In light of Vampire Weekend releasing their 5th album tomorrow as of writing, I feel like reviewing their debut is fitting to better understand the band and boy do I understand them now!

'Mansard Roof' was definitely a good introduction to this band; It's short, poppy, and got me in the mood to enjoy some pretty 00's pop music. The instrumentation is definitely unique, too.

'Oxford Comma' has very relatable songwriting as I do not give a fuck about an oxford comma. To me, this whole album sounded quite whimsical and silly and it works! I love the happy vibe of this thing, especially on the next track: 'A-Punk'. The guitar riff is so bouncy and fun! I can see exactly why this charted, it's so cheery!

I'm absolutely in love with the instrumentation on 'Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa', the rhythmic hand drums add so much to this song. The Peter Gabriel reference was also a cool surprise. The production is equally good on following track 'M79', though less minimalistic. The lyrics on 'M79' are great too, particularly the bridge.

'Campus' is the only song I new already from this album. It's always a great moment when you're listening to something and realise "OH IT'S THIS SONG". I love the clean guitars all through this album, but particularly here. They add so much to the sound of the band.

After 6 bangers, 'Bryn' is the first track I'd describe as just "good". This one sounds a bit more all over the place as opposed to their neat, clean production on the rest of the tracks. It's still good, though. As is 'One (Blake's Got A New Face)', which I applaud attempting a slightly more experimental feeling. Unfortunately it doesn't go all the way, and ends up sounding like a particularly mediocre Talking Heads song. I prefer it to 'Bryn', though.

On 'Walcott' the band returns to its great songs. The organ (i think?) melody is so much cheerful, I but it's string arrangements put me off a little bit. Can't help but think they sound a little bit sappy?

'The Kids Don't Stand a Chance' isn't one of the best outro's I've heard, but it does its job. It's production is in line with the rest of the album, stellar, but I felt a little bored through it. Definitely still enjoyable, though.

Vampire Weekend's debut is one of the most entertaining pop albums of the 2000s I've ever heard, providing minimalistic production and stunning vocals. The worst thing about the album is its front-loadedness, but wow is that first half good! Its lyrical content also falls flat sometimes, but not enough for the issue to be glaring. I'd certainly recommend this album.

“FUCK THEM UP!” shouts Sarah, her watching from behind a corner as David lays bursts of fire from his M60.

She briefly pops out and blasts a three round burst at a Legionnaire popping out of a structure’s window, and he’s cut down instantly as the bullets punch through his plating, as though the life was abruptly taken from him.

*WHOOOOOOOOOOORRRTHHH*

*EXPLOSION*

A tank hangar only 1000 feet from their position is obliterated by a howitzer shell. Everyone flinches despite them having specialized earplugs designed to block explosions like this.

She clutches her ears in pain, David looks like he’s trying his best to ignore it, Ramirez stumbles while running back out with another M60 magazine and faceplants and Takashi also cups his hands to his ears in obvious pain.

They slowly restart laying suppressive fire as a NCR Patton tank roars behind them. They move out of the way, and see a group of infantry following behind it.

“GET BEHIND THE TANK!” shouts a Sergeant, and they also fall behind it, as the tank’s machinegunner blasts streams of suppressive fire.

“Poor Takashi. He gets enlisted as a M79 grenadier, and first thing he gets to see is this hellhole.”

Her thoughts are interrupted by three fighter jets blasting above, and something in the distance exploding.

She then sees a AH-1 she recognizes fluttering above and strafing something with it’s rocket pods.

tl:dr for people that don’t want to read and are going to miss out on the details and run the high risk of not actually understanding what’s happening in the battle: ncr, rogues, eagles and coalition attack the Legion controlled mojave outpost

The Siege of the Mojave Outpost, and what will be the last major battle of the war in the Mojave is finally about to take place.

30 formations of 3 Eagles helicopters (one Huey, one Vertibird, one AH-1 each) descend upon the heavily fortified Mojave Outpost, the last remnant of the once glorious Legion occupied territory.

Chinooks and Vertibirds carrying cargo containers, Sheridan tanks, and artillery pieces move towards the Outpost from the Strip, followed by two AC-130s the JCS had flown in for CAS.

