A/N: pretend you’re in a huge group with all of the students present when this question was asked :) also, I went with the anime adaptation of the characters rather than the manga, just fyi!
There’s a part 2 here! in which you react to them describing you as their type :)
Yuji:
“Y/n! What kind of man is your type?”
“Yeah y/n, we wanna know!” Yuji said, excitedly. You figured there was no harm in sharing, Todo and the group were just looking for fun to distract them for a little bit.
“Okay, well I like guys that are average height, not too tall or short. Super strong, of course, with a cute, goofy smile. Oh, and colored hair is always fun too!”
“Oh man, he sounds so cool! If I find any guys that look like that, don’t worry, I’ll send them your way!” Shaking your head and laughing, you got into a conversation with Megumi while Nobara yanked Yuji out of your earshot.
“Yuji! Don’t you realize what y/n said?!”
He rested his chin in his fingers, deep in thought for a few moments before he answered.
“No? Should I have?”
Nobara didn’t hesitate to whack him on the top of the head.
“They literally described you, idiot! Don’t you own a mirror?!” Yuji’s mouth opened in a big smile. This was great news since he had a big crush on you!
“Y/n! I have to talk to you!”
Megumi:
“Y/n! What kind of man is your type?”
You sighed. You didn’t want to join Todo’s antics but you had no choice.
“You don’t have to answer him. It’s a stupid question anyway.”
Megumi’s voice came unexpectedly from behind you. You smiled inwardly at his protectiveness.
“I appreciate that Fushiguro, but I might as well. Let’s see. I like moody boys on the lankier side with dark black hair and dark blue eyes. He has to love animals too.”
You looked at Megumi to see if it registered that you were talking about him. All of a sudden, he sported a deep blush and excused himself from the group. Todo gave you a hearty smack on the back for your response.
“I’m proud of you for baring your soul like that to the one you love,” he said, tears rolling down his face. “Y/n, go get your man!”
You turned to look at your friends who all just shrugged their shoulders. Looks like you’re off to find Megumi then!
Nobara:
“Y/n! What kind of woman is your type?”
You had no hesitation answering this question, you loved to talk about things like this, gossip and crushes and the sort. Besides, it was time Nobara knew how you felt!
“I thought you’d never ask! I really like short girls with short hair. If it’s a vibrant color, that’s a plus. Spunky personalities are the best and I need someone who’ll keep up with me when I go shopping.”
Looking over at Nobara, you saw her jaw drop and you knew she understood what you were getting at.
“Y/n! You liked me and you never told me?! This whole time?!” she shouted, running towards you. You didn’t know whether she was going to hit or kiss you so you took off running as well. Gotta love the feisty girls!
Maki:
“Y/n! What kind of woman is your type?”
“This stupid question again?” grumbled Maki. You were a bit nervous to reply to Todo. You had a huge crush on Maki but she was, well, intimidating, to say the least. To be fair, so was Todo, and you heard what happened to Fushiguro so you went with the safest bet.
“I like girls who are on the taller side and insanely strong. Light eyes, dark hair. Straight to the point, always. And uh… glasses.”
Maki hadn’t moved a muscle and you cringed, fearing the worst. Best case scenario, she would ignore you ever said that. Worst case, she’d beat you up. When she came over and grabbed you by the collar of your shirt, you gulped.
“Y/n. We’re talking about this somewhere else.”
(Spoiler alert: when you were somewhere else, you kissed🤭)
Inumaki:
“Y/n! What kind of man is your type?”
Todo was on your last nerve. Sure, he seemed nice enough, but why should you be expected to tell everyone your personal business like this? In front of both schools’ students, no less! When you were filled in on what happens when you don’t answer truthfully, you resigned to the fact that you were exposing your true feelings to everyone today, whether you liked it or not.
“I like shorter men, preferably with medium length blonde hair, and bright purple eyes. He doesn’t talk much but more than makes up for it with his top tier sense of humor.” You noticed that Inumaki never broke his gaze from you as you spoke. You shuffled over to where he was sitting to explain yourself, but this time it was you who couldn’t find the right words.
“Mustard leaf?” Inumaki broke the silence first, basically asking you what was wrong since you marched over there and hadn’t said a thing.
“Look, Toge, I’m sorry if I—”
He tugged on your sleeve, stopping you. In his hands was a note that read, “I like you too” with a little smiley face at the end.
Yuta:
“Y/n! What kind of man is your type?”
You weren’t sure how to answer Todo. On one hand, you didn’t want to expose your crush on Yuta. On the other, would be it so bad for the truth to be out there? He was a kind person that wouldn’t drop your friendship if he didn’t feel the same way.
“I really like average height guys with longer dark hair and big, dark blue eyes. Personality wise he has to be extremely loyal and caring. Oh, and good with a sword.”
“Sooo… Yuta?” questioned Panda, and you nodded in agreement, your face warming with a blush.
“Wait, me? Really?” Yuta’s eyes lit up as he broke out into a hopeful smile. You nodded again.
“Oh man, that’s great!” he exclaimed, and then sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck. “I’ve liked you for awhile too and I just thought maybe you didn’t feel the same but you do! Which is amazing!” You laughed softly at his rambling. This school year just got a whole lot better!
Gojo:
“Y/L/N sensei! What kind of man is your type?”
“Todo, isn’t that wildly inappropriate to ask your superior?” you answered, a joking tone present.
“Maybe, but we’re curious! Please, sensei?”
“Yeah, sensei! It’s just for fun” Yuji chimed in.
“And it’s a team building exercise to know something so personal! You’re always saying we need to communicate better,” added Nobara. You rolled your eyes playfully.
“I meant that to be an exercise among you children, not me. But I will entertain this for only a moment, so listen carefully,” you told the group and they cheered like their favorite baseball player hit a home run. As you were about to spill your secret, you spotted Satoru leaning against a wall, clearly interested in the secret you were about to spill.
“I like super tall men who are lean but extremely strong. He has to be very funny and goofy but with a kind heart. White hair and striking blue eyes are also a must.”
Maki’s eyes almost popped out of their sockets as she exclaimed, “You like that blindfolded idiot?!”
As the kids clamored at the newfound information, Gojo took that time to approach you and the students.
“Excuse me everyone, but me and my new lover must depart,” he announced, taking your hand dramatically while leading you away to laugh at what just happened.
Noritoshi:
“Y/n! What kind of man is your type?”
You groaned. You really didn’t want Noritoshi to know about your infatuation with him. It was no secret that he had more important things to deal with than schoolyard crushes so you were afraid to confess in case it made him uncomfortable—or worse, dislike you!
“You don’t have to answer the immature question, y/n,” Noritoshi spoke up when he noticed your discomfort. You were grateful for him but you wanted to keep the peace among your classmates and judging by the death glare Todo sent to you two, you’d better start talking.
“Thank you Kamo, but I value harmony among friends so I will answer this for Todo’s amusement only. I like tall men with a bit longer dark hair and gray eyes. Having an honorable character and being good with a bow is the way to my heart.” You felt Noritoshi tense up next to you and you refused to look at him out of fear of rejection. He took you by surprise when he leaned over ever so slightly to whisper to you.
“I was caught off guard by your confession but I can’t say I don’t feel the same. Can we discuss this later?”
Todo:
“Y/n! What kind of man is your type?”
Your eyes went wide when Todo’s booming voice reached your ears. You were super into him but no one knew. You knew you couldn’t fool him with a fake answer, though, and if you were going to feel his hand for the first time, you’d rather it be from holding it with your own than having it curled in a fist and connecting with your face.
“Um… I like men that are extremely tall and buff. Dark hair, tan skin. And passionate, of course.”
“Hm! That’s a great answer! He sounds hot,” replied Todo, smirking, “but unfortunately for that perfect fake man, I’m taking you on a date first because you’re my type!”

You rolled your eyes. This big oaf is going to jeopardize your friendship for sure. You really liked Mai but you figured she wasn’t into dating and all the lovey dovey stuff.
“Do I have to answer?” you asked, praying Todo had a change of heart.
“No, y/n, we all wanna know. What’s your type?” Mai chimed in, a sly grin on her face. You gulped.
“I… like women that have short, dark hair and dark eyes. If she’s taller than average that’s cool, and I love a snarky personality.”
“No way!” exclaimed Momo when she realized who you were talking about. You refused to look anyone in the eyes out of embarrassment and fear. What you weren’t expecting was Mai grabbing your hand and leading you somewhere else. Hopefully it was to talk and not get beat up!
Momo:
“Y/n! What kind of woman is your type?”
You huffed in annoyance. There were always some sort of antics with this guy! You had liked Momo for awhile now but she was like an enigma to you. You could never get a good read on her so maybe telling her how you felt outright would be a good thing?
“I really like girls with blonde hair and blue eyes, and short, too. Having a cute personality is a plus as well,” you answered, hoping that was straightforward enough.
“Wait a minute, that sounds exactly like me!” Momo exclaimed, blushing slightly. You sheepishly nodded your head.
“Because it is. I have a crush you.”
The whole group erupted in a chorus of “aww’s” and “how adorable.” You were nervous that you had accidentally made her uncomfortable but your fears disappeared as she came over to sit next to you. When the students were distracted by another topic, you felt Momo’s hand rest over so slightly on top your own and you knew you made the right decision to confess.
Miwa:
“Y/n! What kind of woman is your type?”
Before you spoke, you met eyes with Miwa. It almost seemed as if she was anxious to hear what you had to say!
“Girls with dark blue eyes and are average height are my type. I also really like girls with kind hearts and are down to earth. Blue hair isn’t too bad, either,” you finished, smiling nervously. surprisingly good, once you get past the barriers.
despite what it initially seems like Mai is a heartless bully, she is not as cruel as people think.
BIGGEST RED FLAG? emotional barriers and selfishness.
initially, it is very difficult to get past mai's irritable temperament. she is provocative, and has a certain mischievous aspect to most things. at first glance, she's a bad girl like some character from a 2000s movie. still, once you get past that rough layer and get to what's underneath, you'll see that her heart is soft and very pure. she wasn't open to love, but your arrival could definitely change the course of her thoughts on the matter.
the selfishness part is not as prominent. mai alternates between being very selfish and being very selfless. it's a strange combination, but the way she grew up and was raised in the zenin house made her very defensive and not very open. it's a problem, but not incorrigible.
DO YOU NEED TO BE A SORCERER?
the answer is: no, but it is preferable that you are. most life has always been and will be about sorcery. this is the world she was born into, and she will die in it, whether she wants to or not. with so little energy that she could only create one bullet a day, she became more accustomed to the prospect that the people around her would, by nature, be better and stronger. it's a rotten feeling, and it fills her with envy in an almost insurmountable way. the sensation is worse when it comes to her sister. that would extend to you, and regardless of your strength, she thinks it would be more acceptable for you to be a sorcerer.
still, if you're not a sorcerer, there is a certain beauty to it. for her, it was unacceptable, but a lot of you made her see the actions and prohibitions of her clan with different eyes. not that she likes the place very much, but we are a product of the environment in which we were raised, and let's face it. no one finds the zenin house pleasant. if you are not a sorcerer, she relaxes even more in the face of the normality that surrounds your relationship. simply, no more worrying about debates and curses, about big clans and politics. just cute dates where she buys you a coffee and says it was because she had money left over (she likes to buy you things.)
WOULD SHE CHEAT ON YOU?
absolutely not. mai grew up watching the men in her family commit adultery in the rooms of the house and the women filling themselves with drink and medicine to endure it all. she doesn't intend to become that woman or allow that to be the kind of person you become, either. your relationship faces many problems, but after the initial stages, she becomes motivated to become a better person, for you. to give you what you deserve, the best version of herself.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS.
something very difficult to ignore in your relationship is the zenin clan itself. like every young woman, mai faces a dangerous fate ahead of her. after maki left the clan behind, this ended up reinforcing expectations of her, which include marrying and having many children with a sorcerer that the zenin will choose. it is the fate that every young woman in a clan must be content with, because demanding humanity in jujutsu and clan zenin as a woman is unthinkable. still, she didn't think much about it. it's the kind of thing you avoid thinking about because it gets on your nerves.
however, after you started dating and when she realized that she really loved you, it started giving her nightmares. her fear of what the clan would do to you if they found out is surreal. she knows you could never be together under normal circumstances, they wouldn't allow it. her collar seems tighter every day, and in desperation, sometimes she hides money under her mattress, thinking that maybe one day, she can run away with you. maybe one day, when fate is knocking at her door, mai will be forced to run away with you.
she didn't fight for her freedom on her own, not after maki left. the spiteful thought of her sister leaving her behind rather than staying at rock bottom with her still haunts her. sometimes she holds your hand a little tight while she watches you sleep. she wonders, if she asked, would you be at rock bottom with her, instead of wanting something better? it is selfish of her to think that.
maki is also a delicate situation. all of mai's family has some issues with her, but her twin sister is a special case. even though she loves maki, she feels constant envy and has a huge problem comparing herself to her. it gets worse if you know maki personally. sometimes mai gets so paranoid that she thinks you would choose maki over her. just the idea hurts.
୨୧ MAKI ZENIN — green flag.
isolating, barely communicating, but she tries her best and we love her for it.
everyone's favorite restricted (sorry, toji) is actually a better girlfriend than people think.
BIGGEST RED FLAG? emotional barriers and distancing.
very similar to her sister, maki is very used to not letting people into her heart. she is seen as harsh, strong and very scary, even by those closest to her (panda, toge, yuta, etc). but just like the folks in jujutsu high, she might warm up to you and allow a glance through her defenses.
the hardest thing to deal with in maki is not her temper — but her habits. she's used to doing things for herself, whether it's wielding a weapon or finishing dinner because someone burned it down. her habits are very strong and as difficult to break as her emotional walls, which are there so she can avoid getting attached to you and getting hurt because of it. but, again, nothing incorrigible. be patient, and she'll open up.
DO YOU NEED TO BE A SORCERER?
in my opinion, not really. it would be okay if you were one — being more able to defend yourself and all —, but it honestly does not matter to maki. not one bit.
out of all people, she couldn't care less about someone's cursed energy or technique, because she understands strength comes from various sources. she is a varied source. she would find it okay if you were or weren't, too.
WOULD SHE CHEAT ON YOU?
never, ever. sincerely, maki is the type of guardian friend that keeps this behavior as a girlfriend. if someone is flirting with her, she normally gets upset enough — but while in a relationship with you? oh, it makes her nearly able to commit a murder or two. like, c'mon. can't they see the ring? her arm wrapped around your waist? the way she keeps trying to pull you closer, to have you hanging over her as near as possible?
are they blind?
OTHER OBSERVATIONS.
honestly, almost everything with maki is extremely indirect or just hinted towards. if you notice the little signs, you can easily tell how much she cares, even before your relationship officially begins. how much she insists you take coats when it's cold, or the way she's started to conveniently take sweets and small snacks that you like with her. little things like that.
she is more vulnerable than she would like to admit. especially after shibuya where she was burned alive and had to wonder if you were still out there, alive. the scars not only marked her body, but her mind as well. it has changed in many ways since the beginning of the year. you understanding that and understanding her, supporting her, is just one of the reasons why she loves you.
she's extremely perceptive, so don't even think she won't notice something. even when she's not watching you like a hawk, maki can notice small things easily. did you change your hair? she'll be the first to notice. are you not eating much and seem a little sick? she will ask what is wrong. have you bought any new clothes, even if they look like ones you already have? she says it will look great with one of her coats.
maki is a little overprotective, but only at first. she also understands if you need space or time to yourself. she is possessive, but not in the crazy way.
her most striking trait in the relationship is how unafraid she is to say that you are together. she's very proud — of you, and of being with you. and maki isn't shy about telling anyone that, or kicking the ass of anyone who doubts or makes you doubt yourself. yeah, she's your girlfriend. everyone unhappy with it can go to hell.
୨୧ NOBARA KUGISAKI — green flag.
a girlfriend who is certainly very passionate and happy, nobara is a chaotic one to deal with. but once you're settled with that? oh, you're on.
BIGGEST RED FLAG? she is extremely passionate. about everything.
not that much of a red flag, honestly, but it can be a handful. if you are a more calm and centered person, you may have problems with this nature initially. nobara is very instinctive, sincere and not afraid to say what she thinks. she loves fashion, she loves fighting, she loves feeling beautiful — sometimes the amount of things she does, and the most dangerous ones, become overwhelming.
of course, her passion also extends to you. her loved one, her amazing (she makes a point of mentioning) significant other. it is not a bad thing on it’s own, but sometimes nobara can be very adamant about you staying away from dangerous matters (most part of her life), or trying to scare someone away.
despite that, she truly loves you, and nobara is proud of saying it out loud. and poor is the soul of megumi fushiguro, paying for his lost best (that itadori would get a girlfriend before her) when she introduces you.
DO YOU NEED TO BE A SORCERER?
honestly, no, but it's preferable that you are. nobara grew up in a small town that she came to hate, taught by her grandmother how to use jujutsu before entering jujutsu high. it's a super inspiring, motivating background, depending on the angle you look at it, but difficult to explain to the person you're flirting with if they know nothing about jujutsu.
nothing that matters that much, but she feels she would be more understood if you were a sorcerer — bonus points if you're not from a clan or anything. just raised from difficulties and mundane in everything else, like her.
WOULD SHE CHEAT ON YOU?
no. that's, simply it. nope. nuh uh. no way in hell. not in a million years.
if any idiot is flirting with her insistently, she'll be tempted to hit them with a hammer. cheaters and idiots get a bonk!
you and her only get love, though.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS.
nobara is a girl of steel, but she loves to be feminine and sometimes even fragile (not that those two things are related). she valuates anything that seems truthful and supportive to her — being it carrying her bags for her or hold her while she watches a movie, or killing bugs for her. simple things build even more trust and affection for you.
she's clingy, even though she won't admit it. total little spoon, who loves being carried and treated as a princess. in exchange, she'll give you the royal treatment as well. the type that yells yes! im their girlfriend! suck on that! proudly after you achieve something.
are you permanently invited to movie nights, shopping trips and her small walks around the town. and she is more patient with you, in case you are taking her things and end up dropping them.
she gives advice, speaking openly and honestly what she thinks, and doesn't hide opinions, but she's a great listener, as well. nobara is always ready to be at your side in whichever you might need — offering her shoulder for you to cry on or asking if she should get her hammer.
୨୧ SHOKO IERI — green flag.
probably really biased, but i think shoko is the best option on the list. you’ll see why.
the exhausted, smoking doctor we all love. why not find true happiness while listening to I don’t smoke and holding a pretty woman’s hand, right?
BIGGEST RED FLAG? she is hot and cold. distant and clingy.
being the third person in a trio can be quite distressing. not that shoko doesn’t value the friendship she has with satoru, far from it, but sometimes she feels very left out. as if the world was only about satoru gojo and suguru geto and their damn moral problems. it’s irritating, to think that gojo isolates himself from her when she’s right there, always has been.
for this reason, and because she doesn’t have many other friends, and none in the non-jujutsu sphere, shoko alternates between two defense mechanisms against abandonment. it’s one of the things she most despises and scares, and she can either acquire a calm and distant nature or one that’s clingier and even more affectionate than normal, afraid of you leaving her. surprisingly, you can handle this easily — just be honest about what you feel, how you do not like this behavior. she will listen the wake-up call.
once that is handled, and you express your feelings about it, she starts therapy to aid her keep the relationship. you’re something she refuses to lose.
DO YOU NEED TO BE A SORCERER?
no, not really. a small part of hers might prefer you aren’t. shoko lived as a doctor and a valuable healer in the jujutsu world. devoid of technique, but skilled with reverse energy, she is essential to the jujutsu school. her friends and technically, family, are all sorcerers, or those who aren’t, come into contact with jujutsu in some way (usually unpleasant, like yuta okkotsu and itadori yuji).
the idea of having a non-sorcerer partner, but one who is unaffected by these horrors and the knowledge that there is something more than normality, is an attractive idea. normality and simplicity would be good for her, but frankly it doesn’t matter. if you were not a sorcerer, she wouldn’t introduce any of the jujutsu to you initially, afraid of you getting hurt. however, opinions from friends (thanks, nanami) can change her mind — and while it’s complicated to resolve a fight over your girlfriend lying for so long, it would be even worse if she lived a lie forever.
WOULD SHE CHEAT ON YOU?
not. a. single. chance. simple and easy.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS.
shoko is a very skilled healer, and there are a lot of people depending on her every day. it weighs on her shoulders like an anchor sometimes. this weight can lead her to isolate and withdraw, and experience anxiety or depression. many sorcerers or anyone involved in jujutsu go through difficult periods constantly. you need to know when your girlfriend’s distance means “i want space” or if she’s desperate to be saved. it can be quite exhausting.
shoko has many self-destructive tendencies. smoking itself is a great example. even though she heals her lungs with reverse cursed energy she will hurt them even more later. she is more delicate than she looks.
during much of her life, shoko adopted the role of caregiver. a doctor, nurse, coroner and multiple other things, she is everyone’s supportive friend, even if no one comes to her rescue when she needs help. being with you makes her show this nature often, initially hiding it when she’s feeling bad so as not to worry you. however, by understanding how serious she is about being with you, she allows herself to lean on you and encourages you to lean on her. together, united, so that one does not overload the other.
she has problems, like everyone else, but most of them disappear after an honest conversation or when she herself realizes her own flaws and encourages herself to become better.
୨୧ URAUME — beige / red flag.
much like a man being invited to ladies night, uraume is not a woman. but i will write them here for convenience.
one of the greatest traits of uraume that everyone knows is that they are very loyal. unfortunately, this only applies if your name is sukuna ryomen. otherwise? ehhhh...
BIGGEST RED FLAG? devoted to sukuna.
let’s face it, no one who is so loyal to a cannibal can be considered trustworthy. sukuna is a cruel and unscrupulous man, and uraume is undeniably his right-hand. they are the cause of pain and suffering that spread through decades. they accept the kind of behavior sukuna exposes, and they might even encourage it, at some rate. this is not something to wish for in a relationship.
besides, you will always be the number two in uraume’s life. they swore loyalty to sukuna, they will follow through it until death.
DO YOU NEED TO BE A SORCERER?
not really. it is difficult portraying uraume with anyone in general — much less a non-sorcerer. but i honestly think that uraume is their own person, and even though they are someone who is reserved, they have their own taste in personality above power or strength. it's one of the reasons they admire sukuna, of course, but surprisingly, i can see them not dating a sorcerer.
although, if you are not a sorcerer, prepare for one hell of a ride. sukuna will torture you for fun, and uraume will allow it.
WOULD THEY CHEAT ON YOU?
no, i think. but because a very specific thought hits me. for example, i can’t see sukuna and uraume having anything sexual or romantic in any shape or way. with him so uninterested in all of that, there’s not really any options for them to cheat you on with. but, i suppose it can be said they would, if uraume could get with sukuna.
you can make your own judgment about this one, though.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS.
being with uraume means making sacrifices and accepting that, yes, you are important, but you will never come first. as already mentioned, you are permanently stuck in the “second priority of uraume” position, because sukuna exists. and even if he hadn’t been resurrected yet. from the moment uraume woke up in a new body, their goal has always been clear: to bring their master back and serve him in the best way possible.
it’s possible that sukuna will use you to mess with uraume. this could mean several things. clearly the king of curses has a respect for his most devoted servant, but that doesn’t stop him from getting bored. uraume’s loyalty was never put to the test before you showed up, and it will be one day. in case uraume deserves some punishment, when sukuna tortures you and uses reverse energy. heal to hurt, only to start all over again. uraume watches, impassive and cold as the ice they produce, and will confess privately that it was one of the worst experiences of his life. but they will never lift a hand against their master. uraume will fight anyone to protect you, except if the attacker is sukuna.
be prepared to stand alongside the greatest accomplice to ever walk the earth. uraume knows the consequences and the harm that sukuna brings, but they don’t care, they won’t stop him. beyond morality, uraume’s loyalty cannot be broken, not even by you. in a way, you will also become an accomplice.
୨୧ YUKI TSUKUMO — green / beige flag.
BIGGEST RED FLAG? distant (physicially).
yuki has a reputation that precedes her in the jujutsu world: the special-grade sorceress who refuses all missions, takes payment anyway, and uses the money to travel. you constantly receive souvenirs, souvenirs, and gifts from the other side of the world, but nothing will compensate for your girlfriend’s affection in the form of a warm hug.
she constantly tries to bring you with her, but it can all be very overwhelming to you. new cultures, languages you do not speak, people side eyeing you. besides, you can’t, because of work and other matters. the idea of being financially dependent on yuki is very scary. since without her, you would easily be on the other side of the world, without money. obviously, she would never leave you in that situation, but it’s an idea that runs through anyone’s head.
DO YOU NEED TO BE A SORCERER?
honestly, i am tempted to say yes, because having a non-sorcerer partner goes against much of what she shows herself to be interested in, but yuki is a very kind and determined person who is not afraid to speak her mind and go after what she wants. she will tell you what type of guy he is as easily as she would flirt with you if she were interested.
despite that, i think it does not matter to her, honestly.
WOULD SHE CHEAT ON YOU?
that's a very easy assumption to make, seeing as you haven't seen yuki for endless months and both you and she need relief (emotional and sexual) eventually. however, contrary to what many believe, no. she wouldn't cheat.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS.
no matter how passionate and well-intentioned yuki is, she will rarely be able to truly be present. video calls and daily calls don’t really satisfy any of you ── that’s when they’re possible, thanks to the time difference. it’s easy to understand how a relationship like this can become unbearable and even unsustainable after a while.
yuki is very busy, so even when she is back from her long and time-consuming trips, she won’t have one hundred percent of her time to dedicate to you. meetings, research, more scolding from society’s superiors. little time for motorcycle rides and cuddles, if you ask her.
looking at the big picture, yuki would be a great girlfriend if she just made a little more time to spend with you and try new things together ── instead of trying things out and then telling you everything in a video call at four o’clock in the morning.
୨୧ YOROZU — red flag.
BIGGEST RED FLAG? she is yorozu. just kidding. devoted to sukuna.
yorozu is a complicated case. she has few redeeming qualities, but you can understand that she is an attractive, intelligent and, in a way, powerful woman. knowing chemistry and physics before those concepts were properly delved into, she discovered new things to her power. but she is simply unbearable in one aspect: her determination in relation to sukuna ryomen.
this determination makes yorozu’s life goal become to kill and marry sukuna. it’s even impressive that she found a partner, and she makes that very clear. does the opportunity arise? well, you’re not important anymore.
DO YOU NEED TO BE A SORCERER?
i think so, but that's a more personal view. yorozu seems more attracted to power than to the sukuna's personality aspect itself, which demonstrates that what attracts her to a person is raw and pure power. considering the time she came from and her traditional ways, this would be, for her, related to cursed energy. so yes.
WOULD SHE CHEAT ON YOU?
if you consider the whole thing with sukuna. and that she would cheat on you with sukuna. even if there is no one else for her besides the two of you, between you and him, she wouldn't choose you.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS.
frankly, yorozu’s part is very short because she appears in about six chapters, causes chaos, fights and dies. also, i think her character has a lot of potential and little use, but trying anyway. yorozu is extremely determined to have what she wants, a woman who wouldn’t give up for anything in the world. if on the one hand, this is positive ── she doesn’t give up on her relationship ── it is also negative. she won’t give up her search for the king of curses’ heart, even if she has to rip it from his chest.
it’s exhausting knowing that, in some ways, you’re a replacement for what yorozu can’t truly have. it’s hard to say whether pure and true love really matters to her, as yorozu has her own specific and disturbed views on love. it is likely that she will not be loving in the relationship at all, and will manipulate you in order to keep you with her.
yorozu has a goal and the means to achieve it. once she gets close enough, she knows her presence will be more of a hindrance than a help. she entered the relationship with you with the mindset that one day, she would have to get rid of you. but a part of her heart warms. yorozu wants to do it herself. no henchmen, no tricks. just her and you at her end ── which must be worthy and brought only by her. with her, you’re likely to end up stabbed in the heart, while she looks into your eyes and presses her lips against hers one last time, tasting the blood. this is her goodbye to you, before she leaves for her true love.

