Se trata de la primera iglesia en la que los fieles son bautizados con cerveza y sus misas se celebran en bares. Es un culto sudafricano, que recibe el nombre de iglesia de Gabola, que intentaba dar un espacio de oración a todos los feligreses expulsados de otras congregaciones por su gusto por la bebida.

Su nombre lo tomaron de ese placer, pues Gabola significa “beber” en Tswana, uno de los idiomas oficiales de Sudáfrica.

El líder de la congregación, Tsietsi Makiti, ha llamado la atención del mundo por sus inusuales ritos y ha manifestado que en sus misas “bebemos para la liberación”. “Estamos bebiendo para que el Espíritu Santo venga a nosotros”, agregó el autoproclamado Papa africano.

Según un artículo publicado en El País de España, los adoradores cantan y bailan himnos en sus ceremonias, las que se realizan en el bar Orange Farm, en Johannesburgo.
