@mslangermann moved from here to convert to beta
Deep down, her shriek seemed to pierce right through Lance's bones, shook him to his core. On the outside though, there was nothing else but wrath about his body. Hot, white, insane rage. Ozzing right out of him like a spinning invisible typhoon. Making that skull on the pavement crack harder and harder the longer he was forced to look at it, though it was more than obvious that this man was very dead by now. It kept crushing anyway. Thankfully, it was then that Lynn finally chose to listen to Lance's previous plea, slammed her foot on the gas, started driving away. Veering around the other vehicle that was trying its best to keep them boxed in.
But its best was nothing compared to that wrath that was still coursing through Lance's body as they passed that car. Truth be told, the host didn't even quite know just why his hitchhiker had gone so quickly off the rails. From mocking, making fun of the situation to....this. Utter carnage.
Dead body on the ground in the distance. One car....no two cars suddenly a tangled and crunched up mess behind them. The occupied one T-boned by the other driverless vehicle of a dead man. Even as he looked in the rearview mirror, mad eyes glued to that bleeding body in the ground in the distance, Lance could see that it was still at it. Pressing the two men and their vehicle further and further into a building wall with the dead man's car, keeping them pinned, crushing them as Lynn sped away from the scene. Leaving behind nothing but a screeching, howling mess of blood, flesh and metal in the distance.
Metal.
Now he remembered. That short glimpse of a holster. A gun at the guy's hip, glistening in the sun.
This guy could've shot them. Lynn. Him. If this man'd been Murkoff, if he'd been with whatever it was that scared her...he could've...
But what if he hadn't been? What if those had been cops? What if it hadn't been about anything but a busted taillight? Or the fact that he was in fact, an asylum escapee, one the cops were still on the look out after all? One who was wanted for murder? Murder he'd let happen all over again, right back there just now? Letting it crack and crack and crack a skull wide open. Not unlike the sounds he'd forced out of that goddamn kid when he'd wrapped his hands around his throat and...
This...right here. This was enough. Enough to shock Lance. To anger him, not it. And it certainly was enough to snap him right out of it. Because no. It was enough. He started bombarding this thing with his own fury and need to talk to her until he successfully wrestled back control from it, looked right at her with an entirely different expression on his face now. More himself. Worried. Apologetic. Despairing. And oh so fucking...
Tumblr media
"...sorry. I'm so sorry you had to see this. 'That' was fucked up and I don't even know where to fucking begin explaining any of it. Are you okay? Are you hurt? Please tell me these guys were Murkoff and that this means the situation was fucked either way, that this didn't just..."
Shit, fuck. Get it together, Preston. All of this just scared the crap out of this woman. An innocent woman who gave you a ride. All of this is new for her, not for you. Don't make it worse for her. You can always freak out later.
"Are you okay?" he asked once more, firmer, checking, voice and look on his face steadying, softening. Breathing getting just a little bit steadier when he noticed that it didn't look like it had touched a hair on her head at least, that she seemed to be just fine.

mslangermann:
She wants to believe him. She wants to think that this was all a coincidence and he’s really the father of a new graduate, taking his groceries home. But it’s too convenient. The request for a ride, the tailing cars, the alternative route suggestion. Red flags. Some part of her, the rational part that still lingered beneath her paranoia, tries to brush it off, but she ignores it. Something is wrong here.
There’s a shift in his tone, the friendly conversation put to the side as something seemingly real creeps in. Out of the corner of her eye, Lynn notices how he pulls away from her. Out of fear, maybe. But what if he’s innocent? What if he’s not a part of this at all? The thought doesn’t linger for long as the cars inch closer. So close she can see the outline of the driver.
“I… don’t think I can do that,” she says slowly, each word slipping past her lips as if it’s unconscious. Automatic. Another glance at the rearview mirror tells her they’re even closer, their speed beginning to exceed hers. It won’t be long before they’re on top of her. How could she be so stupid? Did she really think she could outrun the company who brainwashed an entire town, who slipped beneath the public’s eyes and experimented on human beings for years? Lynn is smart, but Murkoff is smarter. Her stomach twists tighter at the thought.
“I can’t pull over. I-” Behind her, the closest car lights up blue and red, a siren giving a warning wail. Instinctively, she wants to slam her foot on the gas, to speed away and leave the apparent cop behind. But that would attract even more attention. Her mind whirls, each plan coming and going in seconds. Nothing will work. As the seconds tick by, she’s pushed deeper into a corner with no teeth to defend her.
“Jesus. Fuck.” She mutters, flicking her signal light and slowly pulling off to the right side of the road. A pounding heart threatens to choke her and the silence swells between them. In an attempt to collect her thoughts, she rests her forehead against the wheel. If only for a moment.
“Please… please tell me you’re not with Murkoff.” As she speaks, the car pulls up behind her, its lights still flashing. A man bearing no police uniform exits the driver’s side and strides towards her car.
Tumblr media
Lifting her head, she looks at the man in her passenger seat, fear etched into the fine lines of her face.
I don’t think I can do that.
And just like that, all color drained from Lance’s face as he looked back at her, wide eyed. Going straight into survival mode.
“The fuck does that mean? Why?” He realized how strange he was acting. The sudden change in tone and behavior. From friendly and chatty straight to paranoid and scared. But the way she’d just said that, followed by the sight of blue and red flashing in the car behind them...that didn’t leave anymore space for friendliness. Now he was outright panicked. Reaching for the door handle and eager to jump out when she slowed down and pulled over.
It was just too fucking bad that he was a wanted man. Having run from a mental institution and all, after killing someone in self defense. To save himself from some fucked up cult that was trying its very best to drag him right back to where he’d only just escaped from.
Shit. shit shit shit shit shit. He didn’t want to go back to Maryland. He didn’t want to go back. Period. And more than anything, he didn’t want to get imprisoned all over again. But of course, if he bolted out of her car now, he’d just make it worse. Seal the deal, make this officer chase him right down, get suspicious. An officer who, surprisingly enough, didn’t wear a uniform. Walking away from a car that looked nowhere near anything they would use.
