monday - tuesday

i know why i was so tired yesterday, now.

i am sick once again, my whole body hurts and my nose is hard to breathe through and stuff, i feel like i'm always about to have a nosebleed, my throat hurts too. i love to live. i am so glad annoying cokeheads got me sick.

anyway today i was looking at old scans of fashion mags from south korea/china (probably hong kong i'd guess but no one specified) and japan (inescapable). i'll post some of my fav pics:

spur - japan - i like this last one because it gives me a fun idea for cover art, not the image itself, though it helps w/ pose ideas or whatever, but little watermark someone put up onto it. i think i need to do that w/ the photo i take of myself for the album art, have that there in pixelated text.

harper's bazaar - china

fhm - china - this one's super weird, the last image especially, hard to tell exactly what they were reaching for, the strangeness/relative uncanniness of these photos / defamiliarization of a magazine's approach to sex sells and whatever turning so genuinely weird and offputting feels artistically useful. it's so wholly gaudy and disorienting. weird stuff.

w - south korea

vogue girl - south korea - the scans of this mag are all super crazy, honestly, i didn't expect these all to be so interesting and good.

cosmopolitan - china - i can't tell if this one's text is part of the image or not but it's maybe my favorite part, how it's so ugly beside everything, the really strange gradient, too.

fruits - japan - i didn't realize this one continued through to 2007, really crazy, you only ever see the y2k stuff get passed around really. these outfits are super cute but like that one spur scan w/ the user's watermark, the watermarks here of this website are really interesting to me, i think i also want to stick some weird watermark onto the picture i take, i don't know what i'll call the fake site or whatever but i kind of want it to maybe be something ridiculous/violent in another language. i'd also probably do it in like 128x128 and upscale the text, and instead of having it be something white w/ lowered opacity, i'd try to index it so it's dithered white pixels, instead of smeary transparent text, and then upscale that.

the watermarking stuff is interesting, it's interesting that these scans of magazines that people used to create a sense of self/consume/receive what they ought to be / do are then turned into a kind of capital, at least when it's a website, to get people to refer back to the site/increase traffic, likely get people to pay money to not have to see the watermarks. it's a fun thing to play at, to me, the accumulation of basically trash information, the trading of images and their valuation. scans of magazines online are kind of like trading cards, it seems like, there's stuff uploaded on archive.org but not as much as anyone would hope, at least with this niche stuff. and there too, the safeguarding of images from being stolen, is sometimes present. i know they keep vogue locked up on there, same with a lot of books, you can't rip books out easily, i mean sometimes people do, but i don't try to do that really.

so en magazine - japan - another example of the watermarks on 2 of the 3 pics, this is what i'm imagining i'll try to approximate the above methods and stuff. also i really love how so en seems to really go in on a kind of fucked up revival of the 60s, the above range from like 07 to 2013.

re: music today, i did 2 tracks, i wanted to do more but i was getting hit like a truck by illness in the middle of the day. i think they've both turned out pretty good, maybe both need a little help w/ getting the kicks louder, but idk, my ears are maybe a bit messed up when trying to do that kinda thing. but i have to proceed. tomorrow i think i'll have to take care of this really tiny thing w/ a song, to get it right, and then maybe 2 other tracks. i am eventually gonna have to get back to my big problem track (really there are 2) but maybe by then i'll have a way better idea what i'm doing.

