Happy 15th Anniversary Magi~ Magi Appreciation 2/9 (?)
Next one is for Arba because again starting alphabetically hers was one of the first I finished. I don't know if I wanted to get hers all done at once because I wanted to have another set done quickly, wanted a villain set, or didn't want to have too much villainy dragging down all the future ones LMAO.
I will go off on another time about it, but her fights hit so hard. Please let women beat the shit out of others (including guys) and have the shit beat out of them. Equal opportunity beat-ups (I'm serious).

Tales about the mother of chaos
Landa is the (second) Magi of the Kou Empire, brought from Reim many years ago when she was nothing more than an innocent and naive child to what would become Al Thamen. The woman served primarily as a priestess and even worked in one of the organization's temples located in Parthevia 10 years ago when Al Thamen established itself in the country. That is, until the temple was destroyed by Sinbad, leading her and the rest of the organization to return to Kou. There, she had to live once again with the First Magi.
Landa had seen him before these events, but she didn't actually try to engage in a dialogue with Judal. However, the Magi tried to push her to the limit or provoke her capabilities as the "second Magi" something that yielded no results. After some time, Judal simply accepted her and began to live with her naturally. Judal has a sense of exclusivity, so for much of his youth, he felt compelled towards a one-sided competitiveness, which left him frustrated.
they are like:
Landa didn't mind doing the most important or the largest number of tasks, but she felt virtuously arrogant when she had some greater merit, something that infuriated Judal. Occasionally, she would find him to have tea in some secluded corner of the palace, where Judal would mainly complain but eventually talk about things that amused him throughout the day, generally involving carnage and misfortune, or comment on a conversation he had with the newly titled king of Sindria, Sinbad. Landa visited Sinbad in the company of Judal a few times, attentively paying attention to the Djinn user.
Landa is tremendously arrogant and has a grandiose ego, akin to the weight of the heavens on a mortal's shoulders. However, she does not express this directly, mainly adopting a passive-aggressive approach. This is only when she feels frustrated or unjustly treated; in general, she is a composed woman. Her egocentric behavior is mainly due to the time she spent with Gyokuen in Kou (a not exactly pleasant time).
Landa and Judal have a dynamic inspired mainly by the Kindred (yes, those from League of Legends), but I also think of them as yin and yang (and not just because of the colors). I write them as "opposite sides of the same coin" or "good and evil," "black and white," or even Padmé and Anakin, considering the inspiration for the character. The metaphor behind them is the complementary relationship, as it is something symbolic and beautiful, regardless of the interpretation the audience may have.
But if they have a relationship, would was like a:
(no ironically)

[Magi reread] Night 76: Smile
It's been a while, lmao. I did some fandom jumping, was pretty busy, too, but this chapter was dragging behind me, like, come on, last chapter of the arc! Part of the reason I'm back here is bc I'm kinda getting to the part in this Final Arc rewrite where it'd be fucking nice to have some background info on a few characters. I mean, I know stuff in theory, but I also know myself enough to expect random changes during the actual writing process & it'd be a fucking pain if I wrote one version of events in flashbacks, and then went somewhere else in the actual prequel.
ANYWAY, chapter.
Bro, I love some of the final chapters of the arcs titles, especially Smile and Welcome Home (Magnostadt Arc), like, they just stayed in my brain. Why must you hurt me this way, Ohtaka.
I don't recall posting covers of chaptera too often, but this one is just so fucking sweet, man. And sad. It just... really does it for me, y'know? Smiling after everything that's just happened, but also it feels like a promise, especially after Cassim just fucking died like that (I will never recover) - now the three of them are a family. ;;
On a semi-related note, it's kind of what makes it difficult for me to ship any of them with each other. Even excluding Aladdin's age (not that Ohtaka has issues with such things, and boy will you hear it from me, but that's for later), I mentally familyzoned them. Interestingly, I'm more flexible with Cassim and Alibaba, though over time I also grew to prefer to view them as siblings. Like, I had a few CassAli AUs in the past, but I think I also wrote too much of Alibaba perceiving Cassim as his brother to come up with new ones. Now it'd just feel weird.
I'm still waiting for Silk for Steel update, tho.
Also, shoutout to me bc I thought: it's been a while, I'll check quick what I wrote about the previous chapter to kinda regain some context (yes, only now), and, yep, tears in my eyes. It happesn every time.
Ok, chapter.
I was going to ignore him, but, fine, you get a pic. He looks fucking exhausted. And no surprises here, tbh. He was using his magoi in battle and also got a little impaled, too.
Is he, really?
I'm still mad at Al-Thamen resolution or the lack of it. Like, bro, look at this pic, it's so messed up? What the hell? Right after Sinbad says that the fight isn't over, we get this, and, like, yeah, there's a shitton of these guys left here.
I miss Al-Thamen being threatening.
Is it the first time First-Class Singularity is used referring to Sinbad? I might be wrong, but if not first, then one of the first ones.