They’ve probably been watching you for a while. You know they’re not going to wear uniforms and make it all obvious for you now, are they? They’re coming to get you.
Of course. That thing inside was wide awake now. Lured and baited by all that fear seeping through his mind and body. Eager to keep it going, feast on it, make the paranoia worse.
This isn’t fucking funny. Not helping.
When Lynn suddenly spoke again while he was busy talking to that thing inside him, Lance visibly startled and let out a little shout, looking at her in panic, then all confused.
Tumblr media
“What? What’s Murkoff?” he replied, look on his face making it very obvious that he had no fucking idea who or what she was talking about. “Look. I’m not with anybody, okay. I really just w...” Just like that, there was a sudden loud knock on the driver side window. With officer dude looking in on the both of them, strange expression on his face. It took the man uncomfortably long to say anything at all, as he kept staring back and forth between Lance and Lynn. Back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. Then, finally, he rattled down a halfhearted and muffled speech. Asking Lynn to step out of the vehicle, have license and ID ready, yada yada. Engaging her in a conversation that just felt weird as fuck.
Because there was just something about the dude. The way he acted. The way he talked. The way he now kept looking down the street before them. And Lance knew for a fact that something was wrong when just like that, the mood of that thing inside him vastly shifted too. From teasing and trolling and having fun right over to...alarm. Defense. Because then there it was again. Another car that had been following earlier. Coming down the opposite side of the road from up front. Starting to box Lynn’s car in. And though there hadn’t been any time for Lynn to explain it yet, Lance figured that maybe this was Murkoff. And that whatever it was, it was bad. Sure explained the fearful look on her face, the questions, her very own panic. Just....what the fuck had he gotten himself into here?
He barely managed to press the warning out. Saying “Drive. Now.” Visibly and audibly struggling, fighting, trying, but of course. Too late. All alarm bells had gone off to the absolute max, driving him, no it, right over the tipping point. And the fearful look on his face instantly made way for outright insanity and fury when it looked right past Lynn and at the man behind the window. A window that suddenly smashed right into the guy’s face when the driver’s door blasted open without having been touched by anyone, sending the man flying back in a spray of blood and knocked out teeth. So sudden and forceful a push that there were multiple wet cracking sounds as the man fell. Once when the door connected with his face, breaking his nose and cheek bones. And a second time when the back of his head hit the pavement, splitting his skull wide open.

poison & wine- part 6
Tumblr media
Author: hela-avenger
Word Count: 1138
Summary: Prince Loki of Asgard is in need of a date to take back home. That’s where you come in with a task of your own to make the whole trip with an insufferable prince worth it. Too bad that things don’t always go as planned and you end up giving more than you can take. Fake-Dating AU.
A/N: With all that’s going on with the world I had to take a small hiatus last week because I got kicked out of my school and had to move back home and figure out online schooling! So be safe out there! Wash them hands! And let me know if you’ll like to be tagged!
Hela-Avenger Masterlist
You were surprised at how long it took for you to look the way you did. Not that the time and effort were not worth it because they were. You had never looked this good in your life ever. Your skin was radiating somehow, glowing even, and you were half-tempted to ask what products they had used to make you look as you do now.
Iana was currently working on your hair while Lynn and Datya were trying to make sense of the array of makeup you had decided to bring along. You were having fun teaching them the use of foundation, brushes, and eyeshadow palette and you already set your mind in gifting them the items before you leave.
Amidst your explanations, Iana kept to her role as she explained to you the process of the feast and the etiquette you were to have when you met the Allfather and his wife. She explained the hierarchy of the seating arrangement and warned you of the attention you would receive at the dinner table.
You weren’t nervous until she explained that you would be seated by the dark prince and would most likely be interrogated by the King of his time spent in Midgard.
“You’ll be fine,” Iana assures you noticing the way you tensed up at the mention of Loki. “I’m sure the prince will come to your aid if needed.”
You restrain from snorting and simply hum in agreement.
“Speaking of the prince,” Lynn whispers as she finished up with your eyes. “Will he be escorting you or shall we take you?”
Knowing how you left things with him and how he abandoned you the moment you arrived, you believed he wouldn’t have the decency to be a proper gentleman.
Biting your tongue, you don’t relay this to the girls and simply shrug in response.
“I’m sure he’ll want to meet me there…”
A knock interrupts you and the girls share a concerned look before they start working in a flurry. Iana finishes the intricate braid in your hair that you wish your own hands could replicate and Datya motions for you to rise from your seat so that she may be able to slip you into the dress you all unanimously decided on.
“Wait a moment!” Iana calls out as another round of impatient knocking is heard through the door. She turns to look at you as she inspected her handiwork quickly. “Alright, you’re good to go, my lady.”
You were about to playfully reprimand her for using a title you didn’t deserve but there is no chance as your doors swing open with an angry prince to follow.
“By the Norns,” Loki mutters. “For a mortal whose time is already so precious, you do waste a lot of it…”
He stops his monologue once he catches sight of you. His mouth hanging open with lost and forgotten words.
You can’t help but grin and count that as a win.
“Am I pretty enough for you now, your majesty?”
Loki scowls at your question and your grin can only grow bigger at managing to beat him at his own game.
“You’re insufferable,” he mutters loud enough for you and the girls to hear and though he’s scowling, he offers you his arm to take. “We’ll be late if you don’t hurry.”
You nod but before taking his outheld arm, you look back at the girls.
“Thank you for all your help,” you tell them. “You’re dismissed for the night. I’m sure I can handle the rest of the night without your aid. Enjoy the feast, be merry.”
With that said, you take Loki’s arm and have him escort you out.
The moment you leave the bedroom a silence settles between the two of you. You kept replaying Iana’s advice in your mind knowing that this would be your saving grace. You knew better than to trust the man beside you to help if the need arises.