i am so sick, there's more i wanted to say, though. i read this pretty, frustrating, i guess, comic, tonight. someone posted it saying something like "this says a lot about being trans in north america" or whatever, and it mostly doesn't but it's interesting i guess to read something like that and think about why/how i feel alienated from ever being able to say anything stable about my own identity/gender. the frustration mostly though comes from this sense that everything's too perfect, the relations between characters are too neat and the things they know are too easy, almost, at one point a character looks at kiwifarms, and it's like, is this kind of person, because the comic is kind of working in types, the sort to so easily know about that. like, i dunno, it feels too easy, it seems like something find out about, when they're in the middle of the kind of thing that character was in the midst of, which would have been more interesting. but overall idk, there's a certain way of interfacing w/ oneself/other present in the comic, the sort of types it runs through, and stuff, it creates distance, even though i can sit there and be like, oh i know this type of person, i've met someone like that, or even just, i've seen this kind of thing from a distance. it's valuable to reflect on, because i try writing in similar directions sometimes maybe, i don't want to rely on types totally, i get why a comic would, in prose fiction it's better to get away from that but there's just stuff like that. really what i'm reflecting on, in my inability to say anything stable about myself, like, i can't say: i'm a girl, i'm a boy, i'm a man (speaking honestly, man is what i never want to be, i don't think i ever say i am one), i'm a woman (i don't really know what being one means, maybe, i'd need someone to tell me (and this throws up the whole issue of why girl/boy, that feels weird to me, i'm 25, i'm something else (but what, and like, i dunno))), without ever having to contradict it right after, i just want to be what i am without what feels like interference, but 'cis' is an interference too, i'm not cis, i know that, there's nothing else to know i think. anyway, because of that, when i write characters, the ones i'm writing as/using my personal life for, i can't really gender them, they can't gender themselves, they just are, no matter what, people stick things to them and they all let it linger, or they're troubling themselves over if they pass or not but that's something internal and particular. anyway, i guess there's a thought, where by never really saying anything outright, is that a cowardice, where i let the idea of normalcy/being normal creep in, i don't think so, i don't think i'm normal, or i don't think ultimately i help things be normal with my presence. i dunno though. i kind of hate the "some men are just feminine and are actually super normal" thing, not because it's untrue, but to say there's no complication there, and also that this isn't just a cope or whatever, is frustrating. it's frustrating because people are at once alienated from being 'trans' (a broad thing that can mean all sorts of things really) and wanting to still be seen as cis so people don't think you're weird. it's not something i hate the people that feel that way for, i hate the world that makes that desirable.

anyway, i dunno. it's basically all complex and fucked up. sometimes i think of myself in percentages but putting it to text feels like a commitment, i don't ever want to be committed to performing some percentage of gender. i really just want gender to disappear as a thing, but i also, obviously, really want to look a certain way, be seen a certain way, because of stuff that happened to me as a kid and stuff i saw and whatever, it's like necessary, i have to. no one has a gun to my head except i feel like one shows up when i'm ugly. i'm on a tightrope, i was put there, it's not my fault, a lot of people are on it too, like everybody is, it's terrible.

i think if tiqqun were writing currently on the young girl, they might be compelled to speak on trans stuff, but i think all they might say ultimately is that basically every human on earth is on hrt. they would be right. although that makes it sound like i think hrt is bad or something. or maybe not. i think hrt is good and i think about trying it sometimes, or not trying, i'd have to commit, that seems less scary than the percentages though because i could still really be whatever/nothing/everything. everyone's on hrt but they receive it via socially enforced norms/reality stamping down on you, you will conform to standards and so on and whatever. sometimes i think gender euphoria is really a negative thing, in ways, if you think about cis men and their gender euphoria, where they might get it from, being hard laborers or beating women, basically suffering and then throwing it around, things become more frightening. i experience euphoria when people stare at my ass and i want to kill them but i also want people to stare. when my gf is transfixed by me, it's really nice, but it's also scary, why do i want to be totally inert and just looked at. it makes me wretch but i can't help it, really. i need attention all the time. i'm writing about how fucked up my insides are, i'm so histrionic.

that's one thing on my mind. the other really is how much i hate being sick and how i am like a sick and withering whateverrrr. my head hurts distantly, in a threeway sort of thing, different points of penetration along my brain and stuff.

hmm I haven't read a lot about ghost theory bc there's a lot of facets to it like there's different types of ghosts, different types of hauntings (the haunted house, the body itself, also whether the ghost lingers or 'leaves a trace' as leila taylor calls it bc of trauma, grief, loss, memory etc etc) but some readings:

“I think ghosts are memory—memory haunts bodies, haunts places, haunts the narratives that hold our minor and miraculous lives together. Ghosts are that which return and return and return. The body has its own hauntings, too: phantom limb sensation, organ transfer memory, the traumatic self. And others.”

