2023 writing round up
Tagged by @bidoofenergy :)))) not tagging anyone bc I’d have to look up usernames and im tired but if we are mutuals I am tagging you in my heart but I’m too lazy to look up how to spell your urls
Rules: Share what you wrote this year! It can be works you posted to Ao3, Wattpad, Tumblr, or anywhere else! You can share everything you wrote or just the ones you’re most excited about.
January
Nothing worth sharing for January tbh
February
Look what you’ve become- a oneshot about Patroclus I wrote because I got very emotional about how the men in the war were both very gentle and also hardened killers. I like this one a lot.
March
After all the sorrow we’ll we riding high - fic in my double life college au series about Pearl going off the rails. I think this whole series has really stretched me as a writer and I’m very glad for that.
April
When the forest is what you’ve become there’s still some songs you haven’t sung- I wrote this when Martyn won limited life and it’s the first and only time I’ve dipped my toe into watcher lore. I wish it had gotten more hits.
May
When I fall asleep- another piece of my double life college au. I wrote this one because I was very sick at the time but knew anything I wrote for my long fics would be garbage. So I wrote this instead.
June
Yeah I did not write much in June either.
July
Heroides- I read heroides by Ovid and then I read Circe by Madeline miller and I thought it would be cool to put my own take on it. Yeah. Greek myths told from the woman’s perspective.
August
When all the light burns out my pyre- I read a lot this year and this was the fic I wrote after finishing lotr.
September
I’m an Alan girl in a Barbie world- I saw the Barbie movie and as a non-binary lesbian of course I had to write about gender. My favorite line I wrote from it is: “It’s a game of See? We have people that look different in Barbieland. [She twists her head 360 degrees] But you have to be acceptably weird to be included.”
October
Death is something you return to- Arthurian legend reincarnation au. not my best work but something I’m having a ton of fun with regardless.
November
Monotony, punctuated by moments of extreme terror- this one is another Arthurian reincarnation au. I wrote it after I went through a bunch of World War Two correspondences for work and I got inspired.
December
Fabulae Dido- this one is straight up just me trying to practice Latin prosecomp. It has zero hits I assume because it’s in Latin not English.

For the fanfic ask: A.10, B.4, C.8, and D.10!
(From this ask HERE)
Thanks for sending this friend! I'm always so excited to answer your asks!
A10: Who did you have your first fanfic-related conversation with? What was it about?
If I remember correctly it was in grade 7 to my friend Rose, who introduced me to fanfiction (in the form of quizzes on Quizzila. That's how long ago it was). I don't remember the specifics for the story, but it was probably for Inu Yasha.
B4: Who is your current favourite author? What is their best story?
My current favourite author is Madeline Miller who wrote Song of Achilles. I'm in love with the story and it's easily my favourite of hers. (I also read her other book Circe.)
C8: What is one plot twist you wish people would stop using?
Getting real sick of the trope "The villain is sympathetic" that seems to be the thing in media. Don't get me wrong; I love characters with depth and nuance. I just feel it's being slightly over done where now every story feels their villain needs to be sympathetic or they're not a "well written" character. Depending on the narrative those sorts of villains do not fit the story being told.
Sometimes all I want is a villain who is unapologetically evil with no sympathy. Or I want depth but I want them to be pathetic once their motives are revealed.
D.10 What is one story idea you really want to read but no one has written yet?
I'm a big fan of outsider POV stories and I think they're largely under-utilized as a story telling method. Always love the ordinary person looking at the main character going "Glad that's not me". The comedic potential...
For fanfiction I've always wanted to write a Kiznaiver AU with the Awakening Trio but I never found a way to work it out. I've written three false starts before giving up.

My top 3 books of 2025 that I’ve read this year
1) This Is How You Lose The Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone.
One of the most poetic books I’ve ever read I can’t even explain it. It’s one of those books where you just have to read it without looking it up prior to reading.
2) Circe by Madeline Miller
This book was also kinda poetic. I loved the way Circe was Portrayed and the storytelling is just so enchanting.
3) The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
I couldn’t put this book down and every twist and turn was so captivating. This is a book I could read a 100 times and not get sick of.

