Cricketer Jasprit Bumrah gets married to Sanjana Ganesan
Tumblr media
India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah allegedly tied the knot with the famous sports presenter Sanjana Ganesan over the weekend.
The marriage took place in Goa, and only their close friends and family members were in attendance. A maximum of 20 guests attended the private wedding ceremony in Goa. Bumrah’s colleagues could not participate in the wedding as all of them are in a bio-bubble for the ongoing T20I series against England in Ahmedabad.
According to reports, no one at the wedding function was allowed to carry their phones.
The newlywed took to their Instagram on Monday to share their wedding photos along with a message announcing their marriage to their fans. The first picture that the Indian Pacer shared was reminiscent of Virat Kohli-Anushka Sharma’s wedding photo, while the second photo was from their ‘phera ceremony.’
The 27-year-old wrote: “Love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course. Steered by Love, we have begun a new journey together. Today is one of the happiest days of our lives, and we feel blessed to be able to share the news of our wedding and our joy with you.”
Tumblr media
Bumrah was seen wearing a pink kurta while Sanjana wore a pink Lehenga on their special day. Both of them looked amazingly beautiful in their wedding attires. They make a lovely couple together.

However, speculation began on social media when the India pacer was released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in the middle of the test series against England for ‘personal reasons.
The India pacer is going to miss the remaining of the series between India and England and will return to action during IPL 2021 where defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) will be taking on Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the season opener at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on April 9.

CARL’S BLOG: ARKANSAS HILLBILLY
12-1-20, FUN AND HISTORY IN THE FOOTHILLS OF THE OZARKS
Living in the Ozark Mountains had its advantages. As kids,
we created our own entertainment. One type of entertainment
was going swimming and fishing in the Little Red River.
Each year after we returned to Higden from Benton Harbor, we
spent the rest of the summer helping Pa on the farm and playing.
We loved spending time at our favorite swimming hole on the
Little Red River.
One of our favorite things at the swimming hole was
swinging on a rope as high as we could and then dropping off
into the deep water. Someone on the bank of the river would
push the person on the rope until he reached his desired height,
and then he dropped into the river. Some of us were brave
enough to turn flips in the air before we landed in the water.
Another pastime was looking for Indian arrowheads. Over
the years, we found many. Later in life, I learned that the
Cherokee Indians once lived in that very same location, not far
from where Pa raised corn. We kids played hide and seek on a
ridge that consisted of several small caves. Although the
caves were good hiding places, being inside them was a little
scary. We found several animal droppings, which Pa said were
from bears. All the time we were growing up and playing in
the caves, I never spotted a single bear. I now believe Pa was
just trying to scare us. When I grew older, I learned that the
droppings were from deer.
Right above the bluff area near the river was another forty
acres my family owned. Thirty acres of this property were used
for raising hay and provided a pasture for the farm animals as
well. That same thirty acres included a big hog pen, a big barn,
and a big garden.
A creek ran through the forty acres and was fed by an all-weather
spring that never went dry. The spring emptied water
into a big water hole, we called the Blue Hole, which was about
the size of a large swimming pool. We kids learned to swim
in the Blue Hole. In the summer, several of our friends would
come to visit us, and we would take them to the Blue Hole to swim.
We did not own bathing suits, so we skinny-dipped.
The spring that fed water into the Blue Hole was our main
source of refrigeration. We kept our milk and milk products in
the spring to keep them from spoiling.
As a young boy, I became interested in knowing more
about my ancestors. Pa never talked much about his family.
Since he was forty-five years old when I was born, I did not feel
comfortable asking him about his life growing up and before he
met Ma.
At the time I became interested in knowing more about Pa,
my second-oldest brother, Chester, was living near us. He was
married to Letha Smith, and they had a daughter, Johnnie Sue,
and a son, Ronnie.
I felt relaxed around Chester and decided I would ask him some
questions about Pa and Ma. Chester and my oldest brother,
Harvey, these two being the oldest in the family, knew Pa better
than any of the rest of us.
My first question to Chester was, “Chester, do you know
where Pa was born?”
“Yes, I do. He was born in Orrick, Missouri, which is
located in Ray County, but later moved with his family to Bates
City, Missouri. He was eighteen years old when he and my
grandparents came to Higden from Bates City.”
“Why didn’t I know that?”
“Well, if Pa wanted you to know he probably would
have told you.”
“I don’t know, Chester. Pa and I don’t talk much.”
“I guess since Harvey and I worked side by side with him
as kids, he talked to us more. Do not feel bad, Carl, I wanted to
know the same thing about Pa. If I had not asked, I do not think
he’d have told me either.”
“What else can you tell me?”
“Well, I know he was the oldest in his family. I believe he
had an older brother named Willie who died from a fall from
his horse. He’s buried in the Concord Cemetery in Bates City.”
“How did Pa and our grandparents get to Higden?”
“Pa said they came in two big, covered wagons. He drove
one team of mules and Grandfather drove the other.”
“What was Grandfather like?”
“He was a little man who liked his whiskey. According to
Ma, he’d get drunk and stay out all night.”
“Do you know why Pa and our grandparents came to
Higden?”
“According to Pa, his aunt, Sarah Barger Thompson, sister
to Grandpa, was already here and offered to sell Grandpa some
of her land.”
“Is that where Grandma Elizabeth Barger lives today?”
“Yes, it is. As a boy, Harvey and I spent lots of hours playing
on Little Sugar Loaf Mountain. Their farm was at the base of
the Sugar Loaf.”
“Can you tell me anything else about Pa?”
“I’m going to tell you one other thing about Pa, but you must
promise me you will not ever tell anyone. Will you promise me?”
“I promise,” I said.
“After coming to Higden, Pa married a lady who lived in
the Stark community. I am not going to mention her name, but I
will tell you what happened. According to Pa, she was lazy and
would not cook or do anything that a wife should do. Pa said all
she wanted to do was sleep.
“Pa decided he would teach her a lesson. One cold morning
he got up, went, and got a bucket of cold water, and dumped it
on her while she was asleep in bed. She moved out of the house,
and Pa got a divorce. He later married Ma.”
