I could say something poetic about this piece, but One of these guys is a poet who can’t say the right words at the right time, and the Other would probably stutter his way to a rap battle within three words. So I give you my vision instead and hope you understand the vibes

I'm actually really interested in the difference between the rwby engines and i think that they have a real impact on the character designs for the show, if the show had stayed in poser what design elements do you think would be common?
(this ask sounds like a test question)
god this does sound like a test question lmaoo
well first i do think the high saturated colors would still be common. part of it is because they have better lighting effects, but the colors are noticeably muted. i think they are starting to get back to the pops of color based on v7-v8 but
honestly i have to say v3 is my favorite volume in terms of the overall appearance. obviously maya has let them do incredible things, but there's something about the colors in v3 that got me. like especially Ruby's eyes?? it actually felt like they were silver mirrors reflecting the color of the world
more textured clothing. i know this has been pointed out before, but when they switched to maya, they lost a lot of the painted texture. on the one hand, it does overall look more cohesive whereas before everyone was kinda at different stages of rendering if that makes sense. the lack of textures hasnt necessarily stopped them from using different materials in the outfit designs (obv in v4-v6 yang is in leather while weiss is in a very thin material) but it would be a bit more successful i think. and i think there'd be less belts and zippers and other accessories because the texture would be there to fill the space if that makes sense
tangent: i almost wonder if they stayed with poser (and maybe allowed a bit more time and money) they could've leaned in and done something more painterly rather than cel-shaded. there's this video game i saw recently that has the aesthetic im thinking of but i cant find it or remember the name so sorry for that tangent
this is a really difficult question to answer tho mainly because of how many changes happened all at once. the death of monty definitely affected the character designs, and we have no way of knowing what ideas he may have had for them moving forward. and then there's the shift from school-shenanigans to fantasy-road-trip, which definitely influenced the designs moving forward.
honestly i'd really love anyone with their own thoughts about this to pitch in, because this is a great question and i think it could start an interesting discussion!