At HELIOS ONE, Eagles artillery cannons begin an hour long barrage of saturation bombardment directed at the outpost.

The 8’th Tactical Fighter Squadron is going out in full force- the First Wing is having the time of their lives dropping high explosives on the fortified Mojave Outpost, shredding AA guns with ARMs and main guns, destroying Vertibirds and crude fighter planes, all while dancing and weaving through AA fire and SAM missiles.

The three fighter jets of the Crimson Rogues fire missiles and guns at various targets, doing the same, except in a very... flashy and flowy style that still gets the job done.

Patton tanks, logistics trucks, jeeps and APCs drive from the HELIOS ONE garrison through Novac and Primm which is now friendly territory of the Eagles’ new ally the NCR, and proceed down the road to the Mojave Outpost at high speed.

CIA and Sierra agents plant directional anti-vehicle mines and Claymores along various routes the Legion’s logistics team could possibly take to reinforce their position at the outpost, and sabotage AA gun radars, telephone boxes and firing mechanisms with thermite grenades to hamper AA efforts.

Four NCR Vertibirds soar across the desert towards the stronghold with Veteran Rangers and Sierra operatives armed with CBJ-MS firearms, unlicensed and once highly classified copies of Sierra Madre holorifles and NCR replicas of M56 Smartgun HMGs, assigned to assault teams of three, sniper squads of two and gun squads of two armed with a smartgun and assault carbine.

30 P-51 Mustangs, 8 C-119 Flying Boxcars, 12 F-86 Sabre fighter jets, and 15 B-29 bombers operated by the New Mexico Coalition (their state flag painted over the USAF logos) fly at low altitude above Novac, causing their residents to panic, and anyone that fought in the Korean War to have flashbacks.

B-52 Stratofortresses operated by the 2nd Bomb Wing travel towards the Outpost, flying over Novac (much to the consternation of Boone, which is feeling the effects of becoming an involuntary planespotter.)

The Reaper’s Sprint, with Phillips, Maynard, Kyle and Jacob (pilot, offensive weapons specialist, defensive weapons specialist and copilot respectively) soars in the sky in formation with two other B-1 bombers, labelled Skirtboy Shredder and Femboy’s Nightmare.

They show some well drawn but rather graphic images of a German Shephard shredding the Pteruges of a Legionnaire a la Coppertone ad, and a image of Vulpes on all fours facing the viewer while taking a MK82 bomb up the ass respectively.

NCR troopers wielding M16s and modified assault carbines with full auto fire ride in trucks, transport Vertibirds and APCs operated by the NCR towards the Outpost.

Legionnaire field mortar teams rush out with field mortars, and the howitzer artillery pieces become quickly manned as soon as the base siren goes off.

The Cobras fire their missiles, miniguns and rocket pods at targets, and the B-1s and Stratofortresses drop their payloads, flattening what hasn’t been flattened (tin buildings and crude airstrips) by the bombardments and leaving fire and devastation in it’s wake.

Ramshackle Legion fighters based on WW2 fighter aircraft and Vertibirds take off in the chaos, and try to intercept the bombers- only to be assaulted by the NMC P-51s. Although they nail one or two Mustangs in the fighting, many more are taken out by the Coalition pilots or whatever fighter wing happened to be within range at that time.

Mortar teams dash across the battlefield shooting shells of death at each other’s unseen yet esrimated position, and artillery cannons at the Outpost are swiftly brought out of commission by HELIOS howitzers.

Hueys and Vertibirds land on nearby mountains and fields, with droves of infantry disembarking among hails of Legion gunfire (for all of 30 seconds before an A-10 gun run reduces the machinegunners to thick red dusty paste speckled with metal.)

Machine gunners wielding CBJ-MS or M60s (including Sarah’s squad) lay suppressive fire against any infantry they see and occasionally try to kill each other using grenade launchers.

Pattons, Sheridans and whatever’s left of the Legion fleet duke it out, lobbing tank shells and HEAT rockets at each other. Troopers, Marines, Soldiers and their attack dogs (military cyberdogs in the case of the Eagles) disembark from APCs and while taking cover, fire LAW launchers at Legion tanks, which more or less instantly kills the crews inside. They also trade fire with Legion forces while making their way into the safety of the garrison’s trench network, blast Legionnaires with shotguns and send their fur missiles racing down trenches.

