Physical Headcanons of Dragon Slayers

Dragon Slayer Magic, and slayer magic in general, changes the User’s physiology in ways other magic types do not– though the element they correspond with does play a major factor in what changes occur, there are some that affect all Dragon Slayers: (Hiro and Tsuki are OC’s who only sort of exist in the same universe, but are both Dragon Slayers)

All Dragon Slayers have enhanced senses, more so than their God and Devil Slayer counterparts– where only one or two of their senses are heightened

Their senses are nearly triple that of a normal humans, and often leads to sensory overloads (Hiro and Erik having stronger hearing than most dragon slayers, Erik due to the nature of his magic- able to hear thoughts and movements of the body- and Hiro due to her magic and a genetic defect- able to hear all the way to Fiore’s farthest border with her mufflers turned up to 10 [10 is the strongest setting on mufflers, allowing the most sound to come through, but still blocking most of it]. Without her mufflers, she can hear all of Ishgar)

Their sense of taste is also increased. To protect their nervous system and body from damage caused by certain flavors, dragon slayers have a thicker, viscous saliva that covers their mouth as a shield, which ends up blocking a lot of flavor

This means they can eat the hottest peppers in Fiore with little fanfare, fire dragons in particular are prone to such snacking habits.

It also means their food will have more spices than most humans can handle because they want to taste it

Their magic forms a thin barrier around their vital organs, though the actual purpose is unknown, it is believed that it’s to guard against internal attacks – poison, illness, etc.

The thickness of the barrier depends on age and element, with Wendy having thicker barriers than someone like Erik (who is immune to toxins), but not as thick as Gajeels.

Natsu and Tsuki’s magic burns through toxins, though Natsu is still vulnerable to a few. Tsuki’s internal temperature, being a White Fire Dragon Slayer, is far too high for normal toxins.

This means that, if Tsuki gets sick, the bacteria has evolved to survive her body temperature long enough to effect her. She will be under quarantine, as some bacteria would die with the body temp lower than they evolved to handle, while others will spread even further.

Dragon Slayers are able to roar, though their age, gender, and element do play a part in what it sounds like:

Tsuki and Natsu’s pitch shifts and changes with their mood, but it’s always extremely loud

Tsuki’s is, by far, the loudest naturally– she’s had plenty practice– and it often causes the ground to shake (There have been a few fallen buildings as a result, she doesn’t roar often)

Tsuki sounds most like a dragon, as she’s the only one who really remembers being taught how to roar like a dragon and not a slayer. Hiro would have been similar if she were old enough to learn it.

Wendy and Hiro are able to twist their vocal cords to create such a high pitch, that it can’t be heard–but still bursts eardrums

Due to their age, they have to force louder volumes, and usually need several minutes to let their voices rest afterwards

Hiro’s is more draconic simply because of the nature of Storm Dragon Slayers.

Laxus’ is loud, and incredibly deep, sounding like ongoing thunder with an echoing higher pitch– and is the second naturally loudest overall

Hiro, due to being a storm dragon slayer, also has a bit of this effect– like rolling thunder and lighting aftershocks. It’s a lot quieter than Laxus’.

Gajeel’s sounds like grating, creaking metal; it’s very deep, and has a medium volume- though it does cause slight vibrations in a thirty meter radius

Sting and Rogue have a medium volume, and no one really knows what their actual roar sounds like

They mimic each other and others, like light reflections and shadows

Erik doesn’t really roar, it’s more of a loud, ominous hissing sound

The sound causes a primal sort of fear in all who hear it, though dragon slayers are more immune than average humans. It does not affect Tsuki, who was raised and trained around many slayers, and Hiro, who lives to spite her body and instincts

Dragon Slayers also purr, much like cats do, though the same factors apply

Tsuki purrs the second most, and does it especially when around those she considers hers

Her’s in specific has a soothing, and calming effect. It tells you everything will be alright, and that she’ll take care of it. It comes with being the oldest and most intune with her instincts

Natus also purrs quite a bit, usually while eating or sleeping

Since he’s still young, it’s more of the effect of a kitten on Tsuki, though non-dragon slayers don’t really notice the difference