You turn around a corner and hear the sound of music and conversation echoing down the hall. You took a breath ready for what awaited beyond those doors but you never reach them. The prince stops before you’re able to arrive.
“Why are we stopping?” you ask. “Is something wrong?”
Loki looks down at you and you notice the apprehension he held.
“I must request something of you,” Loki states and you could see how much it was hurting him to say those words to you.
“Is this about how your father is going to interrogate me about your behavior?” you ask noticing how tense he became at your question. “Because I do have some choice words to say.”
“Y/N…”
“Oh, no, please do let me finish,” you interrupt him ignoring the way his jaw tightened at your interruption. “Prince Loki of Asgard, God of Mischief and Lies, this night can go two ways. I can speak words of praise on your behalf. Embellish the truth of what I know from your time spent in Midgard. How you worked alongside your once enemies, and how you saved many innocents with your skills, and how you are well on your way in redemption.”
Loki may be taller than you but at the moment you couldn’t help but feel as if you were looking down at him with the words you said next.
“Or… I could also speak a different truth altogether of how you hate us, mere mortals, and how your only redeeming trait comes from your brother.”
Loki swallows but continues to glare down at you.
“And how can I convince you to say the former?”
“It’s quite simple really,” you answer as you smooth down your dress. “I have some pending questions that I need answers to and I’m sure a prince of your standing can easily get that information.”
Loki opens his mouth to argue but you stop him before he’s able to.
“It’s nothing complicated and nothing that should get you in trouble,” you explain. “I just need information about a certain Asgardian and I will tell you who they are when the time arises.”
Loki mulls over your request and you could see he was still apprehensive about it.
“You’re wasting my so precious mortal time, your majesty,” you whisper. “So what will it be?”
“We have a deal,” he snaps as he starts moving you forward. “But let me do most of the talking.”
“Ok,” you agree as you try to match his long speeding strides. “I’m glad we can come to an agreement.”
Loki doesn’t respond as he motions for the guard to open the doors to the feast room. You had no time to prepare for what came as trumpets blared at your arrival and all eyes were on you.
“Prince Loki of Asgard accompanied by Lady Y/N of Midgard.”

@mslangermann sent : ‘ do you ever think we should stop meeting like this?’ ’ RANDOM DIALOGUE meme | Always Open!
"Look, I know that this is fucking ridiculous and just about the stupidest place to go to, but that's exactly why it works so well. So no, I don't think that we should stop meeting like this" Lance replies in a lowered voice as he keeps looking around the place in question and what, well this, is. A public pool. Broad daylight. Surrounded by a whole fuckton of people in swimwear. Having fun in the pools, splashing about, yelling, having fun, being families and couples and whatever else. It's pretty much everything he hates and judging by her question, it's something she probably hates just as much. But the point still stands.
Sighing in frustration all thanks to all that fucking noise and sunlight, Lance reaches for the cheap sunglasses and puts them on, very careful to keep the towel right where it is. Bunched up in his hand and covering his stomach, to hide how skinny and worn down he still looks, because sure enough, given the ridiculous location he's chosen for another meet up with her, he has to wear some fitting attire as well. Could only afford a cheap pair of swimming trunks, though he sure as fuck would love to go for a whole body wetsuit if he could. Fuck it. A fucking diving suit. One of those metal ones. From the 1800s or whatever. Anything better than what he's actually wearing. So sure enough. He gets the point. Meeting like this is the fucking worst. Sitting by a fucking pool in cheap plastic chairs, looking like tourists. But it is what it is. Inconspicuous in here. A lesser evil. A necessity.
Tumblr media
"Look at all those people" he mutters, voice softer as his eyes are transfixed on a young couple with their child by the kids pool. "They come here in pairs or groups. To sunbathe, to chat, to go for a swim together. Barely any loners or strangers who sit around and stare all creepily like the ones we're trying to avoid. And if there is one lonely figure, they're not going to be sitting out here in the boiling sun, they're the sporty types. In the pool. Counting their laps. Like this one over there" Lance goes on and points at a particularly busy guy in the swimmer's lane, whose head is stuck more underwater than above it most of the time, making it obvious that he's not spying on them.
"Plus, they're all in swimwear" Lance states the obvious next, but that's not the point. "Pretty fucking hard for some creepy corporation or cults...or any other fucking weirdos to hide what they've got in store for whoever they might be following." This time, Lance gives her a long, pointed look. "Guns...handcuffs...zipties...ropes...you name it. Wherever you'd be keeping that, not going to be easy to access on your half naked body. And all that splashing water and those screaming kids by the slide." He clicks his tongue and shakes his head. "That's gotta be tough to weed through on listening devices or whatever the fuck else." He gives her a tiny smile, confident enough for now to start talking a little more truthfully.
"All that said. Yes. I cannot wait to get the fuck outta here and stop meeting like this one day. That's exactly why I want to keep talking to you though. I have news. A guy contacted me the other day. He went through some shit and thinks it might be connected to the shit I...well, some other stuff that happened. And that got me thinking about you and that maybe his stuff and mine and yours might all be connected some way."

Duncan Info
Tumblr media
Full name: Duncan Marcus Evans
Species: Human
Age: 20
Sexuality: Bisexual
FC(s): Matthew Daddario || Kovu ( The Lion King 2 )
Bio: From a young age, Duncan has felt like the black sheep of his family. And who can blame him? Everyone else is a respected member of the law, all police officers... and he just happened to have a problem with rules. Rules are meant to be broken, and sometimes it was way more fun than to follow the law and be a member of society. That’s what he always thought.
Even then, Duncan never went that far with his criminal tendencies: vandalism, stealing stuff... sure, but he would never intentionally kill someone and don’t even dare to suggest he‘s one of those psychos who hurt animals for shits and giggles. He’s bad... but he’s not that bad. Deep inside, he has a hard of gold. It’s just way more fun to be chaotic, make fun of others and intimidate others, not to mention he HAD to act strong and tough while he spent most of his years in Juvy.