One step forward in understanding this enigmatic man might as well be three steps backward because, each time you thought you had learned something about him, you only come to the realization that nothing much had been discovered at all.
But as investigations via search engines, social media sites, and Wikipedia pages proved futile, sources that could quell your curiosity dwindled.
So, you turned to your last resort.
“Who’s Toji Zenin?”
“What—”
Across from you, the raspberry macaron in Mai’s hand stopped by her lips as the girl snapped her focus from the pastry to your unanticipated question, with Maki visibly turning stiff in the adjacent chair. The three of you sat surrounding a small table in the twin’s private lounge, located in the northern wing within the Zenin residence.
Visiting the central family property was not uncommon ever since your engagement and wedding earlier this year, but the architecture would never fail to impress you. The mansion itself resembled the Imperial Palace more than anything—an edificial centerpiece defined by the elegance and simplicity inherent in traditional Japanese design, with latticework embellishing the wooden exterior and, inside, carefully painted doors opening into tatami rooms.
Given that Mai and Maki were back in Tokyo for their summer breaks from universities abroad, the sisters established themselves as your close friends and had brought you into their tea room, adorned with European furnishings that would come off as atypical compared to the Japanese heirlooms elsewhere in the residence. On the table sat an imported tea set from England, at the center a French-inspired pastry tower prepared with caramel-topped croquembouches, chocolate-covered profiteroles, and the like.
In great admiration, the sisters had been barraging you with inquiries about your life back in your bachelorette days, asking about your volunteering trip to the Philippines or the charity auctions in Dubai.
Now, with the shift in discussion, the sisters exchanged an uneasy look.
An entire conversation appeared to be held in the way they traded glances. The usual sparkle in their eyes faded, which must mean the girls were remarkably uncomfortable, but Mai forced a polite smile as she placed down her macaron.
“Y/N,” she began carefully, “May we ask how you know Toji?”
Even though she tried to spin the question as casual curiosity, her apprehension could not be more obvious.
“I don’t know him, really,” you lied. While dishonesty went against your morals, watching the twins’ shoulders fall with relief was enough to assuage the guilt. “He’s just…” My friend, to put things in the mildest terms. “He’s just a name I have heard. That’s all.”
Maki dabbed at her mouth with a lace handkerchief, not making a big deal as she added, “Toji’s a cousin.”
So, the Zenin last name on his diploma was not a coincidence at all.
Such a groundbreaking discovery should have thrown you into a whole whirlwind but, to be frank, the realization did not come off as too surprising at all. If anything, Toji as a member of the Zenin family was the perfect explanation to why Toji seemed so astute, why he would talk like he knew more about Naoya than you, and—as Geto had once said—why Toji was ‘not where he could possibly be.’
While Toji’s reason for opting for the Fushiguro name remained a mystery, what you did know now was that he was indeed affiliated with the twins before you by blood, which—by extension—must mean that Toji would also be a cousin to…
…your husband.
Wait.
An unsettling chill ran down your spine.
“Cousins, as in,” part of you didn’t want to know the answer, “distant cousins? Or…?”
“No,” the older twin interjected matter-of-factly, not knowing the full background behind your seemingly innocuous question. “First cousins.”
Ah, so the closest type of cousins possible, which was exactly what you had hoped not to hear. With this additional information, you tried to hide the clamminess in your palms. What would be the best word to describe this void now? Did you feel disappointed? Misled? Betrayed? Toji certainly had known that you were wed to his younger cousin, yet he willingly chose to hide his background as he kissed you, touched you, and fucked you.
A reversal from your sentiments before, you currently felt both disgusted and hurt.
Why did Toji keep this information from you? What sick person derived satisfaction from having sex with his first cousin’s wife? You were so damn stupid for placing all your trust in him. Looking at the situation now, he was just another iteration of the same manipulative and disrespectful man you had been trying so hard to avoid.
“Are you close with Toji?”
Mai shook her head. “No. We don’t talk to him anymore.” Her comment struck as odd. Anymore? Had they once been, then? Before you could ask, her gaze darted around in caution before she leaned forward and said lowly, “For your information, Naoya got into a huge dispute with him earlier this year.”
That’s quite recent.
You understood that Mai and Maki had been uncharacteristically tight-lipped as they did not want to slander the family heir in front of his wife. Blissful ignorance was what the twins must be thinking, hoping to preserve the peace between you and your husband. However, what you had yet to reveal was the broken marriage that had been masked for everyone’s sake, disguised by a pretense that all was well.
Which was why, on that note, the timing could not have been more perfect as a tall young man with ombre hair and hazel eyes flung open the door in one unforgiving slam, rattling the fine china and startling the seated individuals inside.
“There you are, you whore!”
Your eyes widened with shock upon seeing Naoya Zenin in the entryway, your husband’s scowl icy and malicious. He came stomping toward you as his eyes held a dangerous hostility that was impossible to ignore, and you could oddly sense an impending doom when he stormed with zero regard for anything in his path, kicking aside a potted plant and toppling over a ceramic vase.
Standing up, you tried to hide the confusion that befuddled your already mish-mashed brain.
Today was Tuesday.
Was he not supposed to be at work?
“Naoya,” you began calmly, cognizant of the onlooking sisters behind you, “this is not the right place to—”
“You’re such a fucking desperate bitch, aren’t you?” His words were sharp and bitter, his glare filled with hatred like a fire doused with gasoline. Before you could request clarification, he stopped steps away and swung his right hand up, pressing a black business card to your stunned face, the paper crinkled from his intense grip and rendering you petrified in your stance.
No, this couldn’t be…
From your peripheral view, you watched Mai and Maki place their hands over their open mouths as they read Toji Fushiguro’s calligraphed name on the business card that also had in obvious words: 'sex therapist.' Shame racked your stomach. Merely minutes ago, you convinced the twins that Toji was to you nothing more than a name, and now, karma bit you back like a bitch.
With your voice evaporated, you croaked.
“Where did you find that?” You had been sure that you placed the badge away.
Naoya used his anger to crumple the card and tossed the now useless paper ball to the side. “In your purse,” he gritted, “How long were you planning to hide this from me?”
The ensuing guilt suffocated you. “I—” I don’t know.
Sensing the weakness in your will, Naoya burst into a maniacal laughter that cracked through the air, creating a disconcerting symphony. He bent forward, shoulders convulsing with every diabolic and mirthful guffaw.
“You’re so god fucking pathetic, woman. Do you have any idea who Toji Fushiguro is? That bastard is Toji Zenin, you ignorant slut—he is my cousin. Well, I guess I never told you about him, though, because he doesn’t fucking matter anymore anyway. I don’t know how you ended up crossing paths with him, but this is hilarious!” The man kept cackling and roaring like he had gone insane. “Were you two brewing shit about me? Actually, let me guess since you’d gotten hold of this business card: did you have sex with him? Did you have sex with Toji? Going around fucking your husband and then your husband’s cousin is nothing to be proud of. Tell me, did you meet the other sex therapists as well? Did you get stretched out by them, too? Whose dick did you like best? Whose? Whose? Is that what you like, being passed around and used like some sick trophy? What a fucking animal! How dare you disrespect our marriage. How dare you disrespect your own hus—”
Your hand lashed out before you could suppress the impulse and delivered one resounding slap across Naoya’s face. You watched him shut up and stumble backward, clutching his cheek.
"Ow!"
For a moment, the world seemed frozen still: the sisters gaping in complete stupefaction, your husband staring at the ground wide-eyed, and you heaving from the incoming emotional onslaught.
”How dare you…How fucking dare you disrespect me!” The coalescence of anger, agony, and resentment—bottled up in your heart for months upon months—was now being released as you dissolved into tears. “What the hell is wrong with you?! How could you say such messed up things? You are sick in the head, Naoya, you know that? Out of respect for myself, how could I possibly respect you?!” The only sound echoing in the room became your uncontrollable cries, sobs that escaped past your lips in raw and muffled bursts. Torn apart by sorrow, you could hardly breathe from how constricted your throat had become, your knees wobbling and weak. “Y-You have no idea how lonely and miserable I have been since I walked down that aisle. For the past six months, you—as my husband—have done absolutely nothing but make me feel like a rat in my own home, a mistress in my own marriage!”
“Fantastic! Exactly what I wanted to hear, I am glad I have made your life horrible!” Naoya snarled, not caring for how everyone else’s eyes widened at the scathing statement. Unbelievable. Truly, painfully unbelievable. Did your husband really just say that to your face? He could not give a shit that you wept pitifully, instead catching your shaky wrist in the tightest grasp possible as he added on, “My only regret is that I had not made your life even worse.”
“What the fuck!” you heard Mai gasp as a gut reaction.
What the fucking fuck, indeed.
While you had been subject to Naoya’s verbal harassment during these many weeks, for him to tell you that he wished he had tortured you further was beyond heartless. The searing ache that burned your skin might as well be fatal because your respiration turned erratic like someone had trapped you inside a bubble.
Hyperventilating, you subsisted on shallow gasps.
“Don’t go around thinking that you’re any better, alright? You’re calling me pathetic for sleeping with your cousin, but have you considered that I had been placed in that position because, since the start, you’ve been cheating on your wife?”
Yelling at his face allowed you to release more tears from your lachrymose eyes. Now, Mai and Maki must truly be appalled at all these revelations. What happened to the fairy-tale marriage you had told them about? Well, that never existed to begin with, and with these thoughts in mind, you found a sadistic satisfaction in watching your lawful spouse fume with deep-seated rage.
“That’s right,” you mused with derision, “we’ve been two sides of the same coin all along.”
Naoya clenched his hands at his sides, disgusted to have been compared to you. “Do not put me on the same level as—”
“No. No, you don't get to talk! All you have done since we have been married is for you to talk and complain and bitch about everything, but now, this is my turn,” you screamed in return. “I…I hate you!” and you pointed right at him, “In fact, I despise you. You never tried to see what I had to tolerate to stay with an asshole like yourself because you had been too busy sticking your dick into another woman while you could hardly look at me! No wonder your cousins worried about me. No wonder Toji told me to file for a divorce. Because you, Naoya Zenin, are a total piece of shit!”
His momentary pause hinted at the tiniest self-actualization that flickered within him. Perhaps he finally realized how you had been feeling now that you freely spat out all the turmoil that had been chaining your soul. He took one additional step toward you, torn between whether he should keep up with his anger or succumb to remorse for hurting you.
But, knowing this man, he—of course—opted for the former.
“I never,” he seethed lowly, “wanted this marriage.”
Maybe you truly have become deranged or maybe you genuinely found his statement funny, for you began to emit tearful cackles in your laughter.
“Now, that is one big fucking lie.” Since your earliest encounter, Toji had suggested that Naoya solely regarded you as nothing more than ‘a sweet, innocent fuck,’ and the longer you had stayed with your husband, the more you began to acknowledge how these accusations were all true. “We all know that you’re going to be nothing without me. A CEO who could hardly keep his wife for half a year? What a loser. What makes you believe that I wanted to be married to you? Who do you even think would want to do business with you after this? You never had respect in the real world because all that respect rests upon me.”
While you never fully understood Naoya, your words must have snapped a particular chord in him because he suddenly lunged forward.
“Fucking cunt—”
But before he could get too close, you darted away from him. “Don’t touch me!” you shrieked, voice shrill from the top of your lungs. “Do not ever touch me again. If you want to lay your dirty hands on someone, go touch your girlfriend instead!”
That’s right, he had another woman who he doted on far more than he could appreciate you. This wedding band, this engagement ring on your left hand meant absolutely nothing. Toji had been spot on—why the hell did you cling onto stupid shit like this, twisting the jewelry as if that would save your messed-up union? Without further empathy, you slid off the two rings and hurled them toward your husband’s chest before the circlets clinked upon hitting the ground.
At first, Naoya scoffed. He watched the ludicrous scene with a comical gaze, and when his brain processed what he just saw, he quickly fell onto his knees. All at once, he tossed his head back and let out a chortle—a full-bodied cachinnation that took the room completely aback—as his hysteria mounted.
“Good, good, good!” His screeches were like those of a maniac, his chuckles haunting, throaty, and lacking in sanity. “I’m glad that you’ve come to show the witch that you have been all along! Look at yourself! No wonder no one wanted you!”
Unable to be a bystander any longer, Mai stood up and hurled toward her cousin. “Shut the hell up, Naoya!”
But the said man was quick, using one powerful movement to punch the older twin first. “You shut the hell up, scum. Unless you want to be pummeled to the point where people will feel sorry to look in your direction.”
“Watch what you say!” and when Naoya turned to the new voice, the evil glint gleaming from his brown eyes appeared ablaze.
“Oh? Someone’s bold, too. Shall I bully you first then, Maki?” the timbre in his disdainful laugh crescendoed into unhinged amusement. “Say one more word, little girl,” he taunted, his imp-like face riddled with mockery. “C’mon. I dare you. I will throw you into the courtyard and beat your ugly face up. That’ll bring back warm memories from the good old days, huh?”
The younger twin gritted her teeth, her sister reaching for her arm as a signal to back down and stay levelheaded.
Meanwhile, once Naoya rose from the floor, he nonchalantly kicked at the rings because those emblems of your union had always been meaningless garbage anyway.
“If wanted to leave this badly, then fucking leave,” he deadpanned, his tone the calmest he had been this whole time. “I don’t give a fuck anymore.”
Those were your husband’s last words as he walked away, leaving you sobbing and shuddering with a lost soul and sore heart. While weeping and gasping, you had to endure watching his figure fade from view, all while wanting to stop the uncomfortable distress that heightened with his departure. You were huffing, panting, trying to stop your trembling.
The second Naoya slammed the door behind him, Maki ran up to your side and embraced your shaking form, all while you bawled and clutched at yourself. Her expression remained strong, but her palms were damp as they pressed onto your back, her arms quavering slightly as she soothed your cries.
“Sh, don’t cry. My sister and I are here, okay? Mai and I will protect you. Everything will be alright.”
Despite her reassurances, she sounded nearly as broken as you appeared, especially when your hand violently trembled because nothing could save you from the agony that drowned your tattered soul. You felt the disgusting urge to throw up—you were completely broken inside. In a futile attempt, you sought to regulate your breaths with one deep inhale.
Yet, at some point, Maki peeled back and she mouthed something.
Was she talking to you?
Why…why could you not hear her?
She sounded so muffled, as though you were underwater.
Why did everything sound so far away?
With your throat constricted, you could not breathe. Gagging. Gasping. Big, huge gulps of air, but the oxygen failed to enter your lungs. You couldn’t breathe. You could not fucking breathe.
You gripped the fabric by your chest and your other hand sought for something else to hold, but you ended up on the ground anyway. Choking. Coughing. Was something foaming at your mouth? Something warm and wet spilled from your orifices. Were you vomiting? Why were you vomiting?
Holding your body upright, Maki was the only reason that you had not remained on the floor like a fool, but even she stared at you with concern and…horror? Why did she look so scared? Was she screaming? She looked like she was screaming, but her face appeared all contorted like you were looking at her through a fish-eye lens.
After a while, you could not even see her or her sister anymore because your vision turned spotty and then black.
See!