Wendy and Hiro purr like it’s second nature, though Wendy only really does so to calm Hiro. Hiro purrs the most out of all of them

They are very noticeably kitten purrs, giving the urge to protect and nurture to the older dragon slayers that hear it

Laxus has deep rumbling purrs, and he doesn’t purr often

So far, Tsuki, Erik, Wendy, Hiro, and his kids are the only ones who have ever heard him purr

Though, it’s more like they feel him purr

Gajeel also has deep purrs, though rather quiet

Again, it’s more of something you feel than hear, his entire body shakes with the force

This is all according to Tsuki and Hiro, though some believe Wendy and Levy have heard them– neither will reveal anything

Sting and Rogue are much like Natsu, though they have more control over it– due to the trauma inflicted by Jiemma

With Tsuki, Laxus, and Erik, they are near constantly purring

They do purr around Hiro as well, its almost infectious

Erik is more similar to a snake than a cat, and his draconic sounds reflect that! So, while he doesn’t exactly purr, he also kind of does.

It sounds more like a quiet, content hissing though, but is described as more of a churr

Purrs are very infectious, if one purrs, they all purr, even if they’re doing so for different reasons

Stick em in a room with Tsuki and/or Hiro purring, and soon they’ll all be doing it without realizing

It’s a form of nonverbal communication for dragons, usually meaning happiness or contentedness

Dragon slayers have sharp claws, though their length depends entirely on the individual slayer

Some keep them filed down as not to accidentally scratch anything, but it does cause a strange, burning-itch in their fingers

The claws grow faster than an average human’s nails

Tsuki doesn’t cut hers beyond a certain point, cutting them down to the same length of the average nail is what causes the itching, almost like declawing a cat, very uncomfortable and not the usual

Natsu and Hiro don’t cut theirs down either, and it’s up to Tsuki to make sure they actually take care of them– though Hiro is generally very good at keeping them short enough to be able to do things, but long enough to defend herself if she can’t access magic

Gajeel also keeps his a certain length, and so does Erik, but Gajeel does it for max Bad Boy Effect and Erik does it because the tips can excrete poison if he wants them too, and if he cuts them too close it gets into his bloodstream and it’s really annoying

Laxus keeps his claws short because long nails make him uncomfortable, and the electricity in his body already causes itchiness. What's a little bit more?

Wendy keeps her short, but not super short, and also files them into more a square shape

Wendy likes to paint all their nails and once she and Hiro use the Puppy Eyes, no one can decline, it’s against the law

All kinds of Slayers have two magical cores, where their magic energy is stored, while other Wizards only have one.

No one knows entirely why, but it is believed that the first Slayers evolved the second core to manage their magic easier, as it is a very volatile magic genre

Dragon Slayers are hypoglycemic, mostly because of the volatile nature of their magic eating up at any sort of energy their body has– including their blood sugars.

Tsuki is the only one who is aware of this, but thinks the others are aware even if they’re not.

They know their body feels weird and they get tired, and that Tsuki makes sure they all eat after every fight and will shove food in their mouth whenever they feel that Weird Discomfort in their bones, but they don’t know why and don’t really care. That’s it.

It’s very annoying to deal with

They suck at taking care of themselves, all in different ways and all for different reasons.

I AM IN LOVE!!

I love games that are like Harvest Moon and Stardew Valley, so I knew at least to some degree I’d like it

BUT WOW— I was not at all expecting it to drive me to play it for hours straight and not feeling bored at all! I know I’ll be enjoying it when it’s holiday break from uni

Some of my favorite things are the customizability of the player character, the designs of NPCs, Doozy, Juniper giving me Haley flashbacks but even better because oh no she does witchcraft AND HAS A VILLAINESS LAUGH??? WIFEE??— but also I love Eiland being an absolute history nerd! Hayden’s sweet, and GOD CALDARUS GODDD My simplest joy is literally checking in on him every morning 😭 I am screaminggg because I’d 100% date and marry and have a cute peaceful life with him

On other notes, I love love love how FoM has the Friday Inn get-togethers and the Saturday Market. It really does help it feel more like a tightly-knit hometown. THE MAGIC AHHHHHHHH. I also strangely do not find the mining/exploration taxing. I legit enjoy it and I think it’s because of Mistria’s story. Because of Eiland, Juniper, and other key NPC’s being involved too and Caldarus’ supportiveness, I feel even more determined to break the seals.