Legion AA guns and NMC M19 MGMCs light the flare-lit night up with hundreds of tracer rounds that hit basically nothing with the exception of the occasional helicopter or Mustang, while Eagles VADS systems fire short bursts of explosive sabots that utterly disintegrate whatever aircraft they shot at.

The 7’th Calvary Regiment and 2’nd Artillery Division, the historical reenactors of Siege of Alamogordo fame begin an assault with the NCR troopers, using gatling guns, Springfield rifles, calvary, and blackpowder cannons to provide an opening for NCR forces to move in.

82nd Airborne paratroopers (three squadrons) jump out of C-130s and make their drop in Legion territory behind the outpost, while NCR forces from the nearby garrison also take the fight to logistics teams.

Marine Scout Snipers, First Recon and snipers of the 75’th Rangers take positions on crests and the mountains surrounding the outpost, aiming for limbs, hydraulics units and firing explosive rounds at vehicle engine blocks and artillery pieces to sow confusion and panic in the Legionnaires.

Patton tanks with APCs following behind ram through the chain link fencing and concertina wire barriers. Their doors swing open and at least 15 screaming Crimson Rogues soldiers clad in handcrafted reinforced T-51 power armor holding MG42s on swivel mounts charge out and lay fire on Legionnaires taking defensive positions, utterly tearing their bodies to shreds, while at least 30 more Rogues infantry with assault rifles take up positions with the power armor elites in squads of three.

Reprogrammed sentry bots, Mister Gutsies, some securitrons and like three protectrons make their way towards the frontlines, with tank shells and sniper shots instantly taking out everything that isn’t a sentry bot.

A bright flash of light occurs as a beam from ARCHIMEDES II drops down from space and reduces a Legion platoon entering the complex into shadows on the hardpan.

The scrap metal statues at the Outpost has been annihilated by the saturation bombing and tank assault, leaving metal shards and fragments everywhere.

More Legion tanks and supply trucks try making their way to the fortress as dire reinforcement, only to be turned to flaming wrecks by the rotary cannons and artillery guns of the just-arrived AC-130s, or pulverized by a singular A-10 dancing across the skies.

Alarmed Mojave Brotherhood scouts run horrifying news of the battle back to the bunker, alarming McNamara as to how cutthroat and horrifying (to outsiders) the battle has become.

An orchestra of gunfire, explosions, diesel engines, helicopters, sonic booms, buzzing, artillery and orders and screams of agony from all sides sets the backdrop soundtrack of the battle.

Prompt: A Random Idea I had

Rain.

Mud.

Lightning.

Darkness.

The epitome of trench warfare.

John-117 wasn’t a stranger to these natural elements, but admittedly he didn’t typically experience them in this context all together.

The Spartan walked along the five foot wide trench with his MA5B Individual Combat Weapon System at the ready. To his right was a concrete steel-reinforced firing-step about four and a half feet off the ground, as to allow Marines to fire over the parapet of the ten foot deep concrete trench. To his left, a concrete wall occasionally broken up by the entrance to a dugout containing a few dozen bunks or ammo crates. He watched a pair of marines climb up onto the firing step and take position by a mounted machine gun. The Master Chief recognized them from last week.

“Will you shut up?”

“‘Who’s Bob?’ The hell kinda question was that? Haven’t you heard of a first name?”

“Your first name is Private, you’re gonna be Private all your life.”

Private Schmegeggy and Private Rosen.

The pair had charged a trio of Elites that had pinned down a Corpsman in a shell crater as he tried to help the artillery officer that had been caught in the blaster. With a few close calls, the pair of Privates had rescued both men and returned to friendly lines.

John could respect that bravery. As such, when Rosen glanced over at him as he walked by, he nodded at the young Marine, who’s face broke into a smile and nodded back.

John understood that he was considered a hero to the ranks. A very long successful mission record, plenty of eyewitness accounts of “heroism”, and the Office of Naval Intelligence’s Section Two hyping up his achievements with propaganda had led to him being one of, if not the most revered human alive.