Why could you not see?
When your hearing returned to some degree, the sounds that filled your ears were frantic shouts and endless clamor.
“Call Toji! He’ll know what to do. Hurry, where is your phone?” It was Mai. Scrambling. Bags were being opened. Items being tossed. “Call Toji, now!”
A phone started to ring.
Buzzes and buzzes and more buzzes as the waiting intensified.
Then voicemail.
Hello, this is Toji Fushiguro.

“Okay. I know, I know! I’m calling him already!” someone screamed back. Was this Mai? Was this Maki? You could no longer tell, but the same person shouted, “Wait, wait. He is calling back. Toji is calling me back.”
“Then pick up the phone!”
“Toji…” one of the twins started, the cracks in her tone making her sound like she was weeping too, and her words composed your last bits of memory before the world dissolved completely. “Please…help us.”
Even labeling Naoya Zenin as ballistic would be far too much of an understatement.
The rage, wrath, and sheer indignation that swelled in his every capillary surpassed the twenty-five years' worth of virulent rancor that he had for his fucked-up family.
Since when did you get so goddamn arrogant? Naoya wanted to hurt you, ruin you, and do everything in his power to sabotage you.
Not just you, though. Because that would be too easy.
But also his father, his cousins, his ex-coworkers, and—most importantly—Toji.
Such ill feelings were what led the Zenin CEO to practically leap into the Mercedes-Benz that awaited him at the entrance to his family home, and he immediately ordered his chauffeur to press on the pedal toward a very certain condominium several kilometers away.
Fifteen minutes later, a very surprised Mari opened her door and an enraged Naoya greeted her, shoving her against the wall and colliding his lips into hers for a fierce kiss. His actions lacked passion, only charged with aggression as he stripped her and threw her onto the living room sofa. He could hardly care that he treated the woman as though she was nothing more than a prostitute, while the latter mistook her boyfriend’s rage for desperation, and she begged for him to pull at her hair and force his tongue down her mouth.
At some point, Naoya drove his mistress’s face into the couch cushion and dragged her hips to have her ass raised high. He was too clouded by fury and too blinded by anger to think twice before he forcefully penetrated the woman. He fucked her raw and held her close, jostling her body as though she was a ragdoll, eliciting her loudest mewls that cried for his name.
“J-Just like that!” she whimpered, eyes rolling to the back of her head as he pummeled into her dripping hole, paying no mercy for destroying her with his ruthless pace. Her knees gave out from under her, and she crumbled from the sofa and into the carpet, only for him to tumble too to follow the socket he needed to keep his dick soaked.
“I need to break you,” he hissed.
Fuck, he was going to come soon.

He ignored the woman’s ensuing pleas to stay at least five minutes longer. Unlike her, he had better things to do, and he rushed out as he fetched his phone from his back pocket and surveyed for any messages he might have missed while he had been away.
But when he turned on his screen, his most recent notification had his blood turn cold.

"Satoru, did you forget the sunscreen?" You groan
"What? No! I swore I packed it in that little hidden pocket inside the green bag!"
"Well, it's not here," You sigh passing the bag to your boyfriend to check for himself
"I could've sworn I put it in here!" Gojo whines
"You probably left it on the kitchen counter." Megumi says
"I bet he did. He's always leaving the important things there." You say
"So you remembered the CD player but not the sunscreen?" Tsumiki asked with a light giggle.
Gojo rolls his eyes in annoyance. Not only were the two preteens he was stuck watching sassing him but so were you.
"Great, now we can listen to One Direction while our skin burns," Megumi says
"One Direction is amazing! Zayn is so awesome!" Tsumiiki gushes as she pulls one of her CDs from the big bag that was supposed to have the sunscreen in it.
"I'm more of a Harry girl myself." You chime in
"Excuse me, could you not talk about another man in my presence?!" Gojo gasps, kicking a bit of sand towards you.
"I'll talk about whatever man I want to since mine forgot one of the most important things you need for a day at the beach." You say, pointing an accusing finger at Gojo.
"I'm your man?!" Gojo gasps wrapping his arms around you "Finally you acknowledge my presence, Senpai!"
"Stop that." You say trying to wiggle away, embarrassed as other beachgoers are staring at your loud-mouthed boyfriend. "You're embarrassing us and I'm a year younger than you, idiot."
"Never! Tsumiki, play What Makes You Beautiful! I'm going to serenade all of you!" Gojo requests as he turns his head to place a wet kiss to your cheek.
"Tsumiki don't do it!" Megumi begs "Last time he sang One Direction my ears almost fell off!"
"Then I won't sing One Direction...Tsumiki put Taylor Swift on! I'll sing You Belong with me, instead!"
"No!"
November 2013 (Gojo: 23 You:23)
"You're sure about this? She can't even see curses, let alone use a technique." Gojo reminds you as he drives.
"I'm sure. I hear she's strong in other ways. Besides you're Megumi's benefactor, I think I need a kid to look after as well." You say
"I just fund him. You do all the hard work." Gojo says
"Combing hair, wiping noses, and helping with homework isn't that hard, Satoru." You laugh
"Sure it is, the amount of boogers he and Tsumiki produce is disgusting," Gojo says, carefully parking the car
"Give me a call or a text if something goes wrong. I'll be waiting here." He says
"I think I should be saying that to you. You're the Gojo who just drove onto the Zenin estate like you own the place." You say
"True. I'll let you know if I become a damsel in distress." Gojo grins
His words are ridiculous but you do hope he contacts you if something goes wrong. Not because he couldn't defend himself but you didn't want him wiping the entire clan off the map, even if it would be for the best.
Hushed whispers follow you as you make your way toward your destination. Perhaps it's due to your engagement to Naoya. You can't imagine that the news of you and Satoru was out. After all, you had only told people you were both close with.
You're welcomed by the woman you can only presume is the twins' mother.
"And is this Maki?" You ask pointing to the little girl who peers around the corner of the doorframe.
"Yes, it is. But I'm sure you're more interested in Mai. She's the one who has a technique. I'll go get her for you." She says
"That won't be necessary. Let me have some time with Maki. I'll see Mai later." You say
She looks at you like you're insane but motions for her daughter to enter anyway before leaving the room. Her respect must only come because of her fear of Naoya's wrath. It hurt that so many people in the clan believed that you and Naoya were close. That you were only worthy of a bit of respect because Naoya might get upset.
Imagine if they found out what you and Satoru had done last night. You'd surely lose all respect then.
"Maki right?" You smile, hoping you're not coming off as intimidating to her, "Please sit down."
Maki wordlessly obeys you but you can tell she's trying to figure you out. The wheels are turning in her little brain.
"You know who I am right?" You ask
"You're Naoya-san's fiancee. My mothers talked about you before, and said you're an honored woman to be chosen for him." She spouts like the words have been perfectly laid into her mind, "She said you're the perfect example of what a woman in the clan should be. You're well-mannered and respectable."
Is that seriously what's been spread around the clan about you? Nothing else? Nothing about your technique or the fact that you're a special-grade sorcerer?
"Oh...that's wonderful she thinks so highly of me. I'll have to thank her later on." You awkwardly say.
If Maki doesn't know anything about who you really are as a sorcerer, this will probably take more effort than you initially planned.
"I don't really buy all that though. It seems like a bunch of scripted bullshit. Everyone around here buys into it though, even my sister." Maki says suddenly
Oh? What a surprising twelve-year-old girl Maki Zenin is turning out to be.
"I know you're a special-grade sorcerer. I also know you've kicked a bunch of curse's asses. " Maki grins
Good to see your reputation proceeded its self.
"What are you a fan?" You laugh, suddenly at ease with the girl
"Yeah!" Maki exclaims, suddenly standing up.
Her face gets red and she immediately gets back in her seat.
"I mean...no. I just hear some people talking sometimes." She lies, looking at the wall behind you.
"It's alright. I don't mind. It's nice to be praised, everyone likes to hear words of affirmation from time to time. It's what makes us human." You say
Maki slowly nods in agreement.
"I'm sure you're wondering why I'm here talking to you when Mai is the one with the cursed technique." You say, "The truth is, Mai doesn't really interest me. I am, however, interested in you."
"Me? Why? I can't even see curses." She grumbles
"That doesn't matter to me. You have potential to be amazing. Have you ever heard of Toji Zenin?" You ask
Maki shakes her head, figures, no one would pass on that bastard's legacy. Nabito must be content with Toji's vanishing after his death a few years ago. Too bad he couldn't get his hands on Megumi.
"He was just like you. He couldn't see curses and yet he became known as the sorcerer killer. Toji was immensely powerful and I think that with time you could be the same way." You smile, the man might've been a total pain in the ass but there was no denying he had been strong.
"But what about Mai? Wouldn't she be the better choice?" Maki asks
Cute. Thinking of her sister.
"No, she won't be able to get as good as you." You honestly say
Maki doesn't like that and rolls her eyes at you.
"Look, there's ways to become great. I brought one with me today. I'll even give it to you know but only if you agree to becoming a sorcerer." You say
"Fine. I've been wanting to show my family they're wrong about me anyway." She agrees
"Good, now, here's how all this will work...In a few years, you'll enroll at Jujutsu High, I'll be your benefactor so you're going to have to work pretty hard. And while you're there you'll become stronger than everyone else." You explain, hoping your over-the-top words will inspire her.
Maki follows you to the car where you can hear California Girls by Katy Perry blasting even with the windows closed. Satoru is going to end up deaf one day.
"Oh right...the gift." You say pulling a small case from your purse
Maki opens it slowly and is obviously disappointed when it's a pair of glasses.
"Um, I can see just fine." She mumbles
"These are special glasses. They let you see curses. Next time you're out, give em' a try. I'm sure they won't disappoint."
You give the girl a gentle pat on her shoulder before beginning to walk towards the car.
"Hey, wait!" Maki calls
You turn to face the young girl you just placed your hopes on.
"Thank you!" Maki smiles
Maki watches as you get into the car and say something to the person at the wheel. It looks like the two of you are laughing as they reverse. Then, just as the car passes her, she locks eyes with blue eyes covered by dark glasses. A white tuft of hair catches her eye and then you're both gone.

October 2014 (Gojo: 24 You:23)
"I mean it. After we both turn 28 I expect us to be married." Naoya says, "After all, I've done you a favor not spreading your relationship with Gojo everywhere. You can thank your little project for the news reaching me."
Maki. You didn't blame the girl for telling someone. You probably would've done the same thing if you were in her shoes. It was only a matter of time until he found out anyway.
"You don't even want to marry me, why the rush?" You ask boldly,
You've been spending too much time with Satoru and now you're mouthing off in front of Naoya.
"My father wanted us to be married already at 25." He explains, ignoring your rudeness "You're right, I don't want your ugly cunt anywhere near me. Why do you think I pushed for 28?"
His words are harsh and hurtful but you internally thank him for pushing the marriage off. It gave you more time to try and figure out what you'll tell Satoru.
"Better get your affairs in order, future wife. I have a feeling a certain Six Eyes user won't be happy about you leaving him one day." Naoya laughs "He'll certainly miss you warming his bed. He'll find another though, you seem to be rather forgettable, with that plain face of yours."
"Shut the fuck up, Naoya."
Shit. You should not have said that.
Instead of anger or fists, you're met with amused laughter from the man who represents everything you've been running from your whole life.
"Such a temper. I'll have fun getting that out of you once we're married. Until then, feel free to live as Satoru Gojo's glorified slut. I'll remind you of your real place in a few years." Naoya says, leaving you speechless.
The Tatami door of his father's expensive home slides shut behind him and you swear the anger inside you has never burned hotter.
"He said what?!" Gojo yells "Where the hell does this bastard live again? I'm going to rip his teeth out of his skull!"
"Satoru, be quiet! The kids have school tomorrow!" You try to calm him down.
You had come home expecting him to be in bed but now here you were spilling details about what Naoya did this time.
"There's nothing you can do about it now, what's been said is said." You say
"That doesn't mean I can't go over to his house and blow his ass up!" Gojo declares
"Just let it go, 'toru. I'm tired and I want to take a hot bath and go to sleep. I just wanna forget about it for now." You sigh
Gojo looks at you and he can see how worn out you are. From dealing with curses, Naoya's disgusting ass, Megumi, and Tsumiki, your energy is completely gone. For your sake, he'll drop it. Just for now though.
"Alright. But only if I get to sit on the floor and talk to you while you soak." Gojo says
"Fine...but it better not be about anything stupid like Digimon." You warn
"I was just gonna talk about how Tsumiki taught me how to make a Duct Tape wallet today." He says picking you up off the couch bridal style and carrying you to the bathroom, "For the record, Digimon is awesome."
"What wallet?" You ask as you begin shedding your dirty clothes
"Look," Gojo says pulling a bright pink Duct Tape wallet out, "Pretty cool right? She showed me all the steps and helped me when I messed up."
"Satoru it doesn't look very secure." You laugh "But yes, it's very nice. It's the perfect color for you."
"Right? Also, it's perfectly secure," Gojo says
He's eating his words a moment later though when his credit card slips out of the little pocket it was nestled in and right into the bathtub that was slowly filling with water.
"Alright, maybe it's not the most secure."
February 2015 (Gojo: 25 You:24)
"Trust me, he's totally gonna love it," Shoko assures you
"I dunno...he's been so stressed lately. The higher-ups have been breathing down his neck and he's been going through some training so he can teach at the school next year." You say.
"All the more reason to buy the dress. Every guy likes a little eye candy every once in a while. Nanami and I will even watch Megumi and Tsumiki for the night. That way you can really get into it!" Shoko grins
Your face heats up as you hand your card to the cashier. Why were you friends with her again?
"Could you please not say stuff like that in front of others, you're embarrassing me." You groan, avoiding the cashier's eyes as he smirks at you.
"Oh please, that's why we're friends," Shoko smiles, "So what time should I pick the kids up? Nanami and I will make sure they eat all their vegetables and go to bed early."
You try to think of the last time you and Satoru had a moment alone. Most nights were whirlwinds of chaos between cooking dinner, helping with homework, and then throwing in exorcising a curse or two...
"Four thirty...Satoru usually gets home at six. I want some time to do my hair nicely." You relent
"Perfect!"
Gojo can't wait to get home. He swears all his problems will be solved the moment he sees you. Today, he's exercised three special grades, sat in a boring meeting, and then had to listen to Yaga blab for hours about how important the next generation is. He already knew that...why else would he be personally training Megumi?
A hot shower and a big meal are on his mind as he fumbles with his keys to open the door. He can smell whatever you're cooking up behind the door and he hopes it's something with noodles.
"Satoru!"
Your sweet voice is music to his ears as you call to him from the kitchen.
"Yeah, I'm home." He sighs, removing the white bandages he's been using for his eyes. Perhaps he should go back to glasses.
All thoughts of passing out in bed leave his mind once he sees you. A little black dress hugs your figure as you stir at whatever's in the frying pan on the stove.
"Well, well... what's this?" He smiles
"How was your day?" You ask coyly like you're not all dressed up for him.
"Terrible, until I came home to all this." He honestly says, crossing the room to wrap his arms around you from behind.
"I'm making Sukiyaki." You say, accepting his barrage of kisses that he trails all over your neck.
"And it smells amazing... I'm more interested in this though..." He says slightly pulling the bottom up the dress up your thighs.
"Ah, Shoko said you'd like a bit of eye candy in your life." You smile
"Well, she was right." Gojo laughs, pressing a wet kiss to your ear.
"Forget the Sukiyaki, let's go upstairs. I think our bedroom is calling our names." He whispers.
"I'm in the middle of cooking, 'toru." You say, knowing he's going to win this one.
"We can order a pizza." He says, "I'll even get one with pepperoni on it for you."
Before you can get another word of protest out, he's switching off the stove and carrying you up the steps.
"Eye candy indeed." He laughs as he gently tosses you on the bed, "I'm so glad my meal is this delicious looking."
"Satoru!"
It's going to be a long night, it's a good thing Megumi and Tsumiki are gone.
September 2016 (Gojo: 26 You:25)
"Shut up Megumi!"
Tsumiki's room door slamming is loud enough to rattle the entire house.
"Not again..." Gojo groans from his spot on the couch.
Today was his first day off in months, he wished you were here and snuggled into the couch with him but instead, you were off on some mission with Nanami and that kid he was training, Ino was it?
Gojo wished you were here so you could deal with whatever the Fushiguro siblings were fighting about now. You had always been better at diffusing the situation that he was. After all, he'd often end up instigating more problems since Megumi was so funny-looking when he got mad.
"What's going on now?" Gojo asked the dark-haired boy
"Nothing. I just told her that her hair was weird looking today. Where is-"
"She's out on a mission with Nanamin. I'll be handling dinner tonight so go start your homework and apologize. " Gojo said
"You sure you can handle that without burning the place down?" Megumi asked
"Of course I can! I'm the strongest sorcerer alive...I can handle a little dinner."
"Goodnight, Zenin-san!" Ino called out the window as the car drove away
He really was a lovely boy, strong too. Nanami had trained him well. The walk up the sidewalk to your shared home with Gojo and the kids was your last sliver of peace though as you could already hear yelling.
What horrors awaited you on the other side of this door?
"Megumi would it kill you to help out?"
"Yeah probably. That pot is gonna overflow."
Your feet quickly carry you to the kitchen where Satoru is standing amongst...well you're not really sure what he's trying to cook.
"What's going on?" You ask
"You're home!" Gojo called excitedly, "How's Nanamin?"
"He's great. What's all this?" You ask gesturing to a pan that's been burned so bad its normally white bottom is black with charred food.
"He's trying to make dinner. He's been trying for almost two hours." Megumi says
"Satoru you're 26, can't you cook anything?" You ask as you pull your hair up, ready to take the spoon away from him
"I can cook. " He defends
"Frozen chicken nuggets don't count." You laugh
"Hey!"
Gojo watches as you toss what he was working on, to be frank, he's not sure what he was trying to make at this point. It had started as pork katsu and then evolved into a disaster.
"What's wrong now?" You ask as you rummage through the fridge.
"I wanted to have a nice meal ready for when we got back from your mission. Like you do for me." Gojo says
You can hear the pout in your boyfriend's words.
"It's alright, Satoru. It's the thought that counts." You assure him
"Next time you go away, I'm going to make the best dinner ever." He declares, resting his chin on your shoulder as you fill a pot up with water.
"Well, Nanami and I have orders for Friday...so I'd get learning, Satoru." You smile.
"Perfect. Friday night, my dinner will be even better than yours. I'm going to go pick out a recipe on my laptop." He declares marching off to who knows where.
"Can I ask you a question?"
"Of course, Megumi." You say, the boy rarely asked questions, so you were always excited to answer them when he did.
"Can you get someone else to cover your mission on Friday? I think if you leave him alone with the kitchen again he might blow us all up."
2017 (Gojo: 27 You:26)

"So he's cursed?" You ask as you skin the papers Gojo just handed you.
"Yup. The curse comes from his childhood friend, Rika." He explains "She's super powerful, I hope she doesn't try to squash me tomorrow when I meet with him."
You let out an ugly snort of laughter.
"Hey don't be mean, I'm being serious." Gojo smiles
"I'm sure you are, Satoru. and I know you're going to have no trouble handling Yuta Okkotsu tomorrow." You say
Gojo lets out a soft hum of acknowledgment.
"I can't help but think something is coming." He says
"Like what?" You ask
"I'm not sure." He says
"Then why'd you bring it up?"
"Do you ever stop to think that your words might come off as rude to others?"
"No, not really."

