As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting hues of orange and pink across the sky, Nathaniel and Jarod stood outside their newly renovated camper, surveying their humble abode with a mixture of excitement and anticipation. After graduating from university, the duo had decided to embark on a new adventure in the charming town of Swansdale, seeking a simpler and more sustainable way of life.

"Can you believe we're finally here, Nathaniel?" Jarod exclaimed, a wide grin spreading across his face as he admired their handiwork.

Nathaniel nodded, a sense of contentment washing over him. "It's been quite the journey, hasn't it? But I have a feeling this is just the beginning."

With the camper now their home base, Nathaniel wasted no time in bringing his vision to life. Armed with a passion for sustainability and a desire to make a difference, he set out to establish his own business, which he aptly named EcoHarmony Consultancy. The business aimed to provide eco-friendly solutions and promote sustainable practices within the community of Swansdale.

Meanwhile, Jarod delved into the world of politics, securing a position as a campaign worker. His outgoing nature and natural charisma made him a hit among the townsfolk, and he relished the opportunity to connect with his constituents and make positive changes in their lives.

However, as months passed, Jarod's political career hit a snag. Budget cuts and bureaucratic red tape made it increasingly difficult for him to enact the changes he had promised during his campaign. Frustration mounted as he struggled to navigate the complexities of local government, and soon enough, he found himself at odds with his colleagues.

"I thought politics was supposed to be about helping people, not endless meetings and paperwork," Jarod grumbled one evening, slumping into a chair at the kitchen table.

Nathaniel, ever the voice of reason, placed a comforting hand on his friend's shoulder. "I know it's tough, Jarod. But remember why you got into this in the first place. You have the opportunity to make a difference, even if it's not always easy."

Despite Nathaniel's words of encouragement, Jarod's frustration continued to grow. The mounting pressure and constant setbacks took a toll on his mental health, leaving him feeling defeated and disillusioned.

It wasn't long before Jarod received news that he had been let go from his position. The blow was a hard one, and for a moment, he felt lost and uncertain about his future. But Nathaniel remained by his side, offering unwavering support and reminding him that every setback was an opportunity for growth.

"You know, Nathaniel, I may have lost my job, but I haven't lost sight of why I wanted to get into politics in the first place," Jarod said, a newfound determination shining in his eyes.

Nathaniel smiled, a sense of pride swelling within him. "That's the spirit, Jarod. No matter what happens, we'll face it together."

And as the stars twinkled overhead, casting their gentle glow upon the camper, Nathaniel and Jarod found solace in the knowledge that, no matter what challenges lay ahead, they would always have each other's backs.

eg. name — hamada jiro   abilities. none    about. hamada is one of the few soldiers that was allowed to train and work as human without having the serum, only because he’d compromised that within eight years from joining the army he’d be turned into a clone. willingly. that could not be fulfilled because within five years of working at the garden, kozlova mutilated him and cut off his hands. ( in retaliation to him attacking jeon ara six months prior ). this in some ways being a breach of his contract, he settled for eventually getting the serum for immortality instead of being cloned.

eg. name — ikra maessen   abilities. none    about. trained as a soldier but when giving the opportunity moved and worked in the med facility of the garden. first as a nurse and working her way to becoming a surgeon in eden. she treats mostly soldiers and works on finding ways to treat clones just like humans. and is the personal doctor of both kozlova and jeon. 

eg. name — kaenna orestev   abilities. none    about. trained alongside jeon ara when she joined the army and later trained by her once ara raised on positions. one of the most loyal soldiers though their views stand either black or white despite the grey areas ara has been trying to make her see for years. is after ara one of the most skilled but does not wishes to arise in positions since she does not see that it would benefit her anyways. kozlova holds highs regards to her ( though would never tell ).

Blog Post Team 10 - Team RED

Problem statement

Team RED wants to adapt their current model to one that is more fitting of a residential area. Bringing their project to a residential area raises privacy concerns that make it difficult for Team RED to collect useful data. For example data leaks can make the residents feel unsafe. Moreover, the possibility of their data being sold to third parties, without the residents’ consent for unethical uses can further increase the feeling of their privacy being hijacked. This causes a conflict between sustainability and privacy as a certain amount of energy data needs to be collected for Team RED to give sound advice which inturn would contribute to the acceleration of the energy transition. Therefore it is important to find a balance between respecting the residents private energy data and providing Team RED with enough data to give the residents advice.

Recommended solution

Our proposal could solve this conflict between sustainability and privacy. There are multiple reasons why the residents would not be willing to participate. Firstly the lack of knowledge about the project and how it will be implemented in their homes. Secondly, there is a lack of communication from Team RED on what they expect from the residents, and from the residents on how willing they are to participate in Team RED’s project. Lastly, the residents could lack incentive to share their data. We suggest that a brochure will be sent out along the survey answering some of the most common questions and concerns the residents have. This should deal with the lack of knowledge and communication. To incentivise the residents to share their data, we chose to make a mobile application that would take the place of the original model that team RED made for the TU/e. This mobile application makes the residents more willing to participate by giving them better insight into what data is collected. Simultaneously, this insight provides the residents with the possibility to lower their energy consumption hence accelerating the energy transition. For the final assignment we have already decided to focus only on designing a mobile application.

