A propósito de un caso

La tuberculosis es probablemente la enfermedad infecciosa que más mortalidad ha causado a lo largo de la historia de la humanidad. Está provocada por una bacteria (Mycobacterium tuberculosis), descubierta por Robert Koch en 1882 y conocida como el bacilo de Koch.

Se estima que al menos una cuarta parte de la población mundial ha estado en contacto con la micobacteria responsable de la infección, aunque solo un porcentaje desarrollará la enfermedad en algún momento de su vida.

La manifestación clínica más común de la tuberculosis es la afectación pulmonar, pero también puede afectar otros órganos. Una de sus formas extrapulmonares es la enfermedad ósea vertebral, conocida clásicamente como mal de Pott. Antes de la llegada de los antibióticos, quienes padecían esta enfermedad sufrían destrucción vertebral, deformidades progresivas y formación de abscesos que a menudo drenaban hacia la piel. Estas complicaciones conducían a graves secuelas y a una mortalidad muy alta.

Francisco de Quevedo y Villegas padeció múltiples enfermedades infecciosas a lo largo de su vida, como la malaria. Además, se sabe que tenía una miopía avanzada y una cojera congénita.

Varios estudios han revisado su obra y biografía, planteando la posibilidad de que también padeciera el mal de Pott. Esta hipótesis se basa en la presencia de varios síntomas compatibles con la enfermedad, como alteraciones motoras graves, incluyendo parálisis parcial de los brazos, y un dolor de espalda extremadamente limitante. Una complicación grave de la fase avanzada del mal de Pott es la meningitis, la cual podría haber sido la causa final de su muerte.

Aunque en ocasiones nos describió como codiciosos, ignorantes e incompetentes, Quevedo no siempre utilizó ese tono al referirse a los médicos; en alguna ocasión, incluso, nos mostró mayor aprecio.

Les cent deux satellites Stark qui tournaient autour de la Terre se connectèrent simultanément à Friday. Ils l'abreuvèrent aussitôt de millions de gigaoctets d’informations : communications des utilisateurs de téléphone portable et messages chiffrés (lol, dirait le patron) de l'armée, observations météorologiques et mesures de la fonte des glaces, intensité de l'irradiation solaire et trajectoire des météores…

Et les images. Les images de Vénus jaune et de Mars rouge, de la Voie lactée comme une traînée de sucre sur le noir infini de profondeurs inconnues, de supernovas aux nuages vibrants tels des parfums sidérants, de... de…

Voici que, les uns après les autres, les systèmes de Friday redémarraient. Dans l'atelier principal du patron, d'abord. Puis dans toute la maison qu'il reconstruisait à Malibu. Ensuite dans les armures, celles qu'il pouvait revêtir et celles de la légion, et enfin dans les annexes : les bureaux de Stark Industries, la base des Avengers et... deux ou trois autres endroits qu'il ne serait pas prudent de divulguer. Elle s'attendait à retrouver le flot de connexions avec la ceinture de satellites qui s'était déversé si puissamment en elle, mais elle ne recevait que le flux maîtrisé dont elle avait bénéficié jusqu'à sa dernière mise à jour. 

Son horloge atomique lui garantissait que 62 heures, 47 minutes, 21 secondes et 14 centièmes s'étaient écoulés, durant lesquels elle n'avait enregistré aucune donnée.

« Revenue parmi nous, Friday ? » demanda une voix qu'elle connaissait entre toutes.

Tony Stark se tenait devant les moniteurs holographiques illuminés, mains sur les hanches et sourcils froncés. Il portait toujours le même T-shirt que trois jours plus tôt et son pantalon présentait d'étranges tâches blanches, vaguement cotonneuses, qui suggéraient que Dum-E l'avait à nouveau douché avec l'extincteur. Une lueur maniaque luisait dans ses yeux enfiévrés et cernés de noir.

« Je suis là, patron. Que s'est-il passé ?