One day, however, he saw the add that would the beginning of big changes in his life. He saw Chris McClean, a popular TV show host, announcing his next project: a reality TV show where 22 teens would compete for 100.000 dollars. Duncan saw his chance to get out of Juvy ( even if it was only for the entire Summer ) and possibly return with money for his lawyer. And so, he made a “one of a kind” audition, which made him an official participant for Total Drama Island.
He didn’t do bad -- heck, he ended in fourth place from 22, that’s incredible! And, if he had to be honest, the experience wasn’t that bad. I mean, anything is better than being in Juvy, but he made some cool friends along the way like Geoff and DJ, as well as meeting a “one of a kind” type of girl in Courtney.
Due to circumstances too complicated to explain, he was one of the few to return for the second season, Total Drama Action, in which he became a finalist alongside Beth. A year later, he returned for Total Drama World Tour, only to immediately quit due to being constantly annoyed by non-stop bickering and the singing... oh, the singing. Unfortunately for him, he was eventually forced to return mid-season ( ergo, forced to sing ) and here is where his bad judgment got the better of him.
Looking back, he regrets the love triangle fiasco between him, Courtney and Gwen, but at the time he didn’t give a fuck what others would think. These reckless mistakes and acting too idiotic would continue in All-Stars, the fifth season of Total Drama and the last time he appeared in live TV. Fortunately, despite how stupid he was acting, Duncan was able to ponder over his own attitude recently... and how not worth it was.  Like, sure, he has always been sarcastic, a little shit and enjoys making fun of others to some extent... but that was when he didn’t give a crap about the world, about the future or the people around him.
The catalyst to his “change of heart” was remembering Mal, the top dog of Juvy -- not even he dared to cross paths with him and was fortunate enough to remain low-key while he was there. Knowing what the guy was capable of made him reconsider his actions, leaving aside his pride and “tough bad boy facade” to help others, especially Zoey. Despite his best efforts, however, Mal eventually learned about it made a plan to have him kicked out. Well, not only did he succeed, but he also made Duncan go back to jail... even if this time he managed to get out early due to good behaviour.
Now as a free man, while not changing one bit of his physical appearance ( Like, c’mon, the mohawk and the piercings are dope as hell ), he IS trying to move on and have a new life... a better life. He began to work at a tattoo and piercing shop as an apprentice, slowly getting to do his own work and having his own customers. The few people that don’t outright hate him from Total Drama still keep in contact with him, much to his luck. He’s still a jackass... but he’s a better jackass than when he was 16.
Note: Follows canon events up to a certain extent, diverges heavily in the events of All-Stars and the aftermath of that.
[ MAIN || INBOX || HEADCANONS || VISAGE || MUSINGS ]
                                 -----------------------------------------------
V001: Delinquent Without a Cause
Default main verse. Takes place after all the events of the Total Drama seasons he participated in ( for more information on my divergence in All-Stars, read the bio ). He’s currently living on his own in a small apartment, with a German Sheppard he adopted from a shelter while it was still a puppy, and working full time at a tattoo and piercing shop.
V002: I Wanna Be Famous
Mid-show verse. For anything or any interactions that happen within the context of Total Drama, in any of the seasons he participated in: TDI, TDA, TDWT or TDAS.
V003: Last Surprise
Persona 5 verse. His lawyer, when speaking to the judge who sentenced him to 2 more years in Juvy, said that travelling abroad would do good for him. Something about different environments and different routines, or something like that. Duncan didn’t ponder on it until he had arrived in Japan, and even then he only REALLY thought about what this was doing to him months later when his life changed in the most unexpected way.
It all started with Duncan doing something stupid. He was getting irritated by the idea of being a transfer student in a country he barely knows, to which he can barely follow a conversation with his basic Japanese... this led him to the shady deals of Junya Kaneshiro. However, what seemed like a good idea at first turned into a nightmare for him. If his lawyer learned about his, he would be brought back to Canada to complete his sentence behind bars... heck, they would probably make it longer!
But then... something unexpected happened. One of his classmates, a dyed blond punk questioned him about the blackmail ( first of all, how did he learn about it?? ) -- he only told him the truth in private, to warn him of the dangers and to make him stay away. He fucked himself over, he wouldn’t let others go through the same if he could avoid it. However, not only did he encounter that dude again, but discover a different reality from their own: the Metaverse.
That’s how he met the Phantom Thieves, how he learned about their identities and what they actually did to change people’s hearts. And the craziest bit? He, too, had the potential. Seems like his rebellious nature had awoken this “potential” years ago, however now it was actually manifesting due to being in the Metaverse. He was already a rebel, why not just continue being one? And like that, he ripped off the mask that formed on his face, his clothes chancing to something more leathery-like, and now having a large three-headed hellhound standing beside him: Cerberus. He was now known as “Demon”.
NOTE: He’s 16 in this verse and nothing from Total Drama happened in this verse. Not even TDI.

Trump rollbacks for fossil fuel industries carry steep cost
Tumblr media
Trump rollbacks for fossil fuel industries carry steep cost BILLINGS, Mont. — As the Trump administration rolls back environmental and safety rules for the energy sector, government projections show billions of dollars in savings reaped by companies will come at a steep cost: more premature deaths and illnesses from air pollution, a jump in climate-warming emissions and more severe derailments of trains carrying explosive fuels. The Associated Press analyzed 11 major rules targeted for repeal or relaxation under Trump, using the administration’s own estimates to tally how its actions would boost businesses and harm society. The AP identified up to $11.6 billion in potential future savings for companies that extract, burn and transport fossil fuels. Industry windfalls of billions of dollars more could come from a freeze in vehicle efficiency standards that will yield an estimated 79 billion-gallon (300 million-litre) increase in fuel consumption. On the opposite side of the government’s ledger, buried in thousands of pages of analyses, are the “social costs” of rolling back the regulations. Among them: — Up to 1,400 additional premature deaths annually due to the pending repeal of a rule to cut coal plant pollution. — An increase in greenhouse gas emissions by about 1 billion tons (907 million metric tons) from vehicles produced over the next decade — a figure equivalent to annual emissions of almost 200 million vehicles.