On a different note, I kinda chuckled, seeing that they refer to Alibaba as Aladdin's immature candidate to be the king, I mean, immature, and yet him and Aladdin managed to change the Flow. Imagine what they can do once they do mature? <3
Can I please get some details, Ohtaka? You mean similar situations as in Kings changing the Flow? What do you mean by that? But on the other hand, kinda makes me think about the Final Arc & the argument that everybody can see a little bit of destiny/change it. Heh.
Side-effect of taking a break from the manga reread is that I'm wondering if it's the first time we have that "Father" mentioned or not. Honest with ya, on my first read I definitely didn't pay attention to this, lmao.
Also, sick art.
Welcome back to my God I love Alibaba. I love kind characters. Of course he didn't want anybody to die, but something about the fact that he says "they surely still had many things they wanted to do", it's so... humanizing. Not of Alibaba (tho him, too), but of these people who died, who we know nothing about - they were just background characters, after all. But to Alibaba they were people who had their own lives and hopes and dreams. They had a meaning just because they existed.
It feels so... contrasting to Hakuryuu. He had no consideration for his own people, he just used them as means to an end, literally brainwashing them in an extremely painful ways that I very much did NOT forget, until they became nothing but puppets full of anger. Feels weirdly ironic, or maybe even metaphorical that he himself was a slave to his own anger, and so he turned those around him into his image. Ha.
Ugh, this smile is so sweet and gentle.
Anise! Wish we knew more of you : (
I'll save you the Rashid salt this time.
This entire page deserves to be there, imo. It's... beautiful.
"The flow never stops, it'll endlessly protect and be the ally of us, the living... that's why although a person's death is a tragic thing... It's no a farewell."
It... actually remind me a little about Avatar: the Last Airbender, specifically this quote "You have indeed felt a great loss, but love is a form of energy, and it swirls all around us. The Air Nomads' love for you has not left this world. It is still inside of your heart, and is reborn in the form of new love. Let the pain flow away."
I'm ignoring the other ones, I was always like, hah, seeing how Rashid is disappointed in them.
Tho still, shoutout to the guy who left his kids' in the care of his wife, and then was disappointed they didn't turn out how he wanted them to.
Bitch I'm sad
*squints* what is this expression
: ' )
Oh, hi, Morgiana.
As much as I complain about Magi's trio being actually a duo + Morgiana, I'll give a point here. It was pretty sweet that as the spirits were leaving, she run up to them.
Welp, that's the end of the chapter.
I checked the next chapter just in case, and, yeah. The anime has some stuff happen here, as in, Kou is close or something & there's some scene on the ship iirc, regarding leaving Balbadd... I complain about the anime a lot - and I will keep doing that - but I think it was a pretty good decision (idk about the execution, I don't remember). Jumping from Night 76 to Night 77 feels kinda weird. I legit had to take a second & check if I didn't miss some chapter.
Maybe Kou was mentioned sometime earlier & I just don't remember, but still. This really is the last pic of the chapter, and suddenly we're in Sindria.
Damn Ohtaka and her stupid timeskips.

first, the prince notices a pair of al-thamen men hurrying across the palace, looking panicked despite the lack of facial expression he can see. that hakuryuu shrugs off, only when he catches a glimpse of the black magi snickering where he sits dose the prince frown, knowing the man is up to something again. whatever it was, he wants nothing to do with it — still hakuryuu steps closer, speaking to judar for the first time probably this week. ❛❛ can’t you cause chaos away from my room ? ❜❜
"No", he replied with a sneer. Eyes lowering, purple eyelids frame the malicious expression, irises devoid of light.
"Unless you become one of my chosen, eh? C'mmon, Hakuryuu, you're behind your siblings." Judar spreads his arms, showing him an invisible crowd surrounding them.
"You know you want to, I'm your best choice." He smiles, that fake smile the prince probably despised. The veiled priests walk away, the fallen magi was playing his part, as he always did.
And only then Judar, takes a step closer, enough to whisper into his ear, shoulder against shoulder, Hakuryuu could feel the words roll down his lips. The eerily happy act is over, even his voice sounds different, darker, more adult.
"Power. You need it. Become my king vessel."

Reverse Isekai AU Type1 p1
It's Sinbad day/ Sinbad's birthday April 2nd, so I'm officially starting to post The Adventures of Simpbad :D
[AO3] [Wattpad]
SORRY THIS TOOK LIKE A YEAR (the first of these came in 2022 April 20)
~POV Mori~ Nearly two and a half years to the day since I started writing my magi Fanfic Sindria's Prophet I was once again heading to the basement to do laundry. Once again, my thoughts were full of Sinbad and plot bunnies. Once again, I was not paying attention to my steps and was overwhelmed by vertigo -only this time instead of expecting one more step, I was one short. Even though I caught my own fall, a series of loud bangs hurt my ears as the over packed storage to my left was practically bulldozed. This was followed by the sounds from the floor above me of my 3 cats scattering to find hiding places, and at least one human coming to investigate.
"What is this???" "Sin!" "I can't see the Rukh!!" "Is this Al Thamen's doing??" "What the hell???" "Drakon! Is that you??"