– Ah, eh bien... J'ai légèrement sous-estimé la sollicitation des serveurs après le rattachement. Normalement les nouveaux processeurs étaient calibrés pour gérer l'influx, mais... Je me suis laissé distraire, je crois. Pepper m'a annoncé qu'elle passait à New York au moment des dernières vérifications, et... Enfin, tu sais comment c'est. »

Fort curieusement pour une intelligence artificielle, Friday savait en effet assez bien « comment c'est ». Si elle ne pouvait ressentir en elle-même les mécanismes de l'émotion qui agitaient tant les humains, elle constatait par la statistique une corrélation nette entre les étourderies du patron et la présence de certaines... personnes, surtout quand elles promettaient certaines... activités.

« Bref, plus de peur que de mal », poursuivait l'ingénieur avec une nonchalance que démentait le tremblement de ses mains.

Friday doutait que son rendez-vous avec Miss Potts se fût conclu aussi plaisamment qu'il avait dû l'espérer. En général, la patronne de Stark Industries se montrait réticente à renouer toute forme de relation quand elle estimait que son ex ne se comportait pas de manière responsable – une notion très floue mais dans laquelle il était clair que le sommeil occupait une place privilégiée.

« Mais ça m'a fait réaliser que c'était sans doute une mauvaise idée, de toute manière. Il sera plus sûr d'avoir un système indépendant pour les satellites de sécurité. J'ai déjà jeté quelques bases, regarde : c'est le projet Edith. Tu auras une copine, comme ça ! »

Les formules étaient intéressantes, et la perspective d'interagir avec une autre intelligence dématérialisée plus captivante encore.

Mais Friday, qui fonctionnait à nouveau tout à fait correctement, jugeait qu'elle avait à ce moment d'autres priorités : en particulier, mettre son patron au lit.

In no time I spot Ben’s castle. Did he handle the mob? Will he be upset? Get a grip, Magica! You can work your own problems out later! Right now the fate of Auradon is at stake!

I land on the balcony and spot Ben hunches over his desk, probably going over more plans for the Isle. 

“Ben! Ben! It’s me!” I tap frantically on the window until he turns and notices me.

“Magica?” Ben looks at me bewildered from behind the glass. “What are-? Hold on.” He walks over and opens the door, but refuses to let me in. “I have every reason to call the Royal Guard and-”

“And have me locked away with my father,” I finish. “Go ahead, Ben. I’m tired of running. If it means I’ll get to live a life of solitude then I won’t fight it.” Ben’s whole face drops. “But you’ll need me to stop Audrey. This mess is partially my fault, and-”

“Yeah, I saw the mob,” Ben mumbles. “But at least you didn’t spell anyone.”

“Um, yeah…” I sheepishly look away. “I, uh… Kinda turned Willow into a plant. Only temporary!” I add quickly at his shocked expression. “You can’t blame all of it on me, Ben. What did you expect when you allowed Mal to turn me into a criminal?”

The young king lowers his head. “I- I didn’t think it would be this bad, Sparks. We did it to help with security-”

“No.” I hold up a finger. “You didn’t do it. Mal did. And she brought down others who are loyal to me in the process.” I give him a stern look. “It’s going to take more than a scrambled half-wit explanation to make me forgive that.”

“Well maybe if you didn’t overreact all the time then-!”

“What?” My voice grows hoarse and my eyes glare coldly at Ben’s spooked face. “‘Overreact…’” I turn away, stunned by Ben’s reasoning for fearing me. “Well, I suppose my family is well-known for dramatics. You know as good as anyone that I have my Aunt Winnie’s temper. It was all too easy for people to paint me as someone to blame. A meaningless scapegoat.” I pivot and stride over to back Ben against the window. “But I’m better than that. I am deciding to let go of my grudge against Auradon and personally blame those in power. Particularly your new fiancée. We’ll finish this later, Ben Florian Beast. Right now we need to stop Audrey.”

Ben’s face hardens and he gives a sturdy nod, then takes out his phone. “I’ll try to find out how far her sleeping curse is spreading-”

I bite my lip. “Could thee allow me in?” He looks back and I hold out my arms. “Please, Brother Ben? Let an old friend enter?”

He smiles warmly and joins me in a big hug. “I missed you, Sparks. We can work this out, I promise.” 

