TOP Safe Vehicles under 10 LAKHS
Why do we need safe vehicles?
When it comes to cars, safety is the uncompromising cornerstone that takes precedence above performance, looks, and brand loyalty. In the middle of the appeal of innovative technologies and beautiful looks, a car's dedication to safety transforms it from a means of transportation to a lifeguard. Our Indian companies, like Tata and Mahindra, are providing one of the safest vehicles out there in the country.
What are some standard safety features?
Safety features are like an unseen barrier protecting us from harm, yet they are often ignored. As quiet sentinels, airbags protect occupants from potentially catastrophic injuries in crashes. While electronic stability control (ESC) guards against skids and rollovers, anti-lock brake systems (ABS) prevent wheel lock-up and preserve control during abrupt braking.
What’s the most important safety aspect to look for?
Even though they have the ability to save lives, safety features are frequently overlooked when buying a car. Global NCAP ratings are a useful tool for making well-informed judgments since they evaluate safety performance through extensive crash tests. A car with a high rating has been built with safety as its primary concern.
A car's global NCAP rating must be taken into account while making a decision to buy a safe vehicle, in addition to aspects like performance and fuel economy. It is the collective duty of the automobile industry to ensure that all models, regardless of price range or kind of vehicle, meet safety standards.
Some safe vehicles on budget?
Tata Altroz, Mahindra XUV 300, Tata Nexon, Tata Punch, and many others! These secure vehicles demonstrate the industry's dedication to putting passenger and driver safety first. When it comes to providing a safe and secure driving experience, these cars provide peace of mind thanks to their sophisticated and top-notch technologies and sturdy structural architecture.

Top Five Modified Mahindra SUVs
1. Mahindra Bolero Terminator
Mahindra Bolero remained the best-selling UV in the Indian market for a long time till the Maruti Vitara Brezza took over. The sturdy and rugged Bolero is the first-choice of many buyers in the Tier-II and Tier-III cities because of its ease of maintenance and extremely robust body. Bolero is also one of the most modification-friendly SUV in the market. There are quite a few modified Mahindra Bolero SUVs in the market, but this is the most extreme of all! Mahindra Bolero has been completely transformed into a Jeep Wrangler through heavy modifications. This is based on a 2010 Mahindra Bolero CRDe that now looks completely different from the stock. There is a new 7-slat grille at the front mimicking the Jeep Wrangler’s iconic design. It also gets enormous fenders, larger ORVMs, custom-made door panes and handles. It now rides on Maxxis Bighorn LT 315/75 R16 tyres that look monstrous. Even the interior of this Bolero has been completely revamped. It gets a redesigned dashboard, powered seats, dual sunroofs and plusher seats. The modification job took months to complete!
2. Mahindra XUV 500 Moonraker
The Mahindra XUV 500 Moonraker is another customisation done officially by Mahindra officially. There are quite a few XUV 500s in the Indian market but most of them are overdone. The Moonraker is a perfect balance between the outrageous and practical. The Mahindra XUV500 gets an army green colour and an Indian flag placed on the aftermarket bumpers of the XUV500.
3. Mahindra Scorpio Hummer
The Mahindra Moonraker gets a massive body cladding and it seamlessly to the wheel arches. This is based on the latest version of the Mahindra XUV 500 and the front grille is intact to keep the DNA alive. However, it gets a few inserts to make it look much stronger. There are dune lights mounted on the top of the roof of the XUV 500 and a luggage box mounted behind it. The Moonraker surely looks extreme and will turn every head on the road that likes good looking cars.
Mahindra Scorpio is one of the most popular SUVs in the Indian market. The seven-seater SUVs. Here is a modified Scorpio that looks like the Hummer H2. It gets a pick-up style body which has been made by chopping the vehicle’s body in half. The SUV also gets extremely huge aftermarket tyres that form the wide appearance of the SUV.
4. Mahindra Thar Daybreak
Mahindra offers a range of official customisations on their range of cars. There is no doubt in the fact that Mahindra Thar is the most loved vehicle by the customisation garages but the best modified Mahindra comes from official Mahindra customisation and it is called the Daybreak. The Mahindra Thar Daybreak is available in two versions. There is an open top version available and a hardtop version of the Mahindra Thar Daybreak, that will take your breath away. The SUV comes with extremely huge 37-inch Maxxis tyres. It gets customised fenders, a customised hood, a winch mounted to the front bumper, a high-lift jack, roll cage, customised wing mirrors and even re-routed exhaust.
