Top Gun in Color Event Sign-up!

Ready to celebrate Top Gun characters of color? Have a Fanback fic idea brewing? Always imagined there was a little more going on between Javy and Jake? Think Hondo needs a little TLC? This event is for you! 

This is a POC-focused Top Gun event. Fic, art, and other creations are welcome. All creations must focus on at least one character who is a POC. The work may be romantic, platonic, or a single-character study.

The minimum word count for fic is 500 words and the minimum contribution for art is a black and white sketch.

Sign-ups run through March 17th at 10 pm ET and submissions will be published to the collection May 3rd - May 6th.

"You know," Jake murmured, "Bluebonnets might be my favorite flower." Javy took a moment, looking behind them at the flowers and then turning to Jake, who had a barely discernible blush along his cheeks. He smiled. "They're mine too." Jake's blush solidified, and the corners of his mouth twitched.

My pieces for the @topgunhappilyeverafter !! I had @viridimessorem and their prompt was something along the lines of "one person isn't expecting anything and the other goes all out", and that just fit so well with macheresin.....I couldn't help myself!

It's gonna be wild when everyone finds out that Swamp Boy Jake's real first name is Tennessee, I feel like Javy knows and is an emergency contact for all the kids but I feel like everyone else would lose it over the kids calling him Ness

YESSS — all the swamp kids have odd names and the squad thinks it’s funny and joins in on the Nessie jokes until Ice (new favorite grandpa) asks one of the swamp chickens — why?

The kids’ names are their mother’s wishes for them. That's why so many of them are places, except for Gunny and Mack. Gunner is because she wanted him to be able to defend himself. Mackenzie because it was her maiden name. Each name is a little prayer of let this one be free.

Javy 100% knows. Javy knew Jake back when he was Ness. He was one of the only people who was kind to the swamp kids and would leave food, blankets, clothes and books in Jake’s bags and locker. He came to school so rarely, but he was so appreciative when he found the little bundles. Javy had the BIGGEST crush on Ness while they were growing up. But it faded when they grew up and he realized they were better off facing the world together as something like QP partners.

He is absolutely an unofficial swamp boy. His Ma and Pa also took in the swamp chickens when Jake had to dash off for training and a few brief deployments over the years. They wish they could have done more, but trying to get Jake to accept help is like trying to tame a feral cat.

No one knows what happened to the swamp kids’ mother, they all just think she killed herself — jumped in and drowned on purpose.

Just like no one knows where Pa Seresin went 👀 just up and disappeared one day.

Crazy things happen in the swamp.
