I'm not usually into a/b/o fics but this one. this hit and still hits me everyday. I have read it almost three times now (keep in mind this is a 35-chapters/200k words fic) and I can't believe how well written it is. the smut is beautiful, angsty and punch-to-the-gut. worth every seconds spent reading it. I also really liked the fact that this is not your traditional a/b/o dynamics, with the little weak omega getting roughly fucked by perma-rut alpha. nope. it's so much more.

everything a teen!maxiel fic could ever want to be. teens in love, max and Daniel going through everything that comes with that. sexuality crises all over the place, hormones, too. love it. this is the fic that made me want to start my own teen!maxiel. it's funny, angsty, has way too many crack-worthy dialogue. I love it.

gorgeous. no words. 30k of hooker!Daniel that had me going a little crazy. so many good smut scenes, so many insane dialogues, so many insane angsty moments that aren't angst but feel like it... love love love it. I've read it a couple times already and it always has me on the floor. beautiful and breathtakingly so.

what if Daniel woke up as his 2012 self with braces and awkward limbs but he's in his 2024 self bed, next to his 2024 self boyfriend (max) and he can't understand how any of this is happening? that's it. that's the plot. loved the little references, the race watching, the max trying to make Daniel learn everything they've had since 2012. the virgin smut. hot. but. everything about this fic is so, so sweet. it's gentle. like a hug after a long day, it takes you in and you never want to let go, especially because it has Daniel's fucked up teeth/braces in it. (joking but you know how I am with teeth, right?)

so funny... love, love, love. I always love those kind of stories, the AU with amnesia and all, but this one is genuinely the best I've ever read. I love all of @powerful-owl 's fics, but this one. it has me in a chokehold. read it again during the holidays for the snowy/angsty/smutty vibes and the scenes always have me giggling or crying. sometimes both at the same time. can't believe she has the power to write such good scenes like the bathroom one. description is just gorgeous, smut is always really good and goofy and. yeah. love it. can't say I've ever been let down by one of her works.

2024 fic wrapped

i was tagged by the lovely @pitforwets to share some fave fics from 2024! this was especially difficult because i joined f1 fandom in late 2023 and only really started reading fic in earnest in january of this year, which means that this is basically "choose your five fave f1 fics you've ever read." that's hard! with that in mind, this list is nowhere close to exhaustive of the amazing list of fics i've read this year. but in keeping with a list of five, here we go (in no particular order):

icarus by @eirianerisdar. i discovered this fic sometime in the spring. i specifically remember being so engrossed in it that first day that i stayed up until nearly 4 in the morning reading it, and i had to call off work the next day because i was so exhausted (shhhh, don't tell my boss!). it's wing!fic, to reduce it to its absolute most basic form, but it's infinitely more than that. the characterization and worldbuilding are a masterclass. the scene where seb walks through the track picking up feathers lives rent free in my mind. (as does the scene where daniel is a wiggly worm whose newly grown feathers are itchy. if you want a fic to have you giggling and sobbing in equal measure, this is the one)

Hey, Remember That Time by @powerful-owl. i'm not 100% sure, but i'm fairly certain that this is the first of em's fics that i read. and what an amazing introduction! i definitely know that it's the one that made me reach out to say hi on tumblr, and i'm so glad that i did! daniel has amnesia, and max runs an inn- what more could you ask for? one of my favorite parts of this fic is the way em writes charles- he's such a little weirdo, and i adore him beyond measure. also, there's a scene where max describes daniel's own dick to him, and boy howdy. it's a good scene, is what i'm saying.

Breaking Every Rule For You by @magicalrocketships. maxiel exchange dick pics. that's it, that's the post. but to be serious, this fic is 150k words of some of the hottest sex (and preludes to sex) you'll ever read, interspersed with genuinely incredible character growth and exploration. honestly, this fic makes me want to learn to be a better writer. each time a new chapter came out, i would devour it and think "god, i wish i could do that."

there's glitter on the floor after the party by @fiveredlights. there are few things that i'm weaker for than a well written epistolary/social media fic, and there is no one out there who does it quite like five! their writing is amazing, every single time, and the care that goes into crafting these fics is unbelievable. i'm reccing this particular fic because it's the first of their fics i'd ever read, but this is actually a rec for everything they've published, because every single fic is one banger after another. also, after the actual events of this year in real life, i'd much rather sink into the world of this fic and pretend this is how things went down with daniel's career instead.

Get It Right Back by @overtake. have i mentioned that i'm a sucker for a social media fic? because i am. and this fic has the perfect combo of traditional fic structure intertwined with social media elements. it's very newly published and has already worked its way up my faves list. another fantastic example of a fic running me through an entire rainbow of emotion. special shoutout to all the scenes between max, daniel, and max's nephews. the cuteness is too much to bear.

21- My day today hasn't been bad, I can't complain very much. There was a moment where I forgot about a meeting (that I always forget about) and I was on the phone with my dad and I went 'oh shit I have a meeting!' and he laughed at me and sent me on my way. So that was fun

22- I think I got like a good 7 hours last night, maybe. I did wake up at 4am though and had to like will my brain to let me go back to sleep but no sleepwalking at least!

The oven timer goes off, loud and shrill. They both wince. Daniel has to hit it three times to get it to stop. He pours the pasta into a colander, then puts the pot back on the stove.

The whole garage is quiet. Maybe they feel the same. But when Charles gets pole, they scream the fucking house down; Max does, too.

Well. I DO have more of this. Is it happy yet??? Uhhhhhhhh. The last scene was loosely supposed to start a Sweet Home Alabama AU, this later one steals from Chalet Girl ("a snowmantic adventure"). Both of them cater to me and me alone, the Christmas/birthday present I personally want this month: in love but fucked up and apart, hurt/comfort Max/Daniel. Anyway, another snippet:

The party is in a huge fucking chalet in the middle of the Alps. Martijn drives there because he's on antibiotics for an infected toe and can't fucking drink, so he volunteers to let Max get as drunk as he wants and promises to get him home afterwards. 

They hear the music long before they reach the house, and there's a stream of expensive hire cars parked in the long drive. Martijn wants to get as close as possible so he can unload his stuff, so they inch past badly parked shiny four wheel drives on the way up to the chalet. Music thumps out of open balcony doors as girls in a variety of different amounts of layers spill out onto the terraces and the party lights make rainbow splashes across the snow. As their car makes its slow way up the drive, Max can see there's a party going on in a snowy hot tub outside too, everyone in bobble hats but seemingly nothing else.

They're being very stupid, Max thinks. The water is probably very warm but outside it's freezing, and he doesn't know where any of their clothes are. One of the hot tub partiers is climbing out now, to a cacophony of shouts as his bare feet hit the snow. He's clearly fucking wasted, slip-sliding crookedly in the snow, completely fucking naked except for a backwards baseball cap and, inexplicably, a single oven glove on one hand. 

"Fuck," Max says, because the guy's so drunk he's paying no attention to their car. He's stumbling directly into the road. There's just something—

Something familiar—

Max's heart pounds. 

Martijn hits the brakes. The car loses traction and skids; Max should have fucking driven. 

In front of them, absolutely fucking wasted and with one hand touching the car, is Daniel.