I have so many thoughts, but mainpoint is I love FoM so far and something about the story and setting and world is really drawing me in!

Overthinking Ghost Cole...

I personally would've enjoyed more Cole Angst as a ghost. However, I think we got enough in Possession. We saw him be shocked and sad in the Temple on Haunted Hill. Next we see him deal with reality of the situation and grow to accept it. I think one more episode of being bummed out about not being human would've been nice. Specifically, before that mountain one. He does grow to accept his ghost-ness within the season. It felt a bit rushed to me, but I don't mind it too much. Cole isn't an angsty person. I think he'd adjust quickly, and he did. It would feel weird if he was moping for a while on what happened to him. He moped for a little bit, but was more concerned with the fact he can't help his friends the same way he used to. His arc is growing to accept he is still valuable even though he's a different now.

I think the main issue of ghost Cole is in Skybound. We never see him continue to deal with reality of being a ghost. We don't see him interact with his father, have issues on the film set, not much. We only have cool power up moments and some gags. (Which are great, I can be nice) Why can't Cole get a separate prison cell when they go to jail? Why does vengestone have to now apply to ghosts? Cole is no longer human, he's something else. He's something other. But in Skybound he's treated as a human, but he can go invisible occasionally. He can still eat food. Nothing is lost, he's better off as a ghost. You lose the feeling of sacrifice.

In Possession we see him jump around water (like when Nya uses her powers, when they fortify their base etc) We have lines which highlight his new change. (Borg saying he built the mech out of deepstone)

Now on Ghost Cole Angst. The only opportunity for ghost Cole angst in Skybound would’ve been from the other characters. Cole’s arc was about accepting his changes and coping with his new reality. Then loving himself again. In Skybound there’s nothing to cope with because he finished his arc. Lou or Lloyd are people who weren’t there with Cole much in season 5 and probably would have a lot of feelings about what happened. A side plot that Skybound could’ve had if we wanted to expand on Coles character is an outsider coming to terms with his transformation. It would’ve shown off Cole's growth and give characters with nothing to do something. (That’s why I suggested Lloyd)

This is just a big ask for a season that came out in 2016. As for what we got in canon, I think we’re just lucky he stayed a ghost in Skybound. The season was meant to focus on Jay, a character who got a backseat in previous seasons. I think this is one of the many issues of having a Jay focused season after a more ensemble focused one. All the other characters took a hit. Having more focus on Nya focused plot line outside of her romantic relationships would've been beneficial for her character. A lot of big changes were made to the story and the Ninja didn't get to recover much or still be affected. Lloyd's father died, he was more affected by this in Possession. Maybe Lloyd or someone from his family giving us a speech about Garmadon in the beginning. Hopefully not from Master Wu. We know his shit, he won't have anything new to the table. My mainpoint being Cole isn't the only one that got messed up in Skybound.

In summary, MY FAVES ANGST WAS SIDELINED IN SKYBOUND, SO NOW I'M SAD!

so that’s why I never mentioned the missed potential of ghost Cole in a post about Possession. It’s meant for a post about Skybound.

Imo, her actions (and they were on camera) kind of proved the mainpoint of <think_tank> more than finding a man in a costume would have.

It was after the festival and the confusing conversation I had with my eldest brother Felix , that I had encountered her.

With a hand going through his blonde caramel like troughs of his hair, he let out a sighed and started walking around the main center of the country where the festival was still bright and young in the night.

He had very troubling and contrasting thoughts about the fiance of his brother , Reina holmwood. He knew it was wrong , forbidden to even have a twinge of romantic or any type of feelings for her but he coudn't help it, especially if its her, i mean who woudn't?

It was night and the darkness was hollowing out the trees around him, he was distracted to not notice that he had reached the end of the mainpoint of the festive area.

Just as he was about to retreat to return back to the car for the family manor, he heard rustling and whimperings of...perhaps a lady?

