Since most of you following this page have seen some of it already, I’m just gonna give you my concept of Agent 4’s new outfit, along with a headcanon that has stuck with me for a while:

Agent 4 can fight, and I’m not talking weapons.

I’ve had Agent 4 follow this headcanon across all of my works and I really enjoy the idea of a character from splatoon get physical. And I’m am happy to see it shine with the likes of Frye.

I wanted to tackle this concept in different ways in both of my fanfics since they are separate from each other.

In TYFBH, Agent 4 takes hybrid martial arts classes, this is really nothing more than part of the curriculum for her. She never uses it in real situations. Given the premise of the fic, this is rarely plot relevant but adds some sense of effort to the girl.

In Dual Complexity however, Maika (pictured above) learned a little street fighting. That being said, she only uses it if absolutely necessary. Say, if she has no weapon, or can’t take a specific person down with ink alone. I haven’t written any yet but I do have potential scenes where she uses this alternative.

That said, I redesigned her hero suit to give her the best of both worlds. Maika is not a pro, but has enough to work with in any predicament and is able to move as she likes.

I don’t think I can have every, future fanfic featuring Agent 4 with this trait. But I would enjoy writing scenes involving her sucker punching people.

Splatoon Fanfic Timeline

Dual Complexity, like many Splatoon fan-creations, has heavy reliance to the lore, and that is at the cost of the timeline.

Since Splatoon moves in real time, it was challenging to arrange the events of the playable story modes without making the past too slow-paced, especially since I didn’t want to drag with this info in-narrative.

To make it make sense, the goal was to shave a year off the original timeline. To help me out, I took major Splatfests and some directs that mention of the playable story modes. I chose to ignore when the live performances originally took place, moving them to somewhere within the timeline.

Here's a TLDR:

XX15: Hitto (Captain) moves to Inkopolis Plaza and meets Cuttlefish, later defeats Octavio

XX16: Pearl and Marina meet, Callie vs Marie Splatfest

XX17: Maika (Agent 4) enters Octo Canyon and saves Callie. Hachi and Co fall into Kamabo Co

XX18: Hachi leaves Kamabo Co., later moving in with Maika

XX19: Hitto is made captain, Hachi and Maika resign from the NSS, Final Splatfest (Splatoon 2)

XX20: Pearl and Marina start dating

XX21: Maika graduates from high school

XX22: Sanne (Neo 3) enters Alterna, Hachi goes on world tour.

XX23: Hachi enters the Spire, Sanne saves the world, Shiver becomes leader, Hachi exits the Memverse.

Dual Complexity takes place 2 weeks later in September XX23

XX15:

Hitto (Captain) moves to Inkopolis Plaza in May. He meets Cuttlefish who tries to warn him about the Octarians. Hitto finally accepts, if it only means getting better at turf wars.

Hitto turns a new leaf and becomes a real agent, defeating Octavio in December, seven months after joining.

XX16:

Pearl and Marina meet in January at Mount Nantai.

Callie vs. Marie Splatfest takes place in July

XX17:

Octavio escapes and begins the “Octo Valley Rehab Project”. We’ll touch more in that when we get to it.

Hitto and Cuttlefish travel to the Cape in May, and the events of the Squid Sisters Stories take place.

Maika (Four) moves to Inkopolis Square for the Summer in July, casually living until she noticed Marie watching her. She follows her to Octo Canyon and stumbles upon the campaign.

Hitto and Cuttlefish survey the cape, encountering Hachi (Eight) in October and falling into the Metro.

Later in early December, Maika saves Callie. So, Octo Canyon took five months to finish.

XX18:

Hachi and Co. escape Kamabo Co in June, taking him eight months to do so (heh).

After staying with OTH, Hachi moves in with Maika in July.

XX19:

Hitto becomes captain in March and has Maika and Hachi resign from the New Squidbeak Splatoon.

Maika and Hachi begin working at Grizz Co. for the time being.

The final Splatfest takes place.

XX20:

Pearl and Marina are officially in a relationship, starting in January.

Hachi is invited to Off the Hook's world tour.

XX21:

Maika graduates from high school. This is the first time she gets contact from Marie since her leave, even if it’s just a casual conversation. She quits Grizz Co. and begins a job as a tutor.

In August, Hachi quits Grizz Co. for the tour.

XX22:

This is where we really start screwing around with the timeline...

In September, the remaining members of the NSS notice some disturbance in the Crater, leaving Cuttlefish to watch Octavio. Octavio somehow escapes, and Cuttlefish goes to Splatsville to find a new agent.

