Madison Mini Marathon RECAP Wow, what a day! My Airbnb was less than two miles away from the race festival on the University of Wisconsin campus, so I opted to just run a casual pace to get there. However, I was not expecting four nice hills along the way. Anyway, now I'm warmed up and I connect with the Black Men Run members for a group photo. Several of us were there from five or six cities. Race kicked off pretty well and then it started. My second nemesis behind Mother Nature, the hills! And I don't mean one or two. I was having flashbacks to the Governor's Cup Marathon in Montana. No one told me that Madison was hilly. Somebody set me up. I didn't ask for this. Somebody needs to get hurt. But, on the bright side, it's marathon hill training. Somebody kick me for being Mr. Positive. And that last mile. That hill from hell was dropping bodies like dead flies. Ridiculous! Speaking of Mother Nature, she behaved today. The weather was really nice. The race course, despite the hills, was very scenic. From running through the arboretum to the amazing lake views (lake coverage planned for tomorrow) it was truly a pleasant all around experience this morning. All before 9am. Imagine that. We've been invited to return for next year's race. So let's see what the calendar says. And yes, I ran back up those hills to the Airbnb after the race. I know my body hates me, but that's alright. The love will come back around again. Almost forgot. Shakeout Run Early morning run was on tap for today. Travel prep day for my trip to Madison. This was supposed to be 10-12 miles. Oops, he did it again. The pace was feeling good and I wanted that HM. But, that extra mile pushed my schedule into overdrive. Got home with less than an hour to cool down, shower, dress, ride my bike a mile away up some hills to give my paraplegic client his massage and smile. What's next? Sheesh! Oh, I almost forgot. Hydration Pack Training Run Good grief, here we go again, down the trail with this thing whish wooshing like a washing machine. Today I only consumed the Maurten Drink Mix 320 and my beet juice with tumeric. I used one hydrogel at mile 11, which I realized was too late. But the test gave me the opportunity to see how long the drink mix would sustain in my system. Pain almost every where. PF in right foot, right knee kept buckling, both ankles, left hip ached and neck really tight. Run the National Arboretum Ran from home to run 1 1/4 laps of those hills. Took my run all the way to the top. The Capitol Columns were my finish line. Didn't run as fast today, but the Maurten Drink Mix 320 still helped me climb those hills. Even without the brace I forgot to wear. Today I ate an avocado before consuming the drink mix. I wonder if that affected it some.
