hey, haven't seen you in a while, how's it going?

Hey, thanks for the ask!

Things have been....difficult, the past few years. In 2020, right before the world wide lock downs, I moved across the world. My flight was literally one of the last ones allowed into Japan. I had to transition to a new job while in quarantine, then a second transition to face to face work. As I have briefly mentioned ages ago on this blog, before I moved, I lived at home and I was my mother's primary caretaker. Among other things, she had some kind of early onset dementia, cyclic vomiting syndrome, and kidney disease. After I left, my brother and dad took over her care. In early 2022, she passed. If I'm being quite blunt, she passed because at this point of the pandemic, people were beginning to refuse to wear masks, to stay socially distanced, and to take other preventative measures such as air ventilation and filtration. There have been, and continue to be, reams of research on the topic of covid, and it has been handily ignored in the US by both individuals and institutions alike. The local hospital discharged her because she could "eat a cracker and not vomit it up", because they "needed the hospital beds for people who had covid", and because "she would last until her next appointment with her kidney doctor". My mom died of kidney failure and the resulting high blood toxicity, which was entirely preventable if only someone had bothered to adjust her medications and get her on dialysis. Yes, I am very bitter and angry and frustrated, especially with people who have the nerve to ask me why I still mask in public as if covid has magically gone away and is not the cause behind a mass disabling event across the globe. At the same time, I found that my job was...not what I had hoped for. It was only upon my departure that I found out it was breaking a number of labor laws in Japan and was highly exploitative of its employees, to the point that there is currently an ongoing court case and public scandal. No, I will not be going into detail here. It led to a great deal of disillusionment and burn out on my part. I returned to the US in April after four years abroad, and quite frankly I am unsure if I will ever return to Japan except for vacations. The only silver lining is upon explaining my situation in detail to trusted Japanese friends, they assured me that my situation was very unusual even for the country that literally has a word for "death from overwork". I am currently a substitute teacher while I debate next steps for my life. Unfortunately, this all meant that pretty much every aspect of my life has suffered in the past four years. I have not pursued most of my hobbies, while I was in Japan I only regularly talked to one of my friends, and my health (both physical and mental) declined. I am in the midst of trying to recover, and its only been within the last month that I've had the genuine desire to return to long form fic writing, as opposed to rp scribblings and spitballing I've been doing with friends in private. ....wow, this is all super depressing, haha. It's only when I look back that I realize how awful the last four years have been for me. There were bright spots, I promise, and I am looking forward to the next part of my life, whatever it might be. I've also spent this last summer making up for lost time in enjoying myself, and there's been a lot of joy in making plans for myself. But overall, this is the broad strokes of how I have been doing.

It's an ambiguous time period between 2007 and 2009, and a youth is sitting at their family computer. An online friend on a forum they frequented introduces them to a little website called tektek. This site had all the avatar building assets from Gaia Online (not the forum i frequented back in that day by the way) without having to own any of the items, providing an easy-ish way to show off your RP characters, or to just build stuff for funsies. This youth would not go on to make an actual Gaia Online account until 2017, having learned that tektek has been long shut down and Gaia had instituted a similar sort of avatar building function on their own website. It's just not the same ):

Elenora came about from playing around with what was available in tektek and making up lore for her and the world around her in my head. By this point in time I was kind of starting to feel The Shame™ around my creative interests and never saved whatever I built of the characters I made for this world and rarely drew them out. I even have a specific memory of tracing over one of those How to Draw Anime books to make Elenora and her sister and then throwing the drawing away in the shitty transparent plastic trashcan I had in my bedroom. However, since I recreated Elenora so many times in tektek I still remember what most of her base items were like a decade and a half later.

In Elenora's world, everybody is born with a specific power which is shown by the color of their eyes, hair, and the magic marks on their body. It was mainly elemental stuff like controlling fire or water or electricity or whatever, but a specific one I remember that wasn't an elemental thing was the ability to communicate with animals and get them to do what you want them to if you were powerful enough. Most people had one power type but it was still possible to be born with two powers, usually manifesting in a separate hair and eye color. The amount of magic marks on someone's body correlates to how much potential power they have, and once in a lifetime there's one person of each power born with all the marks, similar in the concept to the Avatar from AtLA but they're all separate girls that are born at the same time and the ones from the last generation don't die right when the next generation is born.

