March 10, 2023 - Malabar Pied-Hornbill (Anthracoceros coronatus) Found in southwestern and eastern India and much of Sri Lanka, these hornbills live in forests in hilly areas and near rivers. They eat mostly fruit, as well as some leaves and small animals, including insects and lizards, foraging in small flocks. Laying their eggs from March to September, females seal themselves into tree cavities, leaving only a small opening for males to pass food to them. They break out when the chicks grow too large, reseal the cavities, and feed the chicks along with the males. Classified as Near Threatened by the IUCN, their moderately small population is declining due to continuing habitat loss.

The Western Ghats Of India This mountain range that extends along the western coast of India (where I'm from :D) is a global biodiversity hotspot. Even though the western ghats cover just under 6 per cent of the land area of India, these mountains contain more than 30 per cent of all plant, fish, bird, and mammal species found in India. 😌 Animals featured in the illustration- Malabar pied hornbill, Grey headed bulbul, Malabar Giant Squirrel, Indian Leopard, Gaur and Bicolored frog

Beat you, Malabar whistling thrush chi

Nestled in the heart of Madhya Pradesh, Pench National Park is a paradise for nature enthusiasts and wildlife lovers. With its dense forests, rolling hills, and diverse fauna, this sanctuary offers visitors a chance to escape the chaos of everyday life and reconnect with nature. And for those seeking luxury alongside adventure, luxury resorts in Pench National Park provide an ideal blend of opulence, comfort, and immersion into the wilderness.
In this detailed overview, we’ll dive into the experiences that make a stay at these resorts truly remarkable, focusing on key activities like jungle safaris, nature walks, birdwatching, wellness sessions, and more. We'll explore how these resorts offer a balance of high-end amenities while staying connected to the pristine wilderness that surrounds them.
1. Jungle Safaris: Discover the Majesty of the Wild
One of the primary draws of Pench National Park is its incredible wildlife. The park is home to the Bengal tiger, which has become the symbol of Indian wildlife conservation. However, Pench is not just about the tiger; it is home to a variety of species, including leopards, wild dogs, jackals, and countless herbivores like spotted deer, sambar, and gaur.
Most luxury resorts in Pench National Park provide private or semi-private jungle safaris for their guests. These safaris are typically conducted twice a day—early in the morning and in the evening—when the animals are most active. The experience begins with an expert naturalist who guides visitors through the intricate trails of the park, sharing knowledge of animal behavior, plant species, and local ecosystems.
In addition to spotting the "big cats," guests may also encounter smaller but equally fascinating creatures such as owls, eagles, and an array of insects and reptiles. Each safari promises something new, as the wilderness is ever-changing.
2. Guided Nature Walks: A Close Encounter with the Ecosystem
For those who prefer a slower pace and a more intimate connection with nature, guided nature walks are the perfect activity. These walks, often organized by the resort, allow guests to explore the nearby surroundings of the park at their own pace. Trained guides accompany guests, pointing out the subtle signs of wildlife that often go unnoticed, like animal tracks, bird calls, or particular plant species with medicinal properties.
Walking through Pench's dense forests, rich in Sal, Teak, and bamboo, offers a chance to appreciate the finer details of the park’s ecosystem. It’s not uncommon to stumble upon hidden watering holes or observe monkeys swinging playfully from tree to tree. These walks are particularly enjoyable for those interested in botany, ornithology, or even photography, as the slower pace allows for careful observation and picture-perfect moments.
3. Birdwatching: A Paradise for Ornithologists
Pench National Park is home to over 210 species of birds, making it a haven for birdwatchers. Some of the most commonly sighted birds include the Indian roller, grey-headed fish eagle, and Malabar pied hornbill. The park’s rivers, lakes, and wetlands attract migratory species, making every season unique in its avian offerings.
Luxury resorts often organize special birdwatching tours that focus solely on avian life. Guests can explore Khokha Lake or other nearby water bodies, where birds gather in large numbers, creating a perfect opportunity for bird photography. The early morning or late evening times offer the best sightings, when the birds are most active. Equipped with high-quality binoculars, a birdwatching guide helps guests identify species, offering insights into their habits, migration patterns, and calls.
4. Wellness and Spa Treatments: Rejuvenation in Nature’s Lap
After a day spent exploring the rugged wilderness, there’s nothing better than returning to the comfort of a resort’s wellness center. Many luxury resorts in Pench National Park offer state-of-the-art spa facilities where guests can indulge in rejuvenating treatments. Inspired by traditional Indian Ayurvedic practices, these therapies use natural ingredients like herbs, oils, and spices to relax both the body and mind.
Spa treatments range from full-body massages to specialized therapies aimed at relieving stress, promoting relaxation, and enhancing overall well-being. Some resorts also offer yoga and meditation sessions amidst the tranquil forest backdrop, allowing guests to practice mindfulness and reconnect with their inner selves. These wellness experiences complement the rugged adventure of the jungle, providing a holistic retreat for those seeking physical, mental, and spiritual rejuvenation.