Just because he understood it didn’t mean it didn’t confuse him. A soldier didn’t deserve the title ‘hero’ just for doing his job. But, he did what was needed of him. Sometimes people needed a hero, be they real, fictional, willing, or unwilling.

The Spartan walked down a set of stairs to pass under a pillbox that spanned over the top of the trench and was partially buried to hide it from Covenant air strikes. Inside the pillbox was an M68 Gauss Cannon along with two M247H Heavy Machine Guns, capable of being manned by just four marines; Two for the M247s, and two for the M68. There were several dozen just like it in the outer defense ring of Firebase Romeo.

Firebase Romeo may have been called a Firebase, but it was more like a fortress. Three rings of trenches with a dozen pillboxes each, artillery batteries between those trenches in concealment holes, several dozen M79 Multiple Launch Rocket Systems mounted on the base walls, countless heavy machine guns, ten M808C Scorpion Main Battle Tanks, a dozen M12 LRVs, the list went on.

Making a turn down another trench, John made for the main section of the Firebase, only to stop. His instincts started screaming at him.

“Incoming!”

The trenches sprang to life, Marines diving for cover, looking out for incoming fire, dragging comrades to safety.

John’s eyes immediately found the barrage of incoming plasma bombs, and subsequently deduced where they had come from.

A nearby ridge line with heavy foliage concealed the dozen or so Wraith tanks that had fired the barrage, and he could already see readying a second barrage. He blinked into his HUD and connected to the comm channel the artillery crews used to communicate.

“Romeo Battery Command, Sierra-117. Eyes on hostile armor. Request One Round, followed by Battery Fire For Effect at following coordinates.” The Spartan blinked again and transmitted said coordinates to the Battery Commander.

“Confirmed Sierra, standby.”

A pause. Then a single boom.

“Shot! Over.”

A few seconds.

“Splash! Over.”

The Wraith rounds finally landed as he saw the single artillery shell land in exactly the right place. Crouching down against the trench wall just to be safe as dirt and residual plasma washed over him, he spoke again. “Splash confirmed. Fire For Effect.”

“Understood, Firing For Effect!” And a second later, deafening booms started echoing over the trenches as Romeo Battery opened up with everything it had. John saw fire erupt over the Wraith line followed by a second plasma barrage before several explosions in the tree line as the line of Wraiths went up in purple flames.

Blinking into the open-comm frequency, John caught the next major problem.

“Pillbox 17, hostile infantry in sight, north-by-northwest. Contact. Contact.” Followed by the sound of both heavy machine guns in the pillbox opening up.

From closer to him, John heard Private Rosen scream. “Here they come!”

As he quickly made his way back to the outer trench, John reconnected to the Artilerry Frequency and examined the open field the UNSC Corps of Engineers had created when constructing Firebase Romeo that the Covenant were now crossing. Open, muddy ground with little to no cover. Hundreds upon hundreds of Covenant infantry and vehicles charging across No Man’s Land.

“Battery Command, Sierra. Recommend adjust firing position by twelve degrees East.”

“Understood Sierra, adjusting. Keep your heads down.”

Shells started flying overhead leaving trails of fire in the sky, slamming into the Covenant lines.

John shouldered his MA5B and added his own fire to the roaring staccato.

No shots missed. Two Grunts. An Elite. Even a Brute.

He heard the anti-air cannons on the base walls open up, followed by the sound of Banshee engines screaming. “Strafing run!”

John dozen to the ground as his shields started draining from high-power plasma strikes. As he stood up, he watched a pillbox detonate in a ball of green fire as a Fuel Rod blast detonated the M68’s power cell.

The Master Chief spotted Private Rosen staring in fear at the fireball approaching and then turning to run.

He’s not gonna make it.

The Spartan launched himself down the trench and grabbed Rosen’s wrist, flinging him into one of the dugouts and covering the entrance with his own body to protect the other marines inside.

His shields shattered. Heat washed over him. He heard a grunt of pain escaped his lips as small bouts of flame slipped past, but nothing more. When the flames passed, he moved away without another word and returned to the firing step.