Elenora was born with full black marks, which gives illusion powers and control over shadows. However, she lives in an authoritarian society where those with black mark powers must be killed. She was born alongside a twin sister in a home birth, and their parents kept Elenora's birth a secret until she was able to use her illusion powers to disguise her marks. Things were all fine and dandy with Elenora honing her powers in secret until one day their house got raided and her sister sacrificed herself, claiming she was the one disguising herself to hide black marks instead. This sets Elenora off on a journey along with the ghost of her sister to find all the other girls with full marks and have adventures and overthrow her kingdom's government or something. One specific adventure plot I remember involved them running into a necromancer doing shit in the graveyard where her twin sister is buried, and her ghost merging with her zombie body brings her back to life. Unfortunately, I don't remember anything about what kind of personality she might have had besides "guilt over dead sister."

Shen’dralar: Ilyssae’s mother was never on fantastic terms with the other Eldre’thalas Highborne, and Ilyssae and her brother kept largely to themselves during those last couple centuries before Dire Maul was abandoned. That being said, some older Shen’dralar may remember seeing Ilyssae in passing, or have even suffered her presence when she was a petulant, brooding youth!

Field Research and Academia: Ilyssae went through a variety of teachers and learning institutions before finally clicking with her mentor Eoselle. Her magic studies these days are mostly independent, but she’s spent enough time in Stormwind, the Azuremyst isle, and Dalaran that fellow wizards and scholars might have worked with her on one thing or another however briefly!

Extended family: Naga, blood elves, high elves, Nightborne, or even the spidery fal’dorei—elves are kind of known for having evolved any which way in the aftermath of the Sundering, and Ilyssae’s family tree is full of holes after millennia of neglect. It’s entirely possible that she has a long-lost relative walking around in a different shape.

Fence-hopper: Although she is technically still an Alliance citizen, Ilyssae distanced herself from the kaldorei after the frosty reception her kind received post-Cataclysm (a decision she’s finally starting to second-guess) and is now working for a trading caravan crewed by oddballs and outcasts from both the Alliance and Horde. Maybe you’re one of her mixed-faction work acquaintances—or maybe you see her as a faction traitor and have a serious bone to pick with her.

Druid…?: Ever since coming back from the Shadowlands with golden eyes (and that’s a whole other story in itself), Ilyssae seems to have a new affinity for natural magic. However, she’s still stuck in the rigid thinking of a mage, so she’s always looking for Druids who have the patience and inclination to help her figure out this new side of her magic.

At some point in the fall I'm going to think of opening up a separate account for a new rp blog, as a test to see how I like that way of doing things. I have a number of muses and blog ideas for that blog, but I'll start with an oc of mine who is very different from Vayu and Eden.

Aki Hoshiyama, from a "young adult magical girls" writing/worldbuilding project of mine, is a guardian (the magical transforming fighters of this setting).

Aki is charming, witty, fun at parties, and unphased by horrific and gruesome things. That makes his role as one of his patron's secret assassins easier, but he uses these for his own reasons too. Unfortunately those purposes aren't very good either -- for anyone around him, or himself. Having lost all hope for escape, and his relationship with his childhood best friend turned lover turned sour and volatile by her unshakable faith in the same institution that traps him, Aki's turned to partying hard, playing with hearts, sabotaging anything he thinks he can get away with wrecking (including his own side's plans) and engineering his own downfall. He semi-regularly tries to goad his friends, enemies, and lovers into trying to kill him and kicks their asses if they actually try. There's a lot wrong with him, but there is a heart still in there, no matter how hard he tries to bury it.

As for his actual guardian powers -- he has a vampire/shinigami theme going on. His weapon is a scythe. His power is he draws blood, he can track you down wherever and basically lifesteal.

