This is still the best promo art the anime ever got btw. Ja’far as the laughing carefree drunk, Alibaba just INHALING food while Sharrkan tries to protect his own from Masrur. I wanted more of this so desperately

The timelapse for the first illustration for ch34
Drakon's head was made with a symmetry ruler. And then I shifted his feature with warp tools. I made the brush I used for the pattern on Ja'far.

Since it's probably gonna be a while before I post anything for it, I do wanna talk about this one AU idea that I have for Pandora's Box that I absolutely adore but won't be following through with in Pandora's Box. I call it 'Magi Prince' AU.
Spoilers for chapter 4 and possibly later parts of Crafting Pandora's Box below.
The long and short of it is that Hanako gets outed as a Magi while recovering from the car crash from Chapter 4. The dumbasses end up attacking her at the hospital and, in her panic, she takes Makoto and Komaru and flees back to the Shizuoka Tribe.
Something that I've alluded to but haven't fully expanded on for the Magi is that a lot of their culture has been lost over time. The Magi once had this huge global civilization roughly ~35,000 years ago that imploded upon itself. When it did, it resulted in the formation of several Magi Tribes across the globe, each of which developed different ideas of what that culture was like based on the fragments their ancestors thought to preserve. Couple this with extremely long lives (700 to 1000 years on average) and the few technology they salvaged, and you get the modern day Magi Tribes basically worshiping the ancient Magi Civilization.
The thing is, since they're only method to replace the Magi population is to find a human with an Amorphous Ultimate Talent and change them into a Magi, the Magi population has been on the decline for thousands of years. People who knew critical information began to die out before they could pass it on and tribes weren't getting new blood often enough to replenish their population. They lived long lives, but that meant nothing if a Magi was killed well before their time due to a human mob, or an accident, or an infection, or any other number of things. Tribes began to dissolve, with some Magi choosing to isolate themselves far out of human reach whereas others delved head first into learning how to blend in with humans.
This results in a situation where the Magi are losing very critical information about their original culture... such as their language. And Magian is the only language capable of spellwork in the Magi!AU.
This makes Hanako's knowledge and the notes her Teacher took while traveling the world - of Magian history, language, original culture, etc. - extremely valuable to the tribes that still exist. It's a very powerful bargaining chip for them.
So when Hanako returns to the Shizuoka tribe and is captured, that's what she uses to secure a safe place for her children to grow up. Because she knows what it's like to live in the wilderness; that's not something she wants for Makoto or Komaru, especially with human technology's recent rampant leaps. Raising them in isolation would be damning Makoto to never fitting in to any culture and depriving Komaru of that 'human' connection. She needs a compromise that will give them social skills and general knowledge of the world but also keep them away from the people now hunting them.
This means Makoto and Komaru are raised in Magian rather than Human and have been effectively home-schooled for the next eight to ten years of their lives. They've never stepped foot in a high school once in all that time.
It makes things very, very awkward for Hope's Peak Academy when they draw Makoto Naegi's name for the 78th class's Super High School Level Lucky Student and realizes the boy has been missing for almost a decade.