End-product:

Our end product presented in this blogpost is split up into 3 parts: the brochure, the survey and the app.

BROCHURE:

●       The Brochure would be handed out with a smile to every household in the residential area

●       This brochure would include a reasonable amount of information about Team RED and the app yet not as much as Team RED’s website

●       On the brochure there would be a section that includes what you can do after reading this brochure. In this section there is Team RED’s email, Team REDs Website and a suggestion to go and fill in the online survey. 

SURVEY:

The link to the Survey is on Team RED’s website. This survey will have a few basic questions on to what extent the household would be willing to share their data.

First the basic question if is the residents want to participate In Team RED’s project:

❏     I am not willing to participate

The residents can choose what type of utilities they want to share or if they want to share:

❏     Electricity

❏     gas

❏     water

They can also choose at what time of day they would or wouldn’t want to share their data:

❏     morning 06:00-12:00

❏     afternoon 12:00-18:00

❏     evening 18:00-00:00

❏     night 00:00 - 06:00

They can also choose which days of the week they want to share their data:

❏     Monday

❏     Tuesday

❏     Wednesday

❏     Thursday

❏     Friday

❏     Saturday

❏     Sunday

All of these boxes would be selected by default so if people would not want to share that data they would have to uncheck that box.

The survey would end with a Comments and Questions Section. If there are questions that are repeated multiple times they can be added to a Frequently Asked Questions section on the website. Furthermore any question that is not already answered in the FAQ section will be answered by Team RED.

After collecting and assessing the answers that were given to the survey, Team RED can use this information to then ask the residents if they are okay with having the corresponding sensors installed in their homes and if they go forward with the project.    

App Installation and Preparation

The app installation and preparation contains three main steps:

The Downloading of the app (provide help if needed)

The Login username and password for their personal account on the app

Function in which energy usage is compared to that of an average person.

Function in which energy usage is compared to that of a sustainable person/scenario.

Two other options will be that you can see tips to improve your sustainable living and that there will be a question and answer section with team RED.

There will be a settings option to regulate what and when data is being collected.

The app will become available in two languages; English and Dutch. To reach a larger audience and thereby increasing participation.

There is an achievements section that adds motivation to be more sustainable.

Design

At the homescreen you will see your own usage in the middle. Under this on the right and left side you can choose the option to see the usage of an average or sustainable person.

The app will be made very basic and intuitive so that most residents can easily understand the app.

If you tap your usage you can see more elaborate visuals on your usage (for example per day or week and where you used it)

The visuals that are shown will not be too complex to make them easily understandable for residents of all ages and professions.

Hallo,

Mijn naam is Sam Maessen. Ik ben 18 jaar oud en ik woon in Eindhoven bij mijn moeder samen met mijn twee oudere zussen en onze hond en ga regelmatig op bezoek bij mijn vader. Over mijn HAVO diploma heb ik helaas 6 jaar gedaan door privé omstandigheden tijdens mijn examen. Voor het onderbouwen van mijn studiekeuze heb ik twee keer een open dag bezocht en een meeloop dag gevolgd. Ondanks mijn studie vertraging bleef mijn keuze voor de studie Technische bedrijfskunde. Tijdens mijn eerste schooldag werd mij de vraag gesteld hoe ik mij voelde bij mijn nieuwe opleiding. Over deze vraag heb ik lang nagedacht. Uiteindelijk ben ik tot de conclusie gekomen, dat ik het leuk en tegelijkertijd ook vreemd vond.  Twee totaal verschillende gevoelens. Leuk omdat het nieuwe jaar is begonnen, dat ik eindelijk mijn medestudenten kon ontmoeten en kon beginnen aan de studie die ècht bij mij past. Vreemd omdat het niet is wat ik mij erbij voorgesteld had. Ik had namelijk verwacht dat we de eerste week les kregen in de nieuwe vakken van Technische Bedrijfskunde en we kregen juist iets heel anders namelijk een kennismaking met de opleiding en medestudenten hetgeen achteraf logisch klinkt. Tijdens een film kregen we de opdracht om deze met een Technisch Bedrijfskundige bril te bekijken. Ik vond dat dit de film leuker en ook leerzamer maakte. Er werd me vaak duidelijk gemaakt dat ik meer moest vragen. Dat vind ik zelf logisch maar aan de andere kant ook moeilijk omdat ik vaak niet de goede woorden kan vinden om zo’n vraag te stellen. Uiteindelijk heb ik veel geleerd van de eerste dag: Ik heb nieuwe mensen ontmoet, nieuwe informatie gekregen over de opleiding en het belangrijkste van allemaal ik heb mijzelf en andere vragen gesteld. Dat was kenmerkend voor deze dag en nieuw voor mij.