“Master Chief, we just received an E-BAND transmission from a Ranger unit on a nearby hill-“

And then leaped out of the trench as he spotted a Brute Chopper zipping towards him. He sprinted towards the vehicle, sidestepped the spikes it shot at him, then grabbed the Brute in the driver’s seat as it drove by. He tore it from its seat and took its place.

“-assist if you can.”

“Mayday! Kilo 279, I’m hit!”

“-Delta Two Bravo, Mine Strike!”

John spotted the flaming Pelican descending through the clouds, and knew he had a decision to make.

Kilo 279...

or the Rangers.

Not enough time.

John revved his engine as Kilo 279 slammed cockpit-first into the dirt, running over Covenant troops in the process. He depressed the triggers on the handles and mowed down more. Then he spotted the Locust.

Pulling a grenade from his belt, he primed the detonator and shoved it into the wheel-well before leaking into the air and pulling backflip as the Chopper slammed into one of the Locust’s legs and detonated, destroying the siege-platform.

John landed at a kneel with one fist on the ground and tilted his visor upwards.

“The Demon-!”

Spartan Time kicked in.

His MA5B practically teleported into his hands.

Body after body dropped to the dirt.

The Spartan shot forward and grabbed a Jackal by the throat, throwing it at a pair of Sangheili that were charging him in slow motion. As the Jackal took flight, John whirled and emptied and entire magazine into a Brute, then tossed his rifle onto his mag-clamps on his back.

No time to reload.

Magnum in his hand without even realizing, he downed three Jackals and a pair of Sangheili with one mag.

As time sped up again, he became aware of a shout from behind him.

“Cover the Chief!”

He didn’t have to look behind him to hear the dozens of marines and the crew of Kilo-279 rallying behind him.

Then engines screaming. Shouts of joy.

“Hell yeah! Air support!”

John looked up as a flight of B-65 Shortswords swooped low over the valley and dropped napalm on the Covenant advance. A second flight focused on the Covenant armor, dropping Mark 208 High-Yield Gravity Buster bombs.

And then nearly all of them exploded.

Covenant point defense weapons had shot them down. A Covenant frigate lowered through the clouds, and John tensed. Not even he could deal with that. Not from the ground.

“Sierra-117, Vindication-Actual. Standby for MAC strike.”

Hi hi hi! I’ve been following you for about a month now? I’ve noticed you have an OC named Blair whos interested in Dante and I would like to know about her! I think OC’s are underrated and I love hearing about them so please do share anything you want because this anon is curious!

hello hello hello! I’m so happy you’ve taken an interest in my OC! It always warms my heart when people wanna know more about her, and I completely agree: OC’s are criminally underrated and deserve much more love! Honestly, I haven’t talked about her much in quite a while now but I still think about her and conjure up scenarios/lore about her on the daily. She’s always changing and growing. That being said, I’ll start off with the basics! Her name is Blair Reinhardt, she’s in her mid 30′s, and she’s a 6′2″ beefy bisexual devil hunter! Her main weapon of choice is a giant hammer made from the horns of furiataurus from dmc2 (think like monster hunter hammer in design and size) and she has 3 demon companions: Geri and Freki (also from dmc2) and an original demon called a Valkyrie who lends her their power to use as she sees fit. I’ve also thought about giving her a devil arm that works and looks like an M79 launcher that Nico handcrafted for her, but I’m still figuring out its design and special quirk. And she has a pair of demonic boots with a mean appetite >:3c When she’s not demon hunting with the crew you can usually find her on the eastside of Capulet City where she works as a bartender and pianist/singer at the local music lounge. Personality-wise, Blair is a very sweet and empathetic person with a warm smile for all, but she’s definitely no pushover. She’s upfront and open, doesn’t beat around the bush or sugar coat anything which makes her seem kind of blunt and brash to some but those that are close to her know that she simply values transparency and honesty and doesn’t particularly like people who don’t just say what they mean. She’s a very dependable person and she’ll always be there for her friends as she treasures her interpersonal relationships greatly. Nero, Nico, Kyrie, and Dante are some of the people she is closest to (Vergil would be among this group but he’s more reserved when it comes to friendships, though he does care about Blair and holds an immense amount of respect for her. And he gladly goes on hunts with her too if the opportunity ever occurs!) I had commissioned this wonderful artist for a character ref sheet for Blair that I have been meaning to make a post about so now’s as good a time as any! Here she is! ^3^