I was still in my basement, but they weren't still in Magi. The giant Hinahoho was sitting on the ground closest to me, and in one of the few places in the basement that had more the a 2 foot width of walking space. I couldn't see much past him but I had a pretty good idea of where everyone was from their voices. Sinbad was on the other side of him followed by Drakon -who I couldn't see past Hina for some reason. Slightly to my right I could see Pisti on a pile of boxes, and Sharrkan between her and the packed table on the same side. Yam and Spartos were probably stuck in the piles on the other side of the table. All of this would put Masrur either with the washer and dryer or in another pile of boxes on the left side of the room. I was really going to hate cleaning this later.
"My magic!!" Yam yelled, and there was another clattering sound as more things fell to the ground around her.
'Yam's seashell are held on by magic!' I climbed over the giant with a, "Pardon me, Hina!" and b-lined for the woman on the other side of the basement. She was covering herself with her hands. I ignored the questions pointed at me, took off my hoodie and put it around the magician. "Here. Wear this. This world doesn't have Rukh or magic." And before anyone who's read 'Sindria's Prophet' asks: I had a t-shirt under my hoodie this time because it was colder this year, so, no, I didn't just swap who's nips were freed.
All eyes were on me, but the only one I made eye contact with was Yamuraiha. She was distraught. "What do you mean there's no Rukh? Where are we??" Her knuckles were white as her grip on her staff -and my hoodie- tightened.
Before I could answer, the basement door was thrown open. "Mori!! Are you okay??" The comforting voice of my younger sibling and partner in crime was yelled into the room. "You didn't actually get Isekai'd did you??" This wasn't the first time they referenced my fanfic when there was a crash in the basement, but normally as a joke.
I yelled back. "It's worse!"
They rushed down the stairs. "How???"
"It's a reverse Isekai!" I smiled and spread my arms like an excited penguin in their general direction.
Lyly's silence and horrified, disgusted expression was punctuated by the silence and gaze of our new guests.
--- ~POV Sinbad~ Sinbad and his Generals were escorted upstairs, through a kitchen and another room full of pills of things, before being offered a seat in the living room. There were multiple cracks in the ceiling and walls. The dark Blonde that had showed up second, had ran ahead of them, and was escorting an older man out of the room when they entered it. Hina had to sit on the floor, and the brunette that helped Yam stayed standing, but Sinbad and the rest of his Generals were able to squeeze onto the split sofa.
The brunette introduced herself as "Mori," and reiterated what she had told Yam in the basement. "I'm sure you all have a bunch of questions," she continued, "but before that, it will be a lot easier for me to explain things if I know when you guys are from." She combed her hand through her hair before crossing her arms. "Have you met Aladdin yet?" She knew Aladdin? That got everyone's attention. "Ah- then has the war in Magnostadt happened yet?"
Yam gasped.
Ja'far answered the question just as surprised as everyone else. "It's hasn't been long since the war ended." Something very strange was going on. Sinbad and his Generals were famous, but those details and events weren't common knowledge.
Mori hummed. "Then ...," she looked directly at Sinbad, "have you already learned about Alma Toran at the summit-?"
"Hold on a second," the King cut her off. "How do you know all of that?" Even without the waves, it was obvious that Mori knew a lot more than she was letting on. A world without Rukh or magic? Sinbad wasn't sure he believed it. The last time he had been teleported without warning like this was during the fall of First Sindria when he met Al Thamen face to face, and that required magic. However, he couldn't use magoi manipulation no matter how hard he tried, nor could he feel the waves since arriving in this house, and he had a feeling that leaving out the front door wouldn't change that.
She looked around the room, judging everyone's reaction. "I'll be honest, I don't know if there's a tactful way to say this." Mori walked over to the table in the room covered in strange bars. "I think it would be better if I just show you." She picked up one of the bars and pressed one of the colored nubs on it; the large frame of flat black was filled with color. Before long, to all of their surprise, fascination, and horror, their own lives were being played before them through moving drawings.
"That's definitely us!" "What does this mean?"
The image froze when Mori hit another nub on the device. "So all of you are just characters in a story, and now you've been pulled into ... the world the writer of your story lives in -I'm not the writer of your original lives to be clear; I'm just a dedicated fan." Her shirt added proof to her statement since the scribble of white, purple and yellow on it was vaguely reminiscent of Sinbad -especially with the text "THIS IS A FLIRT ONLY ZONE" underneath.
This made even less sense then there not being any Rukh or magoi. Whatever his Generals started saying, Sinbad wasn't hearing any of it over his own racing thoughts. "If we're just characters in a story, how did this happen?"
Mori spent a minute thinking before answering. "Okay so, I have some theories involving multidimensional theory and string theory that could explain all cases of Isekai -teleporting into other dimensions. And quantum computers have managed to simulate pushing a qubit through a wormhole ((reported by the California Institute of Technology in Nov 2022)), and will probably be able to send whole atoms in the next decade... But I really doubt you're asking me to give you an hour plus long talk on quantum and theoretical physics. But even if I did there is no way to prove any of it is what happened to you."
"What I'm hearing is that you don't know."
"This could just be another story where you all were brought via a plot device."
