Known as a Standard or Bishops Mantle, this chainmail gorget-like piece of armor is a good addition to a chainmail haubergeon or hauberk to provide protection for the neck in the absence of a chainmail coif. The Mantle is made from flat, stainless steel links. The top links of the chainmail are stitched onto a leather band. The diameter of the Bishops Mantle is adjusted with a pair of brass buckles and leather straps.

I've finished a couple of maille commissions recently.

This one's a long-legged brayette, all riveted, made from 7mm links. It is designed to extend just below the knee, and so includes a lozenge-shaped gore near the end of each leg.

And here, another standard. Mixed solid/riveted with a 9mm dagged mantle and 6mm collar. The liner is five layers of linen.

Overall, I'm pretty pleased with my progress, and both of these clients seem pretty happy with their commissions!

petrus_apiarius' solution to the maille skirt closure and suspension is brilliant. Haven't seen anyone else do this, but it looks like less hassle than using a drawstring and you don't have to deal with having a big buckle on your back (a common solution I see).