"Maki is doing really well for someone with no cursed energy. I'd hate to go against her in just hand-to-hand combat." You say
"Are you saying you're weaker than a 15-year-old girl?" Gojo teases
"I'll kill you." You threaten
Gojo just laughs and sits directly next to you on the couch you were occupying.
"Very well, I'll see if I can change your attitude tonight then. After all, it usually ends with 'More 'toru! Ah! Right there!'" Gojo laughs
You're going to cut him in half, seriously why does he say these things?
"Does it ever occur to you that behavior like that in public is inappropriate and embarrassing for not just her, but you as well?" Nanami chimed in
"Well, I think it's funny, Nanamin."
October
"Happy Halloween, Zenin-san!" Yuta smiles
"Happy Halloween, Okkotsu. Do you and the other first years have anything fun planned?" You ask as you walk beside the boy
"Panda said that Inumaki likes to use his cursed technique on drunk people to get them to do crazy things," Yuta says
Now that, you weren't expecting. Inumaki definitely wasn't supposed to do that but it certainly sounded funny.
"Oh wait! I wasn't supposed to say anything about that!" Yuta scrambles
"It's alright, your secrets safe with me. I went to school here with Gojo so I've seen my fair share of craziness." You laugh
"Thanks, Zenin-san," Yuta says
"What's Maki up to tonight?" You ask
"Oh uh, I think she said she was just gonna stay in her dorm room tonight. Something about being too grown up for Halloween." Yuta says
"Makiiii, I know you're in there, Yuta can't keep a secret to save his life!" You sing as you knock on the girl's door.
"That idiot."
You smile as you hear her rummaging around in her room before the door swings open.
"What is it?" She asks
"Let's go spar. I wanna see how well you're doing." You smile
"You're dropping your elbows too much, that's why you're losing to me." You advise as Maki falls to the floor again
"Or maybe I'm losing to you because you're a special-grade sorcerer who's 10 years my senior." She grumbles picking herself back up
"Pessimism won't get you anywhere." You say, easily dodging her next attack with her staff.
"I think you're spending too much time around that bandaged idiot. You're beginning to sound like him. " Maki says
You're starting to sound like Gojo? It can't possibly be...your worst nightmares are coming true!
Maki's wooden sparing staff makes a sharp cracking sound as it hits your face.
"Oh shit! I didn't think I'd actually hit you!" She exclaims, rushing to help you up.
"It's alright, I'm fine." You laugh
"You're laughing...I must've hit you too hard. I'll go find Ieiri-san to help you." Maki says, clearly concerned.
"No really, I'm fine. I'm just impressed that the clan's weakest link is now one of our strongest."
"If you're going to insult me like the rest of them-"
"I'm serious, Maki. You've grown stronger than anyone could have ever anticipated. As your fellow sorcerer and relative, I'm proud." You say rubbing your face, damn she hit hard.
"Whatever...thank you," Maki says avoiding your gaze
You smile knowingly. Getting praise was something that had always been hard for her even though she so badly deserved it.
"Can I ask you something?" Maki says
"Sure," You reply, patting the floor next to you so she sits.
"The stuff that most of our clan spreads about you...how much of it is true?"
"You're Naoya-san's fiancee. My mothers talked about you before and said you're an honored woman to be chosen for him. She said you're the perfect example of what a woman in the clan should be. You're well-mannered and respectable."
"Not much of it. I mean maybe at one point it was true. But now only the engagement is the true part of that stuff. Although I'm hoping to get rid of that one too." You say honestly
"I knew you didn't really like him," Maki said
"Oh really? Are you a relationship expert now?" You laugh
"No....but I figured since you're dating Gojo there's no way you could be into a freak like Naoya." She said
"You're right about that one." You smile, when did Maki get so perspective?
How grown up she's become since you first met her.
November
Tsumiki looks peaceful today. Her hair is freshly washed thanks to a nurse and you've spent nearly twenty minutes combing it to perfection.
"If you keep brushing she'll be bald when she wakes up," Megumi says
You sigh and place the comb back on the little nightstand.
"It's almost as if she's just napping." You observe
"Yeah...weird isn't it?" Megumi agrees
"I hope she wakes up soon. She's already missed so much. If you keep growing she won't even recognize you." You tease
Megumi lets out a grumble but doesn't pull away when you rest your head on his shoulder.
"I hope she's dreaming about something good." You sigh
"...Me too."
December
"Satoru! Long time no see!"
If you could go back in time and tell your 17-year-old self she'd one day be staring at Suguru Geto who was now a curse user, she would've laughed in your face.
And yet, it was happening right now. Geto, your former upperclassman and friend was declaring war and pledging to rid the world of all non-sorcerers.
"The Zenin clan's biggest failure...how interesting that she's being trained by one of their strongest. What's the point in taking in a monkey-like her anyway? She'll never be anything." Geto says
"Watch your mouth, Geto." You growl, "Or have you forgotten I'm a special grade as well?"
"I'd never." Geto grins finally turning to face you.
Geto's eyes lock on yours and Satoru steps in front of you.
"You can leave her and the students out of this, Suguru," Gojo says
His face is a stoic mask as you watch your boyfriend approach his best friend for the first time in 11 years.
"See you at the war!" Geto calls as he disappears into the clouds.
"Are you nervous?" Nanami asked
"What? No. Do I look nervous?" You ask
"You're fidgeting a lot." He points out "You only do that when you're nervous. Just like when we had a big test coming up back when we were in school."
Curse Kento Nanami and his observation skills.
"Hey guys!" Ino points at the sky to a barrage of curses flying overhead.
You have a feeling you should've stretched a bit more.
"Zenin-San!"
Ino is calling your name but where is he? There are two curses to your right, another to your left, and then there's that green one that's flying above you.
"Zenin-san behind you!"
You quickly turn around to see Ino chasing what looks to be an Okapi of some form. It must've escaped him.
"Got it!" You call
Your sword feels good in your hands. It's been a while since you've gotten to use Phantom to its fullest potential.
There are five curses in total. Two are closer together, and the other two are farther apart. The final is in motion and a student is hot on its heels.
The cursed technique, Phantom allows the user to create many versions (Phantoms) of themselves at once. The true body can be as far or as close to these duplicates as they please. The more duplicates that are created, the less control the original user has over them.
One, two, Your first Phantom cuts through the curses like butter
Three- this one's for your main body- that particular slash felt good, you're getting in the groove, now
Four, your Second Phantom is on it,
Five, nice and weak, perfect to kill
Done, they're dead now.
"Wow, Zenin-san. Have you gotten faster?" Ino asks once you're done killing the final one.
"I don't think so. But my duplicates are exceptionally good today. I think it's probably the healthy diet I've been consuming recently." You explain, calling your duplicates back into your self.
"Hey, stop chatting. There's more coming." Nanami scolds
"Yes, sir!" Ino salutes
Satoru's face is blank as he approaches you, Yuta by his side who seems to be thrilled to just be alive.
"Are you okay?" Gojo asks, his eyes scanning for any injuries
He looks distracted like something is weighing on him.
"Geto?" You ask, ignoring his prodding.
You wonder if he had slipped through Gojo's fingers again.
"He's gone. Yuta here gave him a nice ass kicking." Gojo smiles, patting the boy on his back.
He's gone? He couldn't possibly mean...
You look up at your boyfriend who hasn't bothered covering his eyes back up. There's a sadness behind them that you think only you'll notice as Yuta calls out to Maki.
"Gone?" You ask once the boy's out of earshot
"Mmhm...It's alright though. I'll get over it. " Gojo sighs, his gaze fixed on the sunset.
"It'll take time." You say, trying to get just a hint of emotion from the strongest sorcerer's unreadable face.
"I just hope he didn't hate me in his final moments," Gojo admits finally looking at you and you can finally see how devasted he is. Pretty blue eyes that are welling with tears pull on your heartstrings.
"Suguru could never hate you, Satoru. You're an irreplaceable force to everyone, even him. You'll miss him forever and so will he." You assure
"Maybe you're right... I just think that I should've spent more time living with him. We spent more time apart than together, I think I might regret that until I die." Gojo says, voice dripping in regret.
"I like to think that it's not the length of life that matters but the depth of it. It matters how we spend our time together, not how much time we spend together."
I threw the Maki and reader interactions in at the last minute...I hope they turned out okay.

“It’s just… it’s been 16 years since…” Yuuji finds it difficult to put it into words.. “... since he last saw Divine Dog White…”

“Hito, Kiko, don’t.” Noritoshi glares at the twins who have been caught red handed trying to ride atop the pair of dogs. In fact, it’s the 4th time they’ve been caught. They refuse to stop trying. “Just sit, okay? Just sit down for a bit. Let dad make his call.”
Noritoshi Kamo is tired. Truly, soulfully, tired. His day began at 5 am today, because you had to go to work earlier than usual, and are still not back yet. Handling 4 kids and their own separate timetables all day, while working as a teacher for Jujutsu High… at 34, he’s not old, but goddamn does his body ache like it is. And now, when he was looking forward to putting the kids to bed and waiting for you to come back and uncork this good vintage and maybe wear that nice lingerie you bought last week and be asleep by 10 pm, when tonight was supposed to go like all other nights, he’s got a huge fucking emergency on his hands. Not that he can show it, of course, in front of the kids.
“C’mon, pick up, pick up. Asahito! I swear, if I see you– Tsukiko! Tsukiko, hands where I can see them! Good, okay, now sit down and count till 100.” Noritoshi is doing his level best to maintain any semblance of calmness. It isn’t working. Naomi and Chihiro, the older two kids, are terrified. Their usually monk-calm dad is frantically calling people, while his Flowing Red Scale is on, as are two discs of Slicing Exorcisms, ready to strike at the slightest provocation. Not at them, of course, but still. The twins, Hito and Kiko, are too young to realise the gravity of the situation.
Click. Finally.
“Hey Noritoshi, it’s me, Yuuji. Megumi’s driving right now.”
“Yuuji!” Damn, Yuuji thinks, the man seems out of breath. “Give the phone to Megumi, quick.”
‘But he’s driving, we were playing basketball and now we’re coming ba–”
“Put it on speaker then! Yuuji, it’s urgent.”
“Huh? Wait.” Yuuji puts him on speakerphone and gasps. “Oh my God, is y/n pregnant again?”
“What?”
“Damn, that’s your fifth one.” Yuuji chuckles. “You must really like being a dad.”
“It’s not–”
“Five is a lot though –”
“MEGUMI!” Noritoshi shouts out. “Are you there?”
“Yeah” Megumi leans towards the phone that Yuuji is holding out. “Congrats, Noritoshi.”
“Oh, Megumi, thank God.” Noritoshi’s voice is palpably more stable. “y/n isn’t pregnant. The twins’ cursed technique showed up, about 5 minutes ago. Megumi, they have the Ten Shadows.”
Megumi almost crashes the car.

“Noritoshi, love, I’m here!” You’ve run all the way from the parked car to your drawing room. It’s bursting with people: Noritoshi (battle-ready), Naomi and Chihiro (hiding behind their dad), Yuuji (fascinated), Megumi (teaching the twins to release the large black dog that’s running amok amid your fragile china-display and Edo era vases), and your little twins (actually listening to their uncle, surprisingly).
“Mom!” “y/n!” “Honey!”
Half an hour ago, you had been working on a new telecom venture when your assistant rushed in, claiming an urgent call from your husband: “Love, it’s the twins, Hito and Kiko- cursed technique- unstable control- dinner- Ten Shadows!” It takes a while for you to piece together the information, but when you do, you turn pale as death.
The twins inherited the Ten Shadows? Together? They share one cursed technique? They share the fucking Ten Shadows?

The black divine dog was sent back, thanks to Uncle Megumi Fushiguro. “The other one was already gone when we got here.” Megumi says, leaning back as everyone sits in peace around the low tea-table on the ground. Yuuji is playing cards with the boys, Tsukiko sits in Megumi’s lap, steadily stealing extra cookies from the table, and Naomi is quietly talking to her dad. “They summoned the Divine Dogs by accident, don’t punish them for it, okay?”
“I know.” Noritoshi sighs. “I didn’t even know two Ten Shadows users could exist at the same time.”
“It’s very rare.” Megumi replies. “But rare things are common nowadays.” Since the Culling Games. Since it all got messed up. 16 years ago.
“It’s so dangerous for a 6 year old to have the power to accidentally summon Mahoraga. Megumi-chan, what did you do at that age?” You still haven’t kicked the habit of calling him Megumi-chan, even though he grumbles about it a lot, especially since the twins are starting to call him that too.
“Well, I had Gojo-sensei to show me the basics, and then I figured it out myself. But I was a very different 6 year old than Hito and Kiko.” He looks down at Tsukiko who’s trying to hide her growing bundle of cookie-loot. “Maybe it’d be safer if I stay with the kids for a bit…”
The kids are delighted to hear this, of course, Uncle Megumi who lets them get away with anything, and buys them whatever they want, he’s their favourite. (Uncle Yuuji is very hurt by this proclamation).
“Yeah, that’d be great, Megumi-chan. Thanks.” You yawn.
“Say, Hito, Kiko!” Yuuji says. “You called both the dogs? Can you call them again?”
“Now, Itadori?” Noritoshi is still wary. When he first saw the dogs, he almost killed them on the spot, thinking that someone had sent them there to hurt his kids. It had taken a second for light to enter his head: Ah, these are my children’s shikigami. They inherited the Ten Shadows…. Oh my God- my kids inherited the Ten Shadows. “Take the yard outside then, not in here.”
Except for Megumi and the twins, who are working on calling the dogs in the middle of the yard, all of you stand in the veranda. Noritoshi’s Flowing Red Scale is on, ready, just in case.
“It’s just… it’s been 16 years since…” Yuuji finds it difficult to put it into words.. “... since he last saw Divine Dog White… back at the detention center....”
The shadows under the twins have definitely started to hollow out choppily. Megumi shouts out words of encouragement, telling them to “steady, keep steady!”, while you can tell that Noritoshi is growing more agitated by the second. The volatile control over their shared cursed technique seems to shift between the twins randomly. The shadows underneath, like turbulent sea-water, split.
Megumi Fushiguro is no stranger to loss. It’s a fact of his life. He hardened his heart to this a long time ago, he's bid his good-byes properly in private. He’s done his due mourning when Divine Dog White died over a decade and a half ago.
Why does his throat feel tighter? Hito and Kiko are making the huge dogs shake hands with a delighted Yuuji. Why does he remember the damp walls of that old apartment, where his dad left him and Tsumiki? Why does he remember Tsumiki’s laugh when the white dog, invisible to her, tripped her as she walked? Those snowy walks with Gojo-sensei, when he brought all three of them mochi, and an extra one for the dog? Those tired midnights in Jujutsu High when the dog curled around him in his sleep? Nobara and Yuuji, back in their teenage years, begging him to summon his precious dog? Nobara who still remains 16 in his memories. Gojo-sensei. Tsumiki. The White Dog.
If anyone notices a tear stuck in Megumi’s lashes, they don’t mention it. They let him sit on the grass, keeping watch. The overprotective parents have loosened up, allowing Naomi and Chihiro to pet the dogs too. It’s nice, he thinks, everyone getting to enjoy a night like this. It doesn’t come by often. These small moments like playing with the dogs, eating meals together, hanging clothes to dry, taking walks in the setting sun, these are privileges they've earned with blood. Families, especially happy ones, are rare; Megumi’s proud that you and Noritoshi have managed to create one. As for him, he’s content sitting on grass and watching.
“Megumi-chan, come play!” Tsukiko beckons him. “Shiro, go jump on him.”
“Shiro, no–” But these aren't Megumi’s shikigami, they don’t listen to a word he says. He’s immediately tackled on the soft ground by the weight of the white furball, who’s wagging his tail and licking him all over, as excited as the kids to be summoned. They even smell the same, Megumi remembers. Still, mine had softer fur.
Naomi valiantly comes to his rescue. Noritoshi offers him some tea before bed. Him and Yuuji are staying the night, you’ve declared, and keeping watch over the twins. Despite all the loss he’s endured his whole nightmare of a life, at the end of the day, there’s still a family he’s part of. There’s still hope, there’s still love, there’s still soft white dogs.