The SUV gets four lamps mounted on the hood. There is a snorkel too. The vehicle also gets aftermarket fenders that make the vehicle look very wide. It gets aftermarket alloy wheels too. The Scorpio is now two-door set-up instead of the stock four-door unit.
5. Mahindra TUV 300 Armoured
Mahindra has also included differential locks and has tweaked the suspension to make it an extreme off-roader. The vehicle is completely modified from the inside too. It gets a touchscreen infotainment system and a new steering wheel. There are red coloured accents on the dashboard that makes it look premium.
Mahindra TUV 300 looks like a tank in stock form. However, Mahindra offers various styling kits that can be installed by the dealers to change the look of the Mahindra TUV 300 completely.
This is the Armoured kit of Mahindra TUV300 and it looks extremely good. So good that even Anand Mahindra ones one in the Armoured form. The Mahindra TUV300 gets a new bumper upfront with new air intake grille that also embeds the foglamps.
The TUV 300 also gets aftermarket wheel arches and a new faux scoop on the hood that changes the look completely. The TUV300 also gets dune lamps mounted on the top and aftermarket roof rack. Everything else like tyres, headlamps and tail lamps remain the same.
Test drive the Mahindra vehicles available in South Africa at your nearest Group 1 Mahindra dealership today!

Introduction
Who is the king of SUVs? Mahindra? Nope, as the sales charts show Hyundai and Maruti raking in huge numbers with the Brezza and Creta. The best selling SUV in India is a Maruti. Mahindra has been known for making rugged SUVs but who wants to go through forests or no roads? When most hardly take their SUVs out in the wild.
For most, the SUV presence and driving position is desirable but they want the space, comfort and features of a car. Mahindra tried it otherwise with the TUV300 with its rugged old school charm and the KUV100- both did not do well. Finally they have followed the trend and raided the SsangYong model family for a compact SUV and modified it for India. Say hello to the Mahindra XUV300. Is it good? Read on.
Looks
Whoever first sees the XUV300 says the SUV looks much bigger than rivals and mimics the Brezza too. Well, imitation is best form of flattery and the Brezza like square proportions work wonders and makes the car look bigger and appeal to a bigger audience. Mahindra took the SsangYong Tivoli and shortened it and also added some Mahindra attitude.
It works as the XUV300 looks fantastic. The cheetah inspiration is there and the headlamp detailing is also much like the XUV500. I like the way the grille and headlamp connect and how a wide stance it has with broad shoulders. The wheel-arches are well defined plus the big 17inch wheels fill it nicely. The floating roof makes the side interesting while the rear gives away to being more of a crossover with its hatch like tail-lamps. The paint finish and quality is a new high for Mahindra.
Interiors
Inside, more than the exteriors, Mahindra has left much of the Tivoli untouched and that is a good thing. This is unlike any other Mahindra product and fit plus finish is very good. There is a lot of silver used, which along with the light coloured cabin, lends the whole interior an airy feel. The instrument cluster is less cluttered than other Mahindra cars and displays all the info you need. More importantly ergonomically it is much better than other Mahindra cars and by that we mean pretty good space in the door pockets, storage is good and overall quality is for eg a lot better than even Scorpio!
The XUV300 has the longest wheelbase and is also the widest which reflects inside. Shoulder room is amongst the class best with three sitting at the rear easily. The seats though lack a bit of comfort. A slight disappointment is also the small boot which is below rivals.
Features
No contest. The XUV300 races ahead and brings many first in class features plus you can say it has more than cars costing double. There is a 7inch touch-screen which is slick and pretty good in its use-ability while it has Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, cruise control, rear camera etc. The big stuff includes an electric sunroof, front parking sensors, tyre pressure monitoring system, dual-zone climate control, all round disc brakes, heated mirrors, engine modes etc. In safety it has 7 airbags, ISOFIX / Child Seat Anchors, Corner Braking Control, ABS with EBD etc.
Driving
We drove the diesel XUV300- the petrol review will come soon, as and when we try to get it early for you. The diesel is the same Marazzo 1.5 unit with 115 bhp and 300Nm. While the petrol is a 1.2l turbo with 110 bhp and 200Nm. Compared to other Mahindra cars, the Marazzo was a big leap and the same is here on the XUV300. Refinement is better than its rivals and stuff like vibrations when using the gear lever is absent.