"You have got to be joking."
Mori waved their hands to try to dispel the growing tension. "It is possible, but if I was the sole writer, I wouldn't have brought all of you here. My morals wouldn't have let me separate any of the Generals from their families, nor take Yam away from her magic like this. So it's even harder for me to tell if this is real or not, and I love breaking the fourth wall!"
The room went silent. How was any of this believable? No. How was any of this acceptable? Sinbad had things to do! He was about to make a huge leap towards realizing his dream! He was chosen by Fate to be King of the world and the new God! He wouldn't fail like Solomon did! --- ~POV Mori~ While our guests struggled with their new reality, my sibling came back from escorting our socially anxious father to his room. They looked at the Generals and then back at me. They had their phone out. "They're all adults, right?"
"Yeah." I answered. We had already discussed what we would do in the case of a reverse isekai for fun.
"Good. We'll need their consent to sell photographs. What cosplay could be more perfect than the actual characters?"
I laughed. "That's true. But Magi hasn't been main stream for a while, so we're going to have to branch out into original stuff fairly quickly." Actually, "Do we dye their hair or get them wigs?" Their hair colors all shifted to natural colors for this world when they got here -just like mine became anime colors in Sindria's Prophet. "I can always Photoshop it."
"Yeah. That's cheaper for now anyway." Lyly glanced at our guests. "I knew we'd have to sell feet pics to get by eventually, I just always thought they'd be yours."
I crossed my arms. "Same." I've been stopped by a few people in person asking to smell or touch my feet; someone even stopped a group conversation to offered me $1k in cash while we were still in front of everyone for me to give him a footjob -it wasn't even the first time he asked either. I said 'no' every time, but I have learned that my feet are apparently very sexy. It's a shame, because I really hate wearing shoes, but now I have to cover my feet every where I go for safety. the real fantasy of Sindria's Prophet is getting to walk around publicly in flip flops/sandels without being propositioned over my feet //jk
Lyly looked over at Drakon. "It's a real shame he didn't stay a dragon. The scaly market is under served."
"Right???"
It was at that moment that the guests got to a question I wasn't ready to answer yet.
"If we're characters from a story, what rolls did we play?" "Oh! That's a good question." "We were clearly central characters in what we saw."
As long as they only theorized amongst themselves-
"Excuse me, Mori." Ja'far took on the roll of the polite diplomat. "What were our rolls in the story? And," I did not like where this was going, "how did the story end?"
Fuck
All eyes were on me. This was something I refused to tell them directly in my fanfic -for good reason! Besides, I still didn't know when in the story they were from.
"Hehehehe" Lyly giggled from next to me. "Yeah, Mori. Why do you tell them all about it?" They're face was a shit eating grin. "You're always talking to us about it, so it's not like you don't know." They were digging my grave for me!
But I had already planned for how to deal with this exact situation in countless daydreams. I turned to our guests with my best customer service smile. "Even better than me telling you, why don't you read it yourselves?" Was not going put myself at risk by defaming Sinbad in front of Ja'far -even if I was telling the truth.
Lyly cut in again, "Both anime cut short of the manga though." They watched me with a smile. "How are they going to read it? I'm not going to give them my phone, and I doubt the Sir (our father) will either." They looked at my shirt for some reason and then back up at me. "But I guess it wouldn't matter if they used one of your devices."
My phone and my computers were plastered with my Sinbad obsession. I couldn't hand those over. Even if I let them use my main PC while I was at work, my room was full of Sinbad figs. I had them strategically placed so that anywhere I looked from my desk I would see a Sinbad to give me a boost of dopamine. I would not let that conceded man know how much I liked him. This was fine though because I had also planned for this eventuality. "That's fine actually. I'll just make a separate login on my laptop and give them that. My account is passworded anyway."
Lyly just raised their eyebrows and didn't say anything as they admitted defeat.
"You know what?" I continued triumphantly. "I'll go do that now. Could you go prepare tea or something for them?"
"Yeah, okay."
Hopefully that would distract everyone for a while. My family were all strong advocates for tea. Between Lyly and me, we owned around 30 different types of tea. And Lyly was magical with food. If they made something specifically catered to each person then it could take nearly 30 minutes. That would be plenty of time for me to make and set up a second account. --- When I was 4 1/2 years old, we had to move because my mom's job changed locations. At that same time she was pregnant with my younger sibling, so we also moved into a bigger home. My parents were sold a house they couldn't afford the upkeep on, but they wouldn't understand that for several years. And because of the economy crashing, both of my parents losing their jobs, metal health problems, addiction, and pride: my parents out right denied the idea of selling the house they couldn't actually afford to live in. And so even with them pulling out of their retirement savings every few years, our roof has poorly patched holes, the siding and paint is chipping everywhere, and all of the windows have something wrong with them -to name some of the growing problems. No matter how far we fell out of the middle class they would not sacrifice the status symbols they fought tooth and nail in their 20's to obtain. However, a real middle class family doesn't need financial aid for basic needs like we do.