The battle is over: all 4 kids have been put to bed. Yuuji whistles softly, complaining that Hito wheedled five stories and three lullabies out of him. That reminds him: “y/n, you know when Noritoshi called us, he seemed so stressed, I thought that you were pre-” but Noritoshi whacks him on the head before he gets to finish. Megumi isn’t done entertaining the twins yet.
a/n: timeline wise, this work is set faaar in the future, when the Kamos have returned to and established themselves in Japan. Regardless of the merger, the amount of cursed energy cultivated from the Culling Games have GOT to have fucked up effects on the kids born afterwards, like the remains of nuclear bombs. Naomi is the oldest kid at 13, Chihiro is 10 and the twins are both 6. reader would be 30, noritoshi 34, yuuji 32, and megumi 31. if it was unclear, Asahito and Tsukiko are nicknamed Hito & Kiko

Zenin Maki
💚Despite her tough exterior, Maki is the kind of person who tries her hardest to solve her problems by herself without having to involve someone else. This mindset of hers can be observed in the way she handles her own feelings as well as in the way she treats you. She isn't one to fool herself so of course she is aware of her own feelings and whilst she doesn't show it, she feels ashamed of the way she thinks and feels of around you. Adamant to remain strong and independent though, she refuses to indulge in those longing emotions which results in her initially trying to avoid you. The way you perceive her behavior around you may lead you to believe that she doesn't like you but it is actually the complete opposite. Maki likes you a little bit too much but doesn't want you to be involved as she knows that this isn't really your fault. As headstrong as she is though, sooner or later she has to acknowledge that avoidance doesn't solve her problem.
💚Despite the straightforward attitude of hers that will scold and chastise you whenever you do something stupid, Maki is protective to the marrow of her bones. Especially if her darling is a non-sorcerer who doesn't know about any curses nor and can't fight against them either. She doesn't see the need to let you find out about them either as you live in your own world and she doesn't want to shatter your view of the world. Her work and her private life she spends with you should not mix and on occasions where it does happen, Maki is quite unhappy. She normally doesn't lie to you but the world of sorcerers is one of the few topics where she will keep the truth from you and as long as there is a way to conceal the truth, she will do it. Just because you don't possess Cursed Energy nor have such a strong body as she can is not an excuse for her to go easy on you. She doesn't believe that babying you would do anything for you and you have due to that your fair share of freedom with her.
💚Even if her clan has tried her whole life to drag her down and shame her for her lack of Cursed Energy, their words and insults have never truly broken Maki nor have they scratched her confidence. She has no such insecurities as her twin sister has and is fairly relaxed when you hang out with other people. I do think that she would be more prone to feel jealous if the two of you aren't a thing yet but would feel more inclined to feel possessive if she is your partner at that point already. If you are hers after all, she doesn't have to worry about anything anymore and will be brutally honest and straightforward with the other person who tried to charm you. You are hers so they should just get lost before they embarrass themselves even more. If she is feeling jealous during the time where you aren't hers yet, she is more prone to some passive-aggressive comments and sharp glares, although she is unwilling to admit her true feelings and tries to play it off if someone asks her about it.
💚She draws a clear line with the problems you require her help with or the problems you can solve yourself if you remain stubborn and determined enough. Her own life of constantly standing up for herself has influenced her which is why it is essential to her that you also learn to remain strong against unfair standards and harsh expectations. That said, she is extremely skilled and freakishly strong, especially after having gotten complete possession of Heavenly Restriction. She will defend you against everything you can't fight against such as curses and possibly sorcerers who target non-sorcerers. She doesn't hold back against someone if they charge at her with the intent to kill and judges based on rational observations. The fights she fights for your protection very rarely offer the possibility to let her opponent stay alive and she has never felt particularly inclined to let them keep their lives either. She has already lost Mai. She won't allow anyone else to die from the people she cherishes.
💚An abduction is something she has promised herself to never do as she sees this as a bigger low than killing someone which is more commonly practiced in her profession as a sorcerer. It isn't like Maki is overly paranoid either as she grants you a lot of personal freedom. Abducting you might encourage you to rely too much on her as a result of isolation and she despises the thought of robbing you of your freedom and independence as she stands firm in her belief that even if you don't have any Cursed Energy, you should still be able to handle your own challenges and problems. You are supposed to attend school, graduate and eventually get a job and then earn money yourself whilst Maki will do her own thing to pay her attribute to the shared life. The worst that happens in emergency cases is that she either has you transported to a safe place or that she locks you up in your own home.
💚Panda and Inumaki are teasing the living daylight out of her as soon as they figure out that she has some feelings for you and she can only lash out on them whilst trying to stop the blush from appearing on her face. Yuta is more directly encouraging in his support but she warns all three of them to not band together to set you two somewhat up. She wants to win your heart without any help, even if those people are her friends. Whilst you have no problem introducing her to your friends, it is a tad bit more difficult for her to do the same, especially since a talking and thinking Panda isn't exactly what a non-sorcerer is used to. She isn't a huge fan of any overly sappy dates as she thinks just hanging out together is already more than enough, although she will accept it begrudgingly if you have put a lot of work and effort into a special date.
Zenin Mai
🔫The same experience can influence people quite differently and that is obvious when we look at Maki's younger twin sister. Mai has been forced to become a sorcerer, the very thing she never wanted to become after Maki's betrayal and it has transformed her into a rude and crude person. Whereas Maki allows her darling a lot of freedom, Mai feels an inherent need to have her darling under her control. Maybe it is simply to keep control over at least one thing in her otherwise terrible life where she is always the one who has to obey, something that allows her heart and mind to feel a little bit of peace by knowing that she at least will always be the one with the leash in her hands in this relationship. You are the last person she rely has ever since her older sister broke her promise which has pushed her to be naturally very obsessive and clingy around you, always in the need to know what you are up to and with whom you spend your time with when she isn't around.
🔫She hides her feelings partially though but not because she feels guilty or responsible like her sister does. No, she doesn't show the full extent of her feelings to retain the facade of being in control around you. She can't show any weaknesses, even around you as there is a deep-rooted fear that if she would rely on you, you would leave her too. This time she will play the strong part though and have you rely on her, even if she does it in very rude ways. She likes to put you down and belittle you as soon as you get into troubles and likes to use the shame and guilt of yours to boost her own confidence to convince both of you that she is better and that you need her. Differently from Maki who encourages you to be independent, Mai goes for the exact opposite as she wants you to depend on her. It is all for her own ego so that she can feel better about herself despite her shitty life. If she realises that though, she is far too selfish to stop herself.
🔫Yet her confidence is mainly only for show and for nothing else. Mai feels inferior and insecure deep down which makes her much more paranoid and prone to experience jealousy than Maki who is always laid-back. Jealousy can transform someone into an ugly green-eyed monster and you witness this horrifying transformation with Mai. All of your friends and acquaintances are scared away due to her condescending and snarky attitude as she pushes all of them away from your side, leaving you standing there alone awkwardly. It is a terrible thing to do yet when you try to confront her about it, she reflects all of those accusations back at you and turns the tables quickly. Her words cut into your heart and confidence as she lashes out on you, her judgement clouded by bitterness and paranoia until you have no courage to bring the topic up around her anymore.
🔫She has always been weaker than other people and she knows that yet she would never allow you to find out about any of this. You don't know who she is and maybe you are a non-sorcerer yourself, someone who can't see curses and use Cursed Energy at all which would make you even weaker than her. It isn't something that should bring her as much satisfaction as it does yet Mai needs to feel superior and stronger when it comes to her darling and in such a scenario that would be the case. You don't know about curses yet she might just inform you of their existence simply so that you can be scared and she can play the hero by admitting that she can exorcise them, although she keeps quiet about the fact that she isn't very strong in comparison to other sorcerer though. She just can't let you know that as it would destroy the image she tries to uphold when with you. At least in your eyes she wants to be seen as someone strong and dependable, even if her methods are crude.
🔫Interestingly enough the one freedom she insists you to keep is your ability to have your own home, although her reasoning is more cowardly. She just wants an escape from her own clan and she uses that by occupying your own home as much as she can to escape from the harassment and the discrimination. If you were to ever meet her family, she knows that you would see her for the pathetic girl she is deep down and she is paranoid about that, convinced that you would abandon her too if you were to see how weak she really is. You have the choice to walk away after all. She on the other hand is chained up to a family that doesn't love nor want her, never able to attain her freedom. That is why she keeps your relationship a secret from her clan and always stares you down with such a condescending glare if you dare to ask if you could meet her parents.
🔫She puts you down with her comments, humiliates you and even mistreats you. Mai is a terrible partner but she is too afraid to stop her behavior. Too afraid that if you were to see her for who she really is, you would laugh at her and dismiss her just like everyone else in her clan has done so far. In her mind even her own sister left and it has awakened the impression that she can't even trust those she thinks are closest to her. She is pushy and demanding of love, something she has rarely received from people in her life and possessive to the point where she feels neglected the moment you dare to ignore her for someone else. Perhaps in her eyes her behavior is justified as she has gone through so much already and will have to endure even more so she deserves you. She deserves a person who will only love her and who will never betray her. Even if her words are hurtful and even if she does terrible things to isolate you, she can always tell herself that she isn't the worst person you sometimes blame her to be. Because she is convinced that she has seen worse.
Mei Mei
💴Mei Mei finds her darling rather fascinating. As a non-sorcerer you have on first glance nothing notable on you as you are by all means a rather average person. However, as someone who has only ever expressed interest in money, this is what makes you so interesting to the sorcerer. There is no profit to gain from you nor would you be valuable on a battlefield yet even despite knowing all of that, she finds her gaze constantly drawn to you. Money is the only thing she has ever valued in her life yet you catch her attention in ways that no one has ever done before. As an openly selfish woman who is not afraid of admitting that to other people, Mei Mei indulges in whatever is of interest to her and you are no exception to that. Even upon noticing that her interest is turning into something else, she does not stop herself. She simply doesn't care about it as she has no such things as morals nor does she feel any shame for her obsession. Instead she finds the situation rather entertaining.
💴The only morals she has depend on the money she receives for her jobs yet Mei Mei still seems to have certain standards she likes to present herself with to others. She has the luxury of time and money which allows her to take things slow and easy in regards to you. There is no need for desperation or any haste, she can take her time to get to know you and gauge how you react to her. Her Black Bird Manipulation allows her to keep an eye on you even whilst she is away to earn some money and then there is Ui Ui who would do anything for her, although he expresses some jealousy and outrage for your inability to recognise her true greatness. With her calm and analysing demeanor, Mei Mei oozes with confidence that she will have you for herself one way or another and this can be rather intimidating. Her words targeting your insecurities are like poison that slowly infects you and like the cruel predator she is, she treats it almost as if it were a game and it might as well be.
💴Perhaps it is much more common to be the other way around and this is what Mei Mei would like to see just as much. You pale in comparison to her and you are often reminded of that when you two spend time in public. You feel inferior and almost unworthy in company of such a beautiful and rich woman and whilst Mei Mei is at least not as mean as to encourage your growing jealousy, she never does anything to ease it either. She finds it rather adorable when you turn a tad bit more jealous and possessive after all. She on the other hand doesn't have to overthink as much if it is the other way around. Most people are barely worth of her attention as they would neither have any worth to her life nor to yours. Her voice is always calm and her every gesture dismissive as she expresses her opinion honestly to such people, questioning them for the lack of value she sees in them. Whether her words humiliate someone to tears or fuel someone's anger, she has already won but everyone is free to amuse her for a bit more with their pathetic attitude if they desire to do so.
💴Normally she doesn't lift a finger unless there is profit to make so it truly is a honor and sign of the worth you have to her that she exorcises curses who could be of potential risk of you without any money involved in the first place. Non-sorcerers are not worth her effort and time though as she knows of multiple other ways to take care of such people without having to stain her own hands. That is what money is for after all. Whether she bribes or blackmails someone, money has never failed to do the job for her. Maybe you have a different opinion and will accuse her as a corrupted woman but your view on the world is rather naive. You're pure but qualities such as kindness and honesty have never won a fight before. If you were part of her world, you would have died long ago as only those strong and smart enough to pick their battles wisely reach the top. Luckily you don't have to worry your silly head about anything because you have her to do that for you.
💴Mei Mei is generous enough to offer you the option to move in with her. In her mind it doesn't even matter for how long you have known her by now. The only aspect she cares about is that she has known you long enough by now to realise that you really are too valuable for her to let go of you. Feel free to reject her offer yet be aware that you are already beyond saving. The sly smile on her face when you deny her her question is already a telltale sign of her intentions but she lets you squirm around anxiously for a while, your helplessness a relish in her eyes before she sets things into motion. Your bank account, your home and all of your possessions are stripped away from you, leaving you with little to no choice but to crawl back to her. She's already awaiting you though. You know that she is responsible because she hasn't even made the effort to hide it from you. She has intended for you to know simply so that she can shatter your ideal view on the world to prove that ultimately money rules over everything, even the law.
💴There has never been a moment where she has yelled at you as Mei Mei has never lost her composure before. She retains such an incredible level of control over her which only humiliates and humbles you whenever you lose hold of your temper. Your self-esteem crumbles as her condescending words spoken with such a calm tone make you feel very small in front of her. She gives you the feeling that you are the only one who causes all of the problems. Worst is that all of this is in a way true as Mei Mei really doesn't have to do too much because she knows that you can never escape or run away from her. Are you not tired of those tedious struggles of yours? What is it that you could possibly desire from your old life? She is rich and can provide you with all earthly possessions that many people could only dream of and all she asks of you in return is to stay in her mansion and be her most valuable possession. One that may not be made out of diamonds but gold but holds more value to her heart than all the riches in the world.

Jujutsu Kaisen ~Being called 'darling' by their crush 2nd part~
First part is here. Additionally, Getou's headcanons are set when he was still attending Tokyo Jujutsu High.
Zen'in Maki
He'll be the one least shocked by being called 'darling': he won't blush, he won't stutter, he won't freeze, he'll simply send the harasser away
As soon as the boy is gone, he'll turn towards you and check you over for possible injuries
After checking you out thoroughly, he'll start to wonder if the nickname you gave him is just to chase the harasser away or if you really mean it
He won't force you to answer him, but he'll stay by your side all day, making sure nothing happens to you, and he'll feel a pleasant warmth in his chest the entire time he'll be near you
Every now and then, he'll hear your voice repeat 'darling' in his mind, and a light dusting of red will paint his cheeks
Zen'in Mai
Like Nobara, a sly smile will appear on his face when he hears you call him that
However, as soon as he sees the harasser approaching, he'll put his arm around your waist and say: "Haven't you seen she's busy with me? Leave my girlfriend alone."
After the harasser leaves, he'll abruptly turn away from you to not show you his slight blush and leave
You won't see him all day, but at night you'll receive a message from him saying: "Oi, did you make it home in one piece or are you so weak you need me to accompany you?"
Maybe you won't notice it, but from that moment he'll stay slightly closer to you, especially during missions, and maybe one day he'll be able to tell you he would always want to be called 'darling' by you

He'll immediately understand something is wrong, especially due to your eyes which will be begging for his help, so at first he'll ignore how you called him
Once he realizes the nickname, he'll smile from ear to ear and the tips of these will turn pink, although he won't let you see that
Then, he'll start teasing you ("Since when have I been your boyfriend? I know I'm awesome and handsome, but you should have asked me first.")
He has no shame: he'll proclaim himself your boyfriend and tell you outright he always wants to be called that
In fact, if you don't call him 'darling', he'll pretend you didn't talk to him ("Who were you referring to? I'm darling, not Gojo or Satoru.")

He too will notice something is wrong, so he'll pull you towards him and push you towards his chest
From there you'll be able to perfectly hear the very accelerated beat of his heart and to feel his very slight tremor
After moving away from him, after he sends the harasser away, you'll also be able to see his face: it'll be really red, so much he'll have to cover his face with his hand
That will probably be the event that will push him to confess his love for you
In fact, the next day he'll come to you with a bouquet of roses in his hand and he'll ask you to call him 'darling' again, but as his girlfriend and no longer a friend