In 2003 na dat me vader is overleden  begon voor mij eigenlijk ook het ziekenhuis een rol te spelen in me leven. Omdat ik veel last had van hoesten en het vermoeden was toch een vochtig huis werd er besloten om long foto's te maken. Ik was nog niet thuis of de telefoon ging al. Ze hadden bij de linker long een een vlek gezien niet erin maar aan de buitenkant dit moest zo snel mogelijk onderzocht worden. Er is toen snel een ct-scan gemaakt en ze vonden een aneurysma net na de aorta boog van 5 cm lang en 5 cm dik  alleen op bult zat nog een bult van een 1 cm. Ik ben via het ziekenhuis in Apeldoorn  doorverwezen naar het vu in Amsterdam want daar waren ze op dat moment het verste met aneurysma in de borstholte en in Nijmegen konden ze het net 3 maanden dus de keus was makkelijk.Ik zou wel gevolgd worden door artsen in America omdat ze nog weinig wisten over stents aanbrengen via de lies en ik was een mooi persoon om dit te volgen. Ik was toen 36 jaar.Ik ben op 8 april 2004 geopereerd eraan en het herstel verliep goed. De jaren die er daarna volgden bleek het aneurysma heel mooi om de prothese te zijn geslonken en het resultaat was beter als ze verwachten. Had wel wat vaker last van de rug maar niet noemenswaardig kwam ook door meer oorzaken. Ik ben in 2007 verhuisd van Apeldoorn weer terug naar Nijmegen toch de stad waar mijn wortels liggen.Ik heb in 2009 een hond in huis genomen ze kwam van vrienden het was een hollandse herder ze heette Goldie. Ik kwam in de zomer van 2013 er achter dat ik de ene keer 10 km kon lopen en de andere dag amper 100 meter. Mijn huisarts was ondertussen verhuisd naar een huisartsen praktijk. Dus ik kreeg wel eens een andere dokter.het begon eigenlijk met pijn bij me rechter rib de onderste. Ik kreeg vaak een andere arts aangewezen bij de huisartsen post omdat die eerder tijd had als me eigen huisarts, zo had ik eens galstenen spieren verrekt en fysio werkte averechts  en toen ineens copd. Ik ging weer bij haar op consult van wegen de pijn en kreeg te horen neem je maar een paracetamol ik kwam omdat die dingen niks hielpen. De maat was vol voor me en ben avonds naar het ziekenhuis gegaan. De arts dacht misschien een spier verrekt bij de rib door het hoesten maar kon zijn eigen niet  vinden met de uitspraken en heeft een boze mail gestuurd naar mijn eigen huisarts met het verzoek om de copd nader te onderzoeken met foto's en een test want hij geloofde er weinig van. Ik kon een dag later al terecht en een paar dagen later op naar het ziekenhuis voor long foto's. Het was inmiddels al februari 2014.   IK was nog niet thuis van de foto's of de telefoon ging alweer, de huisarts ze hadden een fors aneurysma gezien de prothese van de vorige bungelde in de nieuwe en deze nieuwe aneurysma was geschat op 10 cm lang en 10 cm breed.IK moest met spoed na de eerste hulp komen omdat ze dit toch wel nader wilde bekijken. Na de ct scan had ik nog griep ook werd er besloten er worden weer 2 protheses bijgezet 1 aan de onderkant van het nieuwe aneurysma en 1 die word in de nieuwe en oude prothese ingebracht om zo het aneurysma uit te schakelen. ik zou snel opgeroepen worden. Het was 18 maart 2014 en werd morgens  wakker  en had het gevoel als ik het einde van de dag haal mag ik in me handen klappen. Ik heb de huisarts gebeld en na overleg moest ik direct naar de eerste hulp. Daar aangekomen werd ik onderzocht en de vaatchirurg kwam voor me zitten met een bezorgd gezicht. Hij zei je prothese is al in Nederland die zijn ze met super spoed aan het ophalen ik moet jou nog 2 uur in leven zien te houden. Op dat moment ging de deur open kwamen er 4 dames binnen pakte me vierkant op werd op bed gelegd en naar ic vervoerd.Ze wilde zo goed mogelijk de protocol uitvoeren en dat houd in om de benen kunstmatig te verlammen en dit na de operatie weer langzaam op gang te laten komen dan heb je minder kans op blijvende verlamming na de operatie. Ik werd een paar dagen later wakker en kreeg te horen de operatie is geslaagd alleen ik had een flink delirium gehad. Ik weet hier niks meer van ik mocht na de mediumcare. Ik had wel steeds ruzie met een klok vond dat ie niet snel genoeg liep. Na 2 dagen na de afdeling  en toen alles goed werd bevonden na een dag of 4 naar huis. Bij de apotheek begon het alweer lang wachten want de zorgverzekering had gevraagd of de medicijnen niet in een andere goedkopere vorm konden na veel overleg tussen apotheek zorgverzekering en arts werden paar dingen vervangen de arts zei wel moet wel dezelfde werking hebben. Het revalideren was begonnen en ging toch anders als verwacht maar er was vooruitgang. De pijn bij me rechter rib blijft terug komen en dat komt door het aneurysma dat duwt organen aan de kant luchtpijp en slokdarm darm zitten ook scheef long word in geduwd en organen eronder vinden ook hinder ervan. Maar als het aneurysma zou gaan slinken zouden de problemen ook