“Why didn’t I know this?”
“Carl, there are some things that are better not mentioned,
especially the story I just told you. We were always grateful Pa
and his first wife didn’t have any kids.”
From that day forward if I wanted to know something about
my family’s genealogy, I would go and ask Chester.

About this photo, he writes, “That was the year when we cleaned 900 pieces of poultry — I smelled like a turkey for weeks after :-(”
He says that “The bearded wonder in the center of the photo Quiet Waters Farm is yours truly 1974 I believe :)”
Robert remembers that “this is when ‘butchers’ was ‘real’ butchers 🙂 that Christmas we did over a 1000 birds which included a few ducks, geese, roasting chickens (6lb’ers) as well as a few (true) capons 9/10 lbs) — Largest turkey, if I remember right, was 55 lbs and the smallest was around 7/8 lbs — two of us cleaned the whole lot in about 12 hours”
“My third job in Vancouver British Columbia — My first lasted six weeks as I did not do the right handshake — another story for over a pint — Second lasted about six months as they were pulling the building down, so went down the street and joined this lot — ended up running the place for the owners :)”
How I love these stories!
Laurence Green’s references to Cape food.
From his work HARBOURS OF MEMORY (1969), published by Howard Timmins, Green makes the following references to meat and food recipes.  Many of his best stories he got in bars, drinking with old folks and from magazines and old pamphlets he collected from flea markets.  He was a journalist and an author and I think, if I recall correctly, at one point wrote for the Cape Argus or Cape Times.  His word pictures are priceless.  Here are a few nuggets.
The secret curry powder
From The Road to the Harbour he writes, “Hungry seamen paid sixpence for pea soup or fish, a shilling for roast beef or steak. Many generous hosts provided bread, cheese, and pickles free of charge. A favourite meal in many harbour taverns consisted of a plate of mulligatawny soup followed by sosaties and rice, curried fragments of mutton on bamboo skewers. This cost one shilling and sixpence, including a glass of wine.”
Curries of various sorts were favourite everyday meals in the seafaring quarter. If you passed down Waterkant or Bree Street between certain hours there were such pungent aromas of chilies and garlic, mustard oil and onions, that you might have been in Calcutta. Jacob Watermeyer, a Strand Street ship chandler, was the far-sighted businessman who transformed the curry and rice dishes of Cape Town. This remarkable episode brought him and his assistant a fortune. The master of a British sailing ship owed Watermeyer money for stores and he departed without paying the bill. Next time he called, however, the honest captain entered Watermeyer’s shop and announced: “I still can’t pay, but if you care to come down on board my ship I will show you something valuable.” Watermeyer and his assistant lunched in the saloon and were given the finest curry they had ever tasted. After lunch, the captain handed them a list of ingredients and showed them how to mix the curry powder which had made the lunch memorable. I do not pretend to know the exact amount of turmeric, ginger, chilies and other spices that went into the powder; it was a secret recipe. No one could say that it was dominated by this or that condiment. It was a true blend, and compared with the other curry powders of the period it seemed to have an almost magical effect on soups, pumpkin, beans, crawfish or snoek, eggs, chicken and meats. The captain revealed to Watermeyer the whole secret process and gave him a sealed barrel of the curry powder. Watermeyer canceled the debt, three hundred pounds, a substantial amount to write off in those golden days. He put the curry powder on the market in tins and Cape Town flocked to his store to buy more. Here was a powder with just the right bite. It gave a rich, almost mysterious stimulating quality to a thick stew. People glowed and perspired and declared that Watermeyer’s curry powder made them feel cool in the heat of summer. The assistant married Watermeyer’s daughter and inherited the secret. He built a store in Adderley Street far more ornate than the little ship chandler’s shop down on the waterfront. The store has gone but the curry powder survives and is still mixed just as that forgotten sea captain showed Jacob Watermeyer in the Indiaman’s saloon more than a century ago.
Few old people record their memories and I was lucky to hear the curry saga before the origin was lost. When an interesting person dies a whole page of the past is torn away. I am grateful to those who spoke to me and left their most vivid impressions
Picture from the Shambles – leopards and sand sharks
Leopards were still visiting the shambles at the foot of Adderley Street in search of offal when Hinton was a boy. Wharf Square, outside the old mainline railway station, was close to the wharf. The slaughterhouse, built long before the station, supplied meat to troops bound for India before the Suez Canal was built. Shortly after World War II an aged coloured man showed officials the door in this building where he had stood shovelling refuse into Table Bay. So many sand sharks gathered for the feast. that they called the place Haaibaai. Now the shambles has been demolished and the nearest sea is more than twelve hundred yards from Wharf Square.
Polony, existed from at least 1900’s with much older roots
“Butchers prepared fine mutton hams and polonies and these kept fresh in any climate. The polonies were a foot long, one inch in diameter, made of pork and other meats and fat with various spices; they were bound in bundles of twenty-four and sewn up in airtight bladders.”
See my article I did based on Greens description, The Origins of Polony.
Pigs in blankets were served as oysters, wrapped in bacon
About chef Luigi, he tells the following.  “So he served “pigs in blankets” (oysters wrapped in bacon and fried) or oysters au gratin, sole and oyster pie, oysters sweated in butter and served on hot fried bread, oyster soufflees, oysters with spinach, grilled oysters and fried oysters chopped and mixed with scrambled eggs.”
From Australia
The country of Australia holds some of the most iconic meat history.
Tim Westwood made me aware of this remarkable video.

Meat Hangers
Kevin Ahern took these pictures of Petroglyphs National Monuments in Albuquerque, NM, dating to between 800 and 1200 BP with the oldest dating to 2000 BCE.  He tells me that the images depict the Yucca bud.
