Was watching a random episode of Star Plus Mahabharat 2013 and Gods the way this show annoys me with their portrayal of the Krishna Arjun dynamic 😭 Instead of mutual adoration and respect it’s borderline servility from Arjun’s side and bored tolerance from Krishna’s.
Arjun of all people saying “I have no rights over you Krishna, only friendship” and Krishna going “I am not a throne. I accept the love of anyone who claims a right to me.” To ARJUN. Arjun who is one of the most adorably demanding of all of those who loved Krishna? Arjun who never badgered Krishna for attention or affection but basically considered it his god given right?
These are not the kind of conversations Krishna and Arjun have 😭💀 if there’s anything both of them absolutely take for granted it’s each other!!! It’s common knowledge that they prioritise each other above all else to the point that their enemies don’t even consider counting one apart from the other?!?? Like does THIS seem like a casual coworker relationship to ANYONE-
‘Sanjaya said, “O king! O descendant of the Bharata lineage! Listen to me and I will tell you how I found Krishna and Dhananjaya and what those two brave ones said. O king! After purifying myself, I entered the quarters of those gods among men, looking at my toes and joining my hands in salutation. Abhimanyu and the twins are not allowed entry into the abode where the two Krishnas, and Krishna and the beautiful Satyabhama, reside. Both of them were drunk with liquor and both had their bodies smeared with sandalwood. They wore garlands, excellent garments and were adorned with divine ornmanets. The two destroyers of enemies were seated on a large and golden couch, which was covered with many carpets. I saw that Keshava’s feet were on Arjuna’s lap, while the great-souled Arjuna’s were on Krishna (Draupadi) and Satya.
- BORI 721(58)
THIS guy. This guy of all people does not feel comfortable making demands of Krishna? This is the guy who Krishna only tolerates for the purposes of maybe perhaps hopefully potentially winning a war?

I have an idea!
Mahabharat but make it sitcom where every character breaks the 4th wall and stare at you with obvious expressions when someone does something utterly stupid.

Context under the cut(?)
Today I was made aware of this buckwild scene in Star Plus' Mahabharat(2013) courtesy our wonderful IMQ discord server members and we all collectively had a flashback to every shitty bollywood and tv serial blood sindoor/kumkum maang-filling scene in existence. I HAD to make this. Enjoy this mess.

@bharatiya-naari-sab-pe-bhaari reminded me that this existed a couple of days back, and this. This exactly is how Star Plus failed Krishna. How could it not have failed him? When Krishna literally couldn’t breathe?
Vidur: “No bribe can part Krishna from Arjun. Arjun is not Krishna’s friend, he’s Krishna’s very breath.”

Prativindhya Headcanons
Draupadi, after his birth, has a bit of PPA.
His mother and father are both people who were deprived of a childhood in their own way, so for a while(like the 1-2 years before Sutasoma is born and he’s pretty much rocking that only child rizz) his parents entertain all his antics. They live vicariously through him and are quite indulgent.
He is a very inquisitive child, and his curiosity complements Yudhishthir’s patience perfectly. He’s the only one patient enough to answer his son’s questions after questions after questions.
Speaking of that, they have a tradition where no matter how busy Yudhishthir has been throughout the day, he always spares some time for Prativindhya in the evening/night. This inadvertently turns Prativindhya into a night owl. But he loves the sunrise. He’s the kind of person who will stay up through the night just so he gets to see the sunrise.
However, this inquisitiveness takes a dark turn when he begins to pick up on his father’s addiction and begins to ask some. Ahem. Uncomfortable questions. Their relationship takes a bit of a dark turn, though things don’t go totally downhill until the Dyut sabha.
Draupadi and Prativindhya have issues in the sense where you know. The parent without addiction takes their ire regarding the other parent out on the child. I think she is hard on her kids when they make mistakes because she fears that one unchecked mistake will become their ruin. It hurts, but he also kinda gets it. He hates that he gets it.
His brothers are free to call him out on his bs, he does not want the unquestioning respect.
You know that narrative where kids whose parents have addiction have inadequacy issues? On the ride to Panchal he’s pretending to sleep but he’s still thinking, thinking, ‘was I not enough?’ ‘Was my love not enough?’ ‘why did he do that?’
He’s also quite pessimistic.
When he gets to Panchal, he develops a drinking problem for a bit. What snaps him out is a night when he gets blackout drunk. The hangover involves him SOBBING SHAKING CRYING as Shikhandi holds him, “Uncle, please, make it stop, make it stop mama, what did I do? Why is this happening to me??”
He becomes a gym rat after that to cope with everything.
He loves the spear, but tries to distance himself from any and all aspects of his father, and even stops fighting with the spear. Only to miss it. He has to psych himself up even to look at a spear after that. At first, he practices in secret, in the dead of the night, but later begins to not care about the associations anymore and reclaims the spear, becoming one of the greatest spear fighters of their generation. Would have become the best overall if he had lived longer but we are NOT gonna go there.
He’s one of the few people who can get the high-strung, tightly-wound Shatanik to let loose and enjoy things. He is actually a pretty nice brother when he gets his head out of his ass and stops being scared of himself.
He loves perfumes, and is partial to deer musk.(Kasturi)
After a long day, all he wants is sutasoma’s cooking. He loves his brother’s bitter gourd curry and freshwater fish fry.
He’s very close to Yudhamanyu and Uttamaujas because there’s a less age gap between them and they become his go-to adults. They’re ready to call him out on his BS when needed, but also really cool and supportive. More like big brothers than uncles, honestly.
He’s a mama’s boy through and through, though, maybe even 2013 mahabharat Arjun levels of mama’s boy. They have their own issues, but he is BAWLING when he sees her for the first time in 13 years.
He has said, multiple times, during the war, “I am doing this for mother, not father,”
He beats up shakuni within an inch of his life one day when the upapandavas are dealing with the gandhaar army on the 5th-6th day.
He was born before Indraprastha happened. He knew Lakshman Kumara, even if just as kids. He feels sad about his death. He never gets a chance to process those complicated feelings.
He's beheaded.

