He develops and produces audiovisual ideas and concepts for film, radio and TV. His scope of work comprises composing and producing film music, sound branding, concepts and productions for spatial communication, especially for museums, trade fairs and events, as well as concerts with his own band Dukespan NYC. He composed the film music for several episodes of the series “Treasures of the World”. He produced a Collector’s Box with the well-known typographer Kurt Weidemann. The ARTE ratings hit “I, the king of porn – the adventurous life of Lasse Braun” bears his acoustic signature. Member of VDT (Verein Deutscher Tonmeister – Association of German Sound Engineers) since 2001. Full member of GEMA since 2016. Life and work: After studying Classical Percussion at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich, he moved to New York City in 1988. He completed a Bachelor degree in Jazz and Contemporary Music at the New School for Social Research and then moved on to the renowned Manhattan School of Music to complete a Masters degree in Jazz and Commercial Composition. During his studies he was already a musician and a road & stage manager for the jazz ensembles “the Carl Allen Quintett” and “Cindy Blackman Quartett”. For five years he was personal assistant to the jazz legend Max Roach (drummer, composer). Other significant companions, mentors and teachers along the way have been and are: Pat Metheny, Dave Grusin,, Eric Burdon, Wynton Marsalis, Bob Belden, Reggie Workman, Ludmila Ulehla, Bernard “Pretty” Purdie, Adam Nussbaum, Keith Copland, Joe Chambers, Kenny Washington, Jerry Gonzalez, Kenny Werner, Richie Beirach, Kirk Nurock, Theo Bleckman, Kenny Drew jr. etc. The experiences gathered during this time set the foundations for his musical identity. During his time in the USA, he worked in parallel for Mercedes-Benz as a consultant and musical director, and also as a composer and producer at international automobile exhibitions in Detroit, Los Angeles and New York. Since 1988 he has been the band leader, drummer and vibraphonist of the band Dukespan NYC, whose “acoustic pop, rock & classic soul with a twist of jazz” and tours in the USA, Canada, Japan and Europe have brought them fans all around the world. He is now represented on over 100 compilations worldwide under his artist’s name “Duke Span”. After 15 years in the USA he returned to his geographical roots in 2001.