In the year before the decade change, they set the cats among the pigeons. We were so innocent. We pitied the poor Chinese, welded into their high apartment buildings. We saw video of them calling out their windows for food and help. We saw the Chinese in Italy dying at an unholy rate. A man from China flew to the Northwest, here, and became ill.
They are closing schools now. There are about a tenth of the schools that used to exist. Birth is rare and treacherous. Still men and women do make love and a few children come to birth. Some of them die a few days into life. A healthy child is a rare sight. Their play is carefully watched.
We don't have professional sports now. Too many were dying on the field. It became too horrifying. Most colleges and high schools have given up the tradition of team sports also. Living teen children are too precious. We hope some of them survive their early adulthood. A whole generation is weak and fewer than their parents' generation, or indeed their grandparents' generation. Boomers are stronger than their grandchildren. There are very few great grandchildren.
Goods and services are impossible. Groceries and pharmacies are only open for eight hours on weekdays. Most have self-checkout. No one wants to be at the check stand. Amazon is still standing. Most goods are handled by online shopping. Then we wait for the arrival of a shipment to our houses. Official shopping is done with gov. supplemental funds. It is never enough. Few of us have actual jobs. But they need some of us. We know how things work.
We didn't know it but, WWIII was waged against us. We thought it would take place in the usual way between tanks, guns and jets. There was a lot of Kabuki about Russia, Ukraine and China in the year 2023. But we didn't understand that we were their enemy and that they, the invisible and visible magi were our actual destroyers until it was too obvious to shy away from. The virus, but more, the vaccine, was the means of waging that war. For several years early on people believed and lined up for the shots. Around 2024 even the loudest proponents became silent. That was a relief anyhow.
Still, they needed goods and services, so there are farms, largely poorly run mechanical food factories. There are also special dark farms that run the old way, so that there are good things for them. There are factories for their needs and department stores for them to shop in. We don't have the money, even if they would let us in. You must have a special invisible tattoo on your left cheek for the doors to open to you. There is a reader at the door.
On the street level there are two types of people. We are the survivors walking a tight rope for life. Then there are the bees. Worker bees for the comfort of the powerful and elite. Many of them were what we believed were illegals coming here on their own. But they were brought here to take the place of natives. They mind things for their owners and keep the streets nice to look at. We don't drive cars. They outlawed normal gas runners. There are cars tucked everywhere, unusable. We walk and ride the rare and unreliable buses. They drive fine strange vehicles.
All real houses of sincere worship were closed in 2025, for offensive language and racism. They house third world migrants in them now, also in the hotels and some of the closed high schools and larger buildings of all types. There are home meetings. It's hard to get an invitation to one because of the danger of betrayal.
We make our own music. We use everything up. We make our own food at home. We plant gardens and hope that they escape notice. We keep chickens. We mend clothing. There are tons of used stuff. Everywhere you look there are the material possessions of the dead. We look funny in our secondhand outfits. We try to stay away from medical care. Too many of us go into a hospital, but never come out. We think euthanasia is the main treatment there.
In 2026 President Harris signed a directive making medical care the business of the government. You don't want to end up in a hospital unless there is no other choice. Better to die in peace at home if you must.
There are no more funerals. They outlawed them. Each town has its own crematorium. We are not sure what they do with the ashes. When a family member dies and is processed, the family receives a document officially acknowledging the death.
They tell us we are happy. But we are very weary. Everything changed after the great Reorg. We try to tell the children how life was. You can't blame them for thinking it has always been like this. There is not much in the way of history taught, just stories about how much better it is now. We try to keep our children out of the govco schools. For one thing, schools are literally not safe for a child. We teach them the basics at home.
We have a black underground economy. We have our own currency. They destroy anything they find having to do with our means of buying and selling. But we just start up a printing shop somewhere else and issue new bills, dated when they were made. Old ones lose value quickly. There is a lot of barter where it makes sense. We know we will probably not be able to keep this up forever.
Forever. We know who we are waiting for, and we see the signs. Against all odds, the Temple Mount in Jerusalem is in the the hands of the Israelis. They made a new temple and started the sacrifices again. There is no peace there. A strange malignant figure is being spoken of.
Even so, come Lord Jesus. December of the year 2030.
Much more to come

Send me "Thoughts on" + a Character name and my muse will give their opinions of that character. || ACCEPTING!
Since this is an in-character meme, I got silly and randomized my muses and made them each talk about one other muse, so those are below the cut since it's a longer post.
Settas Opinion on Masrur:
"Masrur...? Is that his name?" Setta paused, as if pondering deeply before he answered. "Well he seems like a good guy. Dependable and such, which is cool." A small hum left the ice mage, and he added onto the end.
Tumblr media
"He's also buff, which is totally attractive. So thats a plus."
_________________________________________
Judals Opinion on Kouha:
"Kouha? Hes weird." The Magi sighed deeply, his tone blunt.
Tumblr media
"He acts like he wants to make a mess of things, but only when Kouen and Koumei aren't around. Its boring. If he spent more time with me we could have fun, buuut.." he shrugged. "I guess hes fine to hang around with."
_________________________________________
Sinbads Opinion on Aladdin:
"His name is Aladdin? He looks nice!"
Tumblr media
The boy seemed pleased, swinging his legs as he spoke. "He said he travels a lot too! I wanna know more!" granted that was his opinion on anyone that had a story to tell, but still.
_________________________________________
Kou!Aladdins Opinion on Setta:
"Setta...? Never heard of him. But he seems to know the Empress?"
Tumblr media
Which was strange, considering his informal nature. Usually people who came to see her were much more refined. "He's kind of weird. He doesn't fit in here at all." But in truth? The little Magi thought that was kinda cool in its own way.
_________________________________________
Aladdins Opinion on Pisti:
"Miss Pisti? Shes super nice!" Aladdin hummed with a bright smile at the mention of the blonde general. "I like her animals, and she makes pretty music for us when shes around." He liked playing his flute with her, at the very least.
Tumblr media
"She's not as pretty as Yamu-san is, though.."
_________________________________________
Vittels Opinion on Sinbad:
"The little Sinbad...? I mean, Hes so cute--!"
Tumblr media
The lavender haired assassin couldn't help the happy laugh that left him. He had a soft spot for kids, and Sin was no exception. "I can't believe hes the same guy as Sin, its crazy~" was that a dig at the King?
_________________________________________
Mystras' Opinion on Judal:
"Judal's a brat." Mystras didn't bother mincing his words, his expression going sour at the mention of the Magi. "Him and that Princess... I don't trust either of them." With that he sighed, though.
Tumblr media
"But even if I don't trust them, I do trust Sinbad. He wouldn't steer us wrong."
_________________________________________
Pistis Opinion on Mystras:
"I didn't get to know Mystras very well, but he seemed like a nice guy."
Tumblr media
Pisti made a face. She joined the Eight Generals well after the First Sindrian War. Those that perished during the conflict were... less than familiar to her. "...Spartos has told me a lot about him." And based solely on what he had said? Pisti was sure she would have liked him a lot.
_________________________________________
Masrurs Opinion on Vittel:
"...Vittel was a good friend."
Tumblr media
Masrur didn't like thinking about the War, about who they had lost. The memory of standing vigil over Rurumu... still felt fresh despite the years that had passed. But he inhaled deeply, glancing to the side. "He was always looking out for the younger members of our group.." he didn't get it at the time, but he appreciated it now. "It's a shame he's not here." that any of them weren't here. He didn't seem to want to say anything else.
_________________________________________
Kouhas Opinion on Kou!Aladdin:
"Aladdin is pretty fun." Kouha hummed at the mention of his countries Magi. "A bit naive, but I appreciate him." He did stop, glancing around to see who was near before continuing.
Tumblr media
"Theres something about him. A look in his eyes... I just hope he stays safe. That's all."