At this late hour of the day , why was there a lady murked up in a corner? moreover was she ...crying?

The young lord walked further to the noise for a better understanding of the situation. And there she was, with hair as black as opal , and light pink eyes as bright as the stars that witnessed the start of a love story between two confused humans.

He widened his eyes-

She looked so divine, sitting under the embrace of the moon's displaced rays of light. Her mellowed long black eyelashes that were drunk with her tears, and those same tears that rolled down her rosy , pale skin.

He blinked before stumbling backwards a bit with surprise when she looked up at him with those flushed eyes. His dark blue eyes contrasting her red flush of an expression. Slowly he bent down with one hand over his chest as curtesy.

"I-I greet the lady of....?"

She fumbled around, straightening her white plain dress that just acts as a catalyst in the element of her purity. She hastily wiped her eyes and got up.

With a low bow and and spreading of her pearl satin dress, she replied with her gentle and shaking voice.

"I am [Name] Vadenburg, the second youngest child of the house of vaden."

She didn't dare look up to meet those alluring blue eyes, she can't face him after he had found her in a such a disheveled state. Oh it was so embarrassing!

At such a close proximity between the two , The beige haired male took her dainty hands in his and kissed the palm of the back of her hand. Such a gesture can only bring an equal amount of blush to the young lady.

He looked forward to meet the gaze of her shell-pink eyes, she flinched for a fraction of the second before nodding her head at acknowledging his sweet courtesy.

The young dispenser smiled gently, he couldn't believe that [Name] vadenburgh, the flower of the empire, the emboidment of elegance, the lady that was always composed quite contrast to her age in any social gathering he had seen her. She was the trend setter for ladies of the nobility, with both beauty and brain's, she was the only lady of the Vadenburgh house.

But she was out here in the young of night with no one to guard her, and more so she was weeping so sadly, it would make one believe she was a stubborn child stuck in an adults body.

They both were sitting on the bench near the fountain where he had found her crying, [Name] was feeling anxious sitting near such a ...infamous and pretty young lord, and it only increased her stress when she heard he was from the Dispenser house.

Her hands were clammy in the white ruffled gloves she wore , as she fidgeted with her fingers.

And with a familiar calm expression that Aden had been so familiar with she spoke out, again , with that addicting and enticing voice.

" It's...Alright , you aren't overstepping any boundaries sir Aden , do not worry, and to answer your question...I-"

With a sigh she hid her face between her slender hands, seeing this, he spoke out.

"You don't have to say anything, indefiantly I was going over the limit with that sensitive question."

To be sorely honest , Aden only wanted to know what made her cry so much , or more importantly who? , he doesn't understand why her, a stranger, and a noble he had briefly met eyes with before enticed such emotions within him by just looking at her.

He felt the urge to hold her in his arms and never let her go.

Maybe its her gentle loving eyes that spoke with emotion, or maybe its her ebony hair , those silky wavy threads that had a waft of such a sweet smell. Else it's her pretty lips that were swell with the color of a plum pink.

He had to stop himself , but god how can someone make others feel this way? do other lords feel the same way with her?

"No no! it's more than fine, I just..had snuck out to visit the festive, i wanted to run along with the children and dance with the women and enjoy my time , that's the reason i don't have an escort."

"But why sneak out? is it perhaps...the fact that your family doesn't favor the festivals of the commoners?"

She slowly shifted her head towards him and with a small smile she smiled and nodded her head.

"Its exactly that my lord."

" But your very perceptive with your surroundings sir!"

She laughed softly with her hand covering her face, his eyes unconsciously moving towards her supple lips. His eyes widened again.

'What am i doing?? such disgraceful thoughts, i mustn't..'

He quickly swerved his head to the side and covered his rosy face with his hands.

[Name] stopped laughing when she heard no input from the lord and got worried quickly, in a tensed but softer voice she asked.

"Are you alright sir? is..is it something i did?"

Hearing this a fluttering felling bloomed in his chest, god, she was simply adorable. He calmed down and looked at her, and his hands slowly reached her's , when she flinched , he asked.

"May I, my lady?"