Sanne (Neo 3) starts on Alterna in October, a month after moving to Splatsville, Hachi would end up in the Memverse months later in February (The same time the first Direct for the DLC dropped) when OTH would wrap up their tour.

XX23:

Sanne saves the world shortly before the Nessie vs. Alien vs. Bigfoot Splatfest, when Deep Cut have at this point seen the 'monstrosities' they spoke of. This means she was going in and out of Alterna for six months, and given she was not explaining why, it left her in a rough patch with her friend group. She hasn’t completely surveyed the haven however.

At this time, Marie attempted to Calle Maika and Hachi but the Octarian was still trapped in the Spire at the time, forcing them to wait.

Hachi would 100% the Order Spire in September the same year (when the second Direct dropped) and after Shiver was made leader of Deep Cut. This makes the events of Side Order last for eight months, haha.

With OTH's tour over, the trio travel back to drop Hachi home, only to receive a certain message from Marie asking the gang to come back together after five years of radio silence from the NSS.

Two weeks later: Dual Complexity.

i will properly revisit this post soon but in light of splatoon 3’s release: maika is an unabashed Big Man stan.

cafe stile and how they play splatoon:

maika: usually sticks to basic shooter weapons (especially fond of the splattershot jr. and the aerospray) and almost exclusively plays turf war. doesn’t really pay attention to gear stats, picking clothes that just look nice. only tries to attack if provoked. keeps things simple with the long-haired inkling girl :) doesn’t play ranked all that often so she currently sits at C+ rank. stans callie ❤️ favorite ranked mode is rainmaker

kaho: has 100%’d both the main campaign and octo expansion and she wears that golden toothpick with pride! usually plays as an octoling boy because they’re cute :) mainly sticks to turf war but goes on the WARPATH when playing ranked (esp in splat zones. girl gets SERIOUS about dem zones). always has Optimal gear for any mode (even if it results in her looking like she raided a donation bin). usually mains rollers and dualies and is at a comfortable A- rank. stans marie 💚

mafuyu: exclusively plays brellas when in turf war and switches over to splatlings when in ranked (esp. the nautilus). has at least one (1) piece of pure gear. hates playing clam blitz (nevermind the B+ rank). almost exclusively wears the schoolgirl gear sets and almost exclusively plays as an inkling. meanwhile she’s obsessed with salmon run, currently sitting at profreshional 400.

miu: Completely Addicted To The Explosher. usually harmless in turf war but is a MENANCE in tower control. expect a revenge splat and a taunt or two. often seen grinding for new gear abilities in turf war and salmon run. usually plays as an octoling girl (but switches to the inkling girl (or sometimes boy bc she loves the hipster hairstyle) on rare occasions). currently S+3 ranked! stans pearl 💖

hideri: kaho got her into the game :))) exclusively plays as an octoling girl, has since never switched back after she completed the expansion. skipped girl power station and refuses to retry and get the true mem cake. mains the kensa sloshing machine and E-liter (much to kaho’s chagrin). fell in love with the smallfries and absolutely refuses to touch salmon run as a result. usually wears pearl’s amiibo gear set (or at least one piece of it) and has at least one pure MPU gear on at all times. always attempts to be the first to grab the rainmaker (and usually dies). currently an S rank :) she is not above squid partying. stans marina 💚

dino: inkbrush main, inkling boy, always has at least one (1) piece of kensa gear. has yet to 100% hero mode (only did enough to unlock the hero brush and hasn’t touched it since). actually likes clam blitz (and mafuyu thinks he’s weird bc of it). currently at A rank. also stans callie

akizuki: X Rank. exclusively plays as an octoling boy and slowly working towards 100%ing both campaigns. actually breezed through most of the harder stations (and eventually gave into hideri begging him to complete girl power station for her). “goo tuber my beloved.” wears the fresh fish gear set when playing with the others (mostly bc it freaks kaho out). usually yelling at everyone to get on the goddamn tower goddamnit. also a marina stan 💚

So in relation to a previous post I ended up making a team for Splatoon 2 promotional inkling girl aka Surume, aka Maika, aka Flip as I'm calling her in this

I guess now would be the best time to introduce my official artwork for the iconic agents of Squidbeak Splatoon and two OCs I made.

Hero Suits

Inkogen's hero suit is my own creation entirely. Since her species came up 200 years after its cryogenic dormancy, I decided to give her uniform a traditional feel by adding a native american spin to it.

However, Nana and Inkogen are inspired by Project Splatoon 3. I just gave them personalities and new clothes. I like seeing characters and giving them entire back stories. The quirks of being a creator I guess...

I will add concept art and character sheets for them but that will take time and I'll post them one by one for each character.
