WIP Wednesday: Go-Rock Squad Raid
Started writing this the other week for some fun. When I was a kid, the go rock raid was my second favorite mission bc i just LOVED that the other player character would come to assist you. my little rangershipping heart just MELTED EVERY TIME
----
In the back of her mind, somewhere, Solana wondered how Freddie was holding up. She didn’t envy his position as an outside decoy, but she wondered if it was easier than stirring things up inside. At least he likely had access to assist pokemon that were on the outside. Here, deep in the base, she was purely reliant on any of the pokemon that happened to escape from the Go-Rock Squad, and that was few and far between. Too many of them were far too exhausted to offer her any help, and so all she could do was a quick turn around of capture and release.
Below her, Plusle whined, a shake of her head, telling Solana her idea for now was a bust.
The plan had been to cause more trouble by attempting to fry some of the servers. Not only would it draw more attention to her by destroying the security system, buying more time for Spenser, it would potentially destroy any information they had on the Super Stylers to begin with.
“C’mon,” Solana said, reaching down to scoop up her partner.
She whined again in response, but quickly assumed her spot back on her shoulder.
“There’s gotta be a Raichu or Electabuzz around here somewhere,” she said as she peered around the corner.
“There you are!”
She took off in an instant, not worrying about how many grunts were on her tail. The more attention on her, the less there would be on Spenser, and that was all she was here to do. Anything else she managed would just be a bonus.
Like clockwork, eventually Solana found herself cornered. Surrounded on all sides by Go-Rock grunts and their brainwashed pokemon. Rinse and repeat, doing what she did best, she and Plusle made quick work of capturing their pokemon, a Metang being the only one willing to stick around, but more than enough for her needs. Simply having such a large pokemon on her side sent the remainder of the grunts running.
After scaring them away, Metang seemed to plead with her. It wanted to be free, simply repaying its debt to her.
She nodded. “I’ll get you out of here,” she said.
There had to be a way out. The cliffside their base had been built into had plenty of small ledges.
By the time she managed to find an exit suitable for the Metang, she found herself exhausted. Plusle patted her face from her shoulder, but it was all she could do to keep herself from falling over.
How one base contained so many grunts…
“You should be safe now,” she said to the pokemon.
With a nod, the pokemon was already out the door, eager to get away from the base.
As it fled, she realized she should have asked it to smash up the servers back in the base’s belly.
That would have to wait. A minute of fresh air, and she told herself she would be fine from there.
Outside, her eyes struggled to adjust to the change in light; pain pounding behind her eyes.
“Solana!”
Instantly, she was back on alert, worried that one of the grunts had followed after her; but all those fears were put to rest the second she realized she recognized the voice.
Lunick.
From the other end of the long cliffside ledge, Lunick had appeared from another entrance, and was already running over to her.
Before he could even get another word out, Solana had met him halfway, arms wrapped tightly around his torso in a crushing hug. “You don’t know how happy I am to see you.”
His arms were instantly around her in a protective hold. “Are you okay? Are you hurt?” he asked.
“No,” she said. “Just a little worn out.”
Plusle lept from her shoulder, joining Minun on the ground, eagerly rubbing cheeks with each other. Sparks flew between their cheeks, giving Plusle a small recharge.
It was all too fitting, she thought, because it was exactly what Lunick was doing for her, whether he even realized it or not. A quick recharge. A reminder of what she was fighting for. A goal beyond the Super Styler to work towards.
“You sure you don’t need me to contact Joel? I can--”
“No, I’m good, I promise. Just…” She paused to take a deep breath. “Glad you’re here.”
He laughed lightly, pushing on her just enough to be able to look at her. “C’mon, I couldn’t let you have all the fun! Even if they hadn’t assigned me, I would’ve snuck over here to be with you, anyways,” he said with a laugh.
The thought was so quick she barely registered it, but even a fraction of a second was enough to remind herself to quash the feeling.
His gorgeous smile was exactly what she needed right now.
“Ready to cause some trouble?” she asked, stepping just far enough away to grab a hand, ready to pull him along.
“With you? Absolutely!” he said, squeezing her hand. “Let’s stir up a ruckus like there’s no tomorrow!”
With a laugh, she pulled him along, intent on getting back to the servers. Now with Lunick and Minun, she might be able to go through with her plan to overload the servers. The two pokemon on their own wouldn't be able to get past the spark protection, but together, powering each other up with their abilities…
Despite the maze-like nature of the base, there were enough remnants of her battles with the Go-Rock grunts that she managed to lead them back to the server racks.
Turning back to Lunick, she readied herself to explain her plan, but he was already a step ahead of her.
“Don’t worry- I’m thinking what you’re thinking,” he said, turning back to his partner pokemon.
“Two birds, one stone,” she said, nodding to Plusle.
The two pokemon squeaked at one another, squeezing under the server rack to get in the middle of them. Cheering the other on, hyping one another up, a few loud squeaks later, and Solana and Lunick had to both shield their eyes at the large flash of electricity, stepping back in case the sparks jumped.
No sooner than it had faded, a loud alarm started going off throughout the base.
“C’mon, you two!” Lunick called, reaching back for Solana’s hand to pull her along.
The halls had all dimmed to a red glow, emergency lighting their only guide.
