Closing thoughts on Mahou Tsukai Tai! (TV)

This is a 13 episode sequel to the 6 episode OVA about a high school magic club. I liked the group’s dynamics and the slice of life vibe in the OVA and it’s great here as well. Though towards the end it got more plot-y than I expected, or since I like all the characters I enjoyed watching them do pretty much anything, but I still preferred the simpler nonsense. Also it got a lot more dreamlike and vague towards the end than I expected and I would have preferred a more concrete and better explained setup for that.

The main couple was cute with their idiots-in-love thing. I like how positive their relationship was and how much they both respect each other, and the pervy high school boy aspect of his character was also done in an alright way (he has fantasies but actively makes sure to never harass any of the girls). However as for the other relationships, in the OVA I praised the other guy in the club who was in love with the main guy without being a gay joke for the entire show (only mostly...), but now he was paired with a girl after all. I thought their relationship was more interesting when she had to deal with being turned down. 

Anyway in the end this was a very positive experience, the character writing was great and the group had excellent chemistry with each other, and most importantly they had unique relationships with everyone and not just the main character. And the way magic is incorporated into the characters’ lives as a fun hobby is great too, I’m always happy to see more of that.
