I’ve gone through Demihuman Deities a lot so I don’t know how I’ve missed / kept missing this! It’s a pretty cool piece of art honestly. I like it a lot, especially the fact that Rillifane looks like a TREE (plus this artisitc rendition is kind of giving me Tin Man vibes with how he looks) :D

Lolth’s ex kind of has style. Although I have no idea what’s going on with Corellon’s neck. Is it a brace? turtle neck? One of those medieval times styled neck ruffles? Who knows! Not me~

i guess this is a hot take but i really do think 'grooming' is the least interesting way to think about gale and mystra, though I can see why in-character, gale and others might articulate it that way for lack of a better comparison.

but while mystra's line to gale about how he was her lover but understands her so little is, you know, kind of savage in the circumstances, i think it's also true, and something even she only fully realised after gale found the orb. gale is having a lot of messy human emotions in response to a break-up, and he ascribes those kinds of feelings to mystra, too: that having him detonate the orb is a petty punishment, that she feels threatened by him, that if he tries hard enough he can get her attention again. i'm not sure to what extent he ever fully accepts on-screen (except possibly at the very end of his non-god romance) that mystra is an entity with a personality and passions and preferences, yes, but who is fundamentally without human-scale emotions.

i think that mystra didn't realise how little gale understood her, not in the sense of 'my boyfriend got me a terrible gift, doesn't he know me,' but in that gale clearly does not understand that they are, on a cosmic level, not equal, and cannot be. and I think she in turn doesn't understand how devastating it is for a human to be drawn so close to a god, to exist in a space that is not meant for them, and to love someone who is incapable of giving human love back. i don't think she can be said to have 'groomed' gale in part because that implies an agenda of abuse she simply didn't have: i don't think it ever occurred to her that their relationship could or would be traumatic for gale, because that is not the scale on which she experiences the world.

i keep thinking about the lines from the book about kelemvor that you can find: 'As a mortal man he was a mercenary with a paladin's stoic beliefs hidden under a crust of scowls and grumbles. As Lord of Death, he was forced to mellow both aspects of himself, for the impulses of a man and a god are not consummate. Mortals are allowed caprice, but immortality wears that stone smooth quickly'.

if mystra were as petty, emotional, and vindictive as gale sometimes convinces himself that she is, then he'd have a real problem, because she literally is the weave-- he can't do magic without her, without connecting to her. i do think she feels more for and about gale than she knows she should, but she also can and does step outside of that, and view and experience things from the cosmic perspective of a god who cannot ruin one mortal's life because he betrayed her.

but also, she doesn't need to have intended to harm gale to have done so, and she doesn't need to have 'groomed' him for him to be traumatised by having his mentor (who is also his goddess) become his lover (who is, again, a goddess).

Love when my character tells off the god that she's been stuck with for most of the campaign and rejects him and says some of the coolest things she's said in the campaign so far like "my weakest moment was giving myself to you; and if you took your power away from me now, I would be stronger for it" and then he turned her into a deer and sent a bunch of beasts of malar after her.

I literally have had a malar rash for over a week and my doctor blew me off bc I tested negative for my ana last year. Is there anything I can do to help with the burning sensation?

oh my god i’m so sorry, i know that pain is so fucking distressing + impairing and it’s absolutely neglectful of your doctor not to both run your rheum panel again & prescribe you a topical steroid for management in the meantime. jesus christ that’s so fucked, you don’t deserve this.

feel free to just skip this paragraph if this isn’t an option for you but if you’re able to access a different doctor i think it could be worth trying just for symptom management — when i was struggling to get in with a rheum i visited a dermatologist & while she unfortunately just recommended my future rheum put me on hydroxychloroquine without doing it herself, she at least gave me the steroid cream which helps so much with the pain. & that’s something a PCP who was actually interested in treating patients rather than gatekeeping care could prescribe even if they thought you have rosacea not lupus.

gonna divide this into type of strategy just so all my advice is clustered in the same post but some of this might not be relevant to you, feasible, affordable/accessible, etc. as always other folks feel free to add advice if you have any!

basically your goal is to minimize sun (especially UV rays) as much as possible, to your face especially but your whole body as needed.

immediate term:

stay indoors as much as possible + close the blinds/curtains

outdoors: sunscreen + hat + long sleeves/pants (loose/thin material in the heat)

if you drive, bike, or do another activity where your hands are exposed to sunlight, wearing gloves; UV blocking fabric is most effective but anything is better than nothing

for pain relief: i haven’t found anything that helped more than temporarily (other than the steroid cream obv) but an unscented lotion, aloe vera, or cream can help for a little bit. similarly damp soft cloths, baby wipes, or gel bead ice packs just kinda draped gently over your face.

longer term ways to limit sun exposure:

full curtains (possibly blackout curtains)

tinted car windows

UV-blocking fabric

this is really only feasible in my situation because i’m in a car with someone supportive but should i become able to leave the house again my plan is literally just to have a blanket over my head lmao

i hope some of this is helpful & that you’re able to get some relief as soon as possible 💓💓 you deserve comprehensive testing & care + access to the treatment options you want

about two weeks ago i started cutting back Significantly on the amount of amphetamines and caffeine i consume because i'd been (understandably) using them to self-medicate the lupus fog for ages, so just like. using them for things way separate from my normal ADHD. now that the lupus is being treated i actually have the capacity to make more long-term-planning choices about what i eat and what drugs i do.

but then over the past two or three days i started feeling really agitated and got super anxious about it bc i was like "i.... have not been abusing stimulants badly enough to still have significant withdrawal symptoms now. what gives"

anyway turns out it wasn't withdrawal. i took a little walk and bussed over to the grocery store for a couple items and said good morning to several neighbors and now i feel literally fine. no more agitation or anxiety or desire to wake all my partners up to give me attention. as in i'm actually regaining enough physical function that i HAVE to move my body a little bit or i go crazy.

i have been bedridden miserable sleepykat for well over a year now. can't believe i now HAVE to TAKE WALKS to FEEL BETTER. this is AMAZING.