“The uses of this plant are numerous, the least of which today being for textile use. The strikingly tall inflorescence stalks have long fibres in them that can be spun to make (incredibly uncomfortable) clothing, textiles, or rope. Yucca flowers are also edible, and are a deep-fried delicacy in some southern states in the US. Some species of the genus also have edible fruits, but this species isn’t one of them since the fruit walls are made up of very tough plant tissue.  (botanicalmusings)
The leaves of this plant (Yucca filamentosa; Adams needle) are also sometimes referred to as “meat hangers” since they are so tough they can pierce meat and can be knotted together to make a ring that can be hung on a tree branch to dry-cured meat.”  (botanicalmusings)
The reference to the hanging of meat for curing seems to originate from Small (1933) who recorded that “leaves of all southern species were used by pioneers to make rope and string for hanging up cured meats.”  Daniel F. Austin says that he found fishermen in the early 1970s on Great Inagua near the Bahamas still using cord made from Yucca to hang their bonefish to dry.  (Austin, 2004)
Yucca to the native tribe, Alabama was called tosiina istatakka (tosiina, from Spanish tocino for Bacon, ist-, it is, atakkaaka, hanging).  The name is derived from their use of the sharp point on the leaf and its fibers to hang meat for smoking (Sylestine, et al, 1993) (Austin, 2004)

The Acting Students / 'Keystone Cops' are played by:
Jack Perkins was a stuntman and actor often cast for his ability to play drunk. He also has quite a few credits as a brawler and a bartender. He will appear in one more episode of “The Lucy Show.”
Fred Krone was a stuntman and actor.  He was a lifetime member of the Stuntman's Association of Motion Pictures.
Harvey Parry was a stuntman and actor who appeared with Lucille Ball in two films in the 1930s.  He will do one more episode of “The Lucy Show.”
Sid Gould made more than 45 appearances on “The Lucy Show,” all as background characters. He also did 40 episodes of “Here’s Lucy.” Gould (born Sydney Greenfader) was Lucille Ball’s cousin by marriage to Gary Morton. Gould was married to Vanda Barra, who also appeared on “The Lucy Show” starting in 1967, as well as on “Here’s Lucy.”
Tumblr media
Three other female extras round out the acting class.  A dog appears in the silent movie sketch.
Tumblr media
This is the first and only episode written by Hugh Wedlock Jr. and Alan Manings.
Tumblr media
The school Mickey Rooney wants to open is called The Players Showcase.
Tumblr media
At the start of the episode, Mr. Mooney is asking Lucy for the Nicoletti file. Louis Nicoletti played bit parts on 20 episodes of “I Love Lucy.”  His name was given to the Florence hotel manager in “Lucy is Homesick in Italy” (ILL S5;E22).
To extend the loan to Rooney, Mr. Mooney goes to check with Bank President Mr. Cheever.  The character will not be seen for another year and will be played by Roy Roberts.
Tumblr media
Lucy: “Mickey Rooney the actor?”   Mr. Mooney: “No, Mickey Rooney the plumber!”
In “Lucy and the Plumber” (S3;E2) the plumber looked just like an actor – Jack Benny.
When Lucy's lipstick smears across her cheek due to a sudden shock, Mr. Mooney says “You look like Geronimo!” Geronimo (1829-1909) was a prominent Native American warrior from the Apache tribe who led rebellions to protect his homeland.  Mr. Mooney is referring to the 'Indian' war paint.
Mickey Rooney mentions his alimony payments.  At the time this episode was filmed in late 1965, Rooney had been divorced four times. His fifth wife died just one week after this episode first aired. He re-married in September 1966 and would marry twice more before his death.
Tumblr media
Mr. Mooney says to Lucy: “What in the name of Bette Davis makes you think you can act?” Bette Davis (1908-89) was a two-time Oscar winner who was nominated nine other times. She was slated to appear as “The Celebrity Next Door” on the “Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour” but withdrew at the last minute and was replaced by Tallulah Bankhead.
Lucy lists her school acting credits: Mr. Roberts (in a 1948 play of the same name), MacBeth (in Shakespeare's tragedy of the same name), Julius Caesar, and Captain Hook in Peter Pan. Apparently Lucy must have gone to an all-girls school since these are all male roles!  She fails to mention her experience playing Cleopatra for the Danfield Community Players (S2;E1).
Tumblr media
Praising Mickey Rooney, Lucy tells him “Those father and son talks with Judge Hardy helped a lot.” Lucy is referring to Rooney's portrayal of Andy Hardy in 16 films between 1937 and 1958. Lewis Stone (above left) played Andy's Judge father in all but one. In the first film the father was played by Lionel Barrymore.
While playing drunk during an improv, Rooney says to Lucy “What's new pussycat?”  The expression was also the title of a 1965 film written by Woody Allen as well as its title song nominated for an Oscar in 1966.
Tumblr media
In Rooney's acting class, Mr. Mooney rehearses Mark Antony's famous speech from Shakespeare's Julius Caesar: “Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears.”  Vivian Vance played Mark Antony to Lucy's Cleopatra back in Danfield.
Tumblr media
The underscoring to portions of the silent movie sketch is “Hello, Ma Baby,'” a song written by Ida Emerson and Joseph E. Howard in 1899. It is probably most associated with the singing and dancing frog in the 1955 Merrie Melodies cartoon short “One Froggy Evening.”
Callbacks!
Tumblr media
The Charlie Chaplin silent movie skit Lucy does with Mooney and Rooney is reminiscent of the one she did with Vivian Vance in “Chris's New Year's Eve Party" (S1;E14).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
An improv class gives Lucille Ball a chance to do her chicken imitation. She first walked like a chicken as Lucy Ricardo to lead 500 baby chicks back into their boxes in “Lucy Raises Chickens” (ILL S6;E19).
Blooper Alerts
Cuts! There are obvious edits in the office scene, perhaps for time.
Tumblr media
Hays Press! When Lucy is nailing up the Theatre Guide poster on the studio wall, one of the ads has the word 'Palace' in the same font found in the newspaper in “Lucy, the Rain Goddess” (S4;E15) and “Ricky’s Old Girlfriend” (ILL S3;E12) in 1953!  Most Hollywood prop newspapers were printed by the same company: the Hays Press.