weg gaan. Het aneurysma was tijdens de operatie al 12 cm geworden. het revalideren gaat redelijk helaas komt me zwager in november te overlijden. Dus wilde ik er graag zijn voor me zusje want ik weet hoe het voelt jong een ouder verliezen. Helaas moet ik op 3 december me hond in laten slapen ze was vergiftigd en haar nieren konden het niet meer bol werken. Het is 16 december 2014 ik ga werken en op werk voel ik me niet lekker. De chef die er is stuurt me naar huis. Maar onder het lopen beginnen me benen raar te doen rare tintelpijn. Een collega zet me op een bureaustoel en rijd me naar de kleedruimte. Daar onder het omkleden het snel erger werd en ik op de grond belanden omdat ik me benen niet meer voelde. De chef heeft toen een ambulance laten komen en het bhv team. Ik was blij dat de ambulance er was werd vlug onderzocht en het vermoeden was dat me aorta lek was geslagen. Ik had ook geen gevoel meer in me rechterarm. De ambulance is met zwaailicht en sirene naar het radboudumc gespoed. Daar aangekomen op de trauma hadden ze al snel in de gaten dat ik een grote bloedprop had en die was boven in me rechter lies blijven steken. Ik had gelukkig een medicijnlijstje in de bhv kast op werk neer laten leggen en de trauma arts had het vermoeden al dat die medicijnen wel eens gebotst zouden kunnen hebben, komt maar zelden voor maar ja ik was de 1 op de miljoen dus.Helaas ook een infarct gehad in me milt en rechter nier. ok me huid begint allergie te vertonen en na wat bezoekjes word besloten de huidklachten te onderdrukken omdat ik de medicijnen echt nodig heb met name de morfine voor de pijn,dus pilletje erbij en wat zalfjes.    De bloedprop hebben ze opgelost en naar een week ongeveer mag ik naar huis terug.Toch met kou en lange inspanning willen me benen niet meer en beginnen behoorlijk pijn te doen. Ik heb dit met de arts besproken maar hij was eerlijk hij zei als het erger word aan de bel trekken. Het revalideren gaat slecht ik word regelmatig eerder naar huis gestuurd en de pijn bij de rib kliert ook aardig. Het is 18 maart 2015 ik sta op met veel pijn bij de rechter rib, ik bel de huisarts kan gelijk komen. ik weet nog dat een dame me vroeg wilt u voor meneer het gaat niet goed met u. Daarna lag ik in een ambulance op weg naar het ziekenhuis. na controle bleek toch het aneurysma te liggen klieren en ik moest de pijn voorblijven dan maar huiduitslag. Dus nu standaard alle pijnstilling in nemen en niet een basis pijn stilling en aanvullen als de pijn komt. Het is 3 juni 2015 ik ben weer op me werk en het revalideren is bagger. Simpele dingen of dingen waar ik bij kan zitten gaan redelijk goed. Allen nu ging ik zitten en er kwam een rare nare pijn bij dat me gewoon naar de grond sloeg en me linkerzijde als ik daarop lag was de pijn het minst. De chef die er is belt gelijk een ambulance. In de ambulance waren me waarde weer redelijk normaal maar ik ben een valkuil patiënt dus ze moeten me naar het ziekenhuis brengen voor onderzoek. Me gewicht bloeddruk en hartslag hadden de normale waarde. Aangekomen bij de trauma onderzoek gehad en ze hebben besloten een ct-scan met vloeistof en dan ter observatie op de eerste hulp. De collega gaat weer terug naar het bedrijf die was mee gereden want het kon nog wel uren duren. Ik lig op d eerste hulp en er komt iemand vragen of ik gereanimeerd wil worden ik kijk ze aan is het nodig dan? ow u weet het nog niet. Gelijk kwam de Vaatchirurg en die vertelde me u hebt weer een nier infarct gehad in u rechter nier maar we hebben iets anders ontdekt en dat is dat de prothese aan het uitbreken is en het verse bloed komt in het aneurysma en maakt zo bloed klontjes.Zoals het nu zit zal het nog wel een paar dagen bij volledige rust blijven zitten maar er moet iets aangedaan worden. De keuze een open operatie dat is de zwaarste operatie die er is en kom je met mankementen uit omdat ik niet echt top fit ben en heeft ook een lange revalidatie nodig meer als 2 jaar. Of de stents recht zetten en daar 1 lange stent overheen dat kon nog net voor ze andere belangrijke aders gaan afsluiten.Ik heb voor het laatste gekozen  dat was volgens de vaatchirurg ook de beste optie een open operatie kan nog altijd.5 juni 2015 ben ik met succes geopereerd en weer de dood ontlopen gelukkig. Het is 21 juli 2015 ik moet op controle heb een vragenlijstje want de pijn achter me recht rib is erger geworden en trekt naar de rug toe dit zouden ze na de operatie uitzoeken omdat ze vermoeden dat dit nog steeds van het aneurysma komt dat helaas nog ruim 12 cm. Alleen er was weer een tegenvaller de nieuwe stent is aan de onderkant niet mooi in de aorta geschoten en lekt. Nu moet ik aansterken en gaan ze in september met een ballon naar binnen om de boel aan te drukken en het lek op te heffen.Ik hoop dat dit echt het laatste is me benen hebben het ook weer een behoorlijke klap gehad. maar ja ik ben er nog!!