At least in instances like this, their stubbornness came in handy. This house has a few more rooms than the average. Both of my parents were hoarders (naturally and because we were too poor to get rid of anything); 7 years after my mom's death, we were still clearing out her things, and fighting my father from adding to the problem. Luckily, in the past few years we had managed to mostly clear out the 2 rooms that had once been a dining room(now "the back room"), and home office/computer room (now "the den"). It would be cramped, but we would be able to fit all 9 of our surprise guests. Both the living room and the den each have a sofa with a pullout queen mattress, and since my dad was a literal hoarder that wouldn't let us throw things out, we have another old queen mattress in our basement, and a king mattress blocking the coat closet. The two old mattresses could be laid on the floor in the back room next to the den. All 4 of those would be enough to fit 9 people ....even with Hina being a giant. I decided to leave the end decisions for who would sleep where to our guests. If they could run a country, they could figure out their sleeping arrangements on their own.
Our nine guests stayed huddled around the laptop to start reading their Fate while my family and I got to clearing places for them to sleep. Eventually, they got bored with reading their own lives and started asking more about our world instead. Lyly and I took turns answering, and setting them up with educational videos while we got back to work. Ja'far, Drakon, and Spartos took turns helping us move things, and setting things up. Hina offered to help, but he was holding the laptop so he was stuck. There's no way we would have gotten everything moved before sundown without their help.
Having a lot of mouths to feed and a low budget, meant we were going to have to go back to making a lot of soup, pasta, rice, and sleep for even more meals. We're Italian Americans so we already have a lot of pasta. My stomach can't handle that much pasta though, so I switched to rice, and I was not about to switch back. Once Sinbad & Co are able to get an income we'll be able to eat better. --- ~POV Generals~ With the night creeping up on them, they decided to wind down and go to bed. There was a lot they all had to process. Mori left her laptop with them so they could look stuff up in the middle of the night. Their hosts were also able to find clothes to lend to all of them ...except for Hina. They had one shirt that was close, but it was still too tight.
That just left them with final decisions on sleeping arrangements. Hina would only fit on the king sized bed, so that was one down. The biggest question is who would get the den. Out of all of the rooms they had seen, the den was obviously maintained that best. There were only two stacks of boxes tucked away in different corners. Two of the walls had bookshelves built into them and were full from floor to ceiling. There was a solid wood desk that was a little cluttered but still nice. The TV, table, and sofa on the other side of the desk were also well taken care of. With the wall of windows on the other side of the room from the door, this was easily the most comfortable room in the house, and was the best option of the choices of sleeping arrangements given to them. It was also the closet in the den where all of their metal vessels and other personal items were being stored.
Sinbad cleared his throat to get the attention of his Generals. "I think we should let Yam use this room -and Pisti if she wants to join her. It's the only spot with a closable door." He smiled at their confused faces.
Ja'far called his bluff, "Are you sure? We all figured you'd want the room to yourself."
Sin's expression softened. "I'm sure. Yam won't be in any condition to be around others for a while. This will give her the privacy she needs." Yam was having a crisis now that she suddenly had no access to Rukh or magic.
Ja'far was proud that Sin wasn't as selfish as he was in his youth. "That's a good point." Their King always made sure that they were taken care of. It's why they never regretted following him. "Then where do you want to sleep, Sin?"
He smiled, "I'll be fine," and looked back in the direction of their hosts, "I have a feeling I'll be sleeping very comfortably during our stay here."
A voice came in from the other room, "Alright, sleep well, Mori."
"That's my cue." Sinbad dashed into the living room at the sound of his target leaving.
Masrur verbalized what they all were thinking. "Womanizer of the Seven Seas."
As much as his Generals mocked him, they were also his most dedicated audience, so they weren't far behind. They missed whatever Sin's opening line had been but they arrived just in time to see him with an arm around Mori. The man works quickly alright.
However, his target looked more confused than charmed. "What are you doing?"
Sinbad was normally the type to back down the moment his target wasn't receptive to him, but there was no way he wasn't going to not sleep on a bed or with a beautiful companion when he had the opportunity. His smile continued to glitter. "I'm following directions."
Mori looked up at him even more confused. Her voice cracked as she made some sound to request an explanation.
The King laughed, glanced at her shirt and then back up at her. "That is me on your shirt, isn't it?"
Mori's expression went blank as she watched him for a few seconds. When his words finally registered in her head, she looked down at her shirt. Her expression twisted in horror and disgust "Oh, Fuck Me!" Her free hand smacked into her face in shame.
Sin laughed again before teasing, "That is what I'm hoping to do."
There was silence for a moment as the whole room registered just how blatant Sin's comment was. Mori uncovered her face and glared daggers up at the man who had one arm still wrapped around her. "You will not touch me or my younger sibling without explicit verbal permission ever again." Sinbad removed his hand and took as many steps backwards as he could. "And if you do, we will kick you out onto the street. There will be no second chances."
"Yes, ma'am."
And so Sinbad ended up sleeping on the other pull out mattress since it was closest to the bathroom.
((Now that I have it set up, the next will be the fun parts of the characters living with me irl :3 I'm still looking for suggestions. Not sure when I'll post it or if I'll post something else first.))