Tumblr media
Speilling! The sign above the silent movie sketch grocery store say “Market Low Prices on Meat's” - with a possessive apostrophe.
Tumblr media
“Lucy Meets Mickey Rooney” rates 4 Paper Hearts out of 5

Ages ago I had this idea of Nursey’s sister and one of Ransom’s sisters meeting at NurseyDex’s wedding and I don’t have time to write it today but as it’s the WOC day of @omgcpwomenfest and I’ve been too busy to do anything else so far this week for it, I’m just going to write out some headcanons about it.
Okay so first up about Leila Nurse (some of you met her in this fic):
Nursey’s sister, 5 years older than him.
She also went to Andover, but because of being older wasn’t there at the same time as Nursey. She did know Shitty, however, and told him to ‘look the fuck out for my little brother when he gets here because he’s a walking disaster and doesn’t take proper care of himself’.
She’s works for a corporation in Detroit, MI
Their mom is trans, Black and Muslim, has origins in Somalia (and, further back, West Africa). Leila (like Derek) identifies heavily with the Black and Muslim communities in the US.
Their ma is Gujarati Hindu and immigrated to the States as a teenager. Their first cousins all live in the US as well, and though they don’t generally ID with the Indian and Hindu communities as much as they do the Black Muslim ones, they are more used to traditional Indian customs than they are Somali ones. They speak a lot of Gujarati with family, and it just made sense for Derek to want a lot of Indian influence in his wedding, even if it wasn’t going to be a religious ceremony in the end.
Leila is Nursey’s best woman. He doesn’t remember asking her, or deciding that himself. But she is.
She wears a green and gold bandhani saree
She and her cousins are in charge of the henna.
Honestly all these women chatting away loudly in Gujarati except for when they switch to English to shout at one of the dumb hockey players about to start doing something that would mess up his henna.
They teach Lardo how to do it as well, but they have to take it off her before she wastes loads of it giving Shitty a whole leg of tattoos (Leila’s like Dex barely let me do any on him don’t give the other white guys more.)
About Ife Oluransi:
Ransom’s sister, a year and a half older than him (they also have a younger sister, Dami)
She’s an optometrist in Windsor, ON
She didn’t mean to end up at this wedding she wasn’t invited to.
She just mentioned to her brother that she was going to be in MA that week so could she stay with him and he said yes and didn’t think anything else of it until she texted to confirm things a couple of weeks before, at which point he was like oh yeah I’m going to be in a wedding on the Saturday, I can’t miss it, I’m in the wedding party, but it’s all cool you can come too, they won’t mind.
When he says that, she has to go hunting through her wardrobe and pull out the only vaguely wedding-appropriate blue trouser suit she has in her apartment, because actually a lot of her nicer clothes are still at her parents’ house, or she got rid of them.
So here she is at this wedding where the only two people she knows are both really busy. (Well and she knows who the guy taking all the photos is. She’s Canadian; even if her brother hadn’t been to school with him for three years she’d recognise Jack Zimmermann. That doesn’t mean she can go and just start chatting to him)
Not only that but she’s ended up going to this pre-wedding henna party the day before, where there’s only about 20 people, despite not knowing the people getting married.
She doesn’t even work out who’s getting married for a while
So they’re sat around doing the mehndi ceremony and she assumes one of the women yelling at everyone must be the bride. She knows that the groom must be one of Justin’s hockey friends, but which one, it’s really hard to tell because all of them are getting really into the henna (except the red-headed one. he just looks a bit like he’s going to pass out. it’s probably not him getting married)
The women she had decided was most likely to be the bride, judging by the extravagant saree she’s wearing, and the number of bangles up her arm, gets to her, armed with the henna cone, and Ife says ‘oh I don’t even know what I’m doing here, I don’t know if that’s necessary’. The other woman just smiles and says ‘please, everyone’s welcome. at least at little one?’ She says her name’s Leila, and then she says Derek’s her little brother, and Ife works out that he’s one of the hockey players, so she guesses that Leila thinks Ife knows the hockey players a bit better than she really does, beyond Justin and Adam, and now she’s thinking Leila must have met her groom through her brother.
Ife starts thanking her for making her welcome, and Leila just shakes her head, says something about the more the merrier and then says ‘my ma would tell you to stop being silly and enjoy the party, except right now she’s freaking out about how her baby’s getting married.’
They chat a little bit while Leila’s putting the henna on Ife’s hands, and Ife explains that she only knows Justin and Adam, but that they’re acting as parents to the groom. Leila makes a joke that she hopes it’s the other groom. Ife is really confused, and when Leila sees her expression, she’s like ‘...Has anyone pointed out to you who’s getting married?’
So that’s when Ife discovers it’s actually Leila’s brother, not her, and that he is in fact marrying the red-head. Which is starting to make sense because Justin and Adam have sat with him in the middle of the two of them and are talking to him in tones that she suspects were meant to be calming, so he must just be really nervous.
The Reception:
They meet up again after the wedding. All the official toasts and dances etc. have happened now and there’s a DJ playing a really strange mix of music genres when Leila seeks Ife out.
Ife was just sat at a table drinking a bunch of champagne because she should have realised that Justin would be off messing about on the dancefloor with his friends and would forget about her, and maybe she should have just said she would chill back at his and watch TV. It was a really nice ceremony, it just feels weird now that she’s there.
So then Leila comes up and starts talking to her again, and asks if she wants to dance and Ife stares at her and says ‘don’t you have family and friends and other people you want to spend time with?’
Leila shrugs. ‘i see that lot all the time, and it’s not as many people as you’d think. I didn’t even bring a plus one because I didn’t know who to bring.’
Ife is really surprised about this, but Leila explains that she was engaged for a bit a couple of years ago and even though it didn’t end badly, she stayed in a bit of a weird place for a while and threw herself into work, and she’s only really thought about dating again in the past couple of months.
So they dance and they’re having a pretty good time, and then they realize that they actually don’t live that far from each other so both of them start thinking that maybe a drunken hookup isn’t all this has to be.
In the end it’s actually Justin who wants to go home before Ife, but she exchanges numbers with Leila and they agree to meet up when they’re both just opposite sides of the Detroit River.

