#Repost @honigkuchenmann ・・・ "London calling, yes, I was there, too An' you know what they said? Well, some of it was true!" 🌈Rainbow Pom Pom Sensory Bottle🌈 * 🌟Such a fun activity for young kiddos & perfect for practicing colour recognition, hand-eye coordination, and concentration. 🌟Super easy, fast, and simple to make 🎉. 🌟To make it even more fun have your toddler place the pom poms inside the bottle. If your little one is still mouthing everything, supervise 100% of the time and discourage your child from doing so. My son Jacob is 13 months and still puts everything in his mouth, so, I supervised him 100% of the time. However, he had such a blast placing the pom poms inside the bottle, which already had water, that he didn't mouth any of them. 🌟Or, make the rainbow sensory bottle and give to your little munchkin to play with, above all be safe!!! We know our kids and know what we should, or, shouldn't let them do. My rule is: safety 1st! 😊. 🌟Read below for more details ⬇️⬇️⬇️. * 🌈What you need: 🌟Voss bottle, or, any clear bottle with smooth surface, the pom poms should fit through any water bottle opening. I used a Voss bottle as I already had one at home. 🌟Pom poms in assorted colours and sizes. 🌟Water. * 🌈How to: 🌟Fill the bottle 3/4 with water. 🌟Place pom poms inside. I used between 20-30 pom poms, all different colours and sizes. You can use more, or, less depending on preference. 🌟Fill the bottle all the way with water. 🎉That's it!! Hope your & your kiddos have a blast!! I know mine did😁😁😁. * #parenting#toddlerparenting#toddler#toddlemom#toddlerfun#sensorybottles#funwithsensorybottles#kidsactivities#kidsactivitiesathome#funwithtoddler#craftymommy#rainbowsensorybottle#makingreadingfun#makinglearningeasy#makinglearningsimple#funwithtoddler (at Toronto, Ontario)

Couldn't let Easter pass without an #earlyliteracy posting 😁😁😁. Read below ⬇️⬇️⬇️. * 📚An analysis of research literature indicates specific skills and abilities of children ages birth through 5 years, that predict reading and school success outcomes. 📚Key predictive skills, and abilities include: 📗Listening comprehension, oral language, and vocabulary. 📙Alphabetic knowledge, phonological/ phonemic awareness (the ability to discriminate sounds in words), and spelling. 📘Print concepts skills. * 📚The skills and abilities listed above⬆️ are all developed by children through the practice, encouragement and mentorship of conversation, social and reading skills. And it all starts from birth. * 🌟Thanks for the inspiration @usborne.every.day, found The Big Book of Colours at #indigo 🙌. 🙏Hope everyones having a great Easter weekend!! #thankful#blessedlife * 🌟Source: http://www.readingrockets.org/article/early-literacy-policy-and-practice-preschool-years. * #earlyliteracy#toddler#toddlermom#toddlerfun#toddlerlife#toddlerreading#toddlerreadbooks#smarttoddlers#mommylife#readingwithtoddler#usbornebooks#dkbooks#100firstwords#theusbornebigbookofcolours#makingreadingfun#teadingfromayoungage (at Toronto, Ontario)

We were in Ikea today doing some home spring shopping, and that got me thinking of looking for ways to involve our kids in our daily shopping experiences and promote early literacy 📚🙌. So here is some info I found, read below ⬇️⬇️⬇️ * 📚Shopping your Way with Words. * 🌟Use your weekly shopping trip(s) as an opportunity to help your child develop reading and writing skills. * 🌟This activity can easily be adapted for young children by using pictures of the items you need. * 📚What you'll need: 🌟Paper and pencils. 🌟Newspaper ads. 🌟Supermarket coupons, and/or, pictures of items. * 📚What to do: 🌟As you make out your grocery shopping list, give your child a sheet of paper and read the items to him or her. Show pictures of the items you need to younger kids. Make a visual list by adding pictures from the items you need. 🌟If your child asks for spelling help, write the words correctly for him or her to copy or spell the words aloud as your child writes them. 🌟Ask your child to look through the newspaper ads to find the prices of as many items as possible. 🌟Your child can write these prices on the list and then look through your coupons to select the ones you can use. 🌟Take your child to the supermarket and ask him or her to read each item to you as you shop. * 🌟This can easily be adapted for young children, by cutting pictures out of what you need to buy(making a visual shopping list), and showing him/her at the store, getting him/her to reach out to grab the item on your list, with a little help of course. * 🌟Source: http://www.readingrockets.org/article/25-activities-reading-and-writing-fun * #toddler#toddlermom#parentinglife#kidsandliteracy#makingreadingfun#toddlerandlitetacy#toddlereverydayliteracyactivities#kidsandliteracyactivities#kidseverydayreadingactivities#makingreadingeasy#makingreadingsimple