request: hiya! I was wondering if you’d be able to write for sinbad? perhaps where the reader is feeling a bit deflated when sinbad is accused of sleeping with the emperors daughter? :)
summary: i basically had the majority of this reply written last year on my other account ( @iimuchakk ), just never finished it, so I just did it quickly now cause I wanna post something magi cause i love magi. it’s more angsty(?) then what I was going for when I first wrote it, but yeh.
sinbad isnt to sure how to feel about this. on one hand, he understands your frustration. after all he’s a ladies man, being dubbed “lady killer of the seven seas” because of it, but on the other hand, with the help of yamuraiha’s magic, he was able to prove his innocence. so at first sinbad brushes the matter off, just patting you on the shoulder with a faint smile as the lament your worries to him, though he grows frustrated when your mood beings to sour the more he ignores it. still a bit uncertain, since he did not sleep with the pinkette empress, the king turns to saher for help. surely another wife will be able to clear up the situation for him.
now, sinbad was expecting the situation to be cleared up, but he wasn’t planning on sitting through a four hour lecture on the matter. sindria’s king felt like a child as he sat, pale faced on a stool, listening to saher’s analysis on the situation.
“you mean to tell me that all your closest friends believed you had slept with the princess—! how embarrassing that must have been for your poor betrothed!” she fained, placing one hand on her forehead as she imagined the suffering for herself. suddenly, her eyes landed on the shrunken purple haired man and narrowed. “true or not sinbad, you flirt with every woman in sight. imagine how much they must love you, standing strong whilst everyone blamed you for sleeping with someone other then them, and then having you heed no attention to them afterwards. all eyes must have been on her, judging her, making her feel like she couldn’t please you—“
“alright, alright...” sighed sinbad, scratching the back of his neck as the guilt he’d been prolonging finally began to settle in. “i think i understand now. thank you saher.”
with a new perspective, sinbad spent the rest of the day trying to figure out how to show to his wife, and others, that he was a loyal man now, through and through. admittedly he was still unsure about what angle to approach this from considering he was still pretty prideful, but he knew he had to suck it up and just do what he knew was right.
when he entered your shared room, sinbad rose an eyebrow at your form seated at your make up table, angrily raking your hands through your hair and tugging the locks from your frustrations. in the reflection of the mirror, you saw him, made eye contact, huffed, and then continued your nightly routine.
“alway’s a delight to see you too.” joked sinbad, from both amusement and annoyance, not really a fan of such a rude exchange though it’s not like you were going to smother him in kisses right now. you didn’t reply to him, instead you just roll your eyes so far back sinbad for a split second is worried you’ll do blind, and sighs in relief when they fall back into place. the silence remains strong, as does your resolve to keep your distance from sinbad and his womanizing ways as he stands in your shared room, it seems.
what could he do? sure, he had all the money in the world, but a new dress or gold chain wasn’t going to fix the clearly wavering faith you had in him. the thought, at first, made him bristle, though upon inspection he came to the conclusion you were right to have that perception of him. it’s not like he dosent flirt back with his harmen, chuckle when they rub his muscles and coo words of sweet nothingness into his ears. hell, the fact he even still had a harmen was terrible in and of itself.
how long would you put up with this? he wondered, as he noticed the tears now welling up in your eyes as he watched you through the reflection in the mirror. would he even put up with it, if you were doing the same?
as dribbled of black from your make up dribbled down your cheeks, a sudden wave of emotion crashing over you as your husband just stood there, stiff and struggling for words, sinbad couldn’t help but sigh, running his chunky fingers through his hair as he turned his attention to the view from the balcony, the sun seemingly beginning to set on this hell of a day.
“ . . . i’ll try to be better.” but would he?