1. YouTube star PewDiePie has found his sweetie pie. The controversial influencer, known for his widely watched gaming videos and crass humor, married long-time girlfriend and fellow social media star Marzia Bisognin in a London ceremony on Monday — in what could be considered the royal wedding of YouTube.
“We are married!!! I’m the happiest I can be. I’m so lucky to share my life with this amazing woman,” the 29-year-old Swedish vlogger, whose real name is Felix Kjellberg, wrote Tuesday on Instagram. The Italian influencer, 26, also posted tons of shots from the big day to her 6.2 million Instagram followers, revealing that their wedding marked the eighth anniversary of the day they met.
PewDiePie proposed in April 2018 while vacationing in Japan. At the wedding, PewDiePie wore an all-black suit while Bisognin, who has a following in fashion, wore an off-white long-sleeve dress featuring a lace bodice and tulle ballgown with a peplum.
PewDiePie is one of the world’s highest-paid YouTube stars, earning an estimated $14.5 million a year, but has come under fire for posting several videos featuring anti-Semitic jokes or images related to Nazis in 2017. Despite being booted from YouTube’s Red platform, he still makes millions off the site, though he was bested as the most followed person on the platform after decades at the top spot earlier this year by an Indian music label. PewDiePie’s multi-channel network partner Maker Studios, a subsidiary of Disney, severed ties with him and the Google Preferred program also dropped him. Between them, the couple has 107 million YouTube subscribers, 24 million followers on Instagram and 22 million Twitter followers.
2. A business owner in California says she has been forced to relocate after 15 years because of the growing homelessness crisis in the state. Elizabeth Novak, who owns a hair salon in downtown Sacramento, posted a video on Twitter on Friday describing how she often finds people camping in tents across her front door. She told how the vagrancy epidemic gripping the state is affecting long-standing business owners and that her shop has been broken into and she has even been attacked. Novak, who has run her salon for 15 years, said in her social media message that she often has to clean-up urine, feces and used needles left by rough sleepers on her doorstep.
Addressing her concerns directly to Governor Gavin Newsom, she said in a heart-felt pleas for action: 'I want to know what are you going to do for us Californians? I've had a business in downtown Sacramento for 15 years - a successful business. I now have to leave my place of business, I have to close my shop.
'I just want to tell you what happens when I get to work. I have to clean up the poop and the pee off of my doorstep. I have to clean-up the syringes.
'I have to politely ask the people who I care for, I care for these people that are homeless, to move their tents of of the way of the door to my business.
'I have to fight off people who push their way into my shop who are homeless and on drugs because you won't arrest them for drug offenses. I have to apologize to my clients as to why they can't get into my door because there's someone asleep there and they are not getting the help they need.'
At the beginning of the impassioned clip Novak says has been repeatedly sending videos, emails and tweets as well as numerous calls to Newsom in a bid to get a response.
Novak also slammed the Democrat governor's 'liberal ideology' as 'not working' and criticized him for 'sitting in his million dollar home and not having to look at what we have to look at'.
She added in the video: 'I talk to the police officers, they told me to contact you [Newsom]. They want to do something and they can't, you changed the laws.
'So I want to know what you're going to do for us, the ones that are unhappy? You want to make us a sanctuary state, you want to make it comfortable for everybody except for the people that work hard and have tried their hardest to get along in life and now we have to change that because of your laws.'
Novak's Twitter account is now private, but it was viewed around 25,000 times.
Yesterday Novak told Fox & Friends that she was going to have to relocate her business because of how bad the situation had become.
'A lot of people asked why go directly to the governor, why take it to that level and I think it's an SOS for all small business owners. And not just business owners, but employees in the downtown area.
'When I come into work I'm never sure what I'm going to walk into. I've been broken into, I've had my glass broken. I clean up human excrement off of my doorstep every week, cups of urine, things like that.'
She added: 'A lot of people are saying it's a housing issue - it's a drug issue.'
3. Colton Haynes is looking back in an effort to help others move forward. The 31-year-old actor, who has been candid about his battles with depression and substance abuse, shared a series of images Monday from his hospitalization a year ago, in an effort to help others relate and recover.
'I get immense joy when someone comes up to me & says that my willingness to open up about depression, anxiety, alcoholism, & addiction has helped them in some way,' said Haynes. 'I’m posting these photos to let y’all in on my truth. I’m so grateful to be where I am now ... but man these times were dark. I’m a human being with flaws just like you. If ur in the middle of the dark times...I promise you it doesn’t have to last forever.'
Haynes told Attitude magazine in March that the hospitalization came after a week of heavy boozing while locked in a room at the Beverly Hills Waldorf Astoria. He said when he 'was found' he was heavily bruised, unable to walk, had multiple seizures, lost partial vision temporarily and 'ended up in 5150 psyche hold.'In a series of five images in his post Monday, the Teen Wolf actor was seen in a hospital bed fitted with heart monitors. In other selfies Haynes shared from the time frame, he stared into the camera while in a plane and at a residence.
Haynes made it clear he was concerned with keeping it real on the social media site, as he said he 'no longer [wants] to project a curated life.
'Worrying about what time to post on social media so I can maximize my likes or being mad at myself that I don’t look the same way I did when I was addicted to pills is a complete waste of why I was put on this earth,' he said. 'I don’t want worrying about if I look hot or not on Instagram to be my legacy.'
He continued: 'I don’t want to skirt around the truth to please other people or to gain economic success. I have far more important things to say than what magazine I just shot for or what tv show I’m a part of (Although I’m very thankful I still get to do what I love).'
The Andale, Kansas native told Attitude that he'd entered rehab for four months last year, and had six months sobriety under his belt at the time.
'I got so heavily involved with drugs and alcohol to mask the amount of pain I was feeling that I couldn't even make some decisions for myself,' he said. 'I was drowning in my own s***.'
Haynes told the publication that his 'downward spiral' into drug abuse began three years ago, and was complicated by a series of major life events that transpired in the time frame. The actor married Kardashian family florist Jeff Leatham in October of 2017 only to split less than a year later, and his mother Dana Haynes died in March of 2018.