Do you have any book recommendations?
I do! I highly recommend these violent delights by chloe gong ( it's a romeo and juliet retelling with a twist) and the song of Achilles by madeline miller ( this one is about archilles and patroclus being together so its a mlm) both are ones I've read recently and can not stop thinking about them. Then just a normal romance I've read part of but really liked so far is unhoneymooners by christina lauren ( a girl and the guy she doesn't like have to go on her sisters' honeymoon because her sister and husband got sick and didn't want the trip to go to waste)
#a spy has been found [anon]#book recs with aims#i’ve got about 3-4 other books i plan on reading so i will have more at the end of the month too

rules: pick five shows, then answer the following questions. don’t cheat. tag some people. tagged by: @viceprone 🤪 tagging: @outoftheashcs, @notsogeniusgirls, @shadowyavuz and anyone else who feels like doing it!
1. Charmed 2. New Girl 3. Big Little Lies 4. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend 5. Stranger Things
WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE CHARACTER IN 2? nick miller always. i see to much of myself in him because he’s anti-social, a bit miserable, cynical and a complete old fogey. i am all of these things lmfao. that being said, i absolutely love winston too. it’s really hard for me to pick favourites lmao.
WHO IS YOUR LEAST FAVOURITE CHARACTER IN 1? billie. worst fuckin character ever. i can’t. no further explanation is needed.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE EPISODE OF 4? “getting over jeff” mainly because paula sings about the first penis she saw and that song never fails to make me cackle.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE SEASON OF 5? hmmm probably season 2 I think. badass babysitter steve protecting the kids will forever be my fave. also poor bob.
WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE COUPLE IN 3? ehhh none really. i thought jane could’ve had something cute with the guy who owns the coffee shop in season one but he just completely fucking disappeared in season two lmao. madeline and ed have a funny dynamic, but i wouldn’t say they’re my fave couple bcos she cheated on him (with santiago cabrera and who fucking wouldn’t?????). i don’t feel like there are any healthy couples in big little lies tbh lmao.
WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE COUPLE IN 2? listen i love nick and jess and they have the whole grumpy ass meets literal ray of sunshine and i love it. but i also love winston and aly. i can’t pick because i’m too indecisive.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE EPISODE OF 5? the one with badass babysitter steve and the demodogs in seadon two. the season three finale was pretty good too.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE SEASON OF 2? idk, i’m rewatching it atm so i’ll say season one. it’s the one i actually remember most of.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU WATCHED 1? a looong time. i watched it a little when i was a kid - i remember every saturday when i went to my granny’s she would have it on. i don’t think i really understood it much then tbh but i loved the fact they were witches. there are reruns on tv all the time now and i’m in the process of rewatching it all from the start but i’m slow af.
HOW DID YOU BECOME INTERESTED IN 3? i think my auntie told me to watch it? i’m shit at taking tv shows recs from people and it took me ages to watch but one day i was off work sick and i binge watched all of season one in one day.
WHICH DO YOU PREFER, 1, 2, OR 5? charmed trash forever lmao.
WHICH SHOW HAVE YOU SEEN MORE EPISODES OF - 1 OR 3? charmed because there are more episodes of it than big little lies.
IF YOU COULD BE ANYONE FROM 4, WHO WOULD YOU BE? oooh, that’s hard. probably heather because she’s by far the coolest.
PAIR TWO CHARACTERS IN 1 WHO WOULD MAKE AN UNLIKELY BUT STRANGELY OKAY COUPLE? okay, i saw something where someone had paired up prue and cole and i could sort of see it??? idk they were both v opinionated and feisty and they had that one ep where they went back in time to save phoebe and actually worked together. also, even though they were an actual couple on the show for a while, i loved piper and dan. soz.
OVERALL, WHICH SHOW HAS A BETTER STORYLINE, 3 OR 5? i love both but big little lies is better plot-wise imo. so many good twists.
WHICH HAS BETTER THEME MUSIC, 2 OR 4? omg that’s so hard - both are great. i think crazy ex gf just about snags it though because they’re so creative with the music on that show.

