hello! ive been thinking recently about what my favourite albums of ever are right now, and how they have changed. so i made a 3x5 grid and ruminated very hard. this is the current 2023 outcome. i love these albums more than anything they mean so much to me. they also contain more 'new' music than my favourite albums ever have. links to listen below.

Symphonie magnétophonique

Else Marie Pade (Dec. 2, 1924 - 2016) was a Danish avant-garde composer and pioneer within electronic music. She had a fascinating life: Very sickly as a child, she nonetheless became obsessed with music and the sounds of the city at a very young age - discovering jazz when she was 12! During the German occupation of Denmark in WWII she was active in the Resistance movement and got sent to the Frøslev camp in late 1944. There she organized song and music activities to boost the prisoners’ spirits...

In the 1950s she studied at the Royal Music Conservatory in Copenhagen and started creating compositions in the concrete music genre and with ample use of tape recorders, found sounds and electronic manipulations. She was a follower and student of Stockhausen, Ligeti and Boulez. Quickly she gained the respect of Stockhausen in particular, and soon they worked together as equals.

Pade left behind more than 40 works - many of them songs, ballet pieces, and music for radio and TV. Her major works include Symphonie Magnétophonique, 1958-1959, and Glasperlespil II, 1960. She was largely forgotten in Denmark after the mid-70s, until a rediscovery occurred around 2000 when people realized what an important ‘grandmother of electronic music’ she had been...

Le document qui semble être le plan général de l’ensemble porte au verso le texte de l’artiste « Pour une nouvelle pratique signifiante du dessin », avec sa signature autographe.

Not Not Fun To Release New Tape From Magnétophonique, Shares "Moist Jungle Mist II"

As we round the corner on the end of summer, many of us are still subject to those late-July/early-August heat waves in which steamy, humid afternoons (hopefully) give way to slightly cooler, slightly less uncomfortable yet balmy evenings — with cool drinks on the porch to help ease the burden of facing an AC-less bedroom. Luckily, Los Angeles label Not Not Fun has been putting out some appropriately mellow, dewy, and island flavored ambient transmissions for just such occasions. A perfect compliment to the anonymous shipwrecked vibe of Wave Temples or the adventure novel-inspired journeys of X.Y.R. — Lyon, France based Magnétophonique (real name Charles Belpois) offers a set of emotive, imaginative sonic adventure with his latest release, Une Cartographie Idéale, a collection of primo tracks culled from small-batch cassette releases on his own Carpi Records (co-founded and curated with roommate Baptiste Martin, aka Les Halles) and the dearly departed Dept Tapes out of Mexico. “Moist Jungle Mist II” is the first offering from the new tape, and its hazy keys and percussion combine for a perfect chill-out atmosphere.
