(ive only been able to watch a few scattered episodes thus far so my knowledge base is very incomplete)

oh my GODD macdennis..... okay. they've been flatmates for pretty much their entire adult lives. they're codependent losers. but also Mac is always following Dennis around like some kind of puppy dog and Dennis has come to resent him for it, in a way. see. Dennis has only ever known love as some kind of manipulation technique, so he's always manipulating Mac only to find that Mac is.... Not Like That. but also it's the most toxic relationship on the planet because they are allergic to communicating to each other

there are various thoughts about whether Mac and Dennis have had sex and/or when they started having sex. personally I don't think they've ever had normal sex, but they sure have been fucking for a good while. I mean, Dennis once controlled Mac's ass using anal beads and if that's not sex I don't know what is. the only circumstance I can possibly imagine them having had sex at this point is if Dennis does it out of sheer anger at Mac (because Dennis knows that Mac is in love with him, the ultimate act of manipulation and codependency would be to fuck him)

as for Dee? she has dated a few guys, but the way she talks about men is so mechanical it cannot be real attraction. she's insecure as hell on account of all the childhood trauma + on account of the gang constantly making fun of her. so I think to Dee, sex with men is a way of getting positive attention that she doesn't get from anywhere else. BUT. the woman is clearly so so in love with the waitress. I choose to believe they banged in the Boggs: Lady's Reboot episode, but they also may have banged in Who Pooped the Bed?. Dee is always so so angry at the waitress, and I definitely think part of this is that the waitress makes her feel things she doesn't want to feel, and it's starting to unravel her cishet outer layer

also this is by the by, but my partner and I also both prescribe to the idea that all of the Reynolds are trans and just forgot about it. Dee and Dennis swapped genders at some point in high school, and their parents were too neglectful to notice. Frank is also trans but he transitioned so long ago that he's also forgotten. it would make the whole "never having been involved in conception" thing make sense. none of that actually really fits with the canon of the show but it is a funny thing to think about

hi i adore the gifset you made in response to those two glenn quotes 💕 i was just wondering, i know the quote about funny vs entertaining is from the podcast that he appeared on recently, but where is the other one from? i kept seeing people talk about it and i assumed it was from the same interview so i watched it and there was no mention of macden lol

As for that second crossed out little half a quote, it's from a tweet from a fan, whose wife, when drunk, supposedly asked Glenn if Macdennis was ever going to "go canon," (which is vague enough already), and he allegedly responded, "no, it's funnier if they don't," that was floating around the last week as far as I know, (so for all we know it wasn't even exactly what was said? I'm not sure if there was a video?), and a lot of people were freaking out a little, understandably upset by that answer, saying they were disappointed, saying Glenn let them down, yada yada yada, when 1. other than arguing that Macdennis is already canon in a million ways, and there are plenty of funny ways they could continue with it if they solidified it in whatever way people would consider more "official", it's important to note, Sunny hasn't always made their choices based on what's funniest but also based on what makes sense for the characters, and 2. with the other quote from him about yes, 'it's not funny enough, but is it entertaining, is it interesting to watch?' being released literally just like a day? or days before, it feels like weirdly deliberate wording. But even if it wasn't, I don't think the former answer really means much because we know how he's responded in previous interactions, (it wouldn't be the greatest will they won't they if he definitively said they won't), and also one of the many things that makes Sunny so fascinating in the first place, (not just with Macdennis because there's sooo much more to it), is subverting expectations, not being what they seem or meaning what they say on the surface, toeing the line and pushing the boundaries on what's funny vs what's devastating or narratively compelling, sound or resonant. They built up this show on comedy, and it will always be a comedy, that's true, but it's also a million other things that are brewing and always have been brewing beneath the surface, ready to boil over. Laughs are cheap... I'm going for gasps...

Not to mention, they've been known to toy with fans before and keep their cards close to their chest. So I really don't put much weight on it because in spite of everything, I trust the show, I trust the structure, and this feels... different. Sunny feels different. And with season 16, they were definitely course correcting back into the right direction with everything, so yeah.
