the “i don’t speak french” crisis monologue from jon in mag 102 is so funny out of context but in context it’s absolutely crushing because it’s a marking of his gradual realization he’s slowly becoming less “Jonathan sims” and more “The archivist, avatar of the beholding” and i screamed when it first clicked

Finally finished Magnus Archives after years of putting off the podcast.

As well as about a year or so trying to stretch it out so I can listen to it as long as possible.

First and foremost it was everything I wanted, even more so actually and a VERY satisfying finish...

I am very upset and will go straight to being the scenes and AO3 for comfort and different perspectives of the ending. Possibly a longer focus on the short period of Jon and Martins domestic vibes.

I will also hurt myself further and follow the cannon compliant ending and what goes on afterwards (which could go in many directions) as well as grievings and acceptance of the possibility that they have died.

SPOILERS for the Magnus Protocol finale

I'm assuming we'll learn more about the TMP universes archivist soon enough now that Sam has been transported with it (maybe to the TMA universe which if so? Wild. And also maybe Basira and Melanie will be back which omfg I desperately want), but I'm going to say I am not convinced at all it is Jon (or Martin). Whatever is going on with them it's through the computers probably, this universes archivist works very differently to Jon, the main thing being it seems to have a much closer relationship with the other fears? When Jon took a statement it was less direct, Sam describes that as it was extracting his statement from him it was looking for other information inside his mind, which Jon could never do. Also even though resisting archivist compulsion from Jon could be fatal (see Peter Lukas RIP king) the TMP archivist seems as a side effect of its compulsion powers accidentally kills the statement giver by setting whatever power they encounter onto them, which also was never an ability Jon had. It also kind of adds up I think as to why Sam survived? Everyone before is describing the supernatural directly influencing them, whereas Sam was only a witness to someone else suffering. Anyway this was mainly rambling, my point is I don't believe the Archivist in this world is Jon at all. The voice didn't sound like him if I'm being honest, and this universes institute is too different. Here's hoping we learn a lot more next season, with Lena out of the way I get the feeling things are going to spiral out of control very fast.

Funny little Magnus Archives theory I enjoy is that trans people are more likely to become avatars of the stranger then any other power because they already feel like they’re in the wrong skin.

I liked this one, I love the references to real world stuff, really helps ground it in culture when the culture is real. Using actual horror cliches, in a horror podcast, about horror? Metaaaaaaa. Super fun. I have a feeling that this theater/man/movie/something will potentially come back and become a plot thing. More so than anything else so far, this gives me a vibe of "this is a situation that might require further investigation". Having said all that, I think it might be my least favourite so far. Not saying much because I still really enjoyed it. The standard is SO high.

Now that I'm more used to the format of the casements, I'm really really into it. Perhaps more so than Archives. Really gives it an uncanny/future-bad vibe, an extra edge of something. Blog posts being read by a spooky voiced man, with spooky music underneath, just absolutely works super well. Immense credit to Jonny and Alex etc for making something so different, fit SO well into the previous format, and remain as scary and enjoyable as before.

I've been re-listening to Archives recently and I think I'm ready to suggest that Extinction might be explored here. I LOVE the concept of a new fear manifesting and extinction is a beautiful, very explorable and very real fear. One they didn't really get to explore too much in Archives.

We're also getting to a point where the characters now have... characters. Obviously Alice is wonderful, Sam is a little blank still but is absolutely likable. Colin is creepy man. Idk why but he gives me super-bad (not the movie) vibes

So far it's 5/5 for enjoyable episodes.

I fucking love this show already.
