Behold!
Tumblr media
I finally, FINALLY, got all my main Inquisition OCs created and posed for a picture.
After scouring through mods I'm pretty satisfied with how this turned out! A couple of them still have some tweeking and I might hunt down some more clothing mods but all in all, it feels good to finally get to this point. It's not perfect, the poses don't account for the height mod I used but I think I got them together well enough that it doesn't matter much.
Special shout out to @simmireen for this pose. There aren't many for larger groups without kids/toddlers/babies and this one worked out perfectly. You can find this pose mod here.
Everyone is labeled under the cut:

Tana Reads 2017: A SLEW OF THINGS, part one
Well, here we are again: a deluge of things I’ve read and some quick thoughts on each one. I’ll be finishing up my last challenge book today/tomorrow, and then I’ll do a quick summary post of the year as a whole -- my favourite reads, my most hated Did Not Finish title, which books I ended up buying even though I’m trying not to buy books, and how many books I read had straight white protags. For now, however:
13/25: Akata Witch
Tumblr media
Writing: 4/5
Feelings: 3/5
Stay Up Too Late Factor: 3/5
Overall: 4.5/5
This book is aimed a bit young for me to personally fall in love with, but Okorafor’s voice is fresh and necessary. Akata Witch is set in Nigeria and features a young albino Nigerian-American as its heroine. The cast of characters is fantastic, vivid and well-realized. The world-building is fucking brilliant, and reading an Afrocentric coming-of-age story with MAGIC is, well, simply the best. Highly recommended, especially for any young readers in your life! (I’d go 11/12 up, just to be safe -- there’s some darkness in this one!)
Bonus points: The whole cast is black, POC writer, girls taking no shit from the patriarchy!
14/25: The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue
Tumblr media
Writing: 5/5
Feelings: 5!/5!
Stay Up Too Late Factor: 5/5
Overall: 5/5
AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH! THIS BOOK! Listen, if you’re somewhat fond of Leonid Trevelyan, you will like this. Monty is a kinder version of a wayward son and, while the plot goes a little sideways at the end (in a fun, albeit unexpected, way!), this book is perfection. Like a nice blanket you wrap around yourself as you sink into a delighted and giddy haze of self-care. Bandits! Mysteries! INTERSECTIONALITY! WELL-RESEARCHED HISTORICAL FICTION! Gentleman’s Guide has it all, friends, and Mackenzi Lee is also lined up to write a series of Loki novels for Marvel (which will be hella queer) and I will be the first in line to buy them.
Bonus points: Queer characters abound, an atypical and brilliant sister, queer author, historical treatment of disability and race, and the slow realization of a (delightfully) asinine protag that the world is NOT all about him and that he has a HELL of a lot to learn
+4/25: My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness
Tumblr media
Writing: 3/5
Feelings: 3.5/5
Stay Up Too Late Factor: NA (because of its length)
Art: 5/5 (Really lovely!)
Overall: 3/5
I picked this comic up on the recommendation of Autostraddle and, while I’m glad that I read it, it didn’t really hit all the notes I wanted it to. Which is kind of a shitty thing to say about a very vulnerable and autobiographical comic/memoir, but there you have it. Worth a read if you like comics more than I do, or if reflections on self-esteem, disordered eating, and self-harm are especially helpful for you. If you ask nicely, I might even send you my copy.
Bonus points: Queer POC author/artist (who also deals with mental illness)!
15/25: Hacking Project-Based Learning
This one doesn’t get a rating, because it’s a work book. That being said, if you, like me, enjoy radically rethinking how we work in classrooms, this one’s a quick, practical, and immensely helpful book. The whole series is awesome! I’ve already recommended it to other teachers. So, uh... 5/5?
16/25: Icefall
Tumblr media
Writing: 4/5 (gorgeous line-by-line; pacing needed work)
Feelings: 4/5
Stay Up Too Late Factor: 3/5
Overall: 3.5/5
This is a well-researched and beautifully written story about, well, the power of stories. There’s a solid mystery at its center and I very much enjoyed reading it, although the pacing issues meant that I sometimes had a hard time picking it back up after I set it down. The cover is very misleading: this is a quiet, contemplative book that takes place on a small set, a secret holding iced in by the frozen fjords. Absolutely worth a read, and best yet: I picked it up for $4 on clearance.
17/25: Dreadnought
Tumblr media
Writing: 4/5
Feelings: 5/5
Stay Up Too Late Factor: 4/5
Overall: 4/5
idk what I can say about this besides this: Dreadnought is a story featuring a trans heroine with super powers (!!), a great cast of other superheroes, really fun world-building, exciting and punchy action sequences, and a perfectly comic-book-like plot. It’s fun, and I promise that if you pick this story up, you’ll enjoy the experience immensely. I can’t wait to read the next one!
Content notes: This deals pretty seriously with dysphoria and transphobia, but Daniels has grounded it all in her own experiences and the story is ultimately uplifting.
Bonus points: Queer trans protag, trans author whose Twitter account is a great source of joy for me (her Twitter name is currently “I didn’t ask for longer names I asked for no nazis,” which, yes), basically a shiny and bright superhero world and the greatest hero ever, who might cry a lot but also kicks a lot of ass!