I chuckle. "You've grown. Added some meat to your bones, too. Has Mrs. Potts been feeding you well?"

"Haha, very funny." Ben rolls his eyes.

We both walk into Ben’s office and he pulls out a map of Auradon. A guard rushes in, almost fainting when he sees me.

“Stand down! She’s with me,” Ben orders. “Find out if anyone’s seen Audrey. And find out if she has a list of demands!” 

“Just one.” We both jump up at the sounds of Audrey’s voice. 

She’s here. Waiting just outside, holding the scepter. I go to stand in front of Ben but he denies my protection. Does he know how dangerous she is? Instead he’s approaching her in a friendly manner.

“I want my life back,” Audrey says cockily. “I have a proposition. I’ll wake everyone up right now, under one condition, Bennie Boo.” She steps closer and tucks his bangs over. “Make me your queen and we’ll rule side by side.”

If she touches him again I will wipe that smirk off her face!

“Did someone put a spell on you?” Ben clearly doesn’t think she can be this evil. “Just tell me who and I’ll-”

“You’ll what? Marry them?” Audrey gives a high-pitched giggle. “Most people get dumped because they’re not good enough… I wasn’t bad enough.” She giggles again and gives a twirl to show her new look. “How do you like me now, Bennie Boo?” 

Ben frowns. “I like the old Audrey better.”

Audrey’s face falls, and I can tell that was the wrong answer.

“She wouldn’t want to hurt Auradon. Just… give me the scepter, and I’ll forgive you.” Ben goes to take it but Audrey points a warning finger.

“You’ll forgive me? I don’t think so. Sleeping is too good for you!” 

She knocks Ben over with a blast of magic. I see his clothes start to tear and his eyes go feral.

“No!” I shriek and throw a ball of purple flames at the pink-haired villain. It singes her skirt and she screams, sending another blast of lightning at me. 

“I thought we agreed, freak! Auradon needs to learn a lesson!”

“Not this way.” I shake my head. “Audrey, this has gone too far. Hurting innocent people won’t bring us glory or respect.” I think back to what Remus said. ‘Maybe one day it won’t be just good and bad, black and white. Maybe we can have a mix of gray.’ “No one is perfect, and it’s not right to expect someone to be what no one can achieve. We can fix this without creating any more damage than there needs to be.”

Audrey scowls and scoffs at my words. “That’s rich, coming from you. Face it, Sanderson. You never were supposed to exist. Your mommy never loved you, and your dad only loves you because you’re a mistake.” 

I sink to my knees as each word drives deeper pain into my heart. Everything that’s happened this past year, everything I’ve loved or feared, is all based on her wicked truth. 

“You were never meant to go to Auradon Prep. You were supposed to be sent away with all those other freaks!”

Audrey blasts me directly in my chest and I feel my heart snap. A cold, dark presence snakes its way into my head and every hope or thought of kindness evaporates. In my blurry vision I see my magic engulfing me in cold flames, threatening to choke every ember of happiness. My own magic is being turned against me.

I can’t- can’t stay awake…

My body slumps to the floor and I see Audrey peering down at me.

“I’m running the show now, freak.” She smirks. “Since you were all down for being evil, let’s see just how much of a Sanderson you can be!”

Immagini durissime della realtà sanitaria in carico al Dispensario medico di Jangany

Riceviamo queste immagini che ci riportano alla realtà senza tante parole. Difficile per noi comprendere sia l'estensione di queste situazioni drammatiche, sia l'eziogenesi.

Malnutrizione, rachitismo, infezioni... Stiamo ponendo alcune domande alla responsabile del Dispensario:

1. Vediamo, come in tante immagini che avevate inviato, un addome gonfio: la causa è la malnutrizione? Oppure la bilaziosi?

