What exactly would you say were the problems with mcc as opposed to this event? Like how could noxcrew fix mcc?
First off, the events are just completely different in structure—MCC is a team-based game with a rotating slate of minigames that's for the most part a monthly event, whereas Squidcraft is a free-for-all that takes place once a year and has a new slate of events from year to year. I don't think Noxcrew can do much in that regard to 'fix things' other than introduce more games? However, I'm fully aware of how much time and effort that takes to do, and since because they're not actually paid anything to run the event I have no expectations for them to do so. So on the Noxcrew side of things? Not much LOL
My criticisms are levied more towards the community—I've been a Dream in MCC enjoyer for a long time, and there's always been quite a bit of animosity and hostility towards him. At the beginning (say MCC6-MCC13) I think that there was at least some basis for it, he was much more loose-lipped and brash with his criticisms and I'll be the first to admit that he was a little annoying sometimes. But that came with unwarranted things like people literally inventing tiers just to keep him away from the community's golden boy S-tiers, and it often just felt like he was othered from the community because he brought a competitiveness people weren't ready to face despite. yk. it being a competitive tournament.
Also, during mcc's return, 2021 dttwt had a lot of ppl who were nasty and annoying and incited mcc drama just to fight about it (I'd been on the receiving end of it a few times trust me LOL). So those two things combined soured the general mcc community towards Dream and everything only snowballed from there. For instance, MCC14 was a DISASTER for the green guardians and right after, people on the reddit didn't even stop to go "hey, maybe he had an off event, he's just some guy after all" and instead went Okay Well he underperformed he should be demoted a tier immediately, and it was incredibly frustrating as someone who knew that his performance was a one-off. Thankfully he went on to back-to-back win the next two events but demotion never left the realm of discussion—not to mention that mcc days just became a cesspool on twitter, people across the board talking shit about how the dteam made mcc too sweaty or how the hermits were being boring and should get better at pvp etc and it was just. not fun to be part of the community.
That all spilled over into Dream needing to be incredibly careful with his words, setting boundaries about not harassing Scott/Noxcrew, softening every criticism with praise so that dttwt wouldn't get up in arms about a non-issue all while ALSO having to retain his reputation with the redditors so that he wouldn't be tossed to the side the second he underperformed. That is to say, it felt stressful to be a fan, and in some mcc's he ended stream bowing under the pressure, apologizing for underperforming or not winning when it wasn't something that I think most of his viewers cared about, and it just made some mcc days feel like a downer because he couldn't just let himself have fun, he had to be the diplomat towards everyone.
This event, on the other hand, just felt a lot more welcoming. Partially, I think that's because of the fact that it's a FFA instead of a team tournament, but it's also just that it didn't feel like anyone was coming into the day with malicious intent nor odds stacked against him, and there were very few expectations of him other than "woah that's Dream the best minecrafter in the world he seems like a cool dude" where ppl acknowledged he was just some guy who's good at the game. He didn't need to be diplomatic per se, he could just be his corny, teasing self towards people like Spreen and Rubius and no one would have started a hate campaign towards him because they'd take it in jest, and he didn't have any statisticians to perform incredibly well for either. It was p obvious he wasn't nearly as wired as he normally is during mcc and it made it so much more fun that he could perform without the pressure we normally see him under. He was just hanging with his friends, being a goofball towards strangers, and having fun fucking around! Which, with the multifaceted pressure during MCC, just isn't possible.
disclaimer this is completely from the perspective of someone who has primarily watched Dream (and his close friends) for mcc since 2020 so these criticisms center around him !! so it's not really a general thing
#long post#tldr it's complicated. there is no static set of fixes that could be pulled off to make it enjoyable w the different formats imo#it's just a snowball of a bunch of different things that make mc.c kinda miserable as as dream liker compared to a fresh new event like thi#and don't get me wrong I still adore mc.c and am incredibly grateful for the memories I've made watching it for the past 3ish years#but I had more fun watching this event and blogging w dtblr than I have in ages watching mc.c#probably because I didn't have to worry about community fallout or sit with bated breath hoping twt didn't overreact about smth#plus he and the people around him genuinely seemed to be having a ton of fun so that helped a lot too :D#lyss answers#anon tag#sc2#lyss.mcc