4. Jada Pinkett Smith opened up about her life, marriage and her new Facebook Watch series Red Table Talk in a new interview. The 47 year old actress revealed in a new interview with The Guardian that she knew she wasn't going to be a traditional wife when she married Will Smith. She also spoke about her new Facebook Watch series was inspired by talks with three friends, Salma Hayek, Pauletta Washington (Denzel Washington's wife) and Ruby Dee.
'I knew that I was not built for conventional marriage,' the actress began. 'Even the word 'wife': it's a golden cage, swallow the key.'
'Even before I was married, I was like, "That'll kill me." And it damn near did! So why wouldn't you share what you've been through, when you see that other people are out there, trying to figure this crap out?'
'We decided to make it public because it's part of the healing. I feel like if we don't have real understanding about it, I don't know if interpersonal relationships are possible,' she continued.
She clarified that she loves her husband, her 'life partner,' adding she could not have asked for a better one.
'But I can assure you that some of the most powerful women in the world feel caged and tied, because of the sacrifices they have to make to be in that position, she said.
'So I wanted to talk about how we really feel about marriage. How do we really feel about different, unconventional relationships? How do we really feel about raising children? Honestly,' she said, which lead to Red Table Talk being born.
Smith launched her series Red Table Talk in May 2018 on the Facebook Watch streaming platform, and there was quickly an order for additional episodes.
The second season premiered in May 2019, which reportedly is comprised of 20 episodes, featuring Jada and her mother Adrienne sitting around the table with various guests.
Pinkett Smith added that she did pitch Red Table Talk to conventional TV networks and streaming services, but revealed she went with Facebook because they offered the most flexibility.
'The others all wanted to add a dancing bear to it. So many dancing bears, when I just wanted us sitting around a table,' Smith began.
'And the other reason I couldn’t go to mainstream TV is that Willow is not built for that kind of conventional set-up. She can’t be there every episode – she’s a little butterfly,' she said.
'Something comes up and she says, "Ma I got to go to the mountains for a week," and I got to let her go. That’s part of her mental health, she needs freedom. You’ve just got to let her fly.'
5. 90 Day Fiance star Ashley Martson has officially moved on from troublesome Jay Smith with Christian Estrada. Christian is currently on Bachelor in Paradise but his search for love must not have completed since he went on a date with Ashley. Over the weekend, the two went to the most magical place on earth, Disney World, for a super fun date. Will there be more dates in the future for this cross-over reality television couple?
Before he started dating 90 Day Fiance’s Ashley Martson, Christian Estrada was searching for love on this season of Bachelor in Paradise. This week on the show, Christian and Jordan Kimball get into a huge fight, seemingly over Nicole Lopez-Alvar. The fight quickly turns physical when Jordan actually picks up Christian and throws him to the ground. Watch Bachelor in Paradise Monday and Tuesday at 8 on ABC to see their fight play out.
Most 90 Day Fiance fans were relieved when Ashley Martson kicked Jay Smith to the curb. He had been unfaithful to her and was seeing another woman behind her back. But it wasn’t the first time Jay Smith had been caught cheating on her. His bad behavior was going on three days after he and Ashley got married.
Ashley caught him using a dating app of all things. It was hard for her to give up on their relationship, but Jay pushed her to the edge and she filed for divorce in April 2019. Although she had previously filed in January and withdrew it, this time was for real. Jay Smith was even bailed out of jail by another girl, Kayla Ann O’Brien, that started a GoFundMe to raise the money. Jay and Kayla are rumored to be separated because Jay cheated on her.

What should insurance depreciate previous damage to a car after accident?
My car was rear ended while parked in front of my house and insurance has declared it a total loss. We have been going back and forth on the value of the car and have finally gotten them to a value that we agree with but we disagree with how much they are taking off for previous damage to the car. There was a dent to the left fender and a scrape on the right back door, Farmers is saying it would cost $1100 to repair which is close to some of the estimates I have gotten from body shops. But they are not depreciating that value down for a used car. We were going through Safeco as well and they were taking 40% of the cost to make those repairs and deducting it from the value. Does anyone know what is standard practice for deducting previous damage to a value of a car? Thanks for your help!""
Proof of insurance question?
The transmission went out of my car. A friend who does auto repair told me it would cost approx $1200 to fix. So I decided to scrap the car & get another. I cancelled insurance on old one & bought another 1 1/2 months later. The car was not driveable. Now I have to prove why I didn't have ins on the car and still had plates registered to it. I called & wrote a letter to the state and they said to send an estimate from an ASE cert. mechanic or tow bill or pictures. I don't have a tow bill. I didn't get out of the driveway. I don't need an ASE mechanic to tell me what is wrong w/the car and picutres of a transmission are stupid. I have received a written est from the guy and have statements from neighbors saying the car was not running. What more can I do?????? I don't want my license suspended.
What would you say is a cheap and decent car to purchase and insure? (Please see details)?

I'd purely be a named driver. I did look at the Citreon C3 pluriel, because I was told it was really cheap to insure, but having to pull the sides off the car to make it into a convertible is a bit of a joke! How much would insurance cost on a 2015 Mustang 4-cylinder ecoboost?
Just wondering if anyone has an idea on how much insurance will cost. The insurance for the V6 model I know will be somewhere around $400-$500 a month which is obviously too much for me. I plan on putting a 3k down payment for the Mustang and finance for possibly 4-5years. I also plan on selling my current car for a little over 2.2k. I believe this will only be possible for me to do if the insurance is around $300 a month. The Ecoboost mustang is a 4 cylinder 2 door muscle car but with a turbo engine putting about 305HP. It gets more mpg than the V6 but is faster than the V6. Thank you for any answers and I know for now nothing is 100% true until I actually get a quote. Oh I also live in the LA County area as I know this will sadly most likely increase the insurance cost by 40%.