I made a thing...
All of the individual OC pages are under construction and need a lot more work but I've finally created a directory of sorts for my babies!
I still have a few OCs to work out and get proper screenshots for as well as adding my Warden and Hawke into the mix. I won't be putting my Rook on here until I play the game and can really feel out the direction I'm looking to go with them.
Anywho, if you'd like to check them out:
Periwinkle Lightning Universe
~I used Canva to make this site which isn't the most ideal for things sometimes so if you see any errors or have feedback, please let me know! ^.^

Gabaldon is a gifted author For the many readers who love the Outlander series, the Lord John series elaborates and fills in many extra details about Jamie's life and events in the years between Culloden and Claire's return, as well as fleshing out many characters and plot details that appear in later books in the Outlander series. I decided to read these to get my fix while waiting for the next Outlander book. In the process, I discovered that the Lord John books easily stand on their own as well-written stories. I have come to care about and appreciate Lord John's character, who is so well developed in these books, as well as other family members and characters who will reappear in the Outlander books. Finally, I have gained a deeper appreciation for how well Diana Gabaldon writes and how so very good she is at her craft. Go to Amazon
Lord John: Always an engaging character There hasn't been a book by this author that I have not enjoyed. She writes consistently compelling tales that are enticingly revealing of the characteristics and customs of the time period in which they are set. I find all of her books irresistible. Go to Amazon
Diana Gabaldon is a supreme writer. Diana Gabaldon is a supreme writer. Her characters come alive, her detailed descriptions of the places, clothing, food & drink transport you back to the 17th century. I've read all 4 of her Lord John Grey novellas & am looking forward to reading her recently released Seven Stones to Stand or Fall. This is a compilation of 7 short stories that continue the stories of Outlander characters Lord John Grey, his brother Hal, Ian Murray, Jamie Fraser, Comte St. Germaine, Master Raymond, & Roger MacKenzie's parents. Go to Amazon
Good Solid Read This is a continuation of Lord John Grey's adventures, for want of a better word. Although this is another book set between Voyager and Drums of Autumn, this is still following Lord John. I really like his character and the story being told by Diana Gabaldon. Again, set in the mid 1700's, we follow Lord John and the mystery surrounding the Honorable Joseph Trevelyan, who is engaged to his cousin Olivia. We are lead through twists and turns and the outcome is very surprising in the end. The only thing that links this book to the Outlander series is the occasional mention of some aspect of Jamie Fraser or his name in Lord John's thoughts. Go to Amazon
A great back story on Lord John Grey. When reading a book by Diana Gabaldon you become part of the story. She writes in a way that makes you see the characters right in front of you. Having read all of the Outlander books, I love getting the back story on Lord John Grey to better understand his character. I can't put the books by Gabaldon down so I get through them quickly no matter how long they are. As always, a fun and interesting read. Go to Amazon
Need more Outlander? Lord John's stories will fill in the gap. This is a continuation of stories about Lord John from the Outlander series. I have read all the Outlander books and am eagerly awaiting the return of the series on Starz. Lord John is a very interesting character and reading these stories that take place at various times over the span of the Outlander books gives a fuller picture of the complexities of his relationship with Jamie Fraser. His adventures are definitely worth the extra novels. Go to Amazon
Social lives I enjoyed this book. Interesting the social lives of people and how they kept things secret. It was a little confusing remembering all the names, but overall very good Go to Amazon
Lord John could be a forensic examiner! Love him! I must first say that I will only speak of Lord John as though he were here approving this review of himself. I start each morning (before the drudgery of corporate employment) w a quick stop in 18th century London for a walk (or carriage ride) with Lord John. This morning we visited a wineseller in London, searching for a rare "German red with layers of vanilla, plum, pear notes and a delectable aftertaste of buttered toast". omg. I don't want to go to work; I want to drink wine with Lord John...and look at dead bodies, making witty forensic observations! Go to Amazon
Diana delivers Good story as a stand alone, nice background to Lord John too Love Diana Gabaldon Diana Gabaldon is clearly my favorite author. Her characters come to life with vivid ... enjoyed! Hard to follow Five Stars Too English Five Stars Five Stars