Speaking of which the 6-speed manual being standard (no auto) is again much improved and the smoothest gearbox yet on a Mahindra. At low speeds the steering is light and so is the clutch.
More so the engine does not have lag so in the city you can drive around without shifting down too much. However on the highways is when you enjoy it. The XUV300 has the most torque in its class and it shows. You can overtake and cruise at big speeds easily- it is stable. The ride does not have the choppiness of previous Mahindra’s and is polished and while there is roll, it is controlled. The XUV300 feels agile and nimble for its class. The steering modes, though feels like a gimmick and no real change was felt in the sportier mode. In terms of mileage it delivers 20 kmpl for the diesel.
Variant to buy
There are three variants on offer and interesting some of the talked about features like the sunroof or 7 airbags are on the option pack available on top of the W8 trim. That said the W8 offers the best value as the features really make the car.  Talking about the color options, Mahindra XUV300 is available in 6 mono-tone colors and 2 dual-tone colors – Check all available Mahindra XUV300 Colors.
Vs rivals
Prices of the XUV300 start at Rs 7.9 lakh for the base petrol and stretches all the way to Rs 12 lakh for the top-end diesel. The Brezza is cheaper with a price range of Rs 7.7 lakh to 10.7 lakh. The Nexon is the cheapest with a starting price of Rs 6.3 lakh to Rs 10.8 lakh. The XUV is also more expensive than the EcoSport (Rs 7.8 lakh to Rs 11.8 lakh).
Yes, The XUV300 is more expensive than rivals but the top-end has features others do not have. One advantage others have on the XUV300 is the automatic as the XUV is manual only. The Nexon and Brezza are offered in AMT while the EcoSport has also a superb automatic. Compared to rivals the XUV offers a bigger look, more space and features while also having the most torque.
Verdict
Safe to say, that this is the best Mahindra yet. The XUV300 scores in all areas and crucially like features, looks, engine, space- it does very well- more than rivals. It is exactly what the modern day compact SUV buyer wants. The XUV300 is an all rounder and currently the best compact SUV to buy. Over to you Maruti…

Mahindra XUV300 launches in SA
Mahindra has entered the next phase of its evolution with the launch of the bold and dynamic Mahindra XUV300.
Built on the group’s global X100 platform, the XUV300 (pronounced XUV three double O) carries its larger sibling’s cheetah-inspired design language into a new generation of vehicles. At the same time, it introduces a new range of engines and a nearly unmatched level of specification to the local compact SUV segment.
“At Mahindra, our driving purpose is ‘Rise’, which we interpret as the way we challenge conventional thinking and innovatively use all our resources to drive positive change in the lives of our stakeholders and communities across the world.
“The XUV300 is the latest product of that philosophy and combines fresh thinking and our best engineering and design talent. We are very excited to see how our new compact SUV will not only wow customers in our second home – South Africa – but will allow them to Rise!” says Mr Arvind Mathew – Chief of International Operations Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.
South Africa is the first international market outside of India to launch the XUV300, which lands here with both petrol and diesel drivetrains and the choice of a W6 or W8 trim level.
“The XUV300 was launched in India in February 2019 and has already generated over 26 000 bookings in this hotly contested market, which is roughly equal to the total size of the compact SUV market in South Africa.
“The success of XUV300 can be attributed to its combination of style, dynamic driving performance and a high specification level. If the local interest in this new model is anything to go by, it will soon become one of Mahindra South Africa’s top-selling models as well,” says Rajesh Gupta, CEO of Mahindra South Africa, adding that the compact SUV market in South Africa represents more than 25 000 units sales every year.
“South Africans love the combination of a high-driving position, bold styling and functionality that SUVs offer and the XUV300 offers this in a bold and dynamic package with a list of features and specifications that are not offered as standard on many vehicles in this segment.” says Mr Gupta.
The XUV300 will attract new customers into Mahindra dealerships as the brand begins its work of becoming a household name in the South African market. With their local investment, strong dealer network and versatile product range, there is even more reason for the local market to start seeing Mahindra as a true South African contender.
“We at Mahindra had an exciting FY19 with the inauguration of our assembly plant, a number of product updates and 30% growth in a declining market. All this has helped us to emerge as the second fastest growing OEM in South Africa. We are confident that in this fiscal year, starting with the launch of the new Bold and Dynamic XUV300 and few more offerings during the year, we shall continue our growth momentum” says Mr Avinash Bapat, Chief Financial Officer of Mahindra South Africa.