Knock knock
“Hey there, pretty girl,” Toji greets in the doorway of his home, stepping to the side for you to enter. “Come on in.”
“Hey Toji.” Your smile grows brighter at the sight of Megumi rushing down the hall into your open embrace. “Happy birthday, ‘Gumi.”
“Thank you,” he mumbles into your shirt. Toji reaches out, freeing up the presents from your hand.
“You came!” a familiar sounding voice shouts with vivid excitement. You match it to Yuji, bounding your way with Nobara at his side like the time before. Megumi pulls away from you, his face beet red with embarrassment.
“Hey, you two. How are you?”
“Good!” They cheerfully drawl out in unison.
Yuji takes Megumi by the hand, leading him back to the sofa where it appears they’re playing Mario Party together. The console’s new, so either someone else brought theirs, or Megumi got to open one of his presents early to play with his friends.
You’re taken aback by how well decorated Toji’s home is, with various ribbons and flags along the walls, on top of blue and green balloons floating along the ceiling. Everywhere you look, there’s something animal themed that’s perfect for Megumi’s big day.
“Thanks for comin’, doll.” Toji’s pulls your attention away from the room, back to him. “You’re making the kid’s day being here.”
“Of course, I’m happy to be here,” you tell him with another smile.
Toji returns your gleeful expression with his own, but it quickly vanishes at the sound of his door knocking, as though he already knows who awaits. He turns to answer it, and in the meantime, you’re approached by one of the other adults present.
“So you must be the girl next-door,” the man says, introducing themselves in a suave manner, “I’m Shiu Kong, a friend of Fushiguro’s.”
“O-oh yeah, it’s nice to meet you,” you reply, suddenly feeling nervous.
“You should know, he talks about you quite a bit–“
“Shiu,” Toji interrupts with a stern tone. He then sighs, “I see you’ve met Megs’ sitter.”
Your look at him with a shocked face. “You’re the babysitter?”
Shiu chuckles, “Wasn’t expecting some grown man, were ya?”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it like that,” you profusely apologize but his laughter continues, even knocking Toji on the shoulder with an open hand.
“Don’t be,” he reassures, “I’d expect some teenage girl too if I heard the word ‘babysitter’, but I’m not upset by it.”
It’s only now that you realize Toji is joined by two younger ─ and female ─ versions of him, save for their hair color bordering on a greenish hue.
Secret siblings of Megumi? No, you’d know that by now, but then again you know nothing about his mother.
You crouch down to greet the two apparent twins. “Hi there, what are your names?”
The one with straighter hair answers first, “Maki,” they answer without much of any emotion.
“I’m Mai,” the other girl says. Her hair is wavier than her sister’s, and slightly darker, making that the only noticeable difference between the two.
Toji puts one hand on the top of their heads, performing his signature ruffling technique honed from years of practice with Megumi. “Go on and play the others,” he says to them.
The two take their leave, heading towards where Megumi is, hand in hand. With the way their exchange is looking, it seems more likely that this is their first time meeting each other. Nobara looks especially thrilled at the sight of some other girls at the party, as she’s already pulling them away to chat amongst themselves.
“Are they Megumi’s cousins?” you ask, looking to Toji.
“Mine, actually.” He shrugs at the questionable look you give him in return. “Don’t ask, it ain’t worth the discussion.”
Well now he’s just purposely leaving you in suspense. Either way, you decide to change the topic to lighten the tense mood, “Did you do all these decorations yourself?”
He snorts, “You kidding? I had no clue they made stores just for parties until he showed me one.” Toji nudges his head at Shiu.
“You should’ve seen the look on this guy’s face when the employee had him trying on party hats to find the perfect one.” Shiu smirks, earning a glare from his friend.
“I’m gonna need a smoke break at this rate,” Toji grumbles.
“Thought you said you were going to quit that habit cause of–“
“I will turn you into a party favor if you continue that sentence,” he warns.
Shiu is unbothered by Toji’s feigned hostility, enjoying the subtle jabs they’re making at each other. “That wouldn’t be very nice on your own kids’ birthday, let alone in front of the pretty lady, now would it?” he teases.
“Shiu, don’t tempt me.”
The sound of your laughter brings both of their attentions to you, “You two are good friends, huh?”
“Do we look like friends?”
“Ouch, I’m hurt.” Shiu jokingly places his hand over his heart. “You’re lucky to have me around outside of business.”
“Yeah, yeah, save the sappy speech for the cake.” Toji waves him off, but you can see a smile pulling at his lips. He may act cold and distant with Shiu, but even you can tell it’s merely a façade. “If you’re hungry, there’s pizza in the kitchen and other snacks by the TV. Go make yourself comfy, doll.”
“Don’t mind if I do, thanks.” You leave the two to chat on your own while you make your way into the kitchen.
There are a few boxes of pizza, each with different toppings or regular old plain, so you grab a plate with whatever is your favorite and head off to join the kids.
Megumi and Yuji are side by side in the center of the sectional, and on the latter’s side is a young looking man who for whatever reason sparks a sense of familiarity in you. You’re not sure as to why because you think you would remember someone with tattoos across their face, but in this case, you don’t. He nods his head in a subtle greeting with you while you sit down on Megumi’s empty side.
No sooner after, a blonde woman who you saw seated here earlier appears, hugging the dark-haired man from over the back of the couch. “Choso!” she sings. Her eyes light up with curiosity like a candle when she sees you. “Who do we have here?” she asks, coming around to your end of the couch.
“Hi,” you tell her your name, “I’m one of Toji’s neighbors.” While you feel less nervous in meeting another woman, your nerves are still evident in your voice.
“Really?” She hums, rubbing her chin in thought. “So tell me… what’s your type of guy?”
“I’m sorry?” You blink.
“If you prefer women, that’s fine too,” she adds with narrowing eyes that scour your face for any reaction. “I ask this of everyone I meet for the first time.”
“Um…” You blink again, turning your head to look at Toji from afar. He catches your stare, glancing between you and the blonde before a knowing smirk crosses his face.
This shared look doesn’t go unnoticed by the woman, as she quickly places a hand down on your shoulder with a nod. “Yup, we’re gonna get along just fine,” she says with certainty. “By the way, I’m–“
“Auntie Yuki!” Yuji interrupts, throwing himself into her lap.
She helps him get situated, his back now flush against her chest. Yuki, as Yuji kindly introduced, wraps her hands around his stomach, erupting the boy with laughter as she tickles his sides. “What is it, Yujipie?”
She eventually relents, allowing him to speak. “Can you please play with us?” he asks, holding out a controller for her to take. “Pretty please…?” Yuji drawls out with puppy eyes.
“Of course I can! Let Auntie Yuki show you all her special moves.” She winks.
You feel your shirt being tugged, causing you to look down to where Megumi keeps looking between you and Yuji with a silent plea.
Is he feeling a bit jealous?
“Would you like to sit up here with me, ‘Gumi?” He nods, crawling up onto your lap to mimic his friend. Once he’s settled, he offers you his controller as well, which you take.
“Ooh, is it time for the adults to face off?” Yuki muses, feeling a competitive spark growing. “You’re up, Choso.”
“Hey!” Nobara raises her voice with a pouting face. “You can’t all gang up on me, that’s not fair!”
“You haven’t looked at the TV since Maki and Mai came over!” Yuji retorts.
Her scowl turns into a blush. “Nuh-uh!” She argues, feeling bashful.
“What’s all the commotion?” Toji catches you off guard with his sudden appearance over the couch from behind you.
“Toji Toji!” Yuji exclaims, “Come play with us!”
“Yeah, come on, old man!” Everyone’s jaw drops at Nobara’s comment. She then runs up to Toji. “Here, you can use mine!”
“’m not that old…” he grumbles, taking the controller from her before moving to the now free spot between you and Choso. “Kids these days,” he scoffs, sitting down.
You try to stifle your laugh, hiding your smile behind your hand.
“Not you too,” he sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose while attempting to hide his own grin. “I’ll just have to prove myself then by getting all the coins and winning.”
“I think you mean stars,” Choso counters with innocent intent, unknowingly making Toji’s case worse as the kids bust out laughing.
Nobara, alongside Maki and Mai, shuffle over to the open area between the couch and the coffee table. The three lean their backs against the couch, happily partaking in the spread of junk food in front of them.
Toji’s suffering doesn’t end, with each turn landing him on the accursed red tiles ─ or worse, Bowser tiles after the lowest of low rolls from the dice. Choso on the other hand keeps striking it big with 10s each time, making it a struggle for Yuji on who to cheer for. Yuki’s doing fairly well herself, making it a point to utilize every item she can get her hands on.
Over the course of the game, you come to find out that Choso is one of Toji’s coworkers, answering your earlier question. Not only that, but he’s also Yuji’s older brother, with Yuki being his girlfriend. He’s around your age, so to have a sibling as young as Yuji is an anomaly in itself, but not one completely unheard of it.
If anything, you’re more curious about Toji’s family tree with him being cousins to a pair of six-year-olds, all while his own son is turning that very age today.
The minigames are as intense as you would’ve expected. Yuki is thrilled whenever she has you on her team, challenging the men to keep up with you girls. If Toji ends up on your team, you can be sure you’re winning that minigame no matter what.
As for Shiu, he’s enjoying all the chances to poke fun at Toji from afar, especially over his competitive nature that butts heads with Yuki. Meanwhile, both Choso and you are simply happy to be there, as are the kids all intensely watching.
By the end of the game, you’re all a bunch of a sweaty messes, even the casual players of the game. It’s hard not to get on the edge of your seat at times to keep up with the two bloodthirsty gamers. Despite the luck or skill of the rest, you end up being the surprised winner of the game in the name of Team Megumi.
“Booo, I was rooting for you, old man,” Nobara quips, huffing her cheeks at him.
“Yeah, sure you were,” Toji replies with a sarcastic tone, ruffling her perfectly shaped bob.
“You might’ve had a chance if you weren’t blowing all the coins you got on useless items,” Shiu remarks, letting out an amused puff of air.
Toji shoots him a glare on his way from the couch into the kitchen. “Who’s ready for presents and cake?”
“Me me me!” Yuji and Nobara cheer, equal in excitement. They take off as fast as their tiny feet will allow to get there first, not that it makes any difference, but they are kids.
Megumi slides off your lap, pulling on your hand to lead you. As for the twins, they’re the last to arrive at the table with Yuki at their side. The two share an expression you know all too well ─ that out of place feeling as though you don’t belong here, and it makes you wonder more.
As far as things are going for you, today’s been fun, but a lot socially. With the holidays near, it’s made an excellent distraction from the typical pattern of loneliness you’ve had for some years now. This time of year used to bring you so much joy and happiness, but now your decorations sit in boxes buried in the closet.
Yuki’s charisma reminds you of Satoru, both with a unique and unmatched sense of humor that is pleasantly inviting. Choso appeared more serious at first, but once you got to know him better, you found him to be quite down to earth and more relatable than you could’ve ever imagined. The two of them hold a lot of love for Yuji; he’s lucky to have such good figures in his life watching over him.
Megumi takes up his designated seat at the head of the table, glaring at Toji while he does his best to make the party hat fit properly over all his son’s spiked hair. Megumi now looks more like a unicorn than a kid celebrating his birthday. Everyone else at the table puts on their own hats to match, cheering for the boy as he starts to unwrap his gifts.
“Wait, wait ─ fuck,” Toji groans, fiddling with a phone in his hands. You realize upon closer inspection that it’s not his usual phone, but rather a brand-new one.
“You okay?” you ask, delicate with your tone to not offend. A habit you learned early on in your youth.
“What the hell is a panorama?” Toji clicks his tongue. “Why isn’t this shit working?” He further complains.
“I’m starting to think we should start checking your hair for grays, Fushiguro.”
“Shiu, I am never inviting you to these again.”
“Play nice, boys,” Yuki teases, joining the banter.
“Here, let me…” You lean into his space, swiping your finger across the screen to the appropriate setting. “…there. Did you just get this recently?”
“Gotta keep up with your online posts somehow.” He grins with impish delight, savoring in the flustered expression that blooms. “Go on then, Megs. You’re up.”
With that, Megumi begins tearing into his presents ─ albeit in a calm manner. Most kids leave nothing but shreds behind, but Megumi is the type to unwrap his presents wherever there’s tape, keeping it clean and intact. Through it all, he’s smiling away with childlike wonder.
The gifts he receives vary from person to person, with a few being games for his new console, animal themed legos, and some other toys. From you, he gets some National Geographic books on zoology paired with a large, black and white wolf plush with the name “Totality” written on the tag.
Books, especially nonfiction ones at that, are a gamble for this budding six-year-old. You figure it acts like a picture book paired with factual knowledge here and there, and if he already likes documentaries, then he might enjoy some books on it too. With the way his eyes light up, it’s safe to say he’s more than happy about it. So much so, that he hops off his chair, running to embrace you in full.
“Thank you, Mama,” he murmurs just loud enough that between the awing of everyone in the room, it’s still clearly audible.
It’s the pink elephant in the room you’ve tried not to think about so far ─ that is, the absence of his mother from the celebration of his birth. Whether intentional or not, Megumi’s continuous hold on you seals the deal of the only possible reasoning for his words.
There is no mother in his life.
You’re not quite sure what to even say, merely letting your hand do the talking by gently soothing with back-and-forth motions over his head. What’s worrying to you isn’t so much his sudden declaration, but rather how his true father who’s recording all of this will react. You can only imagine the look on his face, hopeful that he isn’t mad or upset with you.
“Cake time!” Yuji cheers, cutting through the palpable tension in the room.
Toji and Shiu shuffle off together to the kitchen first, while the rest of you stay behind at the table. Megumi returns to his chair, babbling with Yuji and Nobara who have their forks in hand, ready as could be. Yuki and Choso start to clear the table off to make room, so you opt to help them to clear your mind.
“Hey, are you alright?” Yuki whispers to you when you’re away from everyone else.
You give her a weak smile in response, making it appear like everything’s fine, even if your voice betrays you. “Y-yeah, wasn’t expecting that is all.”
“It’s a good thing, no?” she questions, and by all means, she’s right but…
“It is! I’m happy, but…should I be?” you sigh.
“Of course you should, this is a huge step!” she argues, silently shouting triumphantly for you. “I remember when Yuji started calling me his mom,” she chuckles fondly, “It took a while to explain what aunts are since he only has an uncle, but Cho and I were so happy about it.”
You wonder for a moment about Yuji’s own home situation in comparison to Megumi. It’s likely given her words that Choso is as much of a guardian as he is a brother to him.
“I can’t help but worry whether Toji’s as happy about it as I am,” you admit, feeling pained by the thought of this changing everything for the two of you.
“I wouldn’t worry,” Choso suddenly whispers from behind you. “You’d be surprised what he’s thinking.”
Before you can even ask him what he means, Shiu calls out for everyone to gather back at the table. Upon your return, you spare a glance at Toji, sharing an awkward few seconds of eye contact that don’t tell you much of how he’s feeling.
He turns his attention back to the cake, placing it down in front of Megumi. Shiu takes over with recording, as you all begin to sing happy birthday while Toji lights the six candles.
It’s an adorable sheet cake, perfect for Megumi’s whole animal themed party with tigers, snakes, owls, and so much more made up of a rainbow of icing colors.
“Make a wish, Megs,” Toji encourages his son who thinks long and hard before puffing out his cheeks and blowing all the candles out. The clapping and cheering intensifies the redness of his cheeks as the star of the show.
“Picture time.” Shiu grins, using Toji’s phone to capture everyone’s smiling faces around the birthday boy. There are shots with everyone, just the adults, the kids, and then right when it’s about to be father and son, he stops you, “Hold on, let me get one of you three now.”
You stand nervously off to the side until Toji’s hand comes around to your shoulder, tucking you closer to him. “Is this okay?” you mumble to him.
“’Course it is, sweetheart.”
Okay well he’s not mad given the use of that nickname, but it doesn’t tell you he’s happy either.
“Alright, now smile this time, Dad.” Shiu puts on a teasing tone, snapping a dozen photos before giving a thumbs up of approval.
It’s proving difficult for Megumi not to cry at his cake being cut. The usually calm demeanor of his threatening to fall apart at the sight of the iced animals being cleaved by the knife and served to everyone to eat. Whether that’s the reason he avoids eating the icing around the fluffy interior, or if he’s simply just not a big sweets fan, it’s hard to say.
The festivities continue for a while after, with all the kids enjoying some of the new toys together. When it comes time for everyone to head out, it’s easy to see their hearts break.
Yuji does his best to keep himself composed, but he wants nothing more than to stay and have a sleepover so that the fun can’t end. Nobara, while she doesn’t let her dismay show, you can see it in her eyes when her parents, Saori and Hiromi Higuruma, arrive to pick her up. Shiu’s the next to leave, but as of right now, he’s busy chatting with Toji by the door, leaving you with the remaining children.
Mai comes up to you, taking a seat beside you on the couch. “Is it true you’re a model?”
“It is,” you reply, clicking together a few pieces of the legos Megumi has you building with him.
“Does that mean you’re on TV?” she asks, and you can see the stars forming in the pools of her eyes.
You let out an amused breath. “It can, but I’m not. I am in magazines though,” you tell her.
“I wanna be on TV someday,” she reveals with hopeful confidence. “An actress!”
“You do, huh? That’s an exciting dream.” You look over to her twin who’s sitting on the other side of you, munching away on a bowl of chips. “How about you, Maki? What’s your dream?”
She shrugs, seemingly uncaring to the idea. “Don’t have one.”
That’s odd, you think to yourself. What kid doesn’t have a lofty goal in mind for the future? From the start you’ve had your worries, not because of their behavior ─ which has been good to say the least ─ but why they act more distant than a normal six-year-old would.
What is their life at home like?
The front door opens and closes, signaling Shiu’s departure. Toji strides back into the room, yawning while scratching the back of his head. He falls into the corner of the couch on Maki’s end, reclining into the cushions with a tired exhale.
“You have a good day, kid?” He nudges Megumi with his foot while he speaks.
Megumi brushes off the action with his hand, shooting him a sharp look that no sooner turns to a blush. “…The best.”
“That’s good.” Toji returns Megumi’s look with one of endearment. You yourself feel happy as well knowing you contributed to Megumi’s special day. “Why don’t you and the girls go get ready for bed and then we can watch a movie, or whatever you’d like?” he muses.
“’Kay,” Megumi drawls. If it weren’t for the movie suggestion, he would’ve had some complaints about being told his birthday is essentially over. Nevertheless, he and the twins disappear down the hall.
The tenseness from earlier returns, heightened by the fact you’re now alone together. For the first time in a few weeks, you feel your old self crawling back up. The longer silences envelopes you both, the more you desire to act on your flight response in order to protect yourself from any hurt feelings.
“Hey–“
“So–“
You both speak in unison, interrupting each other. Seems you aren’t the only one feeling weird after all.
“Sorry,” you nervously laugh.
“Don’t be, you go first,” he insists, waiting patiently for you to talk once you muster up the courage to do so again. Trying to leave now just became a whole lot more difficult.
“Uh…so the twins are sleeping over, I assume?” you instead opt to say.
“Yeah, I have them for holidays,” he tells you with a hint of vexation.
You make a confused face in response. He seemed to like the twins earlier, why else would he have them here? “You’re not happy about it?” you inquire.
“The girls are fine; they aren’t the issue.” He waves his hand dismissively, throwing his head back to stare at the ceiling. “It’s my piece of shit family that is. All of them ─ rotten to the core.”
“You don’t seem so bad to me,” you reassure, evidently making him feel the slightest bit better when you notice the corner of his lip moving upwards.
Toji admits, much to his chagrin, “You don’t know the half of it, sweetheart. The only things we have in common are blood, bad habits, and wishing the other didn’t exist.”
“Well, I’m no stranger to that either…” He snaps his head in your direction with a stern face, nothing negative directed at you. As much as you could go on and trauma bond with him, you refrain from doing so. “But I can say for sure that you’re nothing close to rotten, Toji.”
There’s a beat of silence before he speaks again, “You have my late wife to thank for that,” he finally reveals, answering the question you’ve been dying to know.
Late wife.
“…Megumi’s mother?”
He nods slowly.
“Meeting her was the turning point in my life.” His eyes then shut, as if embracing a distant, yet fond memory. “I’ve done a lot of dumb things in life I regret, but the day I ran away to be with her was never one of them.”
He pauses briefly, his eyes fluttering open, back to the present. There’s an unmistakable glint of sadness now visible to you. Whatever loss had occurred took a large piece of him with it.
“She changed me, made me a better person ─ made me want to be a better person.” His voice now carries a somber tone to it, grieving alongside a hollowed expression. Only now do you realize that in the time you’ve known Toji, this is the first time he’s ever been so vulnerable around you.
A few minutes ago, your mind was urging you to run, already assuming you would meet the worst outcome if you didn’t ─ a bad end.
It pains you, especially now that you’re seeing a glimpse into his own world of hurt. Issues you knew nothing about, feelings he’s locked away. It’s easy to get caught up in all your own emotions until you’re shutting everyone else out to protect yourself, but you’re also not the only one.
How cruel you feel for things out of your control and how you react.
“Once I knew what I felt was love, I married her right away.” He holds his left hand up, looking to the empty spot around his ring finger. “She was already pregnant at the time, but even if she wasn’t, it wouldn’t have changed a damn thing.”
“You don’t have to keep going if it’s hard, Toji, I don’t mind,” you say to bring him some comfort. You reach for his slight trembling hand as well, grounding him with your touch.
You debate whether that’s the right move or not in this situation, but when he held yours as you felt everything come crashing down, it made you feel better. So why not return the kindness this time?
He doesn’t seem to mind the action, and in fact, works it so his hand is holding yours. His thumb moves absentmindedly across your palm, the rough pad smoothing out as he calms down.
“I was terrified of becoming a father. I never thought I should be one after the life I’ve lived, but she kept trying to convince me otherwise,” he admits. “Never could’ve predicted that I’d be the one raising him all alone. Ironic, isn’t it?” he chuckles mirthlessly.
“Take care of Megumi, okay?” the promise echoes in his mind.
“She passed away right after giving birth with our blessing still in her arms.”
Your vision glosses over with fresh tears that are pooling. “Toji, I am so sorry.”
Logically, he should be the one crying his eyes out over this grief, but instead, it’s you. Despite your best efforts to contain your emotions, how can you not feel for him and all the pain he’s gone through?
But there’s one crucial detail he’s forgetting.
You trade places once more with his hand, squeezing tight like he’s your lifeline ─ and in a way, he is.
“Don’t forget what you told me.” He raises a brow at this. “Just like how I’m not alone with you around in my life, neither are you,” you counter, trying to maintain as stern a voice as you can through tears that shatter it.
Toji smiles at the gesture, and it’s like watching the life return to his eyes in real-time.
“You should know, I’m not upset about the kid calling you ‘mom’. He needs a mother figure in his life, and I couldn’t ask for anyone better than you.”
With that, you feel the light shining your way this time, pushing the darkness away with words of affirmation. Even if it inevitably draws out the final burst of tears from within you, you’re happy.
As you part your lips to speak, the boy in question comes bounding back into the room, right onto his father’s lap. You’re quick to wipe off your face, making it appear as though nothing had happened in his absence.
“Hey Megs.” Toji flips him around, pulling Megumi’s back flush to his body.
Maki and Mai follow after, reclaiming their original spots on either side of you. You help them get comfy with some throw pillows and a blanket overtop your legs.
“What movie do you wanna watch? Your choice,” Toji asks, grabbing the remote for the TV.
“Ice Age!” Megumi replies, raising his hands in the air to showcase his eagerness. “With the dinosaurs!”
“You got it, birthday boy.”
“Hey, speaking of birthdays…” You glance over at Toji who’s already making a face. He knows exactly what you’re about to ask, and he can’t say he’s a fan of it. “…when’s yours?”
“I’m an ‘old man’,” he drawls mockingly, rolling his eyes for the added effect. “Mine doesn’t mean anything.”
“Don’t say that, either of those things,”you scold, giving him your best pouting expression. “You’re not old, and it’s another year you’ve gotten to live and enjoy life.”
Ironic coming from someone with intrusive thoughts and ideations.
He sighs, still refusing to answer as you begin a silent stare down with each other. After some thought, he finally tells you, “…the 31st.”
You blink, lips stretching into a fine line.
“Toji.”
“Yeah?”
A pause.
“That’s in nine days.”
“Sure is.”
Another pause, and then the two of you bust out laughing amongst yourselves. All three of the kids look at you both like you’re crazy before returning their gaze to the movie now playing.
“Looks like I have some last-minute shopping to do then,” you muse over the possible ideas.
“Oh please, don’t start,” he groans. “I don’t need anything.”
“Well, too bad. I’m getting you something whether you like it or not.” You place your hands overtop the twins’ hair, a habit you’ve come to pick up the longer you’re around Toji. “Besides, these girls are going to be here for Christmas, so I want to do something for them.”
The two look shocked upon hearing your words, but a subtle redness settles over their features when they realize you’re being genuine with them.
You all enjoy the duration of the movie together, like one big hapy family, without a care in the world. It’s been a rollercoaster of a day with a whole new insight on Toji’s life. As satisfied as you are to finally have an answer to the big question, it’s left you with several more, courtesy of your doomsday mindset.
Does he still harbor feelings for her, long after her demise?
Are you even worthy enough to fill that empty space in their hearts meant for a mother or a lover?
Then comes the question you often ask yourself in your darkest moments ─ do you even deserve this?
Do you yourself deserve to be loved by another?

This chapter was one of my toughest ever to write with how many characters I had to keep track of - balancing conversations/emotions between actions and descriptive text. It was a good but tough learning process, and I really hope you guys enjoyed it!!!
I doubt I’ll ever touch up on it in the future, but yes, our favorite lawyer is Nobara’s stepdad :) her mom (dubbed saori kugisaki for last name purposes) is her bio mom, and is the same saori she meets as a kid in the canon. I thought it’d be fitting for the two, and I’ve seen other fics make Hiromi her father, so I figured why not! Nobara deserves a happy family too <3
Lastly, for some fun author lore, I had a green 3d dragon cake for my 8th birthday party and I SOBBED my eyes out in front of both my family and my four guests because I thought the dragon would be upset and hate me for eating it… as for my birthday today, I’m doing a spongebob themed cookie cake in honor of turning 25 as per the boating school episode :3

There were of course highs and lows as with any relationship.
But the both of you moved past them with a bit of hard headed determination and a lot of the two of you being the two of you.
And this of course led to the inevitable that everyone could see from a mile away except you two.
Marriage, the merging of the last of the Zenin clan and your own family.
It was something that neither of you ever expected to happen while everyone else had money on how long it would take before one of you popped the question.
Of course Gojo won that bet, even from beyond the grave, but he’s not important right now.
So now the two of you are married.
And the both of you were being very, very, very stiff around one another.
It was worse than when the both of you started dating.
All because the both of you had a question they wanted to ask the other.
A question that sat between the both of you like a loaded gun.
A question that you were the first to ask.