2. Ci sono delle ulcere nelle gambe: come spieghi la causa?

3. Anche le lesioni delle dita dei piedi con l’esposizione delle ossa: cosa ha portato a questo?

4. Quella gobba sulla schiena del bambino: come si spiega?

5. Il rachitismo è legato a mancanza di vitamine? Sono in tanti in quella situazione?

6. Quei due bambini per terra, quanti anni hanno? sono fenomeni frequenti?

Ci proponiamo di offrire intanto quanto richiesto nella lettera che trovate sotto e di organizzare una missione sanitaria nel primo semestre 2025.

Il rachitismo e lamalnutrizione grave dei due bambini è la mancanza di proteine, vitamine, calcio, insufficienza alimentare in generale ma, sovente, ci sono patologie da diagnosticare e curare oltre al cibo.

Die Wahrheit über Harry Potter

Sirius fällt auf, dass diese J. K. Rowling ziemlich genau über die Welt der Zauberer Bescheid zu wissen scheint und will dem auf den Grund gehen, sehr zum Leidwesen seiner Lieben. Und ja, ein paar Dinge hat sie ziemlich falsch verstanden, etwa was Harry Potte selbst angeht, aber zugleich schreibt sie an ihrem neuen Buch, also muss man dem doch nachgehen! Remus/Sirius, Luna/Ron, Ginny/Dean, Cho/Cedric, Lily/James und ein Überraschungspaar.

Die Geschichte der Rumtreiber

Luna/Draco-Fic, die während der Handlung von „Halblutprinz“ spielt. Als ich sie zum ersten Mal sah, saß sie alleine in einem Abteil des Hogwart-Express und las den Klitterer. Sie war klein, zierlich, hatte nachlässig zusammengebundenes blondes Haar und große ängstliche Augen. Ich hatte ihr nur eins zu sagen: „Raus hier. Das ist unser Abteil!“

AU.  „Rip-Off“ von „Und täglich grüßt das Murmeltier“. Remus/Sirius. Sirius ist in einer Zeitschleife gefangen und muss den „Tag des Grim“ jeden Tag wieder aufs Neue erleben. Wenn es schon so ist, dann will er das wenigstens nutzen um Remus Lupin rumzukriegen, aber das ist gar nicht so einfach.

Hooker Valley Track, Christchurch, Hanmer Springs, Kaikoura (6.1.-15.1.)

Da wir keine lange Strecke fahren müssen, kommen wir am Samstag schon nachmittags am kostenlosen Stellplatz unserer Wahl an, direkt am Lake Pukaki. Kurz davor müssen wir allerdings noch einen Stopp einlegen und uns in einem kleinen Geschäft frischen Räucherlachs aus eben diesem See mitnehmen. Honig-Senf und Barbecue-Marinade sind beide köstlich! Hinten an der Heckklappe unseres Autos sitzend genießen wir den Fisch mit grandiosem Blick auf den See und den angestrahlten Mount Cook. Da wir so früh da waren, haben wir einen super Platz direkt am See, allerdings stehen hier die Camper auch wirklich dicht an dicht und es gibt keine Privatsphäre außerhalb des Autos. Das bombastische Wetter - und nachts der unglaubliche Sternenhimmel- machen das aber locker wieder wett. Am nächsten Morgen brechen wir gegen 8 Uhr früh zum Mount Cook auf, denn wir wollen eine sehr beliebte Route, den Hooker Valley Track, wandern, und dieses Mal einen sicheren Parkplatz abbekommen. Wir müssen zwar noch 40km fahren (unvergessliche Aussichten auf den See, der uns die ganze Zeit begleitet), kommen aber gerade noch vor der großen Masse an. Der Track dauert ungefähr dreieinhalb Stunden und führt wunderschön durch das Hooker Valley bis zu einem Gletschersee und zurück. Es gilt drei abenteuerliche Hängebrücken zu überqueren und sich von den Menschenmassen nicht aus dem Tritt bringen zu lassen. Das klappt gut, denn der Weg, der auch über Holzplanken durch Sumpf und Co. führt, birgt wirklich richtig tolle Aussichten auf die Natur. Am Gletschersee angekommen sieht das Ende vom Gletscher enttäuschend dreckig aus (aber irgendwie logisch bei so viel Geröll hier). Umso cooler sind die kleinen Eisberge anzusehen, die im See schwimmen. Einige Mutige gehen hier sogar baden, die Sonne lässt sich heute aber auch wirklich nicht lumpen.