Head-turning design
With its dual LED-strip daytime running lights (DRLs), aggressive grille, wide LED taillights and diamond cut alloy wheels, the new XUV300 stands apart from other compact SUVs in the market.
Like the XUV500, the XUV300 is inspired by the aggressive dynamism of a cheetah. This is perhaps most visible in the tear-duct style DRLs on certain models, which flank the bold grille and trapezoidal lower air intake.
The cheetah styling cues are further visible in the XUV300’s squat stance, which is accentuated its 2.6-metre wheelbase in a body that is just short of 4 metres. This stance is further enhanced by wide and bold wheel arches and large wheels on the furthest corners of the vehicle.
Mahindra’s design team also added a floating roof (colour coded roof on darkened side pillars), as well as side cladding and a wide rear-quarter hip line that flows into unique LED taillights, a roof-mounted spoiler and high-mounted stop lamp.
Like all Mahindra SUVs, the new XUV300 has elements of the group’s signature design language that includes full volumes, sculpted sections and muscled surfaces. It also has the distinctive Mahindra billet grille with chrome highlights on the highest specification level.
On the W8 model, the design is accentuated by LED indicators in the heated and folding side mirrors, dual tone roof rails, 17″ wheels and silver front- and rear skid plates.
New generation engines
A brand-new model range deserves brand new engines and Mahindra has launched two new engines with the XUV300, offering buyers the choice of either a turbo-petrol or turbo-diesel engine.
The first is a new three-cylinder 1.2 litre turbo-petrol engine, which delivers 81 kW at 5 000 r/min and a healthy 200 Nm of torque between 2 000 r/min and 3 500 r/min.
The second engine option is a brand-new four-cylinder 1.5 litre turbo-diesel engine that delivers 85.8 kW at 3 750 r/min and 300 Nm in a flat band between 1 500 r/min and 2 500 r/min.
“Both the 1.2 litre petrol and 1.5 litre turbo-diesel engine have been subjected to extensive stress-testing at Gerotek in Gauteng and we are confident that they will not only offer exceptional durability, but also deliver the type of acceleration and high-speed cruising power that South African drivers enjoy,” says Gupta.
All versions of the XUV300 are equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox, which transfers power from the engine to the front driving wheels.
Designed around the driver
In the interior of the new XUV300, Mahindra’s designers have crafted the vehicle controls around the driver and have added a thick-rimmed steering wheel with steering controls, a large tachometer and speedometer and a 17.78cm full colour connected infotainment system on all models.
The infotainment system offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration on the W8 and has in-built turn-by-turn navigation with regional maps as standard across the range. The system also allows the driver to pre-set many of the vehicle functions, including the background display and, on the W8, the colour of the LED backlit instrument panel.
The XUV300’s infotainment system also features Mahindra’s Bluesense app. This app tracks the driver’s driving patterns and scores them on a set of environmentally friendly metrics. The driver can access this information and information on past trips from their phone’s connected Bluesense app or smart watch.
In addition to the infotainment system, all Mahindra XUV300 models are equipped with the new Smart Steering system. Controlled with a button below the infotainment system, the Smart Steering system allows the driver to change the steering feel between Comfort mode, which allows you to negotiate urban traffic with ease, a Normal everyday mode and Sport, with the latter offering a weightier and more responsive steering feel for a more thrilling drive experience.
Abundant Luxury
The new XUV300 is available with two trim levels, both of which offer a level of standard equipment and safety features, including the 17.78cm infotainment system, with an auxiliary port and USB connectivity.
The W6 trim level offers the most affordable entry into the XUV300 range and features air conditioning, electric windows, power steering with Smart Steering, premium black fabric trim, electrically adjustable side mirrors and central locking.
In the W8 specification level, Mahindra has created one of the most luxurious interior packages available in the compact SUV segment.
The XUV300 W8’s list of luxuries includes a second USB charging point, an additional information screen between the colour-customisable LED-lit instrument cluster and electric windows with express up- and down function with anti-pinch technology. There is a glass tilt-and-slide sunroof, also with anti-pinch technology, cruise control and an integrated voice command system with steering-mounted controls.
Mahindra has also added additional driving aids, including its Tyretronics tyre pressure warning system, front and rear parking sensors, a reverse parking camera with parking assistance and automatic rain-sensing wipers.