Fandom: Mahabharat (TV 2013) | The Mahabharata
Source: Draupadi-Satyabhaama Samvaad Parva
Prompt by: @chaanv
Note: This is a conversation between Krishna and Satyabhaama, after they return from their visit to the Pandavas in exile. While enlightened by Draupadi's love and devotion towards her husbands, Satyabhaama is still rattled by the events that had led to the exile. The portrayal of the characters and the conversation herein is entirely the author's perception of human behaviour, based on the chapter linked above.
Taglist: @chaanv , @vidhurvrika , @melancholicmonody, @bleedinknight, @ambidextrousarcher, @demonkidpliz
Caveat: Posting from my mobile since my laptop has taken a trip to hell.
_________
Satyabhaama feels a tranquil turbulence within her once she leaves the abode of the Pandavas. Her conversation with Panchaali has been a very detailed one. And her return to Dwaravati, is unusually contemplative.
“Do not worry for them, Satya,” Krishna’s voice drifts into her thoughts, almost as if it were one of them.
“It isn’t the Pandavas that I’m worried about, or even thinking about, for that matter.” Satyabhaama replies, in a voice louder than intended. Krishna knows better than to speak to his currently preoccupied spouse.
***
“I really don’t understand, Jiji,” she confides in Rukmini, on one of the following days, “her endurance is superhuman.”
“She really has sufferred more than you and I, Sister,” her sister-wife says, in a manner of resignation.
"Her circumstances are vastly different,” Rukmini continues, “much like Queen Damayanti of yore.”
So different, Satyabhaama thinks to herself.
***
“Would you have wagered any one of us, Arya?” she eventually asks Krishna, out of nowhere, on one of their nighttime walks in the gardens of their palace.
The answer is quite what she expects, silence.
Satyabhaama, for her part, is in no hurry. There are times when her husband is human, and just as vulnerable as anyone else on God’s green earth.
Krishna’s silence isn’t diplomatic. He knows that his favourite wife means to test him, and hurt him in the process, even if He had been the saviour. As if it were on her to exact the answers for Draupadi -
-Questions that were still unanswered.-
“What answer would you wish for me to provide, My Queen?” Satyabhaama feels cornered, probably betrayed, in her own game, by her own hand.
Trust The Trickster to come up with a battle of wit!, she thinks.
“You seem to tergiversate, Husband,” she says sternly.
Another jibe, another barb. Even for all his silence, Krishna cannot stop his lips from curling into a smile.
“This is no contest, Satya,” he willingly gives in. After all, he knew the magnitude of hurt she had felt right after they’d walked out of The Pandavas’ hermitage. Her confabulation with Panchaali had been enlightening.
“I’m bound to ask, Arya,” she doesn’t hide her turmoil either, “Just why does she still have to endure” –
She comes to a grinding halt, before embarking on a much awaited monsoon of a tirade.
“My Love,” Krishna attempts to stem her flow, while attempting to assuage her turbulence, “it was sheer zemblanity,” –
__________
Draupadi’s call haunts him to this day.
Even He, doesn’t know how he had done it. He just remembers her crimson cloth tied around his finger, to prevent further flow of blood from being cut by The Sudarshan Chakra.
“Every thread shall be repaid, Krishne,”
“In vermillion, as bright as it adorns the parting of your hair.
In gold, as lustrous as it adorns your empyrean form.
In blue, as the peacock whose feathers I savour.
In fire, for Your Sire.”
__________
“I’d called out to Everyone, Satya. Each one of You, as she called out to Me.” Krishna’s voice is heavy, and earnest.
“It was too overpowering,” his calm attempts to conceal the minuscule of a tremor in his voice. Only His wives know that he trembles, in his corporeal form.
“Only when I could envision all of You,” he sighs, betraying nothing, “that I knew that I had succeeded.”
Satyabhaama remembers the fatigue, the exhaustion, that had made him age a decade after he had returned from the damned War that had prevented his presence in the accursed Sabha of The Kurus.
He hadn’t been the quite the same ever since. His outwardly gait was disarmingly deceptive, but, she knew, that The Slayer of Madhu had a strengthened resolve. His silences were louder than ever.
“I’ll set everything right, My Love.”
Satyabhaama knows that He would.