“Maki…” You began to say before trailing off while the both of you lazed about on a slaw day while the rain was beating against the building.
“Yeah?” Maki tentatively asked, already knowing the question about to be asked and still not knowing how she would answer it.
“What’s your thoughts on having kids?”

Maki’s world screeched to a halt as she turned the question over and over in her head.
“What did she think about having kids?”
It was never something she thought about.
Never something she ever considered to be possible.
And yet now that she had been asked the question she had to decide if she wanted to have one.
It was something she could answer easily.
Yes, she’d love to have kids with you, and raise them with you.
But there was more to it than that.
There was…
No, they weren’t here anymore, she was free of that place.
And if there was one thing she’s learned from you it's this.
Don’t just think, feel too.
So Maki did exactly that and answered your question in the only way she knew how.
With her whole being.

Inumaki was concerned about Maki.
Sure she could probably slap a curse and kill it but still… She was a friend.
A friend who hasn’t come to training in quite a while.
Which for anyone else would be perfectly fine.
But Maki wasn’t other people, she was Maki.
Training was what she did for fun.
And Inumaki wanted to know why she wasn’t coming to training and why she was always sleeping or eating weird foods.
Well, weirder foods than usual that is.

Inumaki slipped behind the corner as you and Maki talked.
“-you okay?” You asked the muscular woman.
“Yeah, just tired, and nauseous, why the fuck does growing a kid make you feel like you’ve just gotten off a damn roller coaster?” Maki asked with a groan while leaning on the wall.
Meanwhile, Inumaki was having his world flipped on its head at the sudden information he had been given.
Maki Zenin, the strongest woman he knows bar none, is pregnant with your kid.
And he just figured this out because he stuck his nose where it shouldn’t have been.
He needs to run, and fast.
Really, really, REALLY fucking fast.

Inumaki’s current train of thought could be most accurately described as “Oh god, Oh fuck, Oh god, Oh fuck.”
And it was for good reason considering what he just learned.
He prayed to god Maki wouldn’t kill him if he accidentally let it slip.
Oh who was he kidding, she absolutely would.
Inumaki burst into the faculty room where his friends minus Maki sat.
“Whoa! What's wrong with you, Toge!?” the large ball of fluff known as Panda asked.
And without thinking, the white haired man exclaimed “SALMON ROE!”
He then slapped both his prosthetic and his real hand over his mouth as dread overtook him.
Meanwhile everyone in the room looked like Inumaki had just pulled the pin on a grenade and tossed it.
Mai
Mai Zenin sat on the couch, devouring her fifth bag of chips from a bowl that was placed on her swollen belly.
“You're a hungry little shit ain’t ya?” Mai affectionately asked the small human growing inside of her.
Mai was not expecting a response when she asked this but she got one in the form of the baby kicking.
For the very first time.
“…Oh.” Was all Mai was able to say as a flood of emotions overwhelmed her.
Mai was someone who never let out what she was feeling.
It was something she learned from when she was young.
A tool for survival.
But now she had no need to use it.
Her life was filled with friends, with family, true family.
She had a life filled with love, with everything she could want plus more.
She even had you, one of the most powerful living sorcerers as the one who loved her.
And now, even more was about to be added to this dreamlike life of hers.
A child, one she wouldn’t let go of even if she was dead.
A human that would receive as much love as Mai could offer.
A human that would receive as much love as you could offer as well.
A human that wouldn’t have to fear what she did, not only because the Zenin were gone, but because Mai would simply never allow that to happen.
That is the promise she made to the child growing inside of her in that exact moment.
That is the promise she made to her child, the one that she would raise and support, no matter what.
Nobara
Nobara held her daughter in her arms, looking into her sleeping face with her one good eye.
It was a surreal experience.
“Ya know you were a lotta trouble to bring out here right? How the heck are you so dang peaceful now?” Nobara whispered the question before turning her face to look at you a few feet away from her, sleeping in a chair, your arms crossed, but more than ready to turn any cursed spirit that tried to show its ugly mug into ground beef.
“Prolly cause of your dad, he always had a good poker face, though it was probably a good thing Yuji got to that Mahito guy before he did, If what I’ve heard bout’ that warpath he was on after I got taken out of commission and his domain expansion is to be believed he would’ve turned the entire area into one of those crazy things that M.C. Esher guy made.” Nobara muttered to herself before looking back at her child.
Her Child.
Nobara turned the phrase over and over in her head.
Didn’t quite make sense to her yet.
This small, tiny little thing in her arms came from you and her.
This little girl was the very manifestation of the love you and Nobara shared.
A physical manifestation of everything you and Nobara went through to reach this point.
It was something she needed to wrap her head around, though her heart was more than already there.
She could already tell that this little girl was going to be the greatest part of her life with you.
And she couldn’t wait to get that life truly started.
Miwa
You, Miwa, and a small, little boy dressed for school walked side by side on the street.
“I’m gonna make so many friends!” the small boy exclaimed, pumping his fist into the air, copying his fathers excitable nature.
“Oh I know you will, ain’t that right Kasumi?” You asked your wife and the love of your life.
Miwa turned her eyes down to her son and then raised her eyes to yours.
Eyes that were filled with sadness.
“Of course, our little boy will be the most popular boy in school.”

You and Miwa waved goodbye as the two of you walked away from the school.
“Heh, pretty sure that teacher thought we were Yakuza.” You said with a chuckle.
“If you started to wear your clothes right she might not get that impression.” Miwa said with a slightly teasing tone that held a sadness within.
“Sigh What’s up with you Kasumi? You’ve been acting weird since this morning.” You asked your wife in concern.
“It’s no-” Miwa began before being cut off by you saying “Don’t say “It’s nothing of concern” Kasumi, I can tell when something is wrong with you.”
Miwa was silent for a moment before trying to say something, but stumbling all over her words “It’s… I… schools and… and curses…”
“Don’t worry Kasumi, curses aren’t going to go after him, not with the both of us around.” You told your wife in an attempt to soothe her.
“B-but what if-” Miwa began before you wrapped your arm around her, pulling her close to you and saying.
“We can’t worry about what if’s, we won’t be able to protect him from everything, it's impossible to do that, but we can do everything we can while we are here for him to lean on. As long as we love him and as long as we do our utmost to protect him from everything we can while steering him right, that’s the best we can do. I know you want to keep him away from the things that took our friends but we can’t, all we can do is what we can do. I’m just as afraid as you are but being afraid won’t do anything, doing what we can will.”

A large, warm hand massaged the delicate stretch between your thumb and forefinger.
Gently. Leisurely. Daintily.
Vanilla and cinnamon notes entered your lungs with every inhale, a velvetiness akin to everything you imagined clouds to be like if brushing against your cheek, the comforting sensations bringing back nostalgic memories from the carefree times your heart longed to return to.
Was this Heaven? you wondered in this dark and dreamy daze.
You would not mind staying in this state eternally if that meant the promise of peace and quiet forever.
A voice, not from yourself, dispersed your thoughts.
“Suguru, what are the chances she won’t ever wake up?”
Wake up?
Oh, so you were just asleep.
“Shut up, Sukuna,” another person quipped, this tone more leveled and coarser than the last. “Don’t say shit like that.”
The first person, who must be Sukuna then, chuckled lowly to himself. “Oh, who would’ve thought? Choso is having a soft spot?” he marveled with great interest, “Since when did you care so much about—”
But a third voice interrupted the banter. “She’s awake.”
After a long struggle, your eyes fluttered open to see a crowd gathered around you. Immediately beside you was Suguru Geto. He had been the one nestling your hand, but he practically didn’t look like himself with the concern etched into his brow, replacing the cheerfulness in his typical visage. Behind him stood Sukuna and Choso. The former grinned with fierce satisfaction, while the latter…scowled at you?
To be fair, Choso always scowled at you.
“Good evening, gorgeous.” Geto greeted with a melancholic smile, giving you another squeeze, firm and encouraging. Like a true gentleman, he helped you sit upright, his other hand reaching over your head to brush aside some stray strands by your forehead. “Are you feeling okay?”
Exhaustion, meanwhile, rattled you to the bone.
You were weak, your movements fragile, almost like you were a fawn in her first hours of life. You blinked rapidly while taking in the new environment, only to quickly recognize the gray and cream colors in your surroundings. Back at Toji’s apartment was where you found yourself, with the familiar spiced floral scents from the flickering candle nearby confirming that this was the master bedroom.
Given the dull throb by your temples, you frowned.
“What—?” your voice came out as a hoarse rasp. “What happened?”
The trio traded looks at each other with communicative eyes.
In the end, Choso tucked his hands into his front pocket and took the initiative to speak.
“You were in the Zenin residence with Mai and Maki, remember?” No, not really.“Got into an argument with your husband. Started having a panic attack. Collapsed. Puked.”
Oh…
Recollections from your last conscious moments flooded your head like a tsunami: the screaming, the crying, and the fighting. Loud, angry, bitter fighting.
Fighting for your dignity. Fighting for your heart. Fighting for your life. Goodness gracious. As much as the memories sucked all life from you, you instead felt completely…numb.
After all, you had already been dead on the inside. You were too worn out, both physically and emotionally, to react. Everything that you had to go through since your wedding had brought you to your wit’s end, and this recent altercation with Naoya Zenin was truly the icing on the cake.
When you caught sight of yourself in a nearby mirror, you could hardly recognize yourself. Your expression, glum. Your lips, chafed, Your face, pallor. Absent of any other color than an ashen hue.
“How…did I get here?”
“Mai and Maki got worried and called Toji, who told them to bring you here,” Sukuna answered this time. “You’re lucky the girls reacted fast, else we would have sent you to an emergency room. Suguru even stopped his shift at his clinic to watch over you.”
“I—,” you sighed, lost for words and dropping your tired gaze to the floor. Dealing with inner turmoil to this degree was more than what any sane person could handle. All efforts towards your happiness were in vain anyway, as the cosmos conspired to make your existence one neverending nightmare. Everyone else had their ambitions and shit to deal with, but here you were as an absolute nuisance to the people who should not be otherwise pestered, and you were ashamed for the unnecessary trouble that you had caused. “Gosh, this is embarrassing.”
“We are so sorry!”
Unexpectedly, the apology came from a girl’s voice, and you had to turn around to see three familiar teenagers by the bedroom door.
Just last week, you would never have imagined ever seeing Mai, Maki, and Megumi together. Yet, here you were, watching the twins and their—technically speaking—nephew (cute) standing side-by-side, twiddling their thumbs in their nervous corner (also cute).
Flustered and prepared for admonishment, Mai bowed her head at a slight angle as she hurriedly explained, “We don’t…We don’t mean to put you in an awkward position. We just didn’t know what to do. Maki and I were worried when you fell to the floor and started throwing up. We…We should’ve asked for your permission on who to call for help. But we didn’t know who else to phone, so we ended up dialing Toji. Now, we’ve put you in a weird spot and that is all our fault—”
“Do not apologize. That was the right thing to do.” The comment came from yet another person, and when Sukuna and Choso stepped to the side, who you saw at the room’s furthest end was none other than Toji Fushiguro himself.
He had taken a seat all the way by the wall, with one leg thrust over the other in a relaxed but kingly sort of manner. With his sleeves rolled up, his forearms bled to his wrists with ink, and the emeralds in his sharp gaze gleamed as he stared pointedly in your direction.
Of everyone in the room, his countenance appeared the most composed, but you could feelhim reading through the emotions present on your face. He inclined forward, resting his elbow on his knee and his chin on his palm.
When he noticed the slightest shift in your posture too, the tiny scar by his lips flexed along with a smile.
“So, you’ve figured me out, hm?”
Easily, you could sense all seven pairs of eyes in the room (the four therapists plus the three teens) landing on you. The sudden attention rendered you nervous. Even if you chose silence as your response, the entire room, the entire planet, and perhaps even the entire galaxy could speculate your answer through your expression alone.
After a long while, you breathed out, “You didn’t tell me that you were a Zenin.”
The elephant in the room had to be addressed obviously, and you were not shy to confront the situation head-on.
While you did not intend to sound accusatory, your tone came off as such anyway. How could you not, when you had essentially been misled for weeks? Sure, Toji probably did not want to be badmouthing the Zenins to the very person (you) who had been recently married into the family. But, by withholding the fact that he and your husband were cousins, Toji had created much unnecessary anguish including the current limbo that your marriage was in right now.
Meanwhile, that same man pressed his nails into his chin in contemplation.
“I am not a Zenin, though,” he eventually corrected in a domineering voice, all austere in his throne. “At least, not any longer. I took my first wife’s last name years ago. I go by Fushiguro now.” Curt, direct, and pithy. Toji wasted not a syllable. “Everything worked out though, I guess. Naobito cut me off from the Zenin clan earlier this year. Gave me ten billion yen and told me to get lost, so I did.”
Toji always kept his private matters to himself, but with everything that he had gone through, you were struck by his poise, as if being expelled from such an influential household had been a high-school breakup he had gotten over long ago.
Nonetheless, you wondered if he missed that other life, and you brought your knees toward your chest.
“So,” how should you put this, “you’re not upset?”
Toji scoffed immediately.
“Upset?” A bitter grin spread off his lips. “Why would I be upset? That household is a trash dump. All my life, there were no choices for me to make when my uncles and granduncles decided everything already,” and he began counting with his fingers, “my teachers, my classes, my extracurriculars, my friends. Everything. I was only a puppet to bring honor to the family name, bring in money for the company.”
Listening to his sonorous voice, you rested your cheek onto a knee.
"I see."
His story was depressing, and from conversations with in-laws such as Mai and Maki, you knew that he was not lying, either. Coming from nobility as well, you were also aware of the pressures that came with the people who boasted their 'old-money' statuses, but the Zenin household had always been notorious for being miserable.
Toji had said so before in a prior discussion, how ‘family isn’t family for something like the Zenins’ because both politics and business took precedence.
Then, he went on.
“Some people would kill to have my problems, but I did not want that life, you know? Around the time I started college, I decided that I wanted to make judgments for myself and be my own distinct entity, but that made people upset. Privileged. Entitled. Ungrateful. Whatever. My family members called me many things as a young adult when they figured I did not want to be their pawn for my whole life, with the only person who understood me for many years being my best friend in university.”
Megumi’s mom.
Toji nearly appeared to be an altogether different person whenever he spoke about his first wife. The chartreuse in his eyes would stir with both sorrow and fond reminiscence as he thought about the Mrs. Fushiguro you would never get to meet, his closest confidant whom he lost to the cruel separation brought by life versus death. She must have been someone whom he valued a lot—a person who completely transformed him—as Toji had discarded his last name (which was Zenin, of all things) for hers.
‘He truly loved my mom,’ Megumi explained before. 'He had given up everything.’
Thus, fate could truly be unfair.
The loss and pain Toji must have endured, a topic Megumi had alluded to in his discussion with you before.
Not to mention, the expectations, frustration, and suffocation that came from the clan's elders, too. Experiencing the intense atmosphere in the Zenin household firsthand allowed you to empathize with him. Given the stark differences between him and your lawful husband, there was no wonder Toji did not wish to deal with his older relatives' high-strung conventions.
But, if he had been suffering so much…
“Why did you care so much for what your family thought?” you asked, disregarding the look that the three teenagers by the door exchanged with each other. “Toji, you went to university in the United States. You had a wife and son at a young age. You went from a business background to a licensed therapist, so why did you not—”
“Leaving is difficult when you’re the family heir and the corporation’s CEO.”
The expression that you then returned was blank.
Huh?
His words triggered something in your head, so you repeated after him.
“Leaving is difficult when,” and your voice trailed off, “when…you…are the heir and CEO.”
Heir. CEO.
Zenin.
Toji.
Naoya.
But Toji’s older.
‘Naoya got into a huge dispute with him earlier this year.’
Sheer realization slapped you hard across your face. No way.
“Toji,” you began after letting the revelation sink into you a while later, but your voice barely eeked above a mumble, “so you were once the successor to the Zenin household and company?"
The man in question did not respond, but the silent affirmation from the six other onlookers was an answer in itself.
Yes.
In hindsight, you wanted to say you had always seen the possibility. Still, you never fully registered this until now: the thoughtfulness in his strategy, the sophistication in his speech, the charisma in his leadership.
Previously, Toji had impressed you with how much he knew about the Zenin Corporation’s market share in the Asia-Pacific or the firm’s outsized influence on the international stage. Yet, most (including yourself) would not guess that someone like Toji Fushiguro—your tattooed and brawny sex therapist (plus single dad)—had once been heralded as the indisputable inheritor to the proud lineage and conglomerate.
That had been your mistake.
Toji was more than what people made him out to be, which reminded you to never assume anything superficially about someone—a remark he had once made. For good reason, because he had been referring to himself all along.
You could almost visualize Toji Fushiguro as the seasoned executive he had once been in light of this new information: his black strands slicked into a side part, his charcoal blazer freshly pressed, his leather oxfords newly polished.
Maybe because he was more mature or maybe because he was simply older, but Toji appeared more fitting for the important roles in the Zenin household compared to the man presently poised for succession.
Consequently, you must also ask, “Then, how did Naoya end up in your seat?”
Sukuna and Megumi shared a glance.
Choso grimaced, and Suguru kissed his teeth.
Meanwhile, Toji ran a lone finger down his jaw, following the lines from a tattoo.
“Let me give you some context, sweetheart,” he offered, now brushing his chin as he spoke. “For the last—let’s say—few hundred years, the oldest male in each generation became the leader in the Zenin clan. Is the rule stupid? Yes. Should there be more criteria in evaluating a potential heir aside from birth order? Also yes. But nothing has stopped this before because the Zenins, as you know by now, are a family built on antiquity and tradition. So, when I was born as the oldest male in my generation and Naoya had come in second place...”
Toji did not have to finish his sentence for you to figure out the rest.
Despite the demands that came along with being the next family head, Toji must have been esteemed as nothing short of a crown price among the Japanese elite, with seniors in the Zenin household utilizing all their resources to prepare the once young and starry-eyed boy for taking over such an influential role. Naturally, his enviable position would spark jealousy, even from those whom Toji deemed related to by birth.
Including his very own younger first cousin.
Toji frowned in exasperation.
“Your husband is one childish and jealous brat, but Naoya Zenin has been like that for as long as I have known him. To claim the heir and CEO titles, he acquired the trust from myself and my colleagues by working with us in sex therapy, only to stab us all in the back. He’s a liar. A total manipulator.”
And, from personal experiences, you knew that those words could not be more true.
At this point, Toji sank his handsome face into his immense palm.
“Well, now Naoya Zenin has everything he wants but is still an incompetent asshole. The whole enterprise is hanging by a thread. The entire clan cannot fucking stand him. What’s crazy is that his father Naobito is not doing anything about this, and I cannot tell if that is because the old man is giving his son free passes or because he has finally gotten senile. With Naoya's pettiness, though, the father-son duo have done everything to erase my name from the family, even going as far as to dismiss the executives that I brought onto the management team to undo my legacy.”
When Toji glanced up to cast his gaze forward, you then suddenly understood that the three other men in the room were more than just his fellow board-licensed colleagues.
You recalled Toji’s words in the Teyvat meeting room.
‘I recruited these guys right when they completed their undergraduate degrees, around the time I just opened my therapy office,’ and the puzzle pieces clicked into place from the realization that sex therapy had not been the only thing that Toji had worked with them on—Sukuna, Choso, and Suguru had been executives at the Zenin Corporation reporting to Toji, too. ‘We’ve been working together since, for the past four years.’
Discerning these revelations from your expressions, Toji added in confirmation.
“I had selected these three to oversee the Zenin Corporation’s operations with me,” he said, and you remembered the same conversation in which the men discussed their University of Tokyo studies while Toji listed their previous roles. Sukuna, Economics. “Sukuna, Director of Investments and Real Estate.” Choso, Mechanical Engineering. “Choso, Chief Engineer and Supply Chain Manager.” Suguru, Biology. “Suguru, Healthcare and Innovation Administrator.”
Arguably the most consequential divisions in a conglomerate that spanned numerous sectors, with each department bringing in yen by the billions every year.
‘These guys have treated me like family more than my blood-related kin have.’
Learning this about the four therapists added to your fascination.
For you, the discovery was like uncovering a hidden treasure trove. To imagine everything that the four—as one cohesive unit—had gone through together at the top of the corporate ladder: scrutiny from the media and stakeholders, impromptu meetings that demanded make-or-break decisions, and immediate responses to industry trends and regulations.
Only for them to be cast aside by no one other than your husband.
In the end, this all made sense.
Now, you understood why the therapists were once incredibly demeaning and belligerent toward you. How could they possibly sympathize with the woman married to the man who had taken virtually everything from them?
Heck, if you were in their shoes and had no further context, you would hate yourself, too.
Only now were you hearing their perspectives, and you were grateful that—compared to several weeks before—they trusted you enough to open up.
At last, all you could do was sigh and mutter, “I’m sorry.”
“For what?”
Sukuna shot back without hesitation, which stunned you given how he had been the one who mocked you the most. Yet, a scintilla of kindness flared in his fiery eyes, so you continued with your tone softer and quieter.
“I feel terrible.” Such vulnerability in front of so many people at once went beyond your comfort zone. “For the unfairness Naoya had brought upon you all, and how I…I can’t change anything. I can’t do anything. All I am is…useless.”
“No, you are powerful,” Suguru interjected this time. “Your husband relies on your public image to keep scrutiny off him. He needs you. He’s been demoralizing you for months because he knows the ball will always be in your court, and never his.”
His words made you stop.
“You truly think so?” you asked.
“Yes.”
Choso, who replied, seemed honest.
He was honest.
He might throw you off from how aloof and stoic his attractive face would appear, but Choso was not a liar.
Bringing your feet off the bed, you slowly swung your feet.
“I…am surprised you all even want to talk to me.”
Toji tugged at his dress shirt’s collar and flashed his ink-covered muscles underneath. “What makes you think that?”
His pointed question made you realize how much Naoya had been fucking with your mind, blaming and villainizing you at every chance, thus devolving you into a spineless worm feeling remorse for every little thing.
Shrugging, you tossed your gaze to the side.
“I don’t know,” you admitted. “You could have avenged yourself by now. I am Naoya’s wife and Naobito’s daughter-in-law. There had been a thousand chances for you to do something horrible to me: to hurt me, blackmail me, spread dirty rumors about me, but…you haven’t.”
“Why would I do that?” Toji replied instantly and candidly. Rather than appearing offended by your judgments, he started giving you that look again whenever he had his therapist hat on—the one where he would tilt his head at a slight angle to gauge the sentiments painted across your face. “I could have chosen to be bitter and vengeful for the rest of my life, but I am grateful for what I have. Why let a toxic bunch impact my life? I already told you how that household is an absolute fucking hell. I'm glad I have found an out. At the very least, my son would not have to deal with the crap from my young adult years because you know who is the oldest male in the generation after mine?”
Megumi.
All gazes now fell upon the younger Fushiguro, who tried to casually shrug the attention off.
Who cares if I was second-in-line to leading perhaps the most prestigious family in Japan? his nonchalance wanted to convey, but his ears turned pink anyway.
Toji continued, “Then, of course, there are some people whom I care about a lot.” Using his head, he gestured to the twins. “These girls are the best aunts to my son that I, as a father, could ever ask for. They’re only one year older than Megumi, but Mai and Maki used to go on playdates with him on the weekends, walk him to school every morning, and cook him breakfasts over the holidays. The twins even helped my son take his first steps. There is this one photo we have in the library—I don’t know if you have gotten a chance before to see it. But there’s Mai and Maki, each holding one of Megumi’s little hands back in his chubby toddler days and—”
“Dad!” a very flustered and irritated teenage boy finally had to say. “This is not the time to talk about that picture!”
Next to him, a proud Mai and Maki coo and tease their grouchy nephew, poking at his puffed-up cheeks and ruffling his uncombed hair.
“Aw, is someone a little embarrassed?”
Smiling at the little banter from the trio, Toji did not let them distract him from his conversation with you. “What I’m trying to get at is…life’s too short not to enjoy the happy sides of it,” but his eyes glazed with rue nevertheless, “Now is the perfect time to focus on your well-being. Take a look around this room. A lot of people want to see you leading a fulfilling life, Y/N. A fulfilling life for yourself, not for anyone else. Not for me, not for anyone in this room, and certainly not for your husband. Nothing—and I mean absolutely nothing—should hold you back from pursuing your health and happiness.”
While you assumed that your best times were over, Toji reminded you those good days can be brought back with the right attitude. He had a point. Why should you allow your marriage to hinder you from connecting with people whom you care about, working towards the passions that brought you purpose, and feeling the love that you deserve?
Instead, you should seek every sunrise and sunset as an opportunity to live better and without regrets.
As you ruminated on this different mindset, a sudden knock from the door cut your thoughts short.
Who…
Like you, most others looked around blankly, but Toji ordered from his seat, “Let him in.”
Mai, who stood closest to the entryway, obeyed.
Once she unlocked the door, the room fell silent save for the footsteps of the man walking in, his soles creating soft echoes on the linoleum floor. Overhead, pale lights revealed the lines etched on his exhausted face, the worry that sat heavily on his chest.
“Mister Daisuke,” someone eventually acknowledged out of respect.
Your father did not hear the greeting as he searched the room, his sullen gaze darting from face to face until he found you. His shoulders fell from his overwhelming relief. Still in a suit after a long workday, he stumbled forward feebly.
“You’re alright,” he whispered between steps, scarcely audible.
He crouched toward the floor once he approached you, and when Suguru transferred your hands into your father’s, you noticed the unstoppable quiver from the latter even as you gripped him tightly in an attempt to stop the tremor.
His skin was tough, weathered by his additional decades in life. But, in his palms, you found the familiar tenderness that had comforted you since you were a little girl and, in his gaze, you noticed the sadness only found in the despair of a heartbroken parent.
“Thank goodness, you are okay,” and before everyone, tears slipped past his eyes, “I was terrified. I was so scared. When Toji called to tell me you had thrown up and collapsed, do you know how afraid I was?”
You glanced over at the said therapist, reminding yourself that—if Toji had been the CEO before Naoya—he must have worked very closely with your COO father up until recently. For your father to know exactly where you were and walk in with this expression suggested that the former colleagues had had a lengthy conversation about your circumstances. A part of you wanted to be angry. Why drag your father into this worry? But a larger part of you had always wanted to reveal to him the wretched months that had gone by and longed for his support.
And now, he was here.
The older man took a shuddering breath and brought his fingers to your cheek, holding and cradling you like he would never get to do this again.
“I can’t lose you,” he lamented. “I have lost enough in my life already. I cannot lose you, too. I just can’t. Why have you not told me the truth? If you were not happy with Naoya, why have you not told me sooner? Did you think I would place my loyalty to the company over my own child? I feel so guilty and broken to hear about what you have been going through.”
Frankly, you felt just as broken, too.
In fact, seeing and hearing your father weep like this shattered you. As devoted as your father was, his front never failed to be unwavering and strong. Even when your mother’s death left a significant hole in his heart, he bit back his grief. Scars from your mother’s untimely death scarred his heart, wounds that never healed and would stay with him until his last breath, but he rarely expressed his suppressed sorrow.
All for your sake. Because you were his one and only daughter, his one and only child.
So now, for him to see you in such a sorry state was crushing his whole world that had become you.
“Dad.” You helped him wipe his tears away, just like how he had always done for you. “I didn’t want to make you disappointed. I didn’t want to make you sad. I…I just wanted to protect you.”
“No,” he responded firmly. How could a loving father accept the possibility that his daughter would even think about placing him before herself? “Protect yourself first.”
You looked up when you sensed two more approaching individuals and found Mai and Maki with doleful smiles.
“We still have something to return to you, Y/N.”
In your left palm, each girl pressed one ring—the first which promised a future forever and the second which symbolized an infinite unity.
You stared at the jewelry as your chest remembered the waves of happiness, excitement, hope, confusion, betrayal, and pain.
So, so much pain.
Your father, who would not miss the solemn undertones in your gaze, squeezed your hands in his.
“My dear daughter,” he started, and you could tell he could no longer bear to see you suffer any longer, “what are you planning to do?”
Your throat turned dry.
Any possibility seemed like a viable solution, a means for a desperate escape.
For months, you should have prepared yourself for this very question, but now that you were confronted with this reality for the first time, you did not know what to say.
You had clutched onto the false hope for your troubled marriage to be sorted out. Escaping your dreary matrimony had once been too far-fetched of an option given an impending cold war between your families, which you would never wish upon the stars to happen. Therefore, even as you found yourself stuck on a stifling dead end, you did not exactly prepare for the next steps for the occasion you found Naoya Zenin’s mistreatment too much to bear.
However, times have changed.
Your allies and enemies have changed.
Most of all, you have changed.
Therefore, with all the universe’s possibilities at your fingertips, one particular option stuck out.
“I’m going to file for a divorce.”

