📸 🎥 ATP Challenger Livestream (via website)
The second set turned out to be a rollercoaster, marked Paire’s service game step-up. There were 11 consecutive holds before Paire had a set point out of Pouille’s errors; however, Pouille still managed to construct a backhand lob to secure his first game point before his backhand winner secured the second set tie-break several points after.
Paire started the tie-break erratically while Pouille was solid on his serve, eventually had an unreturned serve for his match point to 6-1. The tables started to turn on Paire’s serves (with some unreturned ones), add that with a volley to save one of Pouille’s match points as the key before Pouille double-faulted right at another match point. Eventually, Paire tried to bring Pouille off the balance from his serves, with an ace to secure his set point before Pouille’s backhand rush resulted in Paire taking the second set 7-6(6), bringing the match to a decider.

I knew Mike Faist was in this movie, I just wasn't prepared for how much cunt he would serve in this role... Mr. Tumnus beard and all.

Lyon Ch F: Hugo Gaston [1] def. Alexandre Muller [2] 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 Match Stats
Tumblr media
📸 ATP official website
Even though H. Gaston had a stellar start on return in the first set thanks to his down-the-line approaches, as well as his net game and drop shots, to name a few, the first seed was unable to maintain his range as A. Muller became more aggressive, but the former nailed it as the latter double-faulted twice in the middle of the third set, taking that advantage and had not looked back since. As a result, even if both players generated 11 break points, H. Gaston converted more break points with 4, 2 of each came from the first and the third sets.
Besides, despite the chaotic flow, H. Gaston navigated his service games slightly better. Scoring 3 more aces than A. Muller's 1, the first seed won 8% more of his first serve points than A. Muller at 70%, which helped him handling the most pressing moments on his serve except likely the second set. On the other hand, despite H. Gaston double-faulting 4 times than A. Muller's 2, the latter's frequent shot rushes toward the end of the match faded his second serve winning percentage to 31%, 20% lower than H. Gaston as the match progressed.
This marked H. Gaston's first Challenger title of the year, where he went back to 69 live by the end of the tournament, while A. Muller went back to 78 live as a result of his runner-up run. The former will head straight to the Ilkley Challenger, where qualifier M. Tomas Barrios Vera awaits in the first round, as the latter will head to the Sassuolo Challenger, where he will face Jesper de Jong in the first round. Some things are ahead!

London, 1894
Kenneth
My lovely wife could have lit and thrown a stick of dynamite at the podium and caused less destruction than she did with only her voice. As far as I could piece together between incessant apologies, Constance Clancy told her about Gresbrooke’s role in my campaign, not thinking anything of it, and Emmeline regarded it to be such a horrible betrayal that she took out the carriage and stormed in during Gresbrooke’s speech to loudly — so, so loudly — disavow him and his “corruption and rot.” Gresbrooke has only said one thing to me on the matter since: “Leash that woman, or I will.” It is my unenviable position to be the man in charge of the leashing.
Truthfully, I am terribly cross with her at this moment, but I must repress it for the time being. It is a result of my own weakness — Dr. Lyon confirmed precisely what I suspected, which is that Emmeline is not in full possession of herself and cannot control her actions nor be held as responsible for them. As long as she is in this state, she is not Emmeline, Dr. Lyon says, but some wounded animal with all of her fears and pains and rages but none of the self-awareness and love that makes her my Emmeline. While I may be feeling humiliated and, frankly, emasculated by her, I must remind myself that — once she is out of this dreadful state — she will feel all that I am feeling double-fold.
I tried to have a talk with her in our chambers, and she screamed at me like a wild animal. Dr. Lyon tells me I should not feel like any less of a man or husband for it, but I am not equipped to “heal” her as I would like to. I was a touch too disoriented to recognize where he was attempting to direct the conversation, so when he told me what course of action he would recommend as a doctor, I was shocked, befuddled, and dismayed all at once. I told him I was most ardently against the notion of sending my well-bred, highly intelligent wife to a sanitarium like some sort of madwoman. He asked me if I was willing to risk her life over my own ego, but I told him it was not a matter of ego at all — polite society never forgives nor forgets, surely, but it can, to a degree, sympathize with the husband of a lunatic. We have not forgotten our Brontës so soon. Dr. Lyon knows me well, however: he said that that was not the sort of ego he meant to suggest, but the one that declared that I would not be any husband at all to her if I could not resolve her nervous condition through my own care. It is true: the idea of any other man being able to do for her what I cannot is almost too awful to bear, but Dr. Lyon reminded me of our boys, and dear little Isabelle — my responsibility is to them first and foremost…a sentiment Emmeline would share if she was in any state of mind to.
He promised that there are ones made for women like her, and we decided on one some distance away due to its quality. My wife will receive only the best possible care our great nation has to provide.

Hailing from the icy waters of Simartica, Menodora Lyon, a self-proclaimed "wanderer," has charmed her way through many lands, from the dreary mist of Forgotten Hollow to the humid shores of Tartosa. The stories she could tell you of her time around the globe would take days to get through, if you want the juicy details. Her humble abode, currently on the coast of Sulani, holds souvenirs of all her travels, while her tongue holds the languages of the spots she stayed at the longest.
But for all she's found, she's never found love.
Passion, yes. Pleasure, in abundance. But never love. It would require her to stay in one place, with one person, long enough to trust them. The older she gets, the more she longs for it. Which is why she has pushed herself to take on this challenge. Money is the least of her motivations. She wants a CHALLENGE. She wants to make a connection worth more than all the treasures she's dug up through SimWorld. She wants a souvenir that never breaks, a language shared between soulmates, and a story of happily ever after.
And when she does, she's going to ROCK. HER. SOUL. MATE'S. WORLD.

Book Review #22 of 2023--
Tumblr media
The Ruin of Kings by Jenn Lyons. Rating: 4 stars.
Read from February 15th to 21st.
I’m going to start this review off with a reason I probably won’t continue the series despite giving this first book 4 stars. I found that this world had so much depth and the author clearly knows everything within it, but I found that her explanations could be murky at times. I understand the people, the concepts, the magic and all of that, but I don’t feel like I understand it as well as the author intended. I think she is so honed in on the minute details that some things get lost in the narration. Which is so frustrating because I actually really found myself enjoying this one--despite the footnotes! It is such a complex world, especially considering that people who have died while wearing the Stone of Shackles have jumped into other people’s bodies. It’s a lot. There is a glossary, a family tree, a guide to all the families. But even with all of those sources it was still complex and convoluted at times.
However, I actually enjoyed the two timelines. I worried that I wouldn’t but I loved seeing how the two timelines managed to come together and seeing how people have grown from one timeline to the next. I enjoyed the characters for the most part. I think the side characters need to be built up a bit more for me to really love them, but they were still good. I liked the concepts that were discussed in here about consent, slavery, family...all of that. I also think the narrative style really works for what this story is. I don’t know that having a narrator who isn’t either of the main characters but who also gives their own feedback or explanation in the footnotes really works in a lot of stories. But it really worked here as a sort of report being given to government official.
Overall, I think it’s really good and I had a good time. I just don’t think this is a series for me. I know people who absolutely love it and love the political machinations and that’s great for them. It’s just not really up my alley as a whole series.
