omg. the new Daichi post. reminded me so much of this girl in one of my creative writing workshops in college who ALSO wrote a story where the main character cut her finger and wondered about love???? um??? cutting your finger!!! can be something so personal!!!??!?! omg I love it so much

cutting one's own finger open is the modern person's reckoning with their own mortality, you know? it's also a nice metaphor for loss of control or focus, a change from what's normal, etc. etc. etc. there are just so many narrative possibilities with cooking and food, man, i'm so here for it.

i did! mostly! my apartment building’s pipes froze overnight, so i kinda didn’t have running water until like 11 am? which, awesome, cool, great. my mom dropped off a case of “emergency water botles” at the beginning of winter and i thought she was nuts, but it turns out mom was right once again.

you meet hinata on the beach

when you decided to take a photography class, you kind of expected to just take some pictures of sunsets or the campus squirrels. for some reason, a reason that you're cursing yourself for now, you didn't exactly expect to need to take pictures of people.

which, you know, you know, is so stupid, but here you are, at the beach about an hour from your campus, hovering around with your camera and hoping that you find someone with a little time to kill.

you spot a flash of red coming out of nowhere and you jump backward, nearly dropping your camera as a blue-and-yellow ball whizzes past your face and a full-size man follows right after it.

"sorry about that!" comes a shout. the next thing you know, your heart is pounding and the guy is trotting off with sand-covered legs and toes and the ball cradled against his side.

now, you have an amateur photographer's eye (which, now that you think about it, may have just been your professor insulting you), and you think that there's something special in the way the man's bright hair stands out against the pale blue of the sky when he slams that ball over the net he set up with his friends.

so, you shout, "hey!"

he looks at you, ball in his hands, and you watch wide, pretty eyes blink once, twice, three times. yeah, you think, he'll do.

"can i take your picture? i think you owe me for the ball thing."

omg Japan!!! That sounds so fun. I studied abroad in Ireland for a semester which was awesome. and we got like a week long break where we could go travel around, so we went to a few countries in Central Europe and we had some shenanigans that reminded me of your karaoke moment. we also got locked out of our place!!! so there we were. just 5 idiots in various states of panic. trying to open the door to the airbnb in a city where we did NOT speak the language. it was hysterical. We also were booking tickets online and accidentally bought train tickets from the wrong station one time so we missed the train and had to find a hotel in a panic, and I had taken this really strong foreign Benadryl thinking that id just be napping away on the train, lo and behold we’re walking around this city trying to find a place to stay for the night and I’m genuinely zombified barely coherent or aware of what’s going on😂😂😂 that trip was so great and had so many hilarious chaotic moments omg

ireland! that's so wonderful, it's on my list of dream destinations when the world stops being, you know, like this.

strong foreign benadryl oh my gosh, this is a lot like the part of our trip where one guy had to learn the japanese word for hydrogen peroxide because he cut his foot outdoors or something, and that's? surprisingly hard to find in japan, apparently?

italy is on top of my list! i'd love to see southern italy in the fall, but also the winter olympics will be in milan in 2026 and i love figure skating, so i'd love to see italy a few times in my lifetime!

5. Ceylon tea: Do you have a song you like, but have bad memories with?

i'm trying to think of this so hard because i'm absolutely positive that i do, but i can't think of exact songs? i know i had a very cringe-y kpop phase when i was like, 12-14 (because everyone does) and listening to a few from that era makes me feel nostalgic-in-a-bad-way even though the songs are still good. tvxq's keep your head down comes to mind right now actually