Also he's a trans man.

I have some art of him that I drew!

But I may play a different OC or a canon muse instead for the standalone blog experiment. Depends on how I feel when fall comes round. But, he is the only muse with a potential URL idea, so hm.

its so fascinating how so much of modern fantasy buys into the very fantasy LotR denies. Most modern fantasy is about being that Heroic power-fantasy. About good amassing power to rival evil. But LotR dares not to. It dares to be honest that there is no world where anyone amasses that power and remains good. I guess that's one of the reasons its so compelling. -- hedgehogoftime

I think this is one of the things that leaves me cold about HP RPs. Even the ones that are "slice of life" still buy into the heroic power fantasy by virtue of that's the status quo of the magical world.

As soon as you start to question the "goodness" of the good characters and institutions (even the ministry, which is arguably pretty corrupt in canon!), nobody wants to play anymore.

Crossover RP Idea

So I have an idea! Just gonna throw it out there and see if anyone bites! This Crossover is between The Anime; My Hero Academia, Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba. The Game; Twisted Wonderland Here's the idea:

I would keep it with the magic base of TWST like with what I'm doing with Amaya already. Everyone has magic, there are still heroes villains, and mythical beings.

There would be five schools in this version; UA, Shiketsu, NRC, RSA, and Kimetsu Academy.

Muzan would be the principal, and Kagaya would be the vice principal. The Nine Hashira are like dorm leaders, divided dorms based on magic type. (Ie. Mist, Stone, Flame, Sound, etc.) With most of the cast being students.

But instead of a rivalry going on, they're all civil. And visiting is allowed on all campuses with the correct forms filled out.

So relatively, the relationship is good, with a few hiccups every now and then.

Now let's establish some villains; Overblots, The League, and demons. Overblots- Overblot is a form taken by those who overuse their magic and let their negative emotions "blot" their magic wands. Their aura and appearance is mostly dark. Moreover, an entity appears alongside them, having a stitched-together body and head of glass leaking ink.

The League- is a villain organization made up of powerful villains that threaten to destroy the hero society. The League was founded and led by All For One and is now led by Tomura Shigaraki. They are the main antagonists of the series, and first appeared during the U.S.J. Arc.

Demons- are a carnivorous, vampire-like species whose primary diet is humans. They are also nocturnal as they are weak to sunlight, though they also stay up during the day as they don't require sleep.

Overblots and the League would be the same. And so would the demons. To an extent. Demons have the choice of being heroes (As Kimetsu Academy is a semi-hero school) villains, (Basically, delinquents or bad guys who hide it and go to the school), or anti-heroes (In between good and evil and act outside the hero laws while still doing their version of good). The demons would still be run by Muzan, in secret. All the upper and lower moon demons in the series are demons but can go in the sun and don't technically need to eat people to survive, though some still do.

They would be like the league but try to take out heroes from the inside. Also not allied with the LoV. Kagaya would still be teaching heroism. And all. Basically, it creates a semi-secret inner school war.

Now let's explain schools Royal Sword Academy- Considered one of the two powerhouse schools in the world of Twisted Wonderland along with Night Raven College. It's NRC's rival school and has beaten them in Spelldrive tournaments for 99 years straight.

Night Raven College- Night Raven College is an all-boys academy and the main setting of Twisted Wonderland. It is a four-year magic educational institution located on top of a mountain on the north side of the Isle of Sages.

UA- is an academy that boasts the best heroics education in Japan. It sits atop a forested hill that overlooks Musutafu.

Shiketsu- is the one Hero Academy that can match up to U.A. High School in terms of prestige. It is the best school for heroes in training in the West as U.A. High is in the East.

Kimetsu Academy- is a spin-off universe in the modern world based off characters in Kimetsu no Yaiba main story.

RSA, NRC, and Kimetsu Academy are semi-hero schools as they have Hero courses but also courses for other jobs.

Meanwhile, UA and Shiketsu- are mainly hero schools that mostly have hero courses and hero-based jobs.