Some canon-compliant slice of life headcanons for the Eight Generals/Sindria
Yamlikha and Masrur dated once, seemingly to spite Sharrkan specifically. It lasted about a week before Ja'far told them to stop because it was "disrupting the peace" (Sharrkan wouldn't stop crying to him about it)
Not many people from Sasan moved to Sindria due to cultural and religious customs. So Spartos struggles to find company outside of his overbearing colleagues. He did remain friends with the squad of enbies Sharrkan and Pisti introduced him to.
Sinbad used to wander the streets of Sindria in disguise. Keeping tabs on the general vibe among the citizenry. Sometimes joining the fishermen if he was feeling nostalgic. Until he got too busy for that and resorted to eavesdropping with Zepar's power.
The recipes Ja'far teaches to the palace cooks are the ones Rurumu taught him. It's his way of keeping her memory alive at the heart of Sindria. It’s appreciated by those in the palace that were around when she was.
Sinbad enjoys sparring with the military Generals on occasion and uses it to blow off steam. Or at least he does with Hinahoho, Sharrkan, Spartos and Masrur. Drakon refuses to spar with him or anyone else. Sinbad seems to intuitively understand his reason, but everyone else finds it disappointing.
Pisti taught Aziza to fake cry in order to better garner Sharrkan's sympathy.
Yamlikha installed magical locks on her office door to keep people (Pisti and Sharrkan) from barging in and asking her to heal their random scrapes and bruises when SHE IS NOT A HEALER and there is an ENTIRE MEDICAL WING FOR THAT.
Drakon hoards due to his dragon instincts, but doesn't realize that he's doing it. This usually manifests as him bringing home some shiny nicknack he saw in a shop and immediately forgetting about it. Sahel resells most of it when things start getting crowded. She never mentions it to him because she finds it charming and knows he'd be embarrassed if someone pointed it out. At least they’re stimulating the economy.
Pisti's roc lives in a roost carved into the wall of the canyon that runs behind the palace. It’s name is probably something like Charlene or Margery. She takes it home every year to see it’s mate.
It is widely known that the seeds of the papagoreya fruit must be removed before export or they will leech poison during shipping. In reality this myth is perpetuated by farmers and sindrian merchants in order to keep a monopoly on the fruit. Foreign visitors often brag about getting to taste the fresh fruit “before the seeds are removed.” This conspiracy was Ja'far's idea of course.
Spartos returns home every year to partake in the Pilgrimage Feast. The dedicated party animals among the generals were furious to learn the nature of this holiday. It’s the one day of the year he allows himself to partake in drugs and tomfoolery and he goes and does it without them!

Sharrkan is the first person since Kassim to call Alibaba “Ali” and Pisti is the first since Mariam to use “Li” and “Li-Li.” The first time Alibaba hears those respective nicknames it throws him for a loop and his throat swells with emotion. He has to hide his face so they don’t see the tears in his eyes but he’s smiling all the same

mostly fun magi hcs because its the middle of the night !!
reblogs are very appreciated <3
- the idea of yamuraiha opening a magic schools makes me very very happy !!!
- in a modern au i think badr would be the kind of dad to write an email to future sinbad in every birthday of his until he turned eighteen
- sharrkan has a celebrity crush on sinbad (so, one sided and not that serious)
- sinbad is very sensible to certain fabrics to the point of getting actually mad if he touches them if it overstimulates him but he plays it off as his "im rich and want the best" persona
- sinbad very much calls himself the uncle of every single one of hinahoho and rurumu's kids
- at some point of ja'far's childhood he started calling rurumu his mom, hinahoho still tears up when he hears him and whenever he can he hugs him super tight without saying why
- for my own peace of mind pisti doesn't really talk to her mom or at the very least doesn't feel comfortable around her
- sharrkan/spartos is my jam!!! i think sharrkan is polyamorous too :)
- drakon is very very patient with kids. so much so, i could see him being the designated babysitter for hinahoho if anything comes up
- ^ i think that comes from the fact that nobody was patient with him when he was a kid and it was later paired with the fact that it isn't uncommon for children to be scared of his looks so he tries to make himself as approachable as possible and is very happy when a kid is comfortable around him ☹️💗