ok my thoughts on the all things mcc video
why would u mention the iron doors I'm still not over that dumbass room
there was like. a full minute of George running the ravager pit and while I'm full well an enjoyer of his SOT plays it was a little less than a quarter of the video about someone else
They mention how he's changed the game, how his strategies are incredibly important, and then... don't mention his most powerful strategies?
For instance, assigning everyone a tunnel to run based on their skill level and experience. It's something that makes his team more efficient, and people use it even afterwards when they're teamed against him. It makes this incredibly dense game a lot more manageable.
As a runner, I think that his decision-making is something that can be highlighted as well—he argued all the time with H about the best way to run tunnels, and his plays are incredible because they highlight his incredible balance of risk-taking and skill. I'd point to him switching off with George in MCC All-Stars, where he knew George wasn't confident enough to do the parkour to the gold key so he swapped out with him, or the MCC22 parkour run that made everyone in their vod reviewing vc stop and yell at him.
Idk I think Dream's genius isn't really told well watching one run or another, it's little moments and then the game-over-game consistency with which he (and his team) performs. He's turned SOT haters into lovers/tolerators (see: benchtrio) just by teaming with them and explaining the game. 4 minutes definitely isn't enough to show just how cracked he is, and while I respect the quality of editing and time it takes to gather clips for this video, I just don't think it does him justice at all
#lyss rambles#lyss.dream#lyss.mcc#when people don't do the dt justice in mcc I have to write like 25743985 paragraphs explainign their genius sorry

hi hello this is kind of random and idk if anyone else has mentioned it but youre like one of the resident mcc posters so i thought i’d say it here
it looks like scott maaaaay potentially be looking into including spanish streamers in mcc. do you think this is even possible? or they may just expect spanish speakers to understand english?
scott recently followed spreen and spreen follows the mcc account and liked george’s mcc team announcement which is why it seems likely he may be in a future event
I saw that on my twitter this morning! I think it could definitely be possible, since teams are organized in advance and they could be on one of those special guest teams and imo could be balanced with the already cemented spanish-speaking cc's in the event (my mind goes to a team of jojo, shadoune, spreen, and q, only balanced because spreen and shadoune would be new though LOL).
Also I'm sure that if Noxcrew can modify the game to make MCC work, they would be able to find volunteers to translate the games into Spanish and have a language option—this already exists on Hypixel so I'm sure it's possible and not overly complicated.
My only concern would be them skipping the waitlist I guess? Not that I don't want them in the event (they would be SO fun), but going off of what Alex yellumina and I were talking about last night under my Benex post, I would want him in the event more than any of the newer cc's solely because the guy's been waiting for ages and is really only being excluded because they don't want to introduce too many skilled competitors (an argument that doesn't really make sense to me but whatever).
That being said, I think it would be logistically pretty simple but also really fun!
#they'd have to either 1) wrangle Q back in or 2) work through the language barrier so depending on what the decision is on that#I think it'd definitely be workable!#lyss answers#anon tag#lyss.mcc

A thing I appreciate about dteam in MCC is that George and Sapnap got out of Dream’s shadow a bit as far as Minecraft skill goes. Dream is rightfully known to be amazing and I miss seeing him be competitive so so much, but George ended up being so casually cracked at certain things and Sapnap is too good to even be on the same team as Dream anymore least the teams be too unbalanced. MCC made them all stand out.
Dream came into MCC swinging, putting in all the work he could to try and compete against Techno and that plus his natural skill made him an insane player in season 1, and because Sapnap and George were kind of regarded as his side pieces they weren't really seen as good players and it made me a little upset because they are really good—like in those pkw leaderboards I posted George is never far behind (or is even ahead!) of Sapnap and they're both really fucking good, even without being compared to Dream!
Even in S1 without Dream, they nearly clean swept dodgebolt to win an event in MCC9 and though I adore MCC9 blue it's something that's never really talked about positively for SNF even though that's easily a testament to how good they are (for reference it was them, Dave Krtzyy, and Eret and they came 4th in MCC8 and 2nd in MCC9).
and then in season 2, Sapnap breaks out of Dream's shadow to become one of, if not THE top player while George has quietly hovered around or above the 10th place spot like they're both AMAZING and even though I miss my Dream Team MCC teams, I love seeing them all be regarded so highly <3
ps here's a clip that's literally always on my mind when I talk about George being underrated in MCC like dream my favorite gnf defender he really gets it

i really hope george continues to sign up for mcc next season because not only do i miss george mcc streams in general but holy shit i miss watching his sot runs live so badly
he needs to break his streak of not signing up if Dream doesn't because Dream sitting out is already enough emotional turmoil for me but losing both of dnf in one fell swoop is like a lethal injection
#if I never see a new George SOT I'm blowing this entire place up#lyss answers#anon tag#lyss.mcc#lyss.gnf

people on the mcc subreddit arguing that sapnap’s insane s2 achievements don’t matter bc some of it “comes from dodgebolt which isn’t a coin earning game” should know that I’m throttling them in my brain rn
#lyss.tagramble#lyss.mcc#illu is fucking INSANE and no one is going to dispute that#but sap’s also got the highest indiv score in all of s2 and is indisputably one of the best players in nearly every other game#they’re both contenders for top and sap can carry a team not only to but through dodgebolt which is a skill in and of itself#like you can argue but don’t you DARE put my girlfriend down while doing it