As such, RSA, NRC, and Kimetsu Academy have to visit UA and Shiketsu because they need tips and advice from 'real' hero schools for their hero students to be. Also, with the help of Shiketsu and UA the students applying to RSA, NRC, and Kimetsu Academy who want to be heroes get to see that they will have contact with UA and Shiketsu for more advanced learning on hero laws and training.

Students who are already students at the semi-hero schools can apply to be in a hero course four times a year (The beginning of the year, the winter break, the spring break, and the summer break) where they will often be trained by volunteer heroes in not top-ranked students. (Ie, the Big 4 for UA and the top ten for Shiketsu)

Top tier students would be; The Big 3- UA The Top 10- SHiketsu H Dormleaders/ Vice dorm leaders- RSA V Dormleaders/ Vice dorm leader- NRC The Hashira- Kimetsu Academy ~~ If you are interested please reach out through Tumblr DMs!

Part 4: The Faculty Assembles

At dawn, owls departed from the Obelwarth estate, each bearing a carefully crafted letter addressed to a distinguished wizard or witch—a select few with the expertise and the passion Nielsen sought. These were seasoned legal minds and promising scholars who had dedicated their lives to the law. He invited them not just to teach, but to become architects of a legacy that would elevate the study of wizarding law for generations to come.

One by one, the responses arrived. Some replies were hesitant, others enthusiastic, but each one held a glimmer of intrigue. And before long, the chosen educators began to arrive at the estate, each bringing their unique insights and talents to the institute.

Professor Elwes Wystan was among the first. A former Ministry of Magic judge, Wystan was known for his imposing presence and unyielding commitment to justice. He would teach Introduction to Wizarding Law, drawing from his years in the courtroom to guide students through the basic tenets of magical legislation. With a voice as commanding as his reputation, Wystan would set the foundation for every future lawyer to come through the institute’s doors. A tall, imposing figure with a strong jawline and piercing blue eyes, reminiscent of a classic British aristocrat. His silver hair is slicked back, revealing a prominent forehead and a sharp nose. He has a commanding presence, often dressed in a tailored black suit with a crisp white shirt and a black tie. His voice is deep and resonant, with a hint of a Received Pronunciation (RP) accent.

Then came Professor Alethea Silvermist, a renowned expert in Magical Ethics and Professional Responsibility. I. Hogwarts is an 18+ only environment. Please understand that this server allows NSFW threads, and the age limit is for safety. Please do not lie.

II. We are a Literate+ group, this means one-liners are not allowed outside IC chatrooms, and we have a minimum of two paragraphs per scene response. All RP excluding the IC chatrooms MUST be in Third Person.

III. Keep your character realistic to the world, and adhere to the rules in the lore. To keep things fair, and to add a bit of fun to the experience, we ask that members use dice rolls to determine the outcome of various circumstances.

Anything that can fit in a Strength, Casting, Dexterity, Performance, Intelligence, or Charisma Check MUST be rolled for.

Please keep in mind that you can only control YOUR character. Be realistic about the world in character, your character and player knowledge will vary and differ– Your character won’t know everything you do, so please don’t act like they do otherwise.

IV: If you choose to play a character that breaks the rules, or a character that likes to push the other limits, please be prepared for in-character consequences depending on the circumstance. Try to remember what is realistic, allowed legally, and the consequences of them before you act. If you are unsure about the consequences of an action, staff will happily discuss it with you.

V. Make sure you communicate with your roleplay partner before a scene. Do not do things such as flirting, bullying, or fighting without first making sure it’s been discussed and agreed upon. We also ask that members try and work things out privately if issues arise, however staff is happy to act as a mediator.

VI. While we do understand the appeal of aesthetics, refrain from using any fancy fonts in the RP entirely. We like to keep things easy to read. without the extra aesthetics. This also goes for overusing formatting like italics and bold. This is to help keep things readable for those who are visually impaired.

