I'm surprised there's people that don't get that Owlander/Scratch is almost positiviely Lilith.

Part 20 mentions Lilith for the first time. Kayne goes "Maybe someone likes you and they are just fucking with me, knowing it’ll drive me crazy. (Aside, to himself.) Lillith, you bitch." We know that the mysterious woman/Scratch considers Arthur her "favorite." (Also there's another reference that Kayne's daughter would love Arthur. Nyarlathotep's daughter is Lilith in Lovecraft Mythos). That's an obvious connection but so is her appearance.

In part 38, "The Tear" Scratch's words are described as "almost seductive" in Edward William Allan’s journal. When complete she's described as having "black hair, alabaster skin, and silver eyes." Just like the painting in part 37, "The Farm" where John see's a painting of "of a woman. With black hair. And… pale skin. She’s lovely." John becomes transfixed by the painting. According to the Lovecraft Wiki she is described to usually have "lusty crimson lips, ... billowing raven black hair, and smooth alabaster skin." and is known to daze anyone that see's her and even preys on sleeping men (though to have sex and not on nightmares).

In part 47 Yorrick says she's similar strength to Kayne. If they are related, that would track.

And finally, in certain Bibles, Lilith is translated to "screech owl" or "owl". (Link)

I think it's pretty safe to say Lilith is probably the creature following the boys.