Si Usus yang Buntu

Ok, if the journal before was about my grateful feelings of things happened to me.

This time it would be more about the chronology, facts, and details, why i ended up having my surgery. 

Who knows it would be advantage for anyone who might have similar experience with me.

Tapi sebelumnya, kita cari tahu dulu yuk. Apa sih usus buntu itu?

“Penyakit usus buntu adalah peradangan yang terjadi pada usus buntu atau apendiks. Usus buntu merupakan organ berbentuk kantong kecil dan tipis, berukuran sepanjang 5 hingga 10 cm yang terhubung pada usus besar. Saat menderita radang usus buntu, penderita dapat merasa nyeri di perut kanan bagian bawah. Jika dibiarkan, infeksi dapat menjadi serius dan menyebabkan usus buntuh pecah, sehingga menimbukan keluhan rasa nyeri hebat hingga membahayakan nyawa penderitanya.”

Jadi, peradangan usus buntu bisa terjadi kapanpun, dimanapun. Makanya beberapa dokter memilih untuk mengambil tindakan cepat sebelum terjadi proses perlengketan dan naudzubillah pembocoran yang akan menyebabkan usus buntu bernanah. Kalau sudah bernanah, harus dilakukan operasi besar sekitar 5 - 10 cm dan usus harus dicuci untuk benar-benar disterilkan. Ngeri kan? Hiiii ngebayanginnya aja udah syerem. 