I could use the $1700, however, I've come away clean thus far and am reluctant to bring this to my insurance company's attention if I don't have to, though it may be just a matter of time before the insurance company learns of the accident anyway. I have moved to a different state and have a different drivers license and plan on discontinuing my insurance at the end of the month when the policy runs out.""

Stagecoach (1939) starring John Wayne, Claire Trevor and Thomas Mitchell
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Now, folks, if we push on, we can be in Apache Wells by sundown. . . .  Then it’s only a hoot and a holler into Lordsburg.  We got four men who can handle firearms—five with you, Ringo.  Doc can shoot if sober.” — Marshal Curly Wilcox
Like a number of other films in Hollywood’s greatest year, 1939, Stagecoach has a number of distinctions that makes it one of the great American films—of America and in the spirit of Americana, drawing upon folklore and becoming, itself, a part of movie folklore.  While forever regarded as a “B” Western, mainly because of its low budget, it’s a label deemed unfair by many.  It’s much more than a “B” Western.
Stagecoach is director John Ford’s first sound Western, since at least two silent films, The Iron Horse (1924) and 3 Bad Men (1926), are of some distinction.  One of his greatest Westerns, period, Stagecoachis the first of seven he would film in Monument Valley.  “My favorite location,” he said in a 1964 interview.  “I feel at peace there.  I have been all over the world, but I consider this the most complete, beautiful and peaceful place on earth.”  Cheyenne Autumn (1964) would be his last Western, and the last filmed in the Valley.
Tumblr media
This area of the eastern Utah-Arizona border became Ford’s trademark, and for a while respected as his personal property until other directors began borrowing the landscape.  The backdrop of Stagecoach’s main title is, in fact, Monument Valley, behind alternate views of Indian horsemen and the U.S. Cavalry on the move.  Then, the credits concluded, the evocative prehistoric stillness is broken by two men on horseback moving, though distantly, toward Bert Glennon’s camera.  Glennon shot a variety of Ford movies, including The Prisoner of Shark Island (1936), The Hurricane (1937) and Rio Grande (1950).  The stagecoach will traverse the Valley at least three times during the film.
In Stagecoach, Ford delineates the dangers for a group of disparate, and often desperate, passengers in a cross-country trip by stage.  For the Mormons in Wagon Master (1950), the means of transportation is covered wagons as they encounter stranded travelers, a lovely damsel, the expected bad guys and, of course, Indians.  Men move about mainly on horses in The Searchers (1956), both the isolated settlers and a lone horseman from the past who comes calling at a small prairie dwelling.
Tumblr media
The West Ford portrays in these last three films had largely faded by 1962’s The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, where the critical means of transportation, the railroad, symbolizes both the civilizing of the frontier and the annihilation of the West as folklore.  The film represents a darkening of the director’s view of his beloved West, and, mostly set-bound, Liberty is the only one of these four films not shot, partly or entirely, in Monument Valley.
The mention of John Ford implies, for all time it seems, John Wayne.  After seeing Wayne in Howard Hawks’ Red River (1948), Ford said, “I never knew the big son of a bitch could act.”  It was a typical “compliment” of the often cruel, sadistic director, and Wayne was, for him, a lifelong whipping boy.  Beyond the verbal abuse was a deeply embedded affection, and they made twenty-four films together, though, granted, not all are Westerns.  Wayne made a total of over eighty in the genre during his career, which began in 1926—not with a Western, however—and ended in 1976 with The Shootist, a Western which portrayed a West that, finally and irrevocably, had disappeared.
Tumblr media
After years of making down-in-the dust “B” Westerns for Monogram and Mascot Pictures, though sometimes appearing in minor roles in “A” movies, Wayne made Stagecoach at “only” thirty-two, launching his career.  Even in Stagecoach, he takes second billing to Claire Trevor, the highest paid star in a cast that includes Thomas Mitchell, Andy Devine, John Carradine, Tim Holt, Hank Worden and Jack Pennick.  Most would become part of Ford’s stock company of favorite supporting players.
Stagecoach is an early version of The High and the Mighty (1954), Airport (1970), The Poseidon Adventure (1972), Murder on the Orient Express (1974) and many other films where a cross-section of society endures, and usually survives, possible peril on a long journey.  Or, in the likes of Grand Hotel(1932) and Separate Tables (1958), the location may be stationary, and while not necessarily implying physical danger, the equally confined occupants encounter their various phobias, anxieties and jealousies.
Tumblr media
In the 1880s, six individuals board a stage in Arizona Territory for Lordsburg in New Mexico Territory.  Although, even by that time, the characters were time-worn clichés, the actors are so perfectly cast and their performances so polished that all handicaps are overcome.  It helped that Ford often scripted his films knowing in advance who would play the parts and matched the actors with the characters accordingly.
The main title is typically Fordian, full of American folks songs.  The tunes are “Bury Me Not on the Lone Prairie” and “Jennie with the Light Brown Hair,” with alternating views of Apache (actually Navajo) horsemen and the U.S. Cavalry on the move—and Indian drum-like music.  These and other such tunes will support most of the score.
When stagecoach driver Buck (Devine) informs the town marshal, Curley Wilcox (George Bancroft), that the shotgun guard is off tracking down the Ringo Kid (Wayne), who has escaped prison and is searching for Luke Plummer (Tom Tyler), the murderer of his father and brother, Wilcox volunteers to ride shotgun.
Tumblr media
First of the passengers to board is a prostitute, Dallas (Trevor).  Being chased out of town by the ladies’ Law and Order League, she asks alcoholic physician Doc Boone (Mitchell) if the ladies can force her to leave.  Boone, who can’t pay his rent and has abandoned his office, says “We are the victims of a foul disease called social prejudice, my child.”
Arm in arm, they walk to the waiting stage, accompanied by one of John Ford’s favorite hymns, “Shall We Gather at the River?”  Usually rendered at his frequent movie funerals, it now appears in the soundtrack as a comic march, both a little risqué and slightly tipsy.
Also making the journey are whiskey salesman Samuel Peacock (Donald Meek) and a snobbish Easterner, the pregnant Lucy Mallory (Louise Platt), on the way to meet her military husband.
