How to make a homemade pasta
"# Introduction
Pasta is one of the most beloved dishes around the world. It's easy to make, it's delicious and it's incredibly versatile. Whether you're looking for a simple weeknight dinner or an impressive meal to serve for a special occasion, homemade pasta is the perfect option. With just a few simple ingredients and a bit of time, you can create a delicious and unique meal that everyone will love. In this blog, we'll walk through the basics of how to make homemade pasta and share some of our favorite recipes.
What You'll Need
Making homemade pasta is easier than you might think, but there are a few tools and ingredients you'll need to get started.
Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 eggs
2 tablespoons olive oil
Pinch of salt
Tools
Mixing bowl
Rolling pin
Cutting board
Knife
Pasta machine (optional)
Step by Step Guide
Making your own homemade pasta is easy and fun. Here's a step-by-step guide to making it at home.
Step 1: Make the Dough In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, eggs, olive oil, and salt. Mix together until a dough forms. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until it's smooth and elastic. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and let it rest for about 30 minutes.
Step 2: Roll Out the Dough Lightly flour a cutting board and rolling pin. Divide the dough into 4-5 pieces. Roll out each piece of dough until it's about 1/8-inch thick.
Step 3: Cut the Dough Cut the dough into strips that are about 1/2-inch wide. If desired, you can also use a pasta machine to roll and cut the dough.
Step 4: Cook the Pasta Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook for about 4 minutes, or until al dente. Drain the pasta and serve with your favorite sauce.
Recipes
Now that you know how to make the dough, you can start experimenting with different flavors and shapes. Here are a few of our favorite recipes to get you started.
Lemon Thyme Fettuccine For a light and refreshing pasta dish, try this lemony fettuccine.
Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 eggs
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 teaspoons lemon zest
1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves
Pinch of salt
Directions: Follow the steps for making the dough outlined above, adding the lemon zest and thyme leaves to the flour mixture. Roll out and cut the dough into fettuccine noodles. Cook in boiling salted water for 4 minutes, or until al dente. Serve with a light lemon cream sauce.
Spinach Basil Ravioli For a more adventurous pasta dish, try this spinach and basil filled ravioli.
Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 eggs
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 cup frozen spinach, thawed and drained
2 tablespoons fresh basil, chopped
Pinch of salt
Directions: Follow the steps for making the dough outlined above. Roll out the dough into a thin sheet and cut into 2-inch circles. Place about 1 teaspoon of the spinach and basil mixture in the center of each circle. Wet the edges of the circles with water and fold in half. Press the edges together with a fork to seal. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and add the ravioli. Cook for about 4 minutes, or until al dente. Serve with your favorite sauce.
Conclusion
Making homemade pasta is a great way to impress your friends and family. With just a few simple ingredients and some basic kitchen tools, you can create delicious and unique dishes that everyone will love. We hope this blog has inspired you to give homemade pasta a try. Bon appétit!"

I didn't get asked to dance even once at our parish's Halloween dance last night but I did get a 14 year-old girl tell me that she loved my costume so much that she wanted my permission to use it in a movie that she will make someday. And then she asked for a picture with me because she wanted a copy for reference. And let me tell you, having a teen girl think you are the bees knees really is the best
#i spent like two hours doing my makeup and fixing up my hair and dress#i thought i looked quite pretty#but all we can do is have a cry and soldier on I suppose#I will build my castles in the air#and I will bring the friends the Lord has blessed me with after so many years#and i will make them pasta from scratch#and tea from my cottage-shaped teapot

So... dinner was nice. We enjoyed the experience. But Wax had a carbonara dish, which he has been learning to make from scratch (pasta included) with Uncles Wax and Max. He's been learning how to make it because it is his favourite dish.
Yeah - it was quite disappointing tonight, and we asked him how it was and he said "a bit bland" (which is DAMNING from a kid who usually finds nice things to say about everything - complete opposite of Max). But he was dead on (we all tried it). Needed both salt and pepper, and some more parmesan for the sharpness.
Anyway, Hubs went up to pay and the hostess (owner) asked him how everything was, and he asked her if she wanted brutal honesty.
(Those of you who know Hubs, he is a sarcastic MF and can be very cutting with his tongue - Max gets it from him in SPADES).
Anyway, she said yes, and then Hubs said that while the entree was delicious, and three of the mains were equally great, the pasta was really disappointing and then he said "one of my sons can cook a better carbonara then that". He then went on to say it was edible, and not bad enough to send back. Just disappointing.
Then we find out it's a new chef.
But yep, Wax had an interesting night in that he learnt that he can cook a meal better than a professional chef (with help from Uncle Max and Wax).