Setelah nyeri yang bertubi-tubi, akhirnya sayapun memutuskan pergi ke rumah sakit terdekat., RS Eka Hospital.

Sesampainya di rumah sakit, berbagai observasi langsung dilakukan, diantaranya periksa darah, tes urine (untuk memastikan gangguan bukan pada ginjal ataupun saluran kencing), dan yang terakhir adalah CT Scan. In my case, i passed the blood and urine test, but stuck in CT Scan.

Untuk temen-temen yang masih ragu tentang gejala usus buntu. Here i give you link that might help you:

- Kehilangan nafsu makan - Perut kembung - Tidak bisa buang gas (kentut) - Mual - Konstipasi atau diare - Demam

Tapi hati-hati juga, karena gejala awalnya mirip banget sama mag dan masuk angin. Karena jujur, pada awalnya saya hanya berfikir mungkin hanya masuk angin biasa. Bedanya, biasanya kan setelah buang angin, atau buang air besar/ kecil, perut harusnya terasa lebih lega, kalau ini nyerinya masih ada bahkan rasanya keliyengan pas harus berdiri atau berjalan, dan nyerinya tuh nyeri banget nget nget nget. Nah, karena rasanya udah mau pingsan, akhirnya saya pun langsung bergegas pulang untuk langsung cari obat mag.

Sesampainya di rumah, saya langsung minum Polysilane, dan istirahat tidur. Tapi jam 12 malam perut kok rasanya masih sangat nyeri, dan sangat sulit untuk bergerak. Karena merasa ada yang tidak beres, akhirnya saya memutuskan untuk membangunkan ibu saya dan pergi memeriksakan diri ke IGD.

Untuk cari cara tahu lainnya, temen-temen juga bisa coba tekan perut bagian kanan bawah dengan menggunakan dua jari, tekan secara perlahan, lalu cabut secara cepat dan instan. Jika dirasa nyeri dan menyakitkan, maka kemungkinan besar kenyerian tersebut berasal dari usus buntu.

In my case, setelah CT Scan keluar dokter juga melakukan uji klinis dengan menekan perut kanan bawah tersebut, dan hasilnya? yes, its appendicitis man.

Akhirnya setelah dokter dan perawat langsung menginstruksikan untuk operasi jam 6 sore. Mau ga mau jadi harus nahan laper dan haus deh karena harus puasa sebelum operasi. Tujuannya supaya tidak tersedak saat operasi berlangsung, kalau sampai tersedak akan sangat berbahaya bagi keselamatan.

Kenapa bisa tersedak? Nah itu ceritanya lain lagi. Saat dibius total kan otomatis otak juga akan berfungsi minimal, termasuk dalam menjalankan tugasnya untuk mencerna dan bernafas. Nah kalau ada sejumlah makanan yang belum tuntas dicerna, ditakutkan dengan fungsi yang minimal tersebut, tubuh salah mengomunikasikan saraf pencernaan malah menuju ke pernafasan yang akan mengakibatkan makanan tersedak. Singkat cerita, udah meningan puasa aja deh! hhaha...

Untuk jenis operasinya sendiripun ada 2 macam:

- Operasi usus buntu terbuka. Apendektomi terbuka dilakukan dengan membuat irisan pada bagian kanan bawah perut sepanjang 2-4 inci. Usus buntu diangkat melalui irisan ini kemudian irisan ditutup kembali. Apendektomi terbuka harus dilakukan jika usus buntu pasien sudah pecah dan infeksinya menyebar. Apendektomi terbuka juga merupakan metode yang harus dipilih bagi pasien yang pernah mengalami pembedahan di bagian perut.

- Operasi usus buntu laparoskopi. Apendektomi laparoskopi dilakukan dengan membuat 1-3 irisan kecil di bagian kanan bawah abdomen. Setelah irisan abdomen dibuat, dimasukan sebuah alat laparoskop ke dalam irisian tersebut untuk mengangkat apendiks. Laparoskop merupakan alat berbentuk tabung tipis panjang yang terdiri dari kamera dan alat bedah. Pada saat dilakukan apendektomi laparoskopi, dokter akan memutuskan apakah dibutuhkan apendektomi terbuka atau tidak.