I’m love her so much ;w; she is my pride and joy and one of my few OC’s who is actually almost completely fleshed out. Again, I’m so honored that someone wants to know more about her, and if you have any other questions about her or if there’s anything in specific you’re curious about, please feel free to ask! COTABATO CITY – Seven combatants of the local terrorist group Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) decided to surrender to the military in North Cotabato to live normal lives once more, officials said Thursday.

With the help of acting Mayor Muhyryn Sultan Casi of Pikit, North Cotabato the BIFF surrenderers laid down their arms and yielded on Thursday afternoon to the Army’s 602nd Infantry Brigade (602Bde) in Pikit, North Cotabato.

The BIFF batch turned in their rifles during surrender rites to Brigadier General Roberto Capulong, commander of 602Bde, and Lt. Col. Rommel Mundala, commanding officer of the 90th Infantry Battalion as witnessed by local officials.

The mayor has offered to provide initial cash assistance and livelihood packages to the former rebels so they can start a peaceful and normal life.

They surrendered three M14 rifles, one homemade KG-9 automatic pistol; one rocket-propelled grenade launcher; a 12-gauge shotgun; an M79 grenade launcher; an improvised explosive device with blasting cap; and assorted ammunition.

Capulong the surrenderers were involved in atrocities in Pikit, and against military forces in the so-called SPMS box composed of the adjoining towns of Shariff Aguak, Datu Saudi Ampatuan (Pagatin), Mamasapano, and Datu Salibo.

“They all belonged to the BIFF Kagui Karialan faction and linked to highway robberies, hold-up, liquidation operations, and extortion activities in North Cotabato and Maguindanao,” Capulong said.

In a statement, Maj. Gen. Juvymax Uy, 6th Infantry Division commander, has expressed hope other BIFF members will follow suit to also be reunited with the families. Since January this year, about 36 BIFF have surrendered to the 6ID, he said. (PNA)

Col. Rogelio Gabi, commander of the Army’s 40th Infantry Battalion, said no casualty was reported when troops patrolling the remote village of Bulod, General Salipada Pendatun town clashed with an undetermined number of suspected Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) at 2 a.m. Tuesday.

Soldiers, however, recovered sophisticated guns left behind by state enemies; among them, a rocket-propelled grenade, a Barret rifle, an M79, an M14, two M16, four 7.62mm AR16, one pistol/submachine gun, eight magazines for AR, two M16 magazines, four Bandoliers, one hydro pack, a sling bag, a magazine for 9mm pistol/submachine gun, five cellular phones, 26-round cartridges of caliber .50 Ball, 89 rounds of 7.62mm Ball, 48 rounds of 5.56mm Ball, a Baofeng radio with a spare battery, and a Cygnus radio spare battery.

“We immediately deployed supplemental troops to reinforce the engaged soldiers,” Gabi said.

The BIFF, a splinter group of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), has been operating in Maguindanao after its split from MILF, the country’s largest rebel group, in 2008. The MILF had signed a peace deal with the government that eventually led to the setting up of the expanded Bangsamoro autonomous region after the ratification of the new law governing it in a 2019 plebiscite.

“Due to our troops’ vantage position, the militants disengaged from the gunfight, bringing along their casualties with them,” Western Mindanao Command Chief Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr. said.

Earlier, the military has tightened security across the region for possible retaliatory attacks following the deaths of BIFF bomb experts; among them, Abraham Abad Abdulrahman (alias Abu Suffian), suspected of the Cotabato city mall bombing in 2018.

Abdulrahman was killed after an alleged shootout with the police during a pre-dawn raid at his home in Cotabato City.

In the previous week, troops killed suspected BIFF bomb-maker Abdul Rashid Lamalan as the latter tried to smuggle an improvised bomb into the town of Isulan in nearby Sultan Kudarat province, according to Col.