She looked at him with such a bewildered expression, the young woman wasn't expecting him to reach out his hand to her's, let alone having physical contact. She couldn't possibly ignore such a lord, and it wouldn't hurt to latch for bit more affection and comfort, right? after all no one had ever stood by her truly for who she was, her only identity was the young lady of Vaden.

Her eye's softened and she smiled, nodding her head.

He laughed out loud at her response, only if he could freeze this moment, did god pity him? is that why such an angel was bestowed to him?

"Please my lady, call me Aden."

The lady frantically moved her hands around and only replied in a enigmatic tone-

"Then It-it would be only fair for you to call me [Name] then , sir Aden!"

And the day ended with two young teenagers bound to fall in love, one could tell what love could do to you, and how it shows through the flushed expressions of both the young nobles.

Love is such a beautiful thing.

On the one hand - the show is very self harm related by nature, and so I expect it to be part of the roleplays.

On the other - playing the character I do, I often feel like I get pulled into a lot of them and it sometimes gets a little tiring.

I personally prefer the silly goofy times, but I respect everyone's right to play our little online game of house however they prefer.

The design choices I made in this post are found with the bold text, red text, and layering. The bold text and capilization on "favorite show" and the word "Not" both create hierarchy and draw the viewers eye to these mainpoints.

Having the words "notice" and "not" both in red text emphasizes that viewers should pay attention and stop and read. The word not emphasizes that the show will not have a new season.

Having the text layered over an image from the show helps viewers or audience members of the show recognize familiar scenes and tie this to the important message.

So after posting this I received feedback from at least 2 others pointing out that apparently the popular headcanon/take is that Hibari only speaks Japanese? But doesn't it make sense for him to at least be semi-fluent in another language or two given the fact he apparently comes from a good family? and most importantly!!! the rule of funny! as you said it's much funnier if Hibari can understand when someone is shit talking him in a foreign language so he can whip around and fight them!! (Or maybe it’s funnier if he doesn’t but can just tell by the vibes they’re shit talking 🤔) Or even later when they've been in Italy for a few years and one day he responds back to something someone said to him in Italian and Tsuna is like "You've known Italian this whole time???" Because yes, what he learns and when he chooses to speak it does depend on his whimsy.

And yea for Chrome!! See, we only see her use a little bit of Italian and the time frame in which kokuyo and the varia arc happens is like one month and maybe a week or two? So that's not a whole lot of time to learn unless she was already fluent! I like to imagine Mukuro takes a little time to teach her some when he can (because I agree it's a very cute concept!). But the rest she picks up from hearing Ken and Chikusa speaking it. And when she tries to repeat back what they say Ken can't help but angrily correct her pronunciation, and Chikusa joining in but in a much "nicer" way. Thus also helping her improve!

The thing you sent me in regards to Apple... It will haunt me for days to come 😀🫠🫠 but also will be very fun to think of the many hijinks and scenarios I can come up with thanks to that new piece of information. KSDJDS SO! the thing about Canadians and French. The Vtuber is right it is part of our curriculum no matter where you live in Canada since it's our second official language. But tbh... We don't learn much over here (in western Canada). I remember watching a lot of Finding Nemo in French tho 🐟... Or I guess I should say Quebecois because it's actually a bit different from the French you'd hear in France based on words and accents (as in the french would laugh at you or judge you if you use it around them /j... /hj). How fluent one would be depends on the person and where they live in Canada! To be honest a majority of western Canadians don't know any French! If someone does know it really well here they tend to have gone out of their way to learn it (unless their family is from Quebec). I too am guilty of not knowing French anymore despite the fact I even took a class in university lol. Even in Eastern Canada (where I went to university) I met a lot of people who didn't know it, but also a lot of people who did!! So it just depends! Let's talk languages in In Somnis (and general language headcanons I have for characters)

Truthfully, I'm not sure how exactly I'm going to go about this in the actual fic itself because realistically not everyone would be speaking the same language nor at the same fluency. For the ease of telling a story I might just not have anyone really acknowledge this and just pretend everyone speaks the same language but I also feel this isn't true or accurate to the story I want to tell so I'm still figuring out how realistically I want to handle this topic in In Somnis (as I could also use it to help highlight certain themes I have if I do make languages a big deal but once again that comes with an assortment of other complications).