In my case, i choose laparoskopi. Memang biayanya bisa 2x lipat lebih mahal, tapi kalau dibandingkan dengan kerugian non materialnya, saya rasa hasilnya seimbang. Kalau operasi terbuka memang lebih murah, tapi proses sembuhnya lebih lama. Kalau proses sembuhnya lebih lama, berarti biaya rawat inap rumah sakitnya akan jadi lebih mahal, semakin lama rawat inap berarti obat dan infus yang berjalan juga akan semakin banyak, plus bekas luka pasca operasi juga jauh lebih besar. Untuk laparoskopi sendiri, luka yang saya dapat hanya 3 titik. Di pusar, dan dua titik ke bawahnya. Saat ini memang balutan saya belum dibuka, tapi bisa dipastikan kalau lukanya sangatlah kecil. Soalnya dokternya sendiri juga cuma menggunakan plester yang berukuran kecil.

Sakit pasca operasinya?

Maksimum 2 hari aja nyeri dalamnya terasa. Awalnya memang sangat sulit untuk bangun dari posisi tidur, tapi 12 jam pasca operasi saya sudah bisa berjalan ke kamar mandi sendiri, tanpa bantuan. Dan hari ke tiga, nyerinya sangat jauh berkurang. Yang lebih terasa malah nyeri luarnya, lebih ke luka sayatan kulitnya, tapi saya sudah bisa berjalan, duduk, tidur dengan berbagai posisi tanpa masalah. Hmm, nyerinya tuh kaya ibarat ada luka di dengkul yang belum kering tapi dengkulnya gerak gerak jadi ya agak nyeri tapi ya cuma sekedarnya.

Oh ya, dan satu lagi. Perut saya mengalami pembengkakan ke kanan (karena usus buntu ada di kanan bawah). Saya kira memang saya aja yang tambah gendut hha, tapi ternyata itu hanya proses normal yang terjadi saat dilakukan operasi. Lekuk pinggang kanan saya jadi lebih besar dari si kii, but its totally not painful, karena emang yang dirasa kaya cuma nunggu luka sayatan kering aja.

Jadi, seberapa urgensinya sih pengoperasian ini? Setelah dokter kasih obat nyeri, I feel fine, I feel totally fine.

Yup, sempet ragu sih untuk operasi, ngga, operasi, ngga. Karena ngebayangin jarum dan gunting-guntingannya aja uda lemes tcoy... apalagi sakit pasca operasinya, hiiii...... (padahal ternyata ngga sakit-sakit amat abis laparoskopi hhaha)

Tapi,

Sebenernya, untuk pengambilan langkah operasi ini, dokter menyerahkan kembali ke pasien dengan 2 pilihan:

- operasi secepatnya, atau

- Boleh pulang cukup dengan antibiotik saja, tapi dengan resiko perlengketan usus, dan peradangan yang sewaktu-waktu bisa bocor kapan saja.

Nah, untuk yang satu ini. Ibu saya tidak mau mengambil resiko, dan berhubung 80% pembiayaan dibantu asuransi, jadilah akhirnya bulat untuk operasi.

Brutus // Revolver Mag

When people think Belgian exports, their minds often conjure a cornucopia of beer, waffles and chocolates. Music doesn’t factor into the feast so much. And indeed, the nation’s pantheon of homegrown bands (the prog-pop crew dEUS, the dance-punk outfit Soulwax, the dubiously-named indie band Girls in Hawaii) scans as generally underwhelming compared to the rest of the European rock cosmos.