@heartsacrosstime asked: She had been flying in the air for what felt like forever, rushing towards the city of Balbadd as soon as she felt a disturbance in the Rukh. Luckily Drakon was more than capable of running things in her absence. However, her sudden departure without much explanation surely startled everyone back home. Brown hues widened as she finally saw the location in her sights. The entire place not only looked like a mess, but also she could see and sense Black Rukh manifesting towards the palace. She was about to head towards there when she saw a familiar face seemingly trying to help some innocent people from the chaos of the situation. "Ja'far!!!" Kagome calls down to him, landing right beside him. "What's going on here?! And where is Sinbad?! Don't tell me he's drunk at a time like this!"
It was just like Sinbad to get them involved in this mess. He'd run off toward the palace with the boy, Alibaba, while Ja'far was left to tend to the sleeping magi. And in the middle of it all, the conflict had finally come to a head, boiling over with a darkness in the air so strong even he can senses it. That familiar shadowed weight they'd been fighting to banish. And meanwhile, the people are in disarray, bandits and insurrectionists battling the city guard, innocents caught in the cross fire. Sinbad had left him only a few brief orders before taking off.
Protect the people. Avoid killing anyone that does not wear the crown of thorns. Keep this city safe.
Easier said that done when he doesn't even have access to his vessel. Still, he's doing his best to evacuate the residents closest to the storm brewing on the palace grounds, with Masrur at his side.
A familiar voice draws him out the mess, looking up to the sky, mouth slightly agape with the shock. If Sinbad's talent is for causing problems, Kagome's is for showing up in the middle of them.
"K-Kagome, what are you doing here?" they must be in trouble if she's come all this. How did she come all this way? When-- "Masrur, take the lead," Masrur, level headed as always, merely waves a hand at Kagome in greeting before going back to work.
Once she's landed, Ja'far grabs her hand and drags her to the side, off into an alley to avoid the stampede.
"You shouldn't be here, you're supposed to be in Sindria--" he sighs exasperatedly, knowing there's no sense in fighting it. He serves the Lord and Lady of bull headedness. "Look, this place is dangerous right now. I'm not sure what's happening but there's an uprising, it's complicated. The important details are this; Al Thamen is in Balbadd, they're operating out of the Kou Empire now. And-- Judar is with them. Sinbad's gone to the palace to try and resolve the situation but he doesn't have his vessels-- don't ask, he's an idiot and I'm going to kill him later. Masrur and I are trying to get the people out. I don't know what's coming, but it's dangerous. You won't be safe here and I can't use my vessel to protect you."

Magi: The Kingdom of Magic
Al-Thamen was defeated by Aladdin and his comrades, and they said their goodbyes to Sindria, starting their individual journeys. Hakuryuu and Kougyoku followed orders and left for the Kou Empire. Meanwhile, Aladdin shared his plans to explore Magnostadt, a country shrouded in mystery and governed solely by sorcerers. He aimed to investigate unusual events and strengthen his magical abilities. Alibaba and Morgiana were inspired by Aladdin's determination and set out on their individual quests to refine their skills and revisit Morgiana's homeland. The diverse journeys of the companions were chronicled in Magi: The Kingdom of Magic, in which they faced different challenges. While they traveled apart from each other, a new threat emerged, foreshadowing an imminent war.

Way back thinking about doing element based photosets, the easiest way would be color coded, yeah? There's just one problem with that.
Lightning magic has at least three distinct colors, and I have been bouncing around why on earth that will be for years. It ruined my plans for nice and neat color-coordination and I'm pissed /lighthearted. So, I'm going to dump my thoughts on it into a post and be rid of it. (I may eventually go back to my color coordination and edit ideas but that is not this post. This post is my built up brainrot and semi-vent post, lmao)
After best considering the way to categorize them, my conclusion is simple.
Blue lightning comes from those whose magic magic base came from Alma Tran.
Yellow comes from the magicians born in the reborn world and seems to be the standard for all of them. (I know it looks a little green but that's my color correction being a little funky).
Then there is Judar who has to be extra as fuck.
One exception that I think supports this idea is Yunan. While magi are more directly connected to Alma Tran, I think ultimately that is not where their magic and connection lies. (Yes, I will say the same about Aladdin).
Yunan uses blue, specifically against his fight with Arba and Al Thamen. She points out how it is odd it is. Yunan agrees and cites the reason he is using it is to mimic Sinbad.
It would be nice to have the Alma Tran arc animated, as the manga is in black and white and all I can do is guess. Different worlds is the only common factor I could come up with, outside of strength or purity of the magic, which leads me back to why that would be the case in the first place and I'm back where I started.
As mentioned, Judar is extra about it. One thought is since he is Fallen, though that wouldn't explain why Isnan's and presumably the rest of Al Thamen's magicians don't have theirs changed black/purple too instead of blue. My honest hunch is that because Judar named it black lightning makes it a style choice he did of his own volition. Yunan makes a choice with his. No reason Judar can't be the same.
Uh, yeah. Incomplete data. That is what I came up with though.