Tumblr media
— Increased risk of water contamination from a drilling technique known as “fracking.” — Fewer safety checks to prevent offshore oil spills. For the Trump administration and its supporters, the rule changes examined by AP mark a much-needed pivot away from heavy regulations that threatened to hold back the Republican president’s goal of increasing U.S. energy production. But the AP’s findings also underscore the administration’s willingness to put company profits ahead of safety considerations and pollution effects. SIDING WITH INDUSTRY The AP found the administration has sought to bolster the changes by emphasizing, and sometimes exaggerating, economic gains while minimizing negative impacts. For example, when calculating future damages from greenhouse gas emissions from coal plants, the Trump administration looked only at U.S. effects, instead of globally. That drastically reduced the benefits of emission restrictions and allowed the administration to conclude the Obama-era rule was no longer justified, given costs to the coal industry. In another instance, the Environmental Protection Agency wants to stop considering secondary benefits of controlling mercury emissions — namely reductions in other pollutants projected to prevent up to 11,000 premature deaths. Last month, the AP revealed that the administration understated the advantages of installing better brakes on trains carrying crude oil and ethanol. Transportation Department officials acknowledged they miscalculated potential benefits by up to $117 million because they failed to include some projected future derailments. In explaining its actions, the Trump administration said in some cases that the previous administration understated the price tag on new industry restrictions. In others, it said President Barack Obama’s administration had been overly expansive in how it defined benefits to society. Michael Greenstone, a University of Chicago professor who served as chief economist for Obama’s Council of Economic Advisers, said the Trump administration was downplaying the health and environmental impacts of its actions. “When you start fudging the numbers, it’s not that the costs just evaporate into thin air. We will pay,” Greenstone said. “They are reducing the costs for industries where pollution is a byproduct.” The rules being targeted were largely crafted under Obama in response to climate change, the disastrous 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill, massive releases from coal ash dumps and fuel train explosions. ADMNISTRATION: NEGLIGIBLE RISKS Trump’s administration has stressed that savings for companies were greater than any increased perils to safety or the environment. “We fully recognize every significant policy decision has a consequence and that those consequences can differ,” acting U.S. Interior Secretary David Bernhardt told the AP. “I think when you look at the track record, holistically, what you see is our deregulatory efforts are still pretty protective.” The AP’s tally of savings was derived from government projections required under a 1993 executive order. Five of the rule changes are still pending. On rules for toxic coal ash, offshore safety and refinery pollution, the administration said companies would save hundreds of millions of dollars with little or no added risk — an assertion former federal officials and environmental groups have disputed. The potential industry savings were projected largely over the next decade. Sectors of the coal industry see lifting costly rules as a matter of survival because demand has plummeted as utilities switch to cleaner-burning fuels. For the oil and gas industry, with hundreds of billions of dollars in annual revenue, the economic impact of the Obama-era rules was comparatively small. But they were vigorously opposed as restrictions on business. “We need to make sure we’re putting together rules that are flexible enough to apply the latest, greatest technologies,” said Erik Milito, vice-president for the American Petroleum institute. He said the group focused on whether rules make sense, rather than cost savings. Critics say the impact on public health and the environment will be even worse than projected. “I don’t think it’s well understood what the death toll of these policies will be for the American people,” said Paul Billings, of the American Lung Association. OBAMA CLIMATE AGENDA ASSAILED Two sweeping changes under Trump — the rollback of the Clean Power Plan that threatened to close many coal power plants and a reversal of plans to increase vehicle fuel efficiency standards — were centerpieces of Obama’s climate change actions. Killing the power plan would save companies up to $6.4 billion, the EPA concluded. The trade-off is almost 61 million tons (55 million metric tons) annually of additional carbon dioxide emissions by 2030. The administration calculated that those emissions carry a maximum of $3.2 billion in “social costs,” such as flood damage and higher air conditioning costs. Since company savings outweighed pollution costs, the administration said scrapping the power plan was justified. That conclusion was possible largely because the EPA limited social costs to effects in the U.S., instead of globally as under Obama. EPA spokeswoman Enesta Jones said the analysis complied with a 2003 directive under President George W. Bush that said such reviews should focus on costs and benefits to people in the U.S. Joe Goffman, a former EPA official who helped create the clean power plan and now at Harvard Law School, said the omission of international impacts “doesn’t track with reality” given that climate change is a worldwide problem. The Trump administration also limited pollution cost considerations in its proposal last month on mercury emitted by coal plants. When the mercury rule was finalized in 2012, the EPA projected up to $90 billion in benefits, including avoidance of up to 11,000 premature deaths from other power plant pollutants. Now, the EPA says those benefits could not be considered because they are not directly tied to mercury reductions. The only benefits that should be counted, the agency said, were improvements to IQ scores as a result of less mercury exposure, valued at up to $6 million annually. The National Mining Association had urged the change. Spokesman Conor Bernstein said Obama’s EPA misused the concept of secondary pollution benefits to justify its actions. The rollback’s impact is unclear since utilities already have spent an estimated $18 billion on new pollution controls. FUEL STANDARDS AND DRILLING SAFETY Some experts outside government take issue with the rationale for relaxing the fuel economy rule. The Trump administration says reducing standards would save as many as 1,000 lives annually and spare consumers and car companies hundreds of billions of dollars on vehicles with higher gas mileage. To reach that conclusion, officials lowered estimates of how many vehicles people would buy. But economists including from the nonpartisan National Bureau of Economic Research say that assumption was fundamentally flawed, since looser standards would make cars cheaper and therefore increase demand. The economists said the government used misleading findings to wipe out at least $112 billion in potential societal benefits while falsely claiming its change would save numerous lives. “Every change they made was made in the direction to make the standards look more expensive and the rollback to look cheaper and better,” said Jeff Alson, who worked 40 years at an EPA lab in Michigan. Several rules reworked under Trump tie directly to worker and public safety. The administration rescinded requirements for improved fuel train brakes after determining the costs to industry would be higher than previously calculated. It acknowledged more spills from derailments would likely occur. After AP’s story about the agency’s $117 million benefits understatement, spokesman Bobby Fraser said the decision to rescind the Obama rule would stand because the costs were still greater. Two safety rules for offshore oil and gas drilling were adopted following the Deepwater Horizon accident, which killed 11 people and spilled 134 million gallons (507 million litres) of oil. The Interior Department now says less rigid inspection and equipment requirements would save drilling companies hundreds of millions of dollars with “negligible” safety and environmental risks. Lynn Scarlett, acting Interior Secretary under George W. Bush, said the changes ignore a government commission’s findings on the Gulf spill. “You’re removing a tool that was developed intentionally to help reduce the risks,” Scarlett said. “The failure to have those protections raises the risk, such that actions can result in accidents like Deepwater Horizon.” —— Follow Matthew Brown at https://twitter.com/matthewbrownap Published at Sun, 27 Jan 2019 16:56:34 +0000 Read the full article

That Did Not Just Happen
Tumblr media
This is a little drabble I came up with while sitting on a flight myself.
