hiiii i recently found out that there was a narnia side of tumblr through pure chance. i am frankly delighted that one of my childhood series actually has an active fanbase and i really wanna jump in, so i wanted to know if you had any fic recs? i am current chowing though madnessiseverything's narnia works but i would love to know what other staples exist on ao3

omigosh Im so sorry, I've had this in my drafts for a while and forgot all about it O_O but yes here are a few of my favorite fics/oneshots!!

a savage place: in which Trumpkin discovers the Pevensies are not what they seem; this is probably my favorite Narnia fic ever. under a swift sunrise: the Pevensies partake in a Narnian tradition of welcoming spring season of mists: Mrs. Pevensie's thoughts on her children's return.

a home for every season: Idk if you like Lord of the Rings but in this one Susan goes to Middle-earth and finds some healing after the death of her siblings. I really like this one :) untitled: in which the Pevensies seem too old, and their mother notices untitled: in which Mrs. Pevensie wonders where her children's childhood went The Runaway: Susan stays behind to mind the horses while Peter, Edmund, and Lucy investigate the thicket near the lamppost, and is left behind in Narnia when they return home.

I'll be honest though, I haven't actually read that many Narnia fics, or I've forgotten most of the ones I have read and they would be too difficult to find. I've come across some pretty disturbing/uncomfortable Narnia fics in the past, so I kinda just read them as I come across recs instead of really searching for them myself because of that, if that makes sense lol. But if anyone has recs or self-promo they'd like to add to this post please feel free to reblog with your additions!

I have been re-watching Willow in anticipation of the last episode releasing tomorrow and watching episode one again was an education. 

Here are my thoughts, in no particular order:

Willow’s vision, as we see it in the intro, includes the well Boorman located the Lux in, the vault in Skellin, the golden doorway in the Immemorial city, the ruins the Gales chase the party through after Nockmaar and the tall doors in the Immemorial city with the vermiscus goo cat-door. 

Foreshadowing is strong.

Kit is such a butthead, Ruby Cruz is so enjoyable. She starts off such a snot-nosed, naïve kid and transforms into a hero. We love to see it.

Everything about Jade is so pure. She’s just such a good foil for all the anxious, self-conscious, self-deprecating and self-doubting characters she travels with. She’s a loyal knight, and her interactions with Ballentine are heartbreaking in retrospect. I love her.

King Hastur deserves his own post. If anyone was coded evil king, it’s this guy, the tentacle-crowned jerk.

Elora tells Airk she loves him and he doesn’t respond. The fuckin transcript killed me:

Arik: I'm not that guy anymore. 

Elora: Airk, I love you. 

( Airk grunts ) ( Airk sighs )

He’s saved by his knight retrieving him, but again in the bedroom before Airk goes to fight the Gales she says “Let our love be your strength” and he doesn’t reciprocate.

Kit tells Airk that as soon as someone expects something from him he leaves. He immediately is told by Dove she wants to leave him because he’s inconsistent and he asks her to marry him, then leaves and doesn’t come back.

Sorsha always looks like she’s hanging on by a thread, that woman needs a vacation and parenting classes.

GRAYDON. My BOY. You are a mouse, Sorsha called it. Cowed by his father to the extreme, that home life must be unpleasant. What was your plan my dude? 

“I’m going to marry the princess, she can have her love affair with that person she’s slow dancing with, I’ll sequester myself in the library and when our parents abdicate we can have our marriage annulled.”

Poor Gray, giving the half-hug to his mom, hesitating to read Pnakotic, worrying about communal bathing of all things (if you want to read a good fanfic about it, I recommend “a prince’s privacy” by madnessiseverything on Ao3). His character arc is going to stick with me. 

Ngl I saw Elora Danan’s reveal coming a mile away despite the blonde hair. I’ve seen the 1988 Willow movie a thousand times, you can’t tell me the spunky kitchen maid with legendary muffins isn’t a main character, I simply won’t believe you. I enjoyed it regardless, Ellie Bamber’s surprised face is adorable.

Probably some time last week because of the Horrors

I have a bunch of stuffed animals and a scented candle collection, no I don't have kids (also I know nothing)

5. what sports do you play/have you played?

I used to dance a lot, different styles, but my favourite was Standard and Latin Dance. Currently I am just wilting away like an old lettuce

6. what’s the first thing you notice about people?

Usually their hair and their vibe, that's probably because I am most focused on my hair and my vibe when I think about what people notice about me. But I feel like hair says a lot about people, and so does their vibe, obviously

7. what’s your eye colour?

Just your regular old blue-green-ish

8. scary movies or happy endings?

Happy endings all the way, the movie can be scary if it wants to but it has to have a happy ending

9. any special talents?

I can open any plastic wrapping ever and build every IKEA furniture

Hey friend! Thanks for the questions!

15. If you could choose one of your fics to be filmed, which would you choose?

Easy, TAOAT! Tale As Old As Time went from a story summary to what is looking like my most expansive and ambitious project, even if I have seemingly come to a standstill on it, it's on my mind constantly, and the verse plays out in me head all the time. Obviously, most of the story still needs to be written, but if there was any that could become a film, it'd be that one.

28. Share three of your favorite fic writers and why you like them so much.

Ooh, ok two that I can name without hesitating? dirgewithoutmusic and shanastoryteller. Both of them are master storytellers who make me feel every word and take a universe or a story I know and just elevate it in the most obvious but incredible way.

Dirgewithoutmusic is also a published author, but her claim to fame seems to have been her Harry Potter AU rewrites which are masterful.

Shanastoryteller has some of the most incredible retold fairytales I've come across, plus her Gods and Monsters story where she reimagines Greek myths is astounding.

Very fandom specific, but I would give honorary mentions to madnessiseverything in the Narnia fandom for writing exquisite stories about the Pevensie siblings and Inexplicifics for creating a 200k+ alternate take on the Witcher universe and canon in their series "An Accidental Warlord and His Pack".

35. Would you ever kill off a canon character?

😂😂😂 Just did in my recent Jairava fic. But not my usual cup of tea, as you well know.

38. Talk about a review that made your day.

So many! But there have been a few so detailed, or which have been so effusive in explaining what particularly they enjoyed about the story that have not only made my day but stayed with me because of the impact I have made on them. I think in this social media world we live in, we tend to get so attached to the numbers rather than what they mean.

I feel upset when I see a story I worked on only received 20 notes, and 15 of those were likes. But then, you also have to take a moment to remember. That is 15! FIFTEEN! people, living breathing people with lives and jobs and existences that just so happened to read your story and leave you proof of that. It is natural to want to see your story get more attention, or be envious when another's story is doing better. But we should also remember that we are all strangers who don't owe each other anything, so when we do interact? We should appreciate it for the effort to reach out across the interwebs and acknowledge each other.

I think I may have gone too detailed, but I hope the answers are satisfactory Carmina!

luke used to be the tallest of the sunset curve boys, was incredibly proud of this fact, and mildly smug. then alex came back from a family holiday one summer and had hit a massive growth spurt, now the tallest. then reggie and bobby grew and luke ended up being the shortest of the bunch and is Not A Fan. whenever alex wants to take luke down a peg he makes a point of looming or putting items out of reach. reggie refuses to let luke pretend they're the same height :P

Oh my god I love this!!!

There's nothing worse than being the tallest and then eventually not being the tallest anymore.

Also the image of Alex "couldn't hurt a fly" Mercer looming over Luke, trying to intimidate him, is so funny to me, I love it.

Also Luke causally saying that he and Reggie are the same height and Reggie, just as casually, correcting him, what an amazing concept.
