What was the first LGBTQIA+ comic book that you ever read?

It was Deathwish, a spin-off of the Milestone Comics title Hardware created by Madeleine Blaustein, J.H. Williams III, and Jimmy Palmiotti. It was published and distributed by DC Comics between 1994-1995.

Deathwish #4 (1995) Milestone Comics

Deathwish tells the story of Lieutenant Marisa Rahm, a transgender detective for the Dakota City Police Department. When trans women around the city begin dying and her girlfriend is abducted, Rahm embarks upon a bloody mission to stop a psychotic serial killer, and save her love.

Deathwish #4 (1995) Milestone Comics

Rahm was one of the first fictional trans women I’d ever seen portrayed as something other than a plot device. She was a truly powerful force to be reckoned with. Deathwish introduced me to drag, ballroom culture, and helped me understand the difference between gender identity and sexual preference as a youth. I definitely recommend it.

Madeleine “Maddie” Joan Blaustein (1960-2008)

Deathwish was written by transgender voice actress and writer Madeleine “Maddie” Joan Blaustein, and Yves Fezzani. Sadly, she passed away from an untreated stomach virus, possibly gastroenteritis, in 2008.

it’s been 5 years since i was sexually assaulted. when it happened i was 21, addicted to pills and coke and alcohol. the months that followed were some of the darkest in my life—the guilt, the isolation, the confusion, the fear, the pain. it has taken me y e a r s to process and recover and even though i am in a much better place now (4.5 years off hard drugs, in a healthy relationship, out of therapy), sometimes it still feels like it happened yesterday. it is truly something that does not go away. but my life has grown bigger around it, and i don’t think about it all the time anymore, and i can look at myself in the mirror and feel present in my body again. im in a constant state of healing and as i grow im going to keep reinventing myself and changing and changing and changing, again and again and again

DPxDC prompt where Jim Gordon lost contact with his sisters, Maddie and Alicia, some time ago.

Maddie was always the reckless sort, always one to run off chasing, well-- ghosts. As for Alicia, she'd never gone very far from their hometown, and they'd been on bad terms since Jim left for Gotham and joined the police force.

They drifted apart, with Jim hardly aware of the milestones in his sisters' lives. Alicia was hardly one to use the phone and would never quite give Jim a straight answer to Maddie's whereabouts. Considering some… legal troubles she and her now-husband had in college, Jim could only assume what she'd gotten up to over the years.

Still, Jim was always busy. Life went on, and he laid down his roots in Gotham. There was never a good time to head back to Arkansas. Never enough drive to…

That is, until Alicia called him one day, for the first time in years.

"Hey, Jimmy," she started, nervous in a way she never was. "I know we don't talk much, but I'm real worried about Maddie's kids."

My 10yo daughter, Maddie, is in love with all things Zelda. She designed a picture of Zelda's mom at school. A girl in her class called it “dumb”, and she was devastated. I tried to reassure her that her design was amazing and she is a wonderful artist, but words from peers can sting sometimes. So I decided that for this DTIYS I would feature her original Queen Zelda design! I plan to show her all the entries of talented artists that use her drawing as inspiration for their own. Will you join me in celebrating her? It's a surprise. She has no idea!🥰

The episode in which Buck and Tommy reach a significant relationship milestone— something like moving in together, telling each other "I love you," having a first anniversary, or a casual proposal— should be titled "The Butterfly Effect."

Part of the episode's A-plot would consist of Tommy having a close call during an emergency— after which it is revealed to Buck that Chimney saved Tommy's life after Tommy jokes that he's glad he's okay because Chim's not around to save his ass anymore (Chim then brags about how much of a hero he is and how, if not for him, Tommy and Buck would never have met)— and of Maddie and Jee-Yun running errands all day, with Maddie doing little things to help others. The emergencies would center around narratives about how just one small change would have prevented the 9-1-1 call. One woman at a scene remarks that if "that woman" (Maddie) hadn't helped her earlier, it would have been her on the way to the hospital instead. Near the end of the episode, Buck and Tommy visit Maddie, Chim, and Jee-Yun (maybe for a family dinner or something). Jee-Yun almost has a terrible and very serious yet banal accident (like falling or hitting her head), but Tommy steps in on time and stops it. Chimney realizes that if he had never saved Tommy all those years ago and introduced Tommy to Buck, his daughter's fate at that moment would have been very different. The episode then ends with Buck reflecting on the significance of his relationship with Tommy and how much he means to him. The two men then decide together to take "the next step" in their relationship.

Just one small change. Tommy would have died. Buck would not have begun at the 118 (that vacancy would have been filled well before he left the academy). Chim would not have met Maddie. Jee-Yun would not have been born. There would have been no cruise ship rescue. Buck would never have met Tommy. And everyone's lives would have looked a lot more like those in Buck's coma dream.