That Did not Just Happen
*italics are her inner monologue
“Thanks Asshole”
Your seat mate turns to you “Pardon?”
“Oh, sorry!! Not you”
The guy in front reclined his seat all the way back, giving you no room in the already cramped airplane seat. You shift trying to fit your legs comfortably without bumping his seat
“Normally I love being tall but not today” You joke
Your neighbor huffs out a small chuckle “I get it”
A few more shifts and you finally get comfy, however your neighbor is not. He shifts around bumping you a few times
“Sorry” He apologizes only to bump you again
“Two tall people in one small airplane seat.” You say, as you really are not sure what to say
He answers with another chuckle
You look over at him
At least he’s cute you think to yourself. You could have been stuck next to some stuffy businessmen or a mom with a crying baby
“What takes you to LA?”
“Hmmm?”
“LA? Going for a holiday?”
“Oh! Um, no. I’m actually going for a job interview”
“Oh yeah? Wow. That’s cool. For what?”
You weren’t sure why he wanted to have small talk. You look over at him, watching him pull on the fabric of his jeans. His knees jiggling a little
He’s nervous
“Well, I do Press for Gillette Stadium but got offered a job with..”
“Whoa! Wait! Gillette stadium, as in where the Pats play? Like THAT Gillette stadium?”
You laugh “Yup! That’s the one”
“You work for the Pats and you’re entertaining moving. Are you crazy?” Genuine shock in his voice
Unable to hold back laughter “I’m told I’m crazy all the time. But I actually work for the Stadium. Not the team. I work in the PR department.”
“But still!”
“But still” You parrot
“Have you meet the team?” He asks, slightly awed
Awww! He’s adorable
“I’ve meet a few of the more public players. We work with them on events” you explain
“I take it you’re a pats fan?”
He shrugs “Is it obvious?”
“Just a little” You hold your finger and thumb apart
He laughs, turning more in his seat towards you
“Yeah, I’m from Boston so you know….kinda my team”
“Boston you say. Then what takes you to LA?”
You watch him blush slightly and fiddle with his jeans again
“Work”
“How generic and vague. Are you like FBI or something that you can’t say?” You tease
He answers with a puff of laughter “No, not FBI”
“Auditioning for a boy band? Male stripper? Celebrity impersonator?”
You had him laughing. You watched as he stopped playing with his seam and clap his hand on his chest
“Yup! You got me!”
“Let me guess…” You make a show of thinking, tapping your chin with your finger
“You do drag down on sunset.”
“What?” He looks at you shocked “Really? Drag with this beard?”
“Good point. Ok not a queen. So that leaves lumberjack or Just For Men model” You say
You are rewarded with a huge laugh almost a cackle. His hand hitting his chest again
You start laughing just watching him laugh
“You are crazy”
“Thank you” You say with pride in your voice
His laughter dies and he goes back to fiddling with his jeans, looking down the small aisle. Twisting and bumping your knees again
“Looking for someone? Secret rendezvous? YOU ARE FBI!” You point a finger at him
“No no! I just don’t like flying. I fly all the time so you think I would be used to it but I not.” He answers
“Ahhh! Frequent flyer, works in LA…you must be important”
You watch him blush again as he shakes his head “Nope, not important”
“Well then you have me stumped mister 15A”
“Well Miss 15B, if you must know I am an actor”
You narrow your eyes at him “Porn?”
You watch his eyes widen before he barks out a laugh again, causing the people across the aisle turn and look at you both
“Anything I’ve seen? Um…like Saving Ryan’s Privates or Teachers Pet 2 - The substitute?”
“Oh my god! What? Are those real?” His can hardly make the words out as he laughs
“Well teachers Pet wasn’t all that good” You fight back your own laugh
“Did you…Oh my God. I can't…” he wheezes out between laughing and almost crying
The flight attendant comes over to your seats
“While I am glad you both are having fun the rows behind you are not, would you mind keeping it down” she smiles sweetly before walking away
You cover your mouth with your hand, stifling your giggles
“You got us in trouble”
“Well, technically it’s your big man laugh that did it”
You are rewarded with a huge smile and another cackle. You duck your head as the attendant turns back towards you
“Sorry” He offers as a weak apology to the attendant
Turning back towards you
“You are trouble and crazy”
It’s your turn to blush
“And I don’t do porn” He scoffs
“It’s a shame! Girls love a good beard” You shrug
His mouth opens and closes as he can’t figure out how to answer
He really is cute
You sit in comfortable silence for a few minutes
“Do you not know who I am or are you playing me?” He asks
“Should I know you?” You question back
“I guess not. It’s just nice to be able to do this”
“Do what?” You wrinkle your brow not following along with his train of thought
“Be a regular guy” he answers
“Unless you are a wizard, you seem like a regular guy to me”
He gives a sad laugh “Yeah”
This is weird
“Like if you’re famous and I don’t know you, I’m the idiot here” You try to reassure him
What the hell. Is this guy famous?
