Setos: Héroes Olvidados de la Naturaleza en los Campos Agrícolas
En un sorprendente giro científico, los setos, anteriormente vistos como causantes de malas hierbas, emergen como aliados cruciales para la biodiversidad agrícola. Un estudio pionero encabezado por el Inrae y otros colaboradores ha revelado que los setos, especialmente en los pintorescos bocages franceses, promueven la diversidad vegetal y mantienen a raya a las malas hierbas.
Desde la posguerra, la modernización agrícola condujo a la pérdida constante de setos en Francia, dejando huellas ecológicas. Sin embargo, este estudio sugiere una solución prometedora. Reintroducir setos podría revitalizar la biodiversidad y abordar el cambio climático, además de su papel en la captura de carbono.
Estos hallazgos cuestionan normas establecidas. La restauración de setos y la adopción de enfoques agroecológicos pueden guiar hacia la sostenibilidad agrícola, preservando la biodiversidad y contrarrestando el cambio climático.
