creative process:
30% cool rocks
50% having no idea how people keep shawls on or refusing to believe any of the many ideas I’ve been presented with

Absolutely crazy how everytime starting a sock you’re like, that’s far too Smol to ever fit on my foot. It’s just, so tiny. Could never.

And then you’re like: call me Cinderella, it’s a perfect match. 💃🩰🪩

you can kind of see where the two pieces were kitchenered together but i don't think it'll be noticeable to people who don't knit. my tension with the kitchener stitch suckeddd and there's unfortunately a couple super loose stitches right in front but whatever, nothing is perfect.
i'm pretty happy with it :) technically breakup top number two because my mom bought me the yarn after i moved back home

I went to the local knitting guild's meeting yesterday, and was encouraged to bring a project to work on (since everyone besides the officers running the meeting will knit through the whole meeting), and I ended up getting nearly 20 more rows on my sock! Enough that the yarn coming from the ball is noticeably lighter, even if it hasn't shown up in the actual knitting yet.

plausibly im going to go with these, warp in the solid weft in the variegated. my main hesitation is that if the weft actually looks terrible when i start working it up, i almost definitely don't have anything else around that will go with this warp, and then i will have a puzzle to deal with. my other main hesitation is that it's insanely bright and i don't actually know anyone who seems like theyre desperate to wear this color combination and im somewhat worried its busyness will compete with being a nice exercise in herringbone

I want to build things with the idea of specific people enjoying them again, instead of with an eye toward being able to easily recycle the yarn the way I have been lately.

Hey, remember that shawl I posted about starting back at the beginning of August?
Yeah, the yarn decided it really wanted to fulfil the destiny of it's name instead.
Just a few more rounds before I start the toe decreases.

behold! my first glove, made with cascade heritage sock in charcoal.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[IDs: several photos of a hand wearing a knit heathered dark grey glove, which is fingerless toward the tip of the pointer finger and thumb. close-up shots show both sides of the thumb gusset and join, as well as the join between the pinky and ring finger.]
it was just intended for practice & will soon be frogged entirely, but i’m still very proud of it! my first complete pair will be knit with malabrigo ultimate sock in piedras as a gift for my sibling :) i decided to knit this practice glove because i was worried abt ladders & eyelets, but they didn’t even end up being issues for me! the glove did turn out a bit baggy at the palm, so i’ll make sure to factor in a bit of negative ease for the actual pair, & do the stitch calculations for each finger before beginning anything so i can make sure the math all adds up ahead of time 😅 i ended up having to make mini gussets in btwn some of the fingers, so now i also know to work the decreases towards the inside cast-on/pick up edge & to Not take sts from the main body, since that makes them quite visible. ‘twas a nice exercise :)
bonus: piedras, which i’m super excited to work with! it's my first time using malabrigo yarn
Tumblr media
[ID: a hank of sock yarn. it is earth-toned, with reds, browns, oranges, blues, greens, and purples.]

Guess who got herself some gifts because she has decided on the sock pattern she’ll use during her holiday and needed the appropriate colours (and then decided to treat herself as she’s never tried malabrigo wool and so decided to see what the fuss is about)

Every time I start a project in a sock or fingering weight yarn I have to remind myself that patience is a virtue, patience is a virtue, patience is a virtue…
The 4 ½” that I’ve completed over the past 3 days (or about 32 rows) would be 2 hats if I were using a bulky yarn 🧶
On the plus side, it’s going to be interesting when I’m done, and the yarn’s a lot nicer to work with than the cattail silk version I suffered through this summer.