Yes, I know this is basically the reason given to Electro's lightning to change to yellow in No Way Home. I've been stuck on this idea for far longer than that movie coming out. Shows how long it's been lol.
#magi#magi: the labyrinth of magic#magi labyrinth of magic#i've had this in drafts for over a month now#was too lazy to track down panel with yunan before#i should start getting my drafts done and not starting a million others#long post#idk if anyone else has cared or thought of this too deeply#but my brain decided to hyperfixate on it sooo...#don't know if this has been addressed anywhere#includes photo edit

"Your kingdom is weird", was his 'intelligent' and single conclusion. For a magi, his imagination wasn't exactly creative, as if it had been another of the limits of his magical instructions. Always reduced to controllable extents so he wouldn't use his power for anything Al-Thamen couldn't oppose.
He stares at the strange parade passing by, the exuberant woman, the weird steed, the warrior, and then a peasant. Yeah.
But then he noticed the grim shape of the carriage, his nose wrinkled in disgust. Fortunately, it was gone as quickly as it had passed.
"You'd say they had something to do?", he grinned at Hikaru. "Let's kill them and find out." Someone else would have opted for the other way around, but Judar was Judar.
Until he got bored of the idea of killing what seemed like small fries.
"Better find who destroyed the castle, eh? Can you sense the trail of magic?" He looked up, focusing. His eyes almost glowing as he searched for the trail. It used to work with metal vessels and the powerful djinn within. Couldn't be that different, right?...
Following Judar around, perhaps he could be her guide to this place and see what danger lies ahead. “Think of it as a box with moving pictures.” A simple explanatory of a television means.
While walking towards somewhere, they saw a used carriage but was ignored by an armored succubus operating it with a wicked-looking horse, a sword-wielding servant and a local survivor. They must be heading to a village where she met Judar and fought a dragon.
“Whatever inside that carriage they’re using, i wonder what would they do with it. From the looks of it, it looked like covered corpses but not sure.” Hikaru didn’t see the full thing because it was too fast. “It’s best if we should ignore it and focus on where we heading.” The plains were quite a good route despite how random it was.
There she saw a crater where it was used to be an elven fortress but now turned into nothing. Someone might have destroyed it with one strong magic.
And they kept going.

[Magi reread] Night 66: Holy Palace's Aladdin
It almost feels weird to return to Aladdin right now
Weird thingies
Idk, just that giant head is kinda silly
Also, damn, Aladdin's wobbly legs
Nvm, they aren't Schehe's clones. But it still confuses me a little, cuz I feel like it's sort of implied later on that they are? But I might be misremembering thing - I'll comment on it when I get to the Magnostadt Arc. For now it's just a bit ?? Like, it's a real possibility Ohtaka didn't plan that far ahead yet.
You look really sad about it for a guy who nearly murdered him in blind rage
Ok, to be fair, I can imagine him feeling bad about it after calming down. Still, weird choice to want to explain Alma Torran to Judar instead of, idk, Yunan for example. I feel like it would have made the whole dying-and-coming-back-over-and-over-again a little more bearable. To actually know the point of that. Bc when Aladdin and Yunan talk, Yunan admits that Ugo'd never explained anything, and in that form (the blob, probably) form he couldn't ask. So. That fucking sucked.
Anyway. Giving Solomon's Wisdom to Judar? Really? I think you're putting too much faith in that guy.
F
I... forgot that's what happened. I remembered they were the same guy, but that magic turning into one? Tbh, cool.
Pretty!
Hello there, characters nobody cares about, least of all Ohtaka
Don't worry, grls, I've got u.
Look at this annoyed Alibaba, lmao
F A T E
I mean, I jest, but it's pretty cool. Fate is one of Magi's main themes, that for sure, and to have it explained the way it is, I think it really works.
Black Sun
Honestly, I just love it being explained like that. Things becoming inverted, distorted.
Idk man, there's not much I think I can say about it. The explanation is solid on its own, and it's pretty damn cool.
Tho later Ohtaka will come and try to convince us that maybe falling isn't so bad after, yeah, sure, all these brainwashed people are a good proof of that...
That's... yeah. I was thinking about it lately, cuz I was thinking about the Kou Empire Arc.
Maybe that entire becoming more powerful god than the other guy then that guy becoming more powerful than you and then you becoming more powerful than him... etc didn't come out of nowhere here, bc Hakuryuu's falling feels kind of like that. Abra is fallen, so she works against fate, so she fucked up the fate for Hakuryuu, who then proceeded to, idk, +2 to that by also falling, and, since he's not returning things to the actual fate's course, he just makes even bigger of a mess... Which is ironic as fuck. He tried to destroy Al-Thamen by literally doing what they wanted to - sowing more chaos and disasters all around, which at worst could have led the world to an end (given Judar could cause Il Illah to descend, apparently). Idk man, put some make up on to the clown music, you fucking moron.