Tumblr media
At the last moment, a Southerner, Hatfield (Carradine), boards after what he interprets as an inviting smile from Lucy.  Later, when Boone refers to his medical service in the recent Civil War as the “War of the Rebellion,” Hatfield corrects him: it is the “War for the Southern Confederacy.”
A cavalry unit led by Lieutenant Blanchard (Holt) arrives with news that Geronimo and the Apaches are on the warpath and that they will escort the stage to Lordsburg.  “Bury Me Not on the Lone Prairie” is the leitmotiv for shots of the stage crossing the landscape.
At the edge of town, banker Ellseworth Gatewood (Berton Churchill) flags down the stage.  He has stolen $50,000 from his own bank.
Further along the trail—eighteen minutes into the film—the Ringo Kid greets the stage with a single rifle shot.  (Although the scene is obviously in brush country, possibly Chatsworth, Los Angeles, the first view of Wayne twirling his rifle—a rapid tracking shot, ending in a close-up—is filmed against a process screen of Monument Valley.)  Ringo’s horse has gone lame.  Marshal Wilcox arrests him and asks for his rifle.  “You may need me and this Winchester,” Ringo says.  “Saw a ranch burin’ last night.”  He surrenders his rifle and sits on the floor of the already full coach.
Tumblr media
At a stopover at Dry Fork, Mrs. Mallory resents eating with a prostitute, but Ringo sits beside Dallas.  Mrs. Mallory, Hatfield and Gatewood move to the other end of the table.  En route to Apache Wells, Mrs. Mallory further snubs Dallas’ concern for her health.  Hatfield offers her some water, but instead of giving her the canteen Wilcox passes down from the driver’s seat, he fills his folding silver cup for her.  Yet when Dallas asks for water, Hatfield extends the canteen.  So much for this Southern “gentleman.”
At Apache Wells, Mrs. Mallory learns that her husband has been wounded in battle and taken to Lordsburg.  She faints, inducing labor, and through his drunken stupor, Doc Boone delivers a baby girl.  Ringo asks Dallas to marry him.  She doesn’t reply, but the next morning she accepts.  Not wishing to leave Mrs. Mallory and the baby, she tells Ringo she’ll stay and meet him later.
Ringo escapes, but when he sees smoke signals, he returns to warn the stage passengers, who re-board and, now without the escorting cavalry unit, reach Lee’s Ferry.  The Apaches have killed the station-keeper and his family.  After crossing a river and believing they are safe, the travelers are attacked by the Indians.  An arrow enters the coach and strikes Peacock.
Tumblr media
During the seven minutes as the Indians chase the coach, Buck is wounded and everyone soon runs out of ammunition.  Just as Hatfield is preparing to shoot Mrs. Mallory to spare her a ghastly death from the Indians, he is fatally shot.  At this moment the U.S. Sixth Cavalry arrives, and the stage continues on safely to Lordsburg.
The stagecoach chase would justify an exciting, fitting climax.  What could be better?  But John Ford must tie up the many loose ends in the remaining twenty minutes of film.  First, Mrs. Mallory learns her husband’s wounds are not serious and she thanks Dallas for taking care of her baby.  Peacock, who survived the arrow, invites everyone to his home in Kansas City.  Gatewood is arrested.  And Dallas, who hasn’t told Ringo about what she does for a living, leads him to her part of town.  He still wants to marry her.
But Ringo has one last thing to do.  Reminiscent of the central shootout in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance—both at night—Ringo walks down the street toward Luke Plummer and his two brothers (Vester Pegg and Joe Rickson).  Their slow, edgy strides are underpinned by some actual original music.  As Ringo drops to the ground to fire, the film cuts to Dallas and only shots are heard.  “Ringo!  Ringo!  Ringo!” she cries.  Ford temporarily misleads the audience and shows an apparent triumphant Luke entering the saloon, only to collapse dead on the floor.  Ringo has killed all three of the Plummers.
Tumblr media
Ringo, having given his word not to escape and expecting to end up in prison, returns to Wilcox.  Boone and Wilcox are waiting with a buckboard.  After Ringo has said good-bye to Dallas, the marshal suggests she might “like to ride a ways with the Kid.”  After Dallas climbs aboard, Boone and Wilcox throw rocks at the horses and shout, sending the two animals off at a gallop and giving Ringo his freedom and a presumed happy life with Dallas.
The signature trademark of Stagecoach is not the long coach chase by the Indians, however exciting and epoch-making it may be, but by its central stunt.  Yakima Canutt has two “performances” in the sequence.  In the more famous one, dressed as an Indian, he leaps from a running horse to the lead pair of animals in a six-horse team.  He is “shot” by Ringo, falls, grasps the harness and drags his feet between the two lead horses.  Ringo shoots again.  Canutt lets go of the harness and the horses and coach pass over him.
In his own words:
You have to run the horses fast (35- to 37 m.p.h.), so they’ll run straight.  If they run slow, they move around a lot.  When you turn loose to go under the coach, you’ve got to bring your arms over your chest and stomach.  You’ve got to hold your elbows close to your body, or that front axle will knock them off.
After the coach passes over him, he attempts to stand up, then falls and remains inert, to show a dummy hadn’t been used.  From the flat plain of Lucerne Dry Lake in the Mojave Desert, Canutt selected the hardest part, so that the coach wheels would sink as little as possible into the surface.
Tumblr media
Of course, there’s the obvious question few viewers of Stagecoach seem to ask, one that exposes an obvious inaccuracy: Why didn’t the Apaches simply shoot the horses?!  “If they did that,” Ford once replied, “the picture would be over.”
English theater critic and writer Kenneth Tynan asked Orson Welles in 1967 which directors he most admired.  “The old masters,” he famously replied.  “By which I mean John Ford, John Ford and John Ford.”  If not compliment enough, Welles showed his high esteem for Ford by, he said, viewing Stagecoach forty times before beginning Citizen Kane (1941).  Ford’s influence is clearly seen in many aspects of Welles’ film, including those “original” shots of ceilings.