VII: NO AI USAGE IS ALLOWED AT ALL. Anyone found using AI for replies will be banned immediately, those who use it in their applications will have a chance to change it before being accepted. Refusal will result in a permanent ban from the server. There are no exceptions.

VIII: Muns are allowed to make three characters for free, however, your first character MUST be a first year student.

Your second and third free character slot can be either a Professor, a Ministry Employee, or a Civilian. Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Character Slots must be purchased, but can be used to make older students if preferred.

Please remember that Students will be aged 18 - 25, and first years MUST be 18 BEFORE the start of the September semester. IX: FCs can be anyone, as long as they have some sort of Social Media presence. This means models, influencers, musicians, etc, will be allowed. It's an ambiguous time period between 2007 and 2009, and a youth is sitting at their family computer. An online friend on a forum they frequented introduces them to a little website called tektek. This site had all the avatar building assets from Gaia Online (not the forum i frequented back in that day by the way) without having to own any of the items, providing an easy-ish way to show off your RP characters, or to just build stuff for funsies. This youth would not go on to make an actual Gaia Online account until 2017, having learned that tektek has been long shut down and Gaia had instituted a similar sort of avatar building function on their own website. It's just not the same ):

Elenora came about from playing around with what was available in tektek and making up lore for her and the world around her in my head. By this point in time I was kind of starting to feel The Shame™ around my creative interests and never saved whatever I built of the characters I made for this world and rarely drew them out. I even have a specific memory of tracing over one of those How to Draw Anime books to make Elenora and her sister and then throwing the drawing away in the shitty transparent plastic trashcan I had in my bedroom. However, since I recreated Elenora so many times in tektek I still remember what most of her base items were like a decade and a half later.

In Elenora's world, everybody is born with a specific power which is shown by the color of their eyes, hair, and the magic marks on their body. It was mainly elemental stuff like controlling fire or water or electricity or whatever, but a specific one I remember that wasn't an elemental thing was the ability to communicate with animals and get them to do what you want them to if you were powerful enough. Most people had one power type but it was still possible to be born with two powers, usually manifesting in a separate hair and eye color. The amount of magic marks on someone's body correlates to how much potential power they have, and once in a lifetime there's one person of each power born with all the marks, similar in the concept to the Avatar from AtLA but they're all separate girls that are born at the same time and the ones from the last generation don't die right when the next generation is born.

Elenora was born with full black marks, which gives illusion powers and control over shadows. However, she lives in an authoritarian society where those with black mark powers must be killed. She was born alongside a twin sister in a home birth, and their parents kept Elenora's birth a secret until she was able to use her illusion powers to disguise her marks. Things were all fine and dandy with Elenora honing her powers in secret until one day their house got raided and her sister sacrificed herself, claiming she was the one disguising herself to hide black marks instead. This sets Elenora off on a journey along with the ghost of her sister to find all the other girls with full marks and have adventures and overthrow her kingdom's government or something. One specific adventure plot I remember involved them running into a necromancer doing shit in the graveyard where her twin sister is buried, and her ghost merging with her zombie body brings her back to life. Unfortunately, I don't remember anything about what kind of personality she might have had besides "guilt over dead sister."

This time around, out of blog rp will be possible, and I’ll accept magic anons sometimes. Just be on the lookout for when I do.

This blog will be open to high stakes, and will have topics of hybrids and eebydeeby’s in the future so if that’s a thing you don’t want to be associated with you’ve been warned here.

#Mylo’s drabbles - this one’s for when the muse gives their opinion on something. I don’t really see the need to tag everything as a Mylo post since it’s their blog, soo yeah.

#Relic on the phone - sometimes, Mylo’s pokemon might appear on the blog! The vulpix knows how to read, though she has a language barrier that’s a bit more pronounced than her trainer so she might speak mostly in french.

For convenience’s sake, I’ve attached the tags to this post so you can read up on them. I’ll update this post when more’s added.

Although my muse and I are adults, I remain uncomfortable with erp. Most you’ll see from me is a dirty joke tagged as suggestive. I tend to tag those things with just the name of the thing to make it easier to filter.
