What’s unpopular depends on what part of the fandom you’re asking. But I guess one thing is that... killing Glenn isn’t the worst thing he did. I’m sure it hit the viewers the hardest because he was a beloved character, but it bothers me that, especially recently, even the show is acting like that was his greatest crime and it really wasn’t. It’s actually pretty low on the list compared to things like subjugating entire communities, treating certain workers like slaves, torturing people, and having a harem of women half his age. Everyone on this show has killed people, not everyone has done all those other things that Negan did.

It depends on what fandom interpretation we’re talking about. There’s two main extremes I’ve seen: the interpretation that he’s this one-dimensional, evil man incapable of change, and that all his good deeds and “redemption” is just some act; and the interpretation that he wasn’t all that bad, that he was justified, that he should be forgiven, etc. And I don’t agree with either of them. So out of those, no. I think there’s a lot more complexity and nuance to his character than either side is willing to give.

Anything I dislike about the canon portrayal-- for the show, I’d say the fact that he still hasn’t really apologized for anything. It frustrates the hell out of me that they’ve spent seasons with this redemption arc and they still won’t have him do the most basic act of saying sorry. His one and only scene with Maggie in the comics is him being remorseful and apologizing and in general there’s multiple moments where he plainly admits to being wrong but for some reason the writers are having him do everything but that on the show.

I’ve tweaked things here and there with the release of new canon material, but not anything major. My portrayal and headcanons have always been a mix of show and comics so if I don’t like something that happens on the show I can usually stick with the comic canon for it instead, and vice versa. Canon has officially made me go fully canon divergent recently though thanks to the whole situation with Annie, which I’m mad about because I made it over four years without having to do that lol.