🐰Here's a step-by-step visual on how to fold your piece of paper to make a bunny, or, chick bookmark. It's the same for both & super easy!!! 🐥🎉. 🌟Please note that for the step-by-step visual I used a piece of paper that's white on the one side, and pink on the other, just to show the folding steps. For the actual bookmarks I used regular construction paper, so it's the same colour all around. * 🐥What you need: 🌟Colour paper (I used construction paper). 🌟Scissors. 🌟Glue stick. 🌟Regular hole punch. 🌟Goggly eyes. 🌟Black fine tip pen/marker. My go to pen for crafts is the Pigma Micron water proof and fade proof pen. But, a fine tip permanent pen/marker would also work. 🌟I got everything at #michaelsartsandcrafts, remember to use their 40% off coupon which can be found on their website, or, pull it up on your phone. Its only good for one item per transaction thou. * * 🐰How to: 🌟Cut your colour paper into a square, 9.8cm(each side) makes the perfect size square for the bookmarks. 🌟Follow the visuals to fold your square piece of paper into a bookmark. Will be posting a video later on. 🌟Once you have your bookmark, just need to turn it into a bunny, or, chick. 🌟For a bunny bookmark, just need to cut bunny ears, nose and teeth out of the construction paper. I'll be posting a template later on tonight. Then, glue on the goggly eyes & that's it! 🐥To make the chick, use scissors to round the bookmark into a chick shape. I made the chick cheeks with the hole punch, cut a tiny triangle for a nose and small hearts for chick feet, cut everything out of the construction paper. Then, just drew eyes with the black pen. 🐥🐰That's it!! It's super easy and so cute!! 🌟It's a great Easter activity for kids, or, for younger kids a really cool and unique Easter basket/bag filler. Jacob got so exited when he saw them, can't wait to place them in his books and teach him what they're for. It'll make reading time even more fun!! * #kidscrafts#eastekidscrafts#easterbookmarks#toddlerreading#craftymommy#bunnyeasterbookmark#chickeasterbookmark#easteractivitiesforkids#funeasteractivitiesforkids#makingreadingfun#toddlercutebookmarks#kidsbookmarks#origamibookmark (at Toronto, Ontario)

📚What are your childs favourite books? Those you find reading to him/her over and over. 📙These are a few of Jacobs, I think we read them about 5 times a day. He just grabs them as they're on a shelve close to the ground. * 📚Reading with your child helps with vocabulary development, narrative skills, letter recognition and phonological awareness. * 🌟Tips: 📚Have fun and be silly. 📚Sit face to face. 📚Point and talk about what's happening in the picture. 📚Let your child control the book. 📚Remember babies/toddlers have a short attention span. 📓📓📓📓📓📓📓📓📓📓📓📓📓📓📓📓📓📓📓📓📓📓📓📓📓📓📓📓 #lifewithtoddler #funwithtoddler ##colourrice##toddleractivities#toddleractivitiesathome#toddlerlif#toddlerfun##mommylif#toddlerdevelopment#toddleractivities#toddlerslearning#toddlerlife#readingisfun#toddlerfunlearning#readingforlittleones#readingfromayoungage#earlyliteracy#earlyliteracymatters#earlyreders#toddlerreading#toddlerandbooks#makingreadingfun#fivelittlemonkeya#peterrabbit#roarroar#polarbearpolarbearwhatdoyouhear#thatsnotmymonkey

Early Literacy
This month I’ve been thinking a lot about toddlers and literacy as my son is almost a year old, he is loving books and started to say his first words. So, I decided to do some serious research.
Accoding to research, what is called the “home literacy environment” has been identified as crucial for toddlers and preschool children in their literacy and language development. The first 3 years of a childs’ life being the most important in developing early literacy and language skills.
In toddlerhood early exposure to books and literacy related activities such as storytelling, and singing songs is greatly beneficial for vocabulary development.
TIPS TO HELP YOUR CHILD DEVELOP GOOD LANGUAGE AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
·         Talk to your child when you’re playing together.
·         Have fun with nursery rhymes and songs, especially those with actions.
·         Encourage your child to listen to different sounds, such as cars and animals. This will help your child listening skills.
·         Gain your childs’ attention when you want to talk.
·         Increase vocabulary by giving choices, e.g. “Do you want juice or milk?”
·         Talk about things as they happen, e.g when you’re both unpacking he shopping.
·         Listen carefully and give your child time to finish talking. Take turns to speak
·         Always respond in some way when your child says something.
·         Help you child  to use more words by adding to what they’ve said, e.g. i they say “ball” you might say, “Yes, a red ball.”
·         If your child says something incorrectly, say it back the right way, e.g. “Goggy bited it .” “Yes, the dog bit it, didn’t he?”
·         Try and have special time with your child each day to play with toys and pictures.
·         Limit TV time. Try to watch TV together so you can talk about what happens.
