Mist Mixing - the E'liyai Foá
Kissing on the lips in Misterian culture was not only sacred, but also dangerous - an act which was often the culmination of many months, if not years, of frequent proximity. This was, of course, due to Mist - when inhaled directly, at its highest concentration, the effects can be much more significant. For example, being present in a room filled with Kumo's Mist can induce sleep but not instantaneously - but, if he were to breathe directly into your airways, the effect would be comparable to popculture chloroform.* That is, instant loss of consciousness - due to both chemical and magical reasons.
Misterians did develop tolerance to one another's Mist, however it required time. "Mist mixing" in kissing was seen as the ultimate gesture of bonding - combining the breath of one's soul, and its melody, with that of another's. It was known in Misterian as "E'liyai foá" and was performed in romantic and platonic "bonding-for-life" personal rituals.
Taking into oneself the songs of those who influenced one's life the most - and, in religious belief, carrying some of their Mist within oneself til death.
#*popculture chloroform since irl it really doesn't work that way haha. still bad for you but it would take much longer than a few seconds#and you'd feel nauseous first before consciousness started failing#(it was discontuned due to its higher likelihood of causing respiratory failure/cardiac arrhythmias)#anyway#[[headcanon#e'liyai foá#hmmm..#makes Kiri giving Kumo his Mist all the more symbolic#It was a type of foá for them. which is again not to be seen as strictly romantic! it can be performed perfectly platonically in Misterian#in fact close relatives were some of the first people one would do this with due to the mutual built-up tolerance#ensuring families did not poison themselves#Though this ritual was.. limited for Green Mists. too much risk