Biggest example being is that Apple doesn’t actually speak Italian very well (and eventually Japanese too once it gets to that point in the story). She’s just fluent enough to get herself by (especially after already having been living there for about 2 years before the start of the series) but she struggles a bit at learning new languages. Do I lean into this or not? I do worry how it would complicate things such as communication down the road. But perhaps that's just the struggle I need to work through as an writer...

Anyway! let's talk about some headcanons!

As I said earlier Apple doesn't speak Italian very well! On the other hand we have Reborn who is a polygot and who I see as someone who takes a special interest in languages. I think Reborn would try to teach Apple Italian but because I also headcanon him as Sicilian I definitely think he tries to teach her Sicilian too (which is a bad idea especially at the start because she's already struggling hard enough with one language why are you throwing two at her now). On the other hand we have Luce who I headcanon as Northern Italian (From Milan). I think it would be funny if Luce would try to teach Apple Northern Italian slang and intonation and accent. Something that annoys Reborn to no end (which only makes Luce wanna do it more!) and only proves to confuse Apple more lol. Now what languages does Apple actually know? She's the most fluent in English having grown up in North America (I don't know if she's American or Canadian yet but probably Canadian since that's what I'm most familiar with), some Burmese, very little mandarin, and enough Japanese to show anyone she's a weeb /lh. I think her daily life gag would be that due to her poor understanding of Japanese she would often mistake similar sounding (or not so similar sounding) words for one another which leads to all sorts of misunderstandings and hijinks!

Let's talk about Reborn now (and the other arcobalenos in general)! Well I already said he's a polygot... For Apple and Reborn I think they're primarily speaking English to one another but do randomly mix in or switch to the other languages they know. I think Reborn would actually speak better Burmese (and of course mandarin) than Apple which annoys her to no end. Apple girlie... Why are you letting this white man show you up? /lh I think in general when it comes to the Arcobaleno they're all speaking a mix of Italian and English to one another depending on their level of fluency but it's also just a mix of languages. I imagine them all sitting at a table together you're gonna just hear a lot of different languages being spoken back and forth. Reborn would speak to Fon in Mandarin, while immediately turning to Luce to address her in Italian. Switching to English when it's a group discussion but then switching to French to bicker with Verde. And then of course those who are also fluent in those languages would also contribute and all around! Many languages to be had here!

Now for the tenth gen!! So obviously Gokudera is fluent in Italian but I also like to think he's fluent in English (when he and Apple bicker it's mostly done in English lol). Mukuro I think is another one who is fluent in all three (English, Italian, Japanese). And honestly... Hibari being a rich boy I think he would definitely be fluent in multiple languages. I'm not sure which ones yet but I think if he wanted to learn he could pick it up pretty easily! Now, will he actually speak those languages to you? That's a whole other can of worms... Oh, and I think Lambo is also fluent in all three! (and as we know I-Pin only really knows Mandarin but gets better with her Japanese with time) For Tsuna, Yamamoto, Chrome, and Ryohei I think they're not fluent in either English or Italian (well chrome is learning Italian and is getting there thanks to the Kokuyo gangs influence). I definitely think once things calm down (so post-canon) Reborn starts to give them weekly Italian lessons (he makes Apple sit in on these too much to her displeasure "why am I learning with the kids this isn't fair I'm more fluent than them!... Maybe..."). And he also makes Apple give them English lessons! Though she's not the best teacher so... the results vary lol. Also, Gokudera, being fluent in both languages, doesn't need to be there but attends them anyway to support and help Tsuna. He's so respectful during Reborn's lessons meanwhile for Apple's he's always got something to say and nitpick at. The girls also attend these lessons at times (Haru is the most fluent in English out of them all but Kyoko's isn't bad either!) Apple also gives them separate lessons at times because she finds them more pleasant to be around /j

And then finally... Let's talk about the True Earthlings! Considering they're basically some form of ancient being that they would have their own language! I do think because they've been alive for so long though most Earthlings have picked up multiple other modern languages.