You turn you head and look fully at him. He turns and looks you square in the face
He can see you studying his face
“On your left”
Realization washes over you, you feel your eyebrows raise and your mouth falls open
Oh my god you idiot! Stupid stupid stupid
“I….you….no….you” You stutter
You can see him tense
Don’t be weird
You force your mouth to shut
You’re making him uncomfortable. Do something
“Well technically you’re on my right”
You see him smile and his shoulder relax
Be cool idiot
“So you know my name, do I get to know yours?”
He wants to know my name
“Y/N” You squeak out
“Nice to meet you Y/N”
You sit a little stiff in your chair
“I made it weird, didn’t it?”
“What? No! I’m weird” You rush out. Closing your eyes and hanging your head
You are an idiot
He laughs “I like weird”
“Well I’m your girl then”
“How long are in you in LA for?”
“Uhhhh….3 days I think”
“You busy on all the days?” He questions
“Nooooooooo” You draw out the word
“Well, you’re weird and I like weird so I was wondering if you maybe wanted to hang out, go for coffee or something?”
He just called you weird
“Um. I don’t..really?” You stuttered not sure if you hearing this right
“It’s been nice to be able to talk to someone like this, and I want to do it again. If you want?”
Kill me now
“Sure” You answer very unconvincingly
He chuckles “Well don’t sound so excited about it”
“Well you know, I can’t be seen with just anybody you know” You smile at him
“I hope I’m up to your standards”
You shrug “You’ll do, I suppose”
“Gee thanks” He says with an eye roll
The announcement of your pending arrival sounds over the PA system
You are not sure what to do now, do you give him your number? Does he give you his?
He wouldn’t give you his. Moron
You dig around in your purse and find a card
“Here’s my card with my number and email”
He takes it and looks at you
Oh God he didn’t want it.
“I was thinking my driver can take you to your hotel so I know where to pick you up for when we hang out”
“If that’s ok?” He adds, looking a little nervous
Are you fucking serious?
“Yeah, for sure! Save me fifty bucks on a cab”
He shakes his head as he laughs again at you
The remainder of the flight is spend making a plan for later that night. After a bumping landing, he says a quick good bye and I’ll text you later before jumping up and making his way to the front of the plane
You sit stunned in your seat for a few minutes
THAT DID NOT JUST HAPPEN

Every major NFL free agent rumor heading into the new league year
Tumblr media
Some of the biggest names in the NFL will be free to sign with new teams on March 18.
This year’s NFL free agency is different than most years. Not only is the collective bargaining agreement proposal holding up contract negotiations, but we also have an excellent group of players hitting the open market. That includes some of the biggest names in the NFL, like Dak Prescott, Chris Jones, and even Tom Brady.
With such a strong class, there are plenty of rumors to keep track of — even if pending free agents can’t sign with teams until the new league year begins on March 18. While a number of these players will ultimately re-sign with their current teams or draw the franchise tag, others will land with new teams.
These are the free agents need to know about and the latest rumors surrounding their 2020 destinations.
The biggest names
Tom Brady, QB
Rumored landing spots: Patriots, Raiders, Buccaneers, Chargers, Colts
Feb. 27: Tampering rules don’t matter when you’re Brady. His agent reportedly talked to a number of teams at the combine, though don’t count the Patriots out yet: They’re waiting to see what happens with the new CBA to begin discussions with their longtime quarterback.
Jadeveon Clowney, Edge
Rumored landing spots: Seahawks, Giants, Colts
Feb. 27: General manager John Schneider confirmed the Seahawks want to bring Clowney back if they can, and Clowney also said he’d like to be back but is open to playing elsewhere. The Giants and Colts are among teams that could be interested in Clowney.
Amari Cooper, WR
Rumored landing spots: Cowboys, Eagles
Feb. 29: Talks between Cooper and the Cowboys are supposed to heat up “very soon” after the team met with Cooper’s representatives at the combine. One team floated as potentially being interested in Cooper are the rival Eagles, who desperately need help at receiver.
Chris Jones, DL
Rumored landing spots: Chiefs
Feb. 27: Chiefs general manager Brett Veach called re-signing Jones a priority, though recent reports said they have decided to use the tag on him if necessary.
Dak Prescott, QB
Rumored landing spots: Cowboys
Feb. 26: Few believe the Cowboys will let Prescott actually hit free agency, whether they have to use the exclusive franchise tag or not. Dallas is confident that Prescott will be back next season, and the two sides finally met to talk at the NFL Combine.
Philip Rivers, QB
Rumored landing spots: Colts; Raiders
March 1: NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport called Indianapolis “the most likely option” for Rivers, who plans to play at least two more seasons in the NFL. Rapoport also listed the Raiders as “a possibility,” though there’s mutual interest between Rivers and the Colts.
The high-level starters.
Shaq Barrett, Edge
Rumored landing spots: Bucs
Feb. 28: Bucs coach Bruce Arians has made it clear he wants to retain Barrett, who broke through with 19.5 sacks last year in Tampa. That might involve using the franchise tag, though.
Anthony Castonzo, OT
Rumored landing spots: Colts
Feb. 25: Colts general manager Chris Ballard said Castonzo, who was mulling retirement, plans to play in 2020 and that the Colts are working on doing a new contract for him.
Kenyan Drake, RB
Rumored landing spots: Cardinals
Feb. 25: The Cardinals want to bring Drake back, though there’s no word on whether or not this is likely.
