Watching The Watcher (Visual Novel)

This one is kind of an interesting concept, however, I really wish we got more into the actual yandere aspect of it instead of the tease that we simply got. i think the setup for the game is pretty cool and there are some elements that I think were really neat that could be better fleshed out. This is a demo though, so things are subject to change. If you are interested, you can see it more her eat @watchingthewatchervn.

The story starts out with a bunch of different voices whispering about the MC as they are passed out, making sure that they are the right person. They wake up in the bathroom and hear the your friend outside, Maxine, ask if they are alright. It seems like she ended up spilling a drink on the MC's shirt causing it to get stained and they are cleaning it up in the bathroom. After attempting to clean it up, the MC goes to the back to talk to their boss and Maxine's mother, Ms. Day who allows them to go home. The MC reminisces about how they got their job with Ms. Day, meeting Maxine on the bus and eventually becoming good friends with her. Upon going back to their apartment, the MC accidentally eavesdrops on a conversation between their neighbor Stephen and someone on the phone, which they can decide to eavesdrop on or not. The two of them chat while going up the elevator before the MC goes back to their apartment. After eating someone and then going to sleep, the MC finds the next day that their dirty clothes are missing, wondering if it's similar to what happened before with their dad, as it seems like someone in their past had found them before. The MC hesitantly goes outside of their apartment after hearing a knock and finds Maxine there, surprised that she's not at work. It seems that Maxie has convinced her mom to have the two of you get a later shift at work as an apology. The MC can mention the missing shirt to Maxie, who will tease you about it if you do. The two of you end up going out near a playground and hanging out there until you bring Maxine home. There, the MC recalls a bit of their backstory about the night when their father was murdered, leading to the feeling of paranoia you had at your apartment. You end up going back to your apartment for a bit to rest, only to see Stephen again to chat when him as you go up the elevator. At the diner, you play a small mini game as you get all the orders settled. After work, the MC goes back up the elevator, still thinking about their missing shirt only to see a green haired person with a mask has broken into their apartment. You can either charge at them or create more distance. Depending on your actions, you do have the option to demask them, revealing their face, but regardless, in the end, the MC will get kidnapped by them.

The MC ends up waking up in a room and hears people talking. They sneak out to hear a couple of voices speaking, with two other people there in addition to the green haired guy who kidnapped the MC. The MC will then start to slowly get flashbacks as they realize that the person who killed their dad that night was in that room.

As much as I think that learning about Maxine and Stephen are interesting, I really wish that this game focused more on, well, the watchers. The watchers (which I assume are the people who kidnap the MC in the game) are genuinely really interesting in the way that they're set up, kinda showing this sort of horror mystery of who they are to the people playing it. We get to see that this isn't the first time that them and the MC have interacted with each other and that the MC has some trauma over it already, given that it seems like they were the ones who killed their father. We only get to see this kind of thing shown three times in the game, with the second time when the MC goes to Maxine's house and it feels very much like it was brushed aside given there weren't any visuals or changes. I was actually quite surprised they let such a strong and interesting backstory to be revealed with just going to Maxine's place, since it does seem like a very important part of the story. I really wish that the game was either longer to show more of who the Watchers are or focused more on the murder aspect instead of the more slice of life elements that we got. As much as I think that Maxine is a really fun character, she seems to mostly be focused on the part where the MC works, and while that's good and fine, considering that the MC gets kidnapped, I would assume that we won't see her for very long afterwards. but I don't really see why it's as important to flesh out her character as compared to the Watchers or even Stephen. Perhaps we'll see in the future, and it does state that the demo would be extended and rewritten so that we can focus more on the other characters, but I honestly think that the game should focus a bit more on the mystery aspect since it is the most interesting.

I do like the designs of the characters I've seen so far though. The idea of them wearing masks like this and the fact that the MC has actually met them in the past before is a genuinely interesting idea. I like the small mini game that you can play memorizing everyone's orders as well, since I think it gives it a bit more of an interactive element for the game. If there were more visual elements on those type of games I think that it would be even more immersive.

Overall, I think the game presents some pretty cool ideas, but I think that the demo should work on prioritizing some of them before others. While I definitely advocate more for exploring more in depth on the mystery aspect, I am curious to see how this game will go about in the future.

After finding your stuff he was ready to get angry, expecting it to be filled with mockery or low effort, shallow work only to be pleasantly surprised. While you do still make a few jabs and jokes here and there, he can't find it in himself to get upset the way he usually does in cases like this because your work is actually GOOD- like really good.

Youve covered some of the killers of the past he looks up to well, clearly doing your research, and that had him hooked, going through new and old articles and videos (even the few collab pieces youve done or sillier, unrelated stuff too) and learning everything he can about you from there.

So imagine his surprise (and delight) when not only does he see a new post about The Ghostface (how sweet of you to write about him <3) , but finds out you operate right here in his city.

◇ My HC is that Lurien is a moth, he used to serve Radiance back on her glory days, until PKs arrival to Hallownest. He was her counselor and a pretty close figure to her. So, when he joined most of the tribe to turn agaisnt her control, she tried to stop him as a "you stay alive or leave death".

In the end, he resulted gravely injured on the way that Radiance thought he was dead. Leaving Lurien with half of his body burned, without an eye and one of his wings destroyed.

He seeked for assylum from the Pale King and was accepted into his kingdom to become the Watcher of the city where he lives peacefully until his old master takes revenge on what was took away from her.

He doesn't ask for a last wish as a dreamer as having that second oportunity and getting to know PK is enough for him...
