amazon. If the synopsis interests you and you are able to, I encourage you to do the same 🌺

Over two and a half years later and I'm once again reminded of what went down. I've had the chance to read more literature by gay men based in Ontario (some good, some bad), which has left me feeling depressed. There are so many things that are buried in favour of this mass marketed crap, so many experiences that collect dust.
It also doesn't help that in prepping the resources I need for when I eventually go to grad school, one of the websites hosting all the old journals went under so now 30 years worth of content is missing.
I hate that I feel so useless right now when it comes to lending what little support I can. I wish I hadn't pursued TC so I could have my voice and not have to worry about getting stalked before I even get to cash a cheque.
The Malulani Moreno situation has hit me in a specific way that I decided to buy a book written by a Southern Ontario based (gay male) author who is engaged to they/them “pansexual” man.  Despite the fact that I want to set boundaries from the gender stupidity, at the end of the day this man is kin.
Opposite-sex attracted women like Becky Albertalli can cry into their hundreds of thousands of dollars all they want, but gay men- exclusively same-sex attracted men- are overwhelmingly unemployed and underemployed.  Our labour isn’t valued.

Here are their birthdays: Kara (February 15, 1976) Matt Koolau (September 2, 1978) Mason (March 14, 1981) Kyla Malulani (April 6, 1984) B (April 12,1987) There’s a periscope where he talks about the age gap between them.
that does make it weird how kara considers boyd her dad and he considers her his daughter, but the brothers weren’t with them till b was 8. wonder why they were split based on sex not age, especially considering it seems like he didn’t really meet his brothers until he was 8. (age would’ve made more sense, eg the baby and preschooler makes more sense to be with grace, and it would make more sense to keep kara and matt together considering their ages. and grace and her ex must’ve lived far apart for them to separate the kids long term and not swap who was where as they and the kids pleased/were able. my guess: the view that boys “need” dads eg for gender training, to be “properly masculine/real men”. wonder if something happened to the dad and that’s why the boys went to their mom?)