Melvin Gordon, RB
Rumored landing spots: Chargers
Feb. 25: Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn said the team would like to have him back.
A.J. Green, WR
Rumored landing spots: Bengals
March 1: Bengals coach Zac Taylor says he’s confident Green will be on the team come September. They will reportedly use the franchise tag on him.
Everson Griffen, DE
Rumored landing spots: Vikings
Feb. 26: Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer told reporters at the NFL Combine that the team has met with Griffen’s agent and “expect him to be back.”
Austin Hooper, TE
Rumored landing spots: Bears, Packers, Washington
Feb. 29: The Falcons are going to let Hooper test the open market, and the Bears are ready to pounce. Washington and the Packers are also eyeing the tight end.
Byron Jones, CB
Rumored landing spots: Cowboys, Eagles, Giants
Feb. 28: The Cowboys met with Jones’ reps, though they are not expected to be able to keep Jones in Dallas. NFC East rivals Eagles and Giants are among the teams interested in him.
Yannick Ngakoue, Edge
Rumored landing spots: Jaguars
Feb. 25: The Jaguars want to find a way to keep Ngakoue in Jacksonville, while other reports suggest that Ngakoue is seeking $22 million per year.
Brandon Scherff, OG
Rumored landing spots: Washington
Feb. 27: Don’t count on Scherff hitting the market. Washington head coach Ron Rivera says the team is part of the plan in 2020 and long-term contract negotiations are underway. J.P. Finlay of NBC Sports says a tag appears likely if no deal is reached before the league year begins.
Justin Simmons, S
Rumored landing spots: Broncos
Feb. 25: Broncos general manager John Elway says the team isn’t going to let Simmons go anywhere. If a long-term deal can’t be reached soon, Denver plans to use the franchise tag to retain him.
Ryan Tannehill, QB
Rumored landing spots: Titans
Feb. 26: At the NFL Combine, the Titans did not commit to Tannehill as their quarterback of the future, but other reports say the team will try and extend him before the franchise tag window closes.
Jameis Winston, QB
Rumored landing spots: Buccaneers
Feb. 27: “Jameis sounds like a fallback plan” for the Buccaneers, according to Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com. With a non-zero chance that Tampa Bay pursues Brady, Winston could return as the team’s starter if a swing for the fences turns into a whiff.
The backups and aging veterans
Eric Berry, CB
Rumored landing spots: Colts
Feb. 28: NFL Network’s Jim Trotter reported the most likely landing spot for Berry is with the Colts. Berry sat out the entire 2019 season after suffering an Achilles tear in 2017 and complications in the season that followed.
Chase Daniel, QB
Rumored landing spots: Browns
Feb. 26: The Browns are expected to pursue Daniel, among other quarterbacks, as a backup to Baker Mayfield.
Case Keenum, QB
Rumored landing spots: Browns,
Feb. 26: Keenum is on the radar of the Browns to be a backup for Baker Mayfield.
Josh Norman, CB
Rumored landing spots: Bills
Feb. 25: The Bills confirmed at the NFL Combine that they have had “initial conversations” with Norman.

Trump rollbacks for fossil fuel industries carry steep cost
As the Trump administration rolls back environmental and safety rules for the energy sector, government projections show billions of dollars in savings reaped by companies will come at a steep cost: more premature deaths and illnesses from air pollution, a jump in climate-warming emissions and more severe derailments of trains carrying explosive fuels.
Industry windfalls of billions of dollars more could come from a freeze in vehicle efficiency standards that will yield an estimated 79 billion-gallon (300 million-liter) increase in fuel consumption.
On the opposite side of the government’s ledger, buried in thousands of pages of analyses, are the “social costs” of rolling back the regulations. Among them:
— Up to 1,400 additional premature deaths annually due to the pending repeal of a rule to cut coal plant pollution.
— An increase in greenhouse gas emissions by about 1 billion tons (907 million metric tons) from vehicles produced over the next decade — a figure equivalent to annual emissions of almost 200 million vehicles.
— Increased risk of water contamination from a drilling technique known as “fracking.”
— Fewer safety checks to prevent offshore oil spills.
SIDING WITH INDUSTRY
The AP found the administration has sought to bolster the changes by emphasizing, and sometimes exaggerating, economic gains while minimizing negative impacts.
“They are reducing the costs for industries where pollution is a byproduct.”
The rules being targeted were largely crafted under Obama in response to climate change, the disastrous 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill, massive releases from coal ash dumps and fuel train explosions.
ADMNISTRATION: NEGLIGIBLE RISKS
Trump’s administration has stressed that savings for companies were greater than any increased perils to safety or the environment.
“We fully recognize every significant policy decision has a consequence and that those consequences can differ,” acting U.S. Interior Secretary David Bernhardt told the AP. “I think when you look at the track record, holistically, what you see is our deregulatory efforts are still pretty protective.”
The AP’s tally of savings was derived from government projections required under a 1993 executive order.
“We need to make sure we’re putting together rules that are flexible enough to apply the latest, greatest technologies,” said Erik Milito, vice president for the American Petroleum institute. He said the group focused on whether rules make sense, rather than cost savings.
Critics say the impact on public health and the environment will be even worse than projected.
“I don’t think it’s well understood what the death toll of these policies will be for the American people,” said Paul Billings, of the American Lung Association.
OBAMA CLIMATE AGENDA ASSAILED
Two sweeping changes under Trump — the rollback of the Clean Power Plan that threatened to close many coal power plants and a reversal of plans to increase vehicle fuel efficiency standards — were centerpieces of Obama’s climate change actions.
FUEL STANDARDS AND DRILLING SAFETY
Some experts outside government take issue with the rationale for relaxing the fuel economy rule.
Two safety rules for offshore oil and gas drilling were adopted following the Deepwater Horizon accident, which killed 11 people and spilled 134 million gallons (507 million liters) of oil.
“The failure to have those protections raises the risk, such that actions can result in accidents like Deepwater Horizon.”