It’s Time for Kyrsten’s Opinion: LGBT+ recommendations Edition
Hello everyone! In case you did not know, October is LGBT history month so I thought I would compile a list of some of my LGBT+ recommendations for you guys! Under the read more will be a list of books I have read that deal with LGBT+ characters. If you have read any of the books I listed or have any recommendations please feel free to shoot me over a message or reblog and add your own. All right well, before I make this intro any longer than it already is, under the cut are my recommendations! Enjoy and let me know what you think :)
History is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera
Griffin’s ex boyfriend dies and his entire world seems like it explodes. Theo, Griffin’s ex boyfriend, moved to CAlifornia to attend college and while he was there met Jackson, but Griffin knew that they would end up together one day. Griffin hates Jackson and feels like Jackson hates him back because they see the each other as competition for Theo.
Shine by Lauren Myracle
Shine is about a small southern town that is shocked when a beloved member of the community, Patrick is attacked and left nearly dead, strung up to a gas station pump. The local police chalk up the crime to a group of kids from a neighboring school trying to play a sick joke, however, Patrick’s old friend, Cat can’t help but shake the feeling that there is more to the story than that. ** TRIGGER WARNING for homophobic language and violence **
Far From You by Tess Sharpe
Sophie Winters is recovering from an addiction to Oxycontin after a car crash when she was fourteen years old leaves her with scars and a bum leg. When she is confronted with her best friend, Mina in the woods by a masked man, Sophie escapes, but Mina does not. Now, after coming home from a forced trip to rehab, Sophie’s entire world is twisted as she struggles with dealing with the stigma that comes with being a recovering drug addict, being seen as someone who could have easily saved Mina’s life, and on top of all of that grieving the loss of a friend and partner.
The Vast Fields of Ordinary by Nick Burd
Dade Hamilton is trying to enjoy his summer before heading off to college, unfortunately it seems that the universe may have other plans for him. He has a job he hates, a boyfriend (if you can even call him that) doesn’t acknowledge their relationship when they’re in public, and his parents are on the verge of a divorce. When he meets Alex Kincaid, a mysterious new boy to the town who makes Dade reevaluate just how awful this summer will be.
Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
Achilles is going to be a legend. He’s strong, beautiful, and swift. Patroclus is an embarrassment to his father. He’s small, weak and fragile. They come together after Patroclus is banished from his own kingdom after committing a terrible crime. They train together to fight in a war and grow closer as friends and become each other’s first love interests.
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz
Dante can swim, he is self - assured, he gets lost in poetry and art. Ari can’t swim, he struggles with self - worth, Somehow, the two of them are able to come together and develop a bond. They help each other become the person they want to be.
Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan
On a cold night in Chicago, two strangers cross paths, by the fate of the universe they are at the same place, at the same time, and have the same name: Will Grayson. Their lives intertwine even if they run with two completely different crowds. This is definitely not my favorite book, by any means, but it’s still LGBT+ representation in a book and just because I didn’t love it doesn’t mean someone else won’t.
Carry on by Rainbow Rowell
Simon Snow is “The Chosen One and Baz is his evil vampire roommate at their school. They are sworn enemies. Baz is evil and Simon is going to die trying to prove that. Simon is a busy body who doesn’t know what he’s talking about and Baz is going to die trying to prove that. It’s essentially a retelling of Harry Potter with new students. If you read Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell this is I believe that fanfiction that Cath is working on throughout the book.
We Are The Ants by Shaun David Hutchinson
This is what Henry knows for a fact: his mom is a struggling single mother, his older brother is a tool, his grandmother is slowly succumbing to Alzheimer's, and his boyfriend committed suicide. What Henry is unsure of is why of all people in the entire planet, the aliens chose him to choose whether or not he destroys the planet and why they gave him 144 days to decide. Henry struggles with whether or not the planet is worth saving. Henry struggles with the negative sides of life, his family that’s falling apart, his school life that is only described as Hell and the grief of losing his boyfriend. However, he also wants to live in a world that’s worth saving, a world where he lives with his mother who is trying her hardest to get her family out of their situation, a world where his brother and girlfriend bring a baby into the family that Henry gets to see grow up, and a world where he finds love again in a new boy.

Fantasy is MY SHIT. OKAY so this isn't as good of a list as I'd like because I do most of my reading online atm (god bless ao3 for free entertainment) but here:
- Caraval by Stephanie Garber - i just read this one, had enough twists and turns to keep me entertained the entire way through
- Distant Waves by Suzanne Weyn - involves psychics, the Titanic and Nikola Tesla. I haven't read it in ages but it's one of my favourites.
- Carry On by Rainbow Rowell - LGBT fantasy YA, can be a little confusing at first but great when you get into the groove of it
- All For The Game series by Nora Sakavic - LGBT+, good for jocks, every TRIGGER WARNING UNDER THE SUN but an awesome series
- The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller - another gay book, fucking excellent
- The Raven Cycle series by Maggie Stiefvater - my all time fave, has ghosts, psychics and farmer gays
- The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S Lewis - it's just important
- Someday Someday Maybe by Lauren Graham - her autobiography, if you've ever watched Gilmore Girls you'll love it
- How To Ruin Everything by George Watsky - another autobiography but extremely entertaining
- The Martian by Andy Weir - if you loved the film you will love the book
- Star Trek Academy: Collision Course by William Shatner - great if you're a Trekkie and you love teenaged Spock and Kirk, less great when you realise Shatner abandoned the series
- The Invisible Library by Genevieve Cogman - I'm reading this at the moment it's good so far pls read it with me
And that's it for now because i don't have access to my bookshelf at home so my mind has gone blank, I didn't list any of my history or physics books but if anyone's interested in prehistoric Britain I've got some sick recs hmu
As a story boy any recommendations for the poetry geeks in your ask box??
Any specific genre requests?