Like, don't get me wrong, I like Hakuryuu for the most part, but Jesus Fuck he's an idiot. This is why he's constantly painted as immature. Because he fucking is immature. He never thinks things through, has no patience to speak of once he snaps, and ends up just making everything worse for everybody and himself, and wakes up with a hand in the pot, because turns out he has no idea how to handle the aftermath of his stupidass choices, because he was too busy fucking up people's minds to consider what happens after the war.
Ok rant over.
Foreshadowing
(soon) RIP Alibaba
Honestly, that's such a cool moment.
It kind of looks cute
Idk man, awesome moment all around. The fact that all of these blobs are helping him up is really cute, too
That crying Aladdin : (
Also, not gonna lie, this feels like the theme of this arc, among other things. And I'll definitely talk about it more. It's about losing the people you love, but at the same time meeting new ones, too. Of course they won't replace them, but the point is simply you're not alone.
;;;
Honestly, it just looks aweosme
#saya's magi reread#magi#aladdin#ugo#ren hakuryuu#listen i add character tags usually when i talk about them more & i kinda went on a small rant in the middle

his body ached, but now wasn’t the time to give in to rest. they were so close; gyokuen and the rest of the empire were finally within reach. he and judar would kill the witch, take back his country and then destroy anything else — anyone else — who dared to get in their way. so rest was out of the question, at least for hakuryuu, but for his lazy magi, that was another story. ❛❛ quit that, judar; you’re supposed to be working on your teleportation magic. ❜❜
"Hmph," he replied with a confident scoff, hands stretched before him, fingers spread as the flow of magoi shaped a small oval, a liquid mirror reflecting a random landscape, the image seemed to breath in and out, a small portal.
"I'm the best at what I do," he glanced over his shoulder, eyes narrowing with a sneer.
"Behold, my liege" There was a lingering hint in his words, not mockery, but a twisted form of pride, perhaps one fed by Al Thamen. As much as Judar hated to admit it, they had taught him what he knew, and he had exceeded all expectations, as the strongest of the magi.
However, the sleepless hours of study, practice, and effort were a secret jealously kept.

The fight seems to drain from his eyes, the exhaustion casting a shadow across his features. He hasn't slept in two days, spending his nights keeping watch over Kagome so that the others might rest. It had taken everything just to usher Sinbad out of the room. And he had finally convinced Yamuraiha to take a rest, her constant magic work draining her energy faster than the rest. You're of no use to anyone if you're too tired to work, he had told them while feigning his own condition. Sure, he was tired too, but he was better suited for long nights, conditioned from birth to push his body far beyond it's usual limits. Those habits hadn't been lost to time, even if it wasn't as necessary now.
Or it shouldn't be necessary. They should be safe now. All the work put into building their new home, a safe haven for all those left abandoned by the world and yet they were still vulnerable. He wasn't so naive to think they would ever be completely safe, the world was too filled with darkness. They had amassed as many enemies as they had allies and if they wanted to truly change the course of the world, they might continue to make more. There would always be danger. But knowing that didn't make this any easier.
Ja'far took a seat at the vanity, sweeping his keffiyeh from his head. He combed his fingers through his hair, steadying his breath.
"Judar was here, with Al Thamen's agents. We have protocols in place for an outside attack but it hardly made a difference against a magi. He-- he cast some kind of spell, we have our best magicians looking into it but so far none of them have been able to find any answers. And Kagome... she hasn't woken up. Yamuraiha has likened it to her consciousness being sealed away. Nothing has worked to wake her," there's an edge to the voice, not steeled as usual, but something panicked and hesitant. He's covering it as best he could, so as not to appear weak in front of Serendine. But perhaps Serendine's contempt for him means he can afford to drop his mask. After all, he doesn't care much for her keeping some high opinion of him. "Al Thamen disappeared immediately after, I managed to track a few of their agents down and dispose of them. But Judar has run back to wherever he's hiding, like a rat," he spits the name, lips curled in a snarl.
There's the snake, the person she knew Ja'far to be on the inside. It was rather ironic he liked to call her such a terrible person when at least she is upfront about her true nature, unlike himself. That fake smile he puts on, the nice diplomatic tone of his voice...All of it was fake, a manipulation tactic to get others to trust him. At least...it was to most people.
Serendine knows how much Kagome cares about Ja'far, sees him as a brother, even. As much as she personally doesn't like him or Kagome's choice in a husband, she can at least tell they are being genuine with her, just as Serendine is. They all had that much in common along with caring for that pure-hearted woman who none of them deserved to have in their lives.
All three of them had blood on their hands. All three of them had done terrible things, and yet...that magi sees the good in them, cares about them, and wants to help and protect them. You would think this commonality between them all would make them be able to get along, but perhaps that very reason is why that just can't be.
"And I think her trust in you and the idiot king was too easily won and undeserved. So, the feeling is mutual." Her own words are laced with poison, looking at him with the same intensity from behind the mirror's glass. "But...your terms are...reasonable for once, Snake. I see no reason to share such information with anyone else."
A hand is placed over hear heard then, a display that meant what she was about to say was the ruth and only the truth. "I swear on the trust of my dear friend that nothing you say regarding her condition or what transpired will leave my mouth. You have my word as the Queen of Parthevia."