Half of my somewhat decent cooking skills have been attained by going "oh, well duh" and here's one of those moments from today's lunch that has proven extremely helpful when I want to make something appetizing without going all-out:
You can just doctor storebought pasta sauce to make it taste richer. Most of the stuff you add will already be in the sauce, but it still helps make it more to your liking.
Stuff I usually add, if I've got it on hand (you can do any combination of these or other spices, for real, just add whatever!)
-Butter. Man, it's a magical make-the-sauce-smoother thing.
-Sprinkle of onion powder and oregano
-Garlic. I like to melt a pad of butter down in the saucepan with a bit of minced garlic (the stuff that comes in a jar, but you can use any type), then I'll add the storebought sauce and the other dry spices.
-Here are the big two: crushed red pepper flakes and chili powder. A little kick makes any red sauce better imo, so shake a good amount of both in.
-Top with cheese and, if you can, some fresh herbs! Genovese basil is to die for.
That's it! Experiment! Taste as you go! Don't measure, just toss stuff in gradually until it tastes hella good and then use similar amounts next time. Go forth and impress your comrades with your cooking witchcraft, and don't feel bad if it takes a couple of tries to find what works.
#cooking#pasta sauce#pasta#life skills#cooking hacks#adhd hacks#more like “cooking hey no shit” but it's good to share this stuff! I genuinely did not register this as an option for so long#I avoided making my own sauce from scratch for forever because I didn't know where to begin#and now I avoid it because I can add some razzle-dazzle to the storebought stuff and get a pretty good result with like 5 less steps#not to mention less groceries#i do infinitely love 100% homemade pasta#but that's not always feasible so this is a wonderful compromise imo

In a turn of shocking events absolutely stunning no one more than myself, I might actually enjoy cooking and not only that, be good at it
#it’s like a switch just flipped or something it’s crazy#cooking genuinely used to be in my top 10 most hated activities#but these past couple days I’ve been loving it?#I wonder if the secret is that I’m ACTUALLY cooking#as in like making things from scratch and not relying on premade frozen and stovetop meals#like on Saturday I made a ran of ribs#(made bbq sauce from scratch and everything!)#and then shredded the meat for tacos#they were delicious! and I loved the process of it!#they were so yummy I brought the leftovers to work for lunch the next day!!!!#I’ve *never* done that before#last night I made pasta#and while the pasta was premade (I don’t think I’ll ever reach a point where I’m making pasta from scratch regularly lol)#(I would like to give a shot eventually though)#I made the sauce myself and actually grated fresh Parmesan cheese instead of using the powdered shit#and it was so yummy!!!!#today a friend is coming over and I’m gonna make her fried rice with some of the leftover rib meat#I woke up this morning and first thing made French toast and bacon#not frozen French toast like I actually turned the stove on#tomorrow night I am planning on making Turkey meatloaf with glazed carrots and some peas#what is HAPPENING#this used to be HELL for me and now I’m enjoying it#and food tastes???? good????#this is insane who was gonna tell me food could taste good??????#I used to hate food and only ate when I needed to#is this what cooking from scratch does???? it makes it taste good?????#mannnnnnn#but anyways yes I’m loving it I’m loving the process and it’s tasting good#I haven’t had a horrible accident where something tastes awful yet#(I expect it will happen eventually haha but so far!!!)

You know that daunting task that you’ve put off for years that you think is gonna suck and take hours to do but ends up taking 10 minutes?
Yea I WISH it were like that, I just finished my daunting task and it was just as tedious and annoying as I thought it would be… if not worse. (Cause I don’t have the right cleaning supplies)
#note to self and everyone. NEVER make black garlic pasta from scratch in a pasta machine…#you know how hard those bitches are to clean?#i literally haven’t used it since 2019 because I KNEW how much cleaning it was gonna suck.#but here we are. 3 hours of elbow grease later and I’m finally fucking done and my kitchen is clean too#now I can finally make pasta again but something tells me I won’t touch that machine again for a while…#personal