Enter Brutus, a trio from the humble church town of Leuven who just so happen to be soothsayers. They can’t predict the weather or the timing of the apocalypse, but they can perceive the future of hardcore as we know it: a world brimming with ample color and white-hot heat, diametrically opposed to the three-chord, testosterone-fueled orthodoxy often identified with the style. At its center sits drummer-vocalist Stefanie Mannaert, a whirling dervish who juggles otherworldly falsetto hooks with roiling polyrhythms. Her compatriots, bassist Peter Mulders and guitarist Stijn Vanhoegaerden, swaddle her fury with gauzy, shimmering textures; they’re partial to crystalline post-rock arpeggios, velvety shoegaze, rubbery basslines and flickering synths.

Brutus’ explosive contours are on full display on their debut album, Burst, released in February. Though the LP’s frenetic arrangements reflect a sharp collective focus, the band members are quick to bring up their aesthetic differences. Mannaert and Mulders began their musical partnership as Refused Party Program, a cover-to-cover tribute to the Refused’s 1998 classic The Shape of Punk to Come, but when asked today if they’d ever attempt a similar project, they burst into laughter. “I think that would be so different for the three of us,” Vanhoegaerden chuckles. “Stefanie would probably pick a Slayer album. I would probably pick Bruce Springsteen ...”

“I like Banks and the Weeknd,” chirps Mulders, widening the schism. “I can’t play any electronic instruments except for bass, but if I was covering the Weekend, I’d do it.” His bandmates snicker, ever so softly.  

As these forward-thinking Belgians continue to gain traction in the wake of their debut release, it’s only natural that some of Brutus’ musical heroes would take notice. Thrice drummer Riley Breckenridge and Dillinger Escape Plan frontman Greg Puciato are fans, but the group's most notable cheerleader is Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich, who played Brutus’ single “Drive” on his Apple Music show, before reaching out to voice his support via email. "He asked us to meet up in Antwerp when Metallica come play in Europe [later this year]," Mulders says, a bit incredulously, before addressing the rest of the group: "We have to work that out." (Yeah, guys, you should really get on that.)

Their fans, both famous and not, can likely sense that beneath the bandmates' current musical-taste schisms lies a firm shared foundation. All three members cite Nineties rock as a major influence in their musical upbringing: Vanhoegaerden and Mulder studied NOFX’s skate-punk, while Mannaert learned to play drums by banging along to nu-metal. Soon the three of them were razing parallel paths through the local hardcore circuit — jagged lines that were bound to converge, given the scene’s modest ranks. Mannaert and Vanhoegaerden spent the latter half of the aughts playing in Starfucker, an emo-tinged hard-rock band. A year or so after the group’s 2011 disbandment, Mannaert and Mulders launched the short-lived Refused Party Program. These respective friendships, and the shared sensibilities inherent therein, would ultimately serve as the catalyst for Brutus’ first rehearsals in 2013.

With its nuanced arrangements and multi-layered effects, Burst could be a handful for a 10-man band to perform, let alone a trio. When the band cut the album in Vancouver last year with producer Jesse Gander (White Lung, Japandroids), they had no performative plan to speak of. “When we wrote the songs, we hadn't played them live before, so we had to adapt some stuff to be able to play it live,” reveals Mulder. Meanwhile, Mannaert — a former drum teacher who works at a music school part-time — found herself in the unfamiliar role of student, taking voice lessons to keep her windpipes intact. “As a child, I always lost my voice really fast,” she says. “And singing in the band doesn't make it better.”

That’s understandable, considering how she never expected to find herself playing frontwoman. “We tried to look for a singer, but it all went well with just the three of us,” recalls Mannaert. At her bandmates’ urging, she begrudgingly accepted her destiny as Brutus’ nexus. “It's still a work in progress,” says Mannaert, sounding a little fatigued, but nonetheless determined.

Another learning experience presented itself in the location of the recording process. For these Old World natives, Vancouver represented the New Utopia, a melting pot well removed from Flemish norms. “In Belgium, we have more problems with multiculturalism,” Mulders says solemnly. “It's not so easy to adapt to here. Vancouver is way ahead of us on that part.”

Which makes it a fitting spot for Brutus to have recorded Burst. Much like the multicultural North American city in which it was birthed, the album breaks down boundaries, not just in terms of composition or style, but European rock writ large: There’s room for everyone, and everything.