this is part 4!
a/n: highschool au, fem!reader, reader has braces, shy+nerdy+sensitive reader! [if you don't like that then leave ig lol] soft spot for reader ૮꒰ ˶• ༝ •˶꒱ა ♡ this part too me all day to write wtf. this chapter drained the fuck out of me. its 2.1k words.
sypnosis: assigned to a project together you have no other choice but to get sukuna's number.

sukuna walked to his house after leaving you at yours, though he wasn't too happy knowing he'd be scolded by his parents for his two-day suspension. as he approached his house, sukuna couldn't help but feel a sense of dread.
“itadori sukuna! you got suspended! again?!” kaori, his mother, scolded her as she walked over to the pink-haired teen and pinched his ear. yuji stood at the corner, trying not to laugh. sukuna winced in pain but couldn't help but smirk at yuji's amusement. despite the ear-pinching, he knew deep down that his parents only wanted what was best for him.
“at least it was for a good cause this time,” his twin brother commented, making their mother raise her brow in confusion. “he helped a girl.” yuuji said, trying to convince their mother.
"yeah, it was supposed to be a one-week suspension. but she saved my ass," sukuna said, as the grip on his ear tightened. kaori looked at him with an unconvinced face and asked, "who's this lucky girl then?"
l/n, y/n," he replied, annoyed by his mother's antics. "i heard she's a second-year!" yuuji exclaimed.
"mhm... alright. but you're still grounded, young man!" she said this while lightly slapping sukuna's upper arm. he hissed. "fine." sukuna reluctantly agreed, knowing that his punishment could have been much worse. he couldn't help but feel a sense of relief that your name wasn't brought up anymore.

the next day rolled around, and while in chemistry class, you couldn't help but miss sukuna's annoying pestering. you found yourself glancing over at his empty seat, realizing that his absence made the class feel strangely quiet. the teacher's voice seemed to echo in the room without sukuna's occasional snarky remarks.
as you left the classroom, you remembered you still had a project to complete, with your partner being sukuna. knowing he had a two day suspension made it difficult to get started. you met up with mai and maki and asked them what to do. "you could just ask for his number, idiot," maki said nonchalantly. and you squealed in surprise.
"no! i can't do that! he barely talks to me, plus he's not going to be here for two days." you sighed in frustration. mai groaned in response.
"y/n, just ask one of his friends? or doesn't he have a twin brother?" .
you knew they were right and decided to ask his brother for sukuna's phone number. you hurried to the first year hall, feeling a sense of déjà vu from the first time you met sukuna. but this time was different; everything seemed more peaceful. calm.
as you looked through the two classrooms, one said, "class 1-a," and the other said, "class 1-b."
your eyes quickly scanned over class 1-a and found someone that looked quite familiar—the same shade of pink hair; he wore the school uniform more complete; and when you saw his face, it was almost identical to a sukuna, though this one seemed softer and more approachable. his eyes weren't red like rubies; instead, they were hazel, with bits of green, yellow, and brown scattered throughout them.
the boy wasn't far away, but he sat with a few other friends, including a boy with dark spiky hair and a short girl with short brown hair. you approached them with nervousness.
"hello." you gulped, and the group had heard your voice, turning their attention towards you. the pink haired boy's eyes widened as he looked to recognize you. "you're l/n? right?"
you froze and nodded quickly, feeling a mix of relief and anxiety. "yes, that's me," you replied, wondering what he knew about you. "i'm itadori yuuji!" he exclaimed, a wide smile spreading across his face.
"my brother mentioned you! you're super pretty!" he admitted it truthfully, making you blush and feel a rush of flattery. "these are my friends, fushiguro megumi, and..." the spiky haired boy waved silently.
'kugisaki nobara!" the girl smiled. "it's unbelievable that the name sukuna is associated with someone as adorable as you!" she continued.
you smiled nervously and nodded, feeling a warmth spread through your cheeks.
"did you need something?" yuuji asked, curiosity evident in his voice. "well, i have a project with sukuna, and i was wondering if you could pass me his phone number."
"sure, i can give you his phone number." yuuji said, reaching for his phone as you did. megumi and nobara exchanged puzzled looks; they both knew yuuji didn't give out his brother's phone number casually. sukuna was adamant about his personal information remaining private, even for school projects. however, as you exchanged phone numbers, you couldn't help but notice a small smile on your lips.
'i have his number!!'
"thank you, yuuji," you said, walking out of the classroom. "yeah, of course!"
"why did you give her suku's number?" megumi asked, raising an eyebrow.
"yeah, didn't you say he was grounded and without his phone?" nobara added, looking puzzled.
"oh, yeah! i completely forgot about that!" yuuji exclaimed, scratching the back of his head sheepishly.

you had been looking forward to going home to text sukuna since you received his phone number. once you did, you were frozen on your bed, staring at the screen anxiously.
time passed quickly. you had dinner and finished your homework. and it was already 6 p.m. you grabbed your phone and clicked on sukuna's number to text him. as you typed out a message, you couldn't help but wonder if sukuna would even reply. the anticipation and anxiety grew as you hit the send button, hoping for a response.
???: "hey! this is y/n from chem class. i was wondering when we were going to start our project (✿◠‿◠) [sent-6:23pm]
you stared at the screen as minutes passed by without any response. the silence made you question if you had said something wrong or if sukuna was simply busy. doubts started to creep in, and you couldn't help but feel a bit disappointed.
you turned off your phone, and a frown formed on your face. maybe sukuna wasn't interested in working on the project with you after all. you showered and changed into your cute teddy bear pjs, hoping that a good night's sleep would help clear your mind, but your mind still lingered on your message.
'was it too long? or was the emoticon too much?'
you hid under your covers and tried to distract yourself, but your thoughts kept drifting back to sukuna and the unanswered message. as you lay there, you couldn't shake off the feeling of uncertainty and wondered if you had done something wrong.
i'm just overthinking this, you reassured yourself.
.✿✿✿.
"you gave her what?" sukuna whispered and yelled in disbelief at his twins words. yeah, i gave her your number because she said you guys had a project together."
"it's not that part! i don't have my phone, dumbass!" sukuna groaned from the bottom bunk of their beds. yes, the itadori twins were turning 16, and they still had bunk beds.
sukuna sighed, heavily annoyed at yuuji. " i mean, you can grab your phone from mom's special cabinet." "but you know how she gets if we touch her stuff," yuuji replied sheepishly. "besides, i thought it would be easier if she just called you directly." sukuna rolled his eyes, realizing that yuuji's intentions were good, but his execution was always questionable.
he lazily gets up from his bed and walks over to their mom's special cabinet, careful not to disturb anything. as he opens the cabinet, he notices the familiar blood red phone case. sukuna takes it rapidly, going back to bed quickly.
he turns on his phone and finds one text message from an unknown number. he read it and thought it was cute.
🐰: hey! this is y/n from chem class. i was wondering when we were going to start our project (✿◠‿◠) [sent-6:23pm][read-10:55pm]
he edits the contact so it's a bunny emoji. he smirks to himself.
🐯: come over tomorrw. we can work on it together. [sent-10:56pm]
he impatiently awaits a response: "yuuji, are you fucking pranking me with a fake number?"
"what? no way!"
as he was about to curse out his brother, his phone chimed.
🐰: okay :) i was worried you weren't going to respond lol [sent-11:00pm] [read-11:00pm]
🐯: i'm fucking grounded. i'm talking to you in secrecy 😈 [sent-11:01pm][read-11:01pm]
🐰: don't get in trouble because of me:(( [sent-11:00pm] [read-11:00pm]
🐯: you're totally worth it, sweetheart. [sent-11:01pm] [read-11:01pm]
as you read the message, warmth spreads through your cheeks, making you grip your phone even tighter. sukuna smirked; seeing as you hadn't responded right away, he imagined your flustered expression. he became impatient again.
🐯: respond, brat. [sent-11:06pm][read-11:06pm]
you gathered yourself as your shaking fingers mustered a reply.
🐰: sorry (〃▽〃) that just caught me off guard, is all [sent-11:07pm] [read-11:07pm]
🐯: i didn't know i made you so nervous. you're probably blushing, aren't you? [sent-11:07pm][read-11:07pm]
🐰: nope! not at all! [sent-11:07pm] [read-11:07pm]
🐯: prove it, then. [sent-11:07pm][read-11:08pm]
🐰: what? [sent-11:08pm] [read-11:08pm]
🐯: show me that you're not blushing. [sent-11:08pm] [read-11:08pm]
your eyes widened, and your stomach began to churn. was he asking for a picture of your face right now? you wouldn't, but if you did, he'd be right. you were blushing profusely, and your heart was racing. you became even more flustered at the thought of proving it to him.
as you were about to type your response, your phone rang with a sudden call. sukuna. he was calling you out of the blue. you quickly answered, not knowing it was a facetime call.
"eek!" you moved your phone rapidly as you saw your reflection at the corner of your screen, but bigger than that was the face of sukuna staring back at you; he was visible, but his surroundings were pitch black.
"let me see your face; i didn't call you for nothing." he said it with a sly smirk. you were excited and nervous at the same time as you paused for a moment before adjusting the camera to show your face and half of your shirt. the first thing he noticed were your red cheeks and slightly messy hair. "so you are blushing; how adorable."
"s-shut up-"
"were getting bolder, i see." sukuna chuckled, his smile growing wider.
"i'm learning how to stand up for myself, so...y'know"
he hummed in response, looking closer at you. sukuna furrowed his brow and squinted his eyes to better see your shirt. small teddy bears scurried throughout the fabric, making him smile.
cute, he thought. "nice shirt," he remarked. and you quickly adjusted the camera so it would only show your face. "ignore that!"
he laughed at your reaction. "ugh, y/n, you're so fun to toy with."
"that's so mean..." you pouted, a tiny frown on your face. his heart squeezed as if it was about to leap out of his chest.
'she is going to kill me...'
"it's late. why did you call?" you asked, fidgeting with a strand of hair. "i wanted to see if you were flustered, and you are."
you laughed, covering your smile, knowing if you showed it, he'd probably make fun of you or stop talking to you. "why are you covering your smile? let me see, brat." he remarked that he was a bit annoyed.
your eyes widened as you grabbed your phone, now only showing half of your face. "no, it's okay. you probably won't like it anyway."
"c'mon, stop being an idiot." he insisted, and you thought about it for a minute before deciding to trust him. "alright, just don't be mean. i'm insecure enough." you whispered the last part, but he still caught on to it.
"just get on with it, dumbass."
you smiled at the screen, revealing your pink-banded metal braces. and waited for his disgusted reaction, but it never came.
"that's hot."
"what?!"
"you heard me." he said this, maintaining an unexpected calmness.
"yeah, right," you murmured as you lay on your side in bed. "i'm serious; they're hot as hell."
you couldn't help but feel a mix of surprise and relief. "next time you should get red, i think that would look good too."
you giggled, happy knowing that one of the most insecure parts of you was adored by such an attractive guy like suku.
"i have to go. it's late, sukuna." it was the first time he'd heard his name fall from your lips. he smiled softly, savoring the sound of his name on your lips. "alright, take care and sleep well," he replied, his voice filled with a hint of longing. as you ended the call, a warm feeling settled in your chest, leaving you eager for the next conversation with sukuna as you received one last text.