Other creature comforts that come standard on the W8 specification level include dual-zone climate control with three pre-set memory settings, keyless access with a start-stop button and automatic headlights.
In the XUV300 W8, Mahindra has replaced the fabric seats with its luxurious leatherette upholstery.
“With the introduction of the W6 and W8 model ranges, we are able to cater both to the budget conscious buyer and buyers who do not want to compromise on luxury features, while offering both segments a modern infotainment system with satellite navigation,” says Gupta.
Ample space

XUV 300 is Mahindra’s most promising compact SUV yet
The car gets nice-looking projector headlamps and vertical LED lights that connect these headlamps to the fog lamps.
The compact SUV wars have not died down for the last few years. Mahindra itself has made several attempts to achieve glory in this segment but none look more promising than the XUV 300. The car comes with many segment first features that Mahindra hopes will give it an edge over its rivals.
Looks
Just like the big brother XUV 500 even this baby SUV’s design is inspired by the Cheetah. On the front, there’s a chrome laden grille along with skid plates down below. The car gets nice looking projector headlamps and what is really striking are the vertical Led lights that connect these headlamps to the fog lamps. The XUV 300 gets a heavy dose of cladding all over the car which makes it look sporty. The 17-inch Diamond cut alloys also are there but only in the top variant. Rest of the models will come with 16-inch steel wheels. The dual roof option is there as well and the car gets roof rails too. The rear gets split LED lamps along with a nicely designed spoiler and skid plates. However, keeping it sub 4 metres has been a challenge as is evident from a rear that doesn’t look proportionate to the front.
The car also gets rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlamps and front parking sensors.
Interiors
Now this is a car that’s loaded with features, some of which you will not see in any other car in the segment. A 7-inch touch screen system is very functional and gives a lot options. It is compatible with both Apple car play and Android Auto and also gives reverse camera feed. The dual tone on the dash looks nice and ergonomically the car feels good too as the buttons are placed very conveniently. The car gets a dual zone climate control and you also set memory functions for temperature control. The Instrument cluster gives a lot of vital information including the direction the tyres are facing. The car also gets rain sensing wipers, automatic headlamps and front parking sensors. And presence of a sunroof makes this XUV even more versatile.  The car gets seatbelt reminders even for the second row. Boot space seems adequate on the car, and while Mahindra hasn’t yet revealed the figures here it certainly isn’t the most generous in the segment.
Engine
The good thing is that the compact SUV comes with both petrol and diesel engine options. The tried and tested 1.5 litre 115 bhp mill is what we sampled on our drive on the roads of Goa. The torque figure of the 300 Nm this XUV comes is the best in segment and that shows when you drive it around. Superior low end torque is what works well for the car. A light clutch and an slick gearshift make the XUV 300 a car that is very easy to drive. The petrol is a 1.2 litre turbocharged mill that churns out a little lesser 110 PS and a decent torque of 200 Nm. There are only 6-speed manual gearbox options being offered with the car, at least for now. But the presence of Hill start Assist makes you miss the Automatic variant lesser on this one. The claimed mileage figures on the XUV 300 are 17 kmpl for the Petrol variants and an even superior 20 kmpl for the diesel models. The Ecosense technology used here rates your driving habits and helps improve the fuel efficiency of the car.
Handling & Ride
A sub-compact SUV with a raised seating position will make you think that the car will have a fair bit of body roll. But here is where the X100 platform from SSangyong comes into play as it offers a rigid and strong base for the car. It only helps further that the SUV has the longest wheelbase and the widest track in the segment. And these attributes make it a car that is extremely stable and one which gives a planted drive at all speeds. The suspension has been altered for Indian road conditions and does an impressive job of dealing with the undulations. And with a height adjustable seat and steering finding an ideal drive position is not really a challenge. What you get here is a commanding view of the road. What also is of use are different steering modes—Comfort, Normal and Sport, and you can choose depending on driving conditions how engaging or light you steering wheel should be.
Verdict
The Mahindra XUV 300 is sure to make a major impact in the very popular compact SUV segment. The Tata Nexon, Ford Ecosport and Maruti Suzuki Brezza have one more potent rival to deal with. In fact the Hyundai Creta could also be hit to an extent. Mahindra has also put a special emphasis on safety in the new XUV 300. The car gets disc brakes on all 4 wheels and best in segment 7 airbags. Then there’s tyre pressure monitoring system, ABS with EBD and ESP.