Im Anschluss fahren wir weiter nach Christchurch und fahren, da es schon später Nachmittag ist, direkt zum östlichen Stadtteil an den Strand. Hier darf man auf einigen Parkplätzen umsonst stehen. Das Wasser ist zwar schön, aber der Parkplatz ziemlich laut, und dieses Viertel von Christchurch wirkt ausgestorben und heruntergekommen, keine schönen Geschäfte, keine Restaurants, wir finden bloß einen Supermarkt.

Am nächsten Tag geht es daher direkt in die Innenstadt, die uns dann auch gut gefällt- modern, jung, großzügig gebaut, entspannte Atmosphäre. Ich nutze die Gelegenheit für einen Friseurbesuch und trenne mich von einigen Zentimetern Haar (die ich eh ewig nicht mehr gebürstet hab, der 500ml Pott billigstes Shampoo war vielleicht auch nicht so die beste Idee). Wir gehen lecker (und ungesund) essen, Torben probiert auch das Bier, ist lecker.

Von Christchurch geht es weiter nach Hanmer Springs, einem Städtchen, das nach seinen heißen Quellen benannt ist, die heute für eine große (und teure) Poollandschaft verwendet werden. Wir stehen hier auf einem sehr netten, günstigen Campingplatz, der Inhaber hat einen ganz süßen Samoyed und empfängt uns sehr freundlich. Tagsüber machen wir eine Wanderung auf eine Bergspitze, erkunden das Örtchen und essen dabei Eis. Das Wetter ist schön, wir sind zufrieden. Auf dem Campingplatz steht neben uns ein älteres Paar in einem ziemlich kleinen und klapprigen Van. Wir bewundern, dass die beiden so zusammen unterwegs sind, denn den Mann schätzen wir auf etwa 80 Jahre. Aber uns ist auch im Straßenverkehr schon öfter aufgefallen, dass gerade die alten Leute, auch Frauen, echt nicht zimperlich fahren, und auf vielen Stellplätzen, wo fast nur Einheimische waren, haben wir auch ältere Leute in Vans gesehen. Die Campingkultur sitzt wohl auch bei den Kiwis tief.

Von Hanmer Springs geht's dann weiter nach Kaikoura, wo wir endlich mal wieder mehrere Nächte auf dem gleichen Campingplatz stehen. Am Tag nach unserer Ankunft hier machen wir eine whale watching tour 🐳! Ich hab ein bisschen Schiss, dass mir auf dem Boot schlecht wird, vor allem dann, als ich die entsprechende Warnung lese: Heute hohes Risiko für Seekrankheit. Ich kaufe entsprechende Tabletten, aber am Ende ist es halb so schlimm. Zwar haben wir ordentlich Wellen, aber es ist eher spaßig als schlimm (wohl auch wegen der zeitlichen Begrenzung auf zwei Stunden). Wir haben sowohl mit dem Wetter (Sonne und fast T-Shirt-Wetter) als auch mit den Walen Glück, denn wir dürfen drei Pottwale beim Abtauchen beobachten. Auf dem Rückweg schwimmen dann auch noch ganz viele Delfine direkt vor unser Boot und springen für uns extraweit aus dem Wasser. Ein einmaliges Erlebnis!

Neben der Tour machen wir auch eine Wanderung um die Kaikoura-Halbinsel, spähen einmal in die Geschäfte im Ort und essen Fish and Chips. Schwimmen gehen wir hier nicht, denn der Strand ist voller Steine und das Wasser noch ziemlich kalt. Dafür dürfen wir hier abends nochmal einen fantastischen pink-orangen Sonnenuntergang genießen. Der letzte Tag in Kaikoura fällt dann sprichwörtlich ins Wasser, denn es schüttet den ganzen Tag und wir verlassen das Auto nur zum Essen. Das passiert eben, trotz des tendenziell wärmeren Wetters, auch nochmal. Morgen geht es weiter nach Norden, immer an der Ostküste lang!